----
* AssPull:
** The shark exploding for no explicable reason after being impaled by the boat.
** Jake surviving being chomped on by the shark and being dragged underwater. He shows up all fine and floating in the water after the shark blows up.
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: Michael Small's score, which is a highpoint of the movie even without taking into account his excellent arrangement of the Music/JohnWilliams' main theme.
* EnsembleDarkHorse:
** Jake, who has most of the film's (intentionally) memorable dialogue and is much more likeable and charismatic than the nominal leads. He was so popular with test audiences that the ending was reshot to let him survive the film.
** Hoagie is also well liked for his funny lines, especially his rather nonchalant "Oh shit!" even though he's being attacked by a great white. Being played by Creator/MichaelCaine definitely helps.
* FanonDiscontinuity: As bad as the third film was, many fans still prefer to acknowledge it as the true sequel to the first two films, if only because ''3-D'' doesn't cause Martin to suffer a BusCrash, and Sean a gratuitous death.
* FightSceneFailure: Sean's death, and, later, Ellen's NightmareSequence both depict the shark attack with a really fast montage of close ups of shark teeth, blood in the water, and glimpses of other shark parts, with a bunch of clothes tearing sounds and screaming dubbed in. You also have to wonder how the shark can bite Sean when he's not still leaning over the edge of the boat, unless we're meant to assume it chewed a hole through the bottom of the boat.
* FranchiseOriginalSin: As [[http://jabootu.net/?p=589 this review]] points out, the main things this movie is mocked for (the shark roaring and the shark seeking revenge) were actually present to some degree in the previous films (E.G in ''Film/Jaws2'' Martin points out it's weird they are being attacked by another shark and half-seriously suggests it might be looking for revenge. However, the whole idea is only brought up in one scene to be shot down and forgotten about.) Why this film is so reviled is mainly because it takes those two story elements and brings them up to eleven, as if someone was deliberately trying to take the most ridiculous bits of the ''Jaws'' universe and make them stand out as much as possible.
* SugarWiki/FunnyMoments: Creator/MichaelCaine's incredibly nonchalant OhCrap when the shark is charging at him. Also when questioned on his day job, he dryly states "I deliver laundry" without another word said of it.
* HarsherInHindsight:
** Creator/JudithBarsi plays Michael's daughter, who is almost killed thanks to Michael neglecting to warn his family that there's a shark nearby. She almost died because of her father, yeah...
** Even harsher, she was suffering considerable abuse from her father at the time she was filming this movie, who put a sharp kitchen knife to her throat and threatened to hunt her down and kill her if she did not return from the Bahamas when filming was complete. Judith was rendered hysterical.
* HeartwarmingInHindsight: Lance Guest served as a pall bearer during Judith Barsi's funeral.
* SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments: Many of the town attending Sean's funeral considering what happened in his death.
* HilariousInHindsight: The heroes use the shark's electroreception to confuse and enrage it. A few decades later, it was discovered that great whites and their relatives, such as the mako shark, have a weak sense of electroreception, which means their plan shouldn't have done much to the shark.
* MemeticMutation:
** The tagline "This time, it's personal".
** In a meta-sense, Creator/MichaelCaine's famous MoneyDearBoy quote about the film--"I have never seen it, but by all accounts it is terrible. However, I have seen the house that it built, and it is terrific."
** And of course, the roaring shark.
* {{Narm}}:
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YqiWWmAEfTA A roaring shark?!]]
** The supposed suspense of the attack on Thea is ruined by the terrible acting of nearly everyone in the scene. (Creator/JudithBarsi *does* remind us all why Creator/DonBluth was later so impressed with her, however)
** Ellen assuming her husband Martin died of a heart attack from fear of Jaws. Yes, the same man who had the balls to fight a great white ''twice'' supposedly died from fear of it. Quite the insult to such a badass character.
** Michael's weird cry of Jake's name as it looks like his friend's eaten by the shark. As WebVideo/TheNostalgiaCritic puts it, it sounds like he's doing an impression of a dolphin humping a goat.
** Ellen laughing to herself at Sean's funeral, then later tearing up as Mike plays with Thea, instead of the other way around which would've made her reactions more appropriate.
** The fact that the shark supposedly travelled from the United States to the Bahamas, all for its revenge... Heck, the fact alone that it's supposedly attacking the protagontists for vengeance sounds quite silly. The VoodooShark {{handwave}} makes it even more silly.
** When the shark first attacks the crew, they sound less terrified and more irritated.
--> '''[[Series/TheLateShow1992 "The zany Rastafarian scientist"]]:''' (in an annoyed yet casual tone, placing a hand to his hip as he and Michael curiously watch the shark chomp at the boat) Jesus Christ!
** Hoagie somehow outrunning a great white in the ocean. Not helped by his shirt being dry in spite of that.
** Jake surviving being ''mauled'' by a great white shark.
*** Related to that, the only adjustment to the final scene is to have a dubbed line of Ellen telling Michael to take good care of him. But we're still left with his now inexplicable sadness and her asking him if he's going to be okay.
** Ellen having flashbacks to her dead husband fighting the shark, even though she was never there when it happened. Makes her recounting and then finishing his PreMortemOneLiner rather odd.
* NarmCharm: Creator/MichaelCaine's OhCrap moment was probably not meant to be funny, but it sure as hell beats the rest of the film.
* NeverLiveItDown: The scene where Michael Caine re-emerges from the water after somehow outrunning the shark and his shirt, "[[Creator/GeneSiskel is as dry as if it had just been freshly laundered!]]" Reportedly his shirt dried between takes in the Caribbean heat, and when no one else seemed to have noticed, Caine opted to stay comfortably dry rather than point it out and get hosed down.
** The shark roaring.
* {{Sequelitis}}: The film is considered to be the worst ''Jaws'' film, and it's frequently placed on lists of worst movies. WebVideo/TheNostalgiaCritic appropriately dubbed it "the unnecessary sequel to the unnecessary sequel of the unnecessary sequel." Also, when opening the ''Series/SiskelAndEbert'' review, Creator/RogerEbert snarked, "Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the theater."
* SignatureScene:
** [[{{Narm}} The]] [[SpecialEffectFailure shark]] [[MadeOfExplodium exploding]].
** Or the shark ''[[ArtisticLicenseBiology roaring]]''.
* SoBadItsGood: The film comes with a ludicrous plot (a shark that has a personal vendetta) and ''very'' poor special effects.
* SpecialEffectFailure: There's a reason this film "won" Worst Visual Effects at that year's [[UsefulNotes/GoldenRaspberryAward Razzie Awards]].
** The very obvious models used when the shark explodes. These were to appear more in the film, but were deemed a poor match for the on-set prop.
** The shark itself, which is only ''slightly'' better than that featured in [[Film/Jaws3D the previous movie]]. In several shots you can see the rod used to move the mechanical shark. It's telling when members of the production staff, including the director, are calling it a "concrete log with teeth".
** The shark oddly seems to tilt to one side while moving in a lot of the scenes, possibly due to the prop not being weighted properly.
** The film was shot in Super 35, which meant that it was shot in 4:3 and matted for widescreen. When Creator/TheBBC aired the film in the late-1990s/early-2000s, the mattes were removed, revealing the most notorious cases of this trope. In the scene where the shark chases after Michael, audiences can now clearly see [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbv9IybXyKQ a pole sticking out of the beast's chest in every other shot!]]
** During the first attack, blood can clearly be seen in the water before it has begun to maul Sean. You can also see the outline of the actor’s arm under his jacket after it’s bitten off.
*** Also doubles as StockFootageFailure, as the shot of the shark appearing out of the water was clearly taken from later on in the film when Michael, Jake and his crew were chucking chum in the water, explaining why the water was so bloody to begin with. That and it looks like the sun is out when the shark appears when it’s ''night time'' when it attacks Sean.
* TearJerker:
** Sean's pleas of "God help me!" as he's being torn to shreds by the shark, while the blissfully unaware locals on the dock continuing to sing Christmas carols, thus drowning out his cries for help, can actually be very moving.
** There's a sad moment on the beach where Michael regrets how he resented Sean always trying to tag along with him when they were kids.
** Jake dies in the original ending, resulting in Ellen quietly asking Mike "You gonna be okay?", as he's now lost his brother and his best friend to this creature in the span of only a few weeks. It takes a long time for him to answer and even then, it's pretty obvious that his "Yeah" isn't sincere. For such a bad movie, it's a decently executed BittersweetEnding.
