Context YMMV / DigDug

* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation:
** Notably, ''WebVideo/WeirdVideoGames'' [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-VDrZ_lArQ seems to view "Dig Dug" as a]] VillainProtagonist.
** As ''WebAnimation/ZeroPunctuation'' [[https://youtu.be/02y-8l_ZNhY notes]], there's a lot of sexual context in the game and box art, making it doubly {{Squick}}y.
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic:
** The original ''Arrangement'' and ''Digging Strike'' have some catchy tunes; the latter even has an unlockable SoundTest!
** WebAnimation/DeathBattle [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmeHoW2wNEQ seems to think the same as well.]]
* DemonicSpiders: The Dodongadons from the original ''Arrangement'' are a real pain to deal with. Not only do their fireballs have unlimited range, but they also don't have a cooldown, and the Dodongadons often appear in swarms alongside other enemies making it tricky to get in close to defeat them. Also, their fireballs can eat through the dirt, so you can't hide from them that way.
* FirstInstallmentWins: ''Dig Dug'' is a well-known classic. ''Dig Dug II''? Not so much. ''Dig Dug: Digging Strike''? Even less known.
* FridgeHorror:
** The low-resolution graphics and fun nature of the game make it hard to initially notice how horrific a death you are inflicting against your opponents.
** In ''Dig Dug II'', you can kill enemies by jackhammering the ground beneath them so they fall into the water. At the end of the level, any remaining enemies will try to escape by... jumping into the water. Are they committing suicide?
* IAmNotShazam: [[{{Retcon}} Retroactively]]. ''Dig Dug'' actually refers to the events of the game, canonically known in the ''Dig Dug[=/=]VideoGame/MrDriller'' universe as "The Dig Dug Incident." Before ''Mr. Driller G'', which would be the first time Taizo's name appears in full, he was always called "Dig Dug" in official material, and he still is in some odd adaptations (such as the ''VideoGame/{{Mappy}}'' web cartoon, or ''VideoGame/NamcoHigh'').
