* BrokenBase: As mentioned on ''WebVideo/ToBoldlyFlee''[='s=] YMMV page, Jacob's portrayal of Edward from ''Anime/CowboyBebop'' has earned mixed reviews. Shortly after the episode where he became Edward, Jacob Tweeted that the ratio was around 70% in favor of it, with 30% disliking it. Funnily enough, this was long after he himself had noted in his review of ''Bebop'' that the character is extremely tricky to play without veering into being annoying.
* CrossesTheLineTwice: The Penguin Lottery [[spoiler:wherein he broadcasted his game of Zoo Tycoon, creating an exhibit with 150 penguins and 5 polar bears, and had the people watching his stream bet on which penguin would survive the longest. Accompanied by Yakkity Sax.]]
* HePannedItNowHeSucks: Like any internet critic, he's had his share of this.
** His review of ''Anime/RevolutionaryGirlUtena'' proved to be very controversial in the show's fandom, and led to his old homophobic comments that [[CreatorBacklash he'd disowned entirely by that point]] [[NeverLiveItDown being brought up]] and causing no end of problems for the TGWTG producers.
** In one week, he upset [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic Bronies]], [[Franchise/StarTrek Trekkies]], and [[Series/DoctorWho Whovians]] by slamming ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyEquestriaGirls'' (before it was released), ''Film/StarTrekIntoDarkness'' and "[[Recap/DoctorWhoS33E13TheNameOfTheDoctor The Name of the Doctor]]". Best summed up by [[https://twitter.com/eddievercetti/status/335849781849124865 this response]].
** He also has done several twitter tirades about ''WebAnimation/{{RWBY}}'' and its fanbase. When people responded, he tweeted a sarcastic comment of [[StrawFan "WHY CAN'T YOU JUST HAVE LITERALLY ZERO STANDARDS OR TASTE"]].
** ''WesternAnimation/TheLegendOfKorra'' fans got quite upset with him when he compared Korra to Anakin Skywalker to the ''Franchise/StarWars'' prequels and acted like you were just kidding yourself if you thought she was a heroic person. And then he called her a "cunt" the next week, which got even worse backlash.
* SugarWiki/HeReallyCanAct:
** His cameo in the ''WebVideo/BrowsHeldHigh'' review for ''Film/{{Melancholia}}'' had him switch on a dime from his familiar cheery self to heartbreakingly solemn and disappointed when Kyle lashes out at him in his depression.
** His ''Katawa Seiyu'' auditions continue the trend of showing off Hope's acting skills, particularly his audition for Rin, which can be seen [[https://soundcloud.com/jesuotaku/sets/katawa-seiyu-demos here.]]
** The amount of characters' voice he can display during any of his Let's Plays, cornerstones of his Saturday stream session, is astounding.
* HarsherInHindsight:
** The RealWomenDontWearDresses gag in his ''Manga/{{Mahoromatic}}'' review is rather painful considering he'd later confess to experiencing gender dysphoria at times before he came out as transgender.
** Also a gag where the female presenting at the time JO stuffed his bra so he could balance a plate there, and then Vixen did the same with her actual boobs in a later video.
** His comment in his ''Digimon'' retrospectives that [[TricksterMentor "Gennai's a douche"]] becomes slightly less funny now that [[spoiler:Gennai underwent a FaceHeelTurn in ''Anime/DigimonAdventureTri'']].
** Jacob's original "[[KeepCirculatingTheTapes Upload my old videos wherever, I don't really care]]" attitude after he called it quits, considering that in 2017 someone started a video series coming after the former Channel Awesome members, and most of them including JO had to start requesting that any reuploads be taken down so they wouldn't be used to mock them.
* HilariousInHindsight:
** In his ''Eiken'' review, Sage points out that JO would probably not have that much of a problem with it if the show were about a [[CastFullOfPrettyBoys a cast full of muscular pretty boys]] in revealing outfits and with big...endowments, to which JO awkwardly tries to change the subject. Skip ahead a couple of years, and JO sees ''Anime/{{Free}}''...which is pretty much ''exactly what Sage described''. And JO ''really did'' like it![[note]]Although that's more to do with the fact that the show's writers are at least ''trying'' to give it a plot and three-dimensional characters along with the manservice than the manservice itself[[/note]]
** At the end of the review of ''Anime/MasterOfMartialHearts'', to explain the severity of the show's SuddenDownerEnding while avoiding actually spoiling it, he compares it to the ending of ''VisualNovel/SchoolDays'', feeling that there's next to zero chance of that ever getting officially released in America so it's okay to compromise and spoil that series' end instead. Nearly three years after the review was posted, [[http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2014-02-26/discotek-licenses-school-days-magical-heart-kokoro-chan Discotek revealed that they had acquired the rights to the School Days anime and would be giving it an American release the following summer]].
** Speaking of the ''[=MoMH=]'' review, WebVideo/BennettTheSage, as the review was back before Bennett retconned his then-current persona to be a demon impersonating Sage, was the one who tormented JO into doing the review. Years and the retirement of the Devil Sage persona later, Bennett himself would review it for ''Anime Abandon''.
** In JO's ''Anime/DigimonAdventure02'' retrospective, he claims that 02's ending permanently closed off the ''Adventure'' continuity to any future sequels, and repeatedly affirms this viewpoint in ways such as calling it an "extremely conclusive conclusion" in the ''Tamers'' retrospective. He would be proven wrong in 2015, when ''Anime/DigimonAdventureTri'' was released. And later in 2020, the film ''Anime/DigimonAdventureLastEvolutionKizuna'' would be released as the GrandFinale for the Adventure cast, and in 2021, a new film focused on the 02 cast would be announced.
* NightmareFuel: The intro to his ''Higurashi'' review. He says hello, brings out a cleaver and laughs like a demon.
* OpinionMyopia: He doesn't tend to treat fans of series he dislikes well. Such as when fans of RWBY responded to his tirades on the series, he replied basically stating they have no taste or standards.
* TearJerker: He keeps a running tally of these moments in his ''Digimon Tamers'' retrospective, which gets the work-out of its life in the WhamEpisode that is Leomon's fight with Beelzemon. He ultimately declares the infamous "You're not Leomon" moment to be the biggest one in the entire franchise.
