* AdaptationDisplacement: Even the 1943 film ''Lassie Come Home'' is overshadowed by the TV series, let alone Eric Knight's original novel. The popular image of Lassie is a HeroicDog saving people in trouble, though the novel was not about that at all. This concept of heroic collies named Lassie predates the novel by about 50 years.
* CommonKnowledge: For all of the other trouble he got into, [[TimmyInAWell Timmy never did fall down a well]]. That was actually Jeff in the first 3 seasons of the show.
* HarsherInHindsight: In the finale to the "Timmy and Lassie" portion of the series, it's bad enough that the Martins went to Australia and had to leave Lassie because of quarantine regulations. The SequelSeries, ''Series/TheNewLassie'', makes things even worse: [[spoiler:Ruth and Paul had to leave Timmy behind too, because the adoption had been screwed up.]]
* HilariousInHindsight: In the 2005 film, Rowlie, who's played by Creator/PeterDinklage, would remark a couple times how "winter is coming." Those would be the ArcWords for a [[Series/GameOfThrones show]] he would begin starring in six years later.
* MemeticMutation: Timmy in the Well.
* ViewerSpeciesConfusion: Lassie is ''not'' a Shetland Sheepdog as many believe, but a Rough Collie. While the breeds do look superficially similar to confuse people, [[https://www.akc.org/expert-advice/dog-breeds/collie-versus-shetland-sheepdog-tell-difference/ there are differences]].
