!!General
* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation:
** Scoop-A-Rooney brings to question why Joey tries to even befriend Diggie in the first place: Given Joey's current treatment, is Joey desperately seeking a friend, or is he that superficial that he's looking for coattails to ride on so that he can get hallway cred for himself? There happens to be a recurring theme with Liv and Maddie's boyfriends that would point to the latter; Diggie is a Jock, Holden is dating a well-known actress (his sister Liv), and Josh is an actor in Liv's new show.
** It's possible that Joey is [[CampGay gay]], given his flamboyant behaviour.
* {{Anvilicious}}: The episodes "Rate-A-Rooney" and "Ask Her More-A-Rooney" are not at all subtle in their reinforcement of the message that girls are more than just their appearance, as Liv and several other characters [[CharacterFilibuster constantly spell out that very same point to the audience]].
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: Dove Cameron's synth-pop take on "On Top Of The World" by Music/ImagineDragons
* BaseBreakingCharacter: Diggie. People liked him in the first few seasons, but starting from season 3, most fans have started to dislike him due to him breaking up with Maddie just to be an exchange student again and coming back because he felt jealous of her and Josh's relationship. The fact that he got back together with Maddie in favor of Josh made the hate grow.
* BrokenBase: Joey's new relationship with Willow at the end of Season 3. The idea of them dating grew on more than a few fans, but there are fans who think Willow shouldn't have deserved Joey because of her aggressive stalking tendencies. Come beginning of Season 4, it's revealed they broke up, and that broke the base ''even further'', because even those who weren't fans of the pairing felt the whole ordeal was a pointless development if there was no intention to keep them together.
* EnsembleDarkHorse:
** [[CloudCuckoolander Stains]].
** A lot of one-episode wonder guest characters, especially if they're played by actors who have a lot of pull or name recognition with the Disney Channel fanbase like Creator/LauraMarano and Creator/PiperCurda, or are big-name stars period like Creator/KevinJames.
** [[TheComicallySerious Dump Truck]] could count.
** People also like Artie for bringing good comedy and funny moments into the show.
** Liv's friends Andi and Holden, too - at least until Holden humiliated Andi and himself on live TV.
** [[LovableJock Diggie]] might count relative to his actual featured episodes.
** South Salamanca- [[CatchPhrase you don't even]] ''[[CatchPhrase know!!]]'' [[Series/{{Empire}} Sadly she only appeared in two episodes]] - girl deserves better than [[spoiler: Todd Stenson]]. She's also one of few characters who didn't get a confessional.
** Gemma (Liv's director on ''Voltage'').
** Josh, Liv's costar on ''Voltage'', especially because he's an AudienceSurrogate in Season 3 for the periphery demographic, before ascending to being one of Maddie's love interests. The fans even supported him over Diggie when deciding who Maddie will choose, and were sad that he lost despite the fact that he got the most votes.
* FandomRivalry: To an extent with ''WesternAnimation/WanderOverYonder ''. The two shows premiered two days within each other, and ''Wander'', a cleverly animated show, was shafted to Creator/DisneyXD and was [[ScrewedByTheNetwork unceremoniously cancelled after its second season]] while ''Liv and Maddie'', yet another KidCom about being famous, got two or more seasons and a proper finale (think the kind of ire ''WesternAnimation/TeenTitansGo'' gets).
* HoYay: Joey seems to have a crush on Diggie any time the two are on screen together. At times he seems to enjoy his company, even more than Maddie does (Diggie's girlfriend).
* HarsherInHindsight: The ''entire'' Maddie/Diggie relationship, especially during their breakup now that Dove Cameron and Ryan [=McCartan=] have broken up in real life. Most notably, how Diggie treated Maddie in "Flugelball-a-Rooney" becomes a ''lot'' harder to watch when after her breakup, Dove claimed Ryan was terrible to her.
* HilariousInHindsight: Season 2 had Liv star in a TV show based on a superhero comic series. Now, Dove Cameron is very much a ConvertedFangirl to Marvel, especially since her role in ''WesternAnimation/UltimateSpiderMan2012''. She would also have a role in ''Series/AgentsOfSHIELD''
* SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome: Liv's online RousingSpeech to every girl in the episode ''Rate-A-Rooney'', followed by her song.
* MorePopularReplacement: While Evan hasn't gone away, Reggie is considered to be more popular than him. Reggie was introduced in Season 2, and fans consider him to be Parker's better friend because of his funny lines.
* NeverLiveItDown: Some people hated how Holden broke up with Andie on live TV. Why did he even date Andie, if he had feelings for Liv the whole time?
* RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap:
** Willow initially rubbed people the wrong way, with her relentless pursuit of Joey driving people insane. Fortunately, this has improved quite a bit, especially in giving Willow things to do other than to chase Joey like being in Liv's band or a greater focus on her part on the basketball team.
** Nimbus likewise was initially disliked for his over the top personality, and the fact that he can sometimes be conceited. Though again, this has been improving especially since the show has taken these same traits and spun them into personality flaws such as in "Band-a-Rooney".
* RetroactiveRecognition: Dove Cameron previously had some prominent guest roles on ''{{Series/Shameless|US}}''.
** A rather weird example you'd probably never expect: the weird puppet... blob ''thing'' with the teeth from the Froyo Yolo music video in "Song-a-Rooney." Yes, for real. It got its own Website/YouTube show and Twitter account now.
** Miranda May, who played one of Maddie's basketball teammates, later joined ''Series/{{Bunkd}}''.
** "Joy To-A-Rooney" introduces Ariana Greenblatt, who later joined ''Series/StuckInTheMiddle''.
** Ocean is portrayed by Cozi Zuehlsdorff, who later had a major recurring role in ''Series/MightyMed''.
** Jessica Marie Garcia, who played Willow, would later play Jasmine in Netflix series ''Series/OnMyBlock''.
* {{Squick}}: Joey unintentionally hits on [[spoiler: Liv ("Kang-A-Rooney") in season 1 and Karen ("Pottery-A-Rooney" and "Kathy Kan-A-Rooney" - yes, ''twice'') in season 2.]] The guy has the ''worst'' luck.
* TestosteroneBrigade: Dove Cameron. It helps that she is probably the best actress on the show, including the adults, as evidenced by the emotional scene between [[ActingForTwo the two sisters]] and Diggie.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: Joey and Willow's relationship has been a case of this. After two seasons of fans giving flak to this pairing, they eventually warmed up to it when it culminated near the end of Season 3. Come beginning of season 4, Joey's and Willow's relationship was thrown away without attempting to give any further development to them. It's almost as if the writers can't make up their minds about them.

* AnchoredShip: Liv/Holden. They [[LoveAtFirstSight have feelings for each other from the first day Holden moved to the neighborhood]] but Andie, being as smitten to him as Liv, asked Holden out first. Now Liv, [[HairOfGoldHeartOfGold being a caring friend of Andie]], have to suppress her feelings, first due to Andie and Holden dating, then due to Andie was hurt when the pair is forced to break up on live TV.
