!!For the animated series:
* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: The opening of "The Blame Game" features Miss Kisskillya imagining herself in a parody of the opening of ''Film/{{Scream}}'' where she ominously threatens to give Lemonjella and Orangejella detention over the phone. While it's implied to be a result of Kisskillya's toothache causing her to imagine things, it's got no bearing on the plot and never gets mentioned in the rest of the episode.
* {{Cult Classic}}: The show is seen as decent these days, although some see it as a rip off of ''WesternAnimation/{{Recess}}''.
%%* EnsembleDarkhorse: Shareena
* HilariousInHindsight:
** Each time [[Creator/TaraStrong Shareena]] and [[Creator/CarlosAlazraqui Gug]] interact, it's basically [[WesternAnimation/TheFairlyOddParents Timmy Turner and Mr. Crocker]] talking to each other.
** In one episode, Emmitt mentions a tv show called [[WesternAnimation/InvaderZim Mysterious Mysteries.]]
* SuspiciouslySimilarSong: How has Shampoo not sued the show for their theme song sounding too similar to Trouble?
* {{Tearjerker}}:
** "Boyz 'N the Parenthood": Emmitt sitting on the curb waiting his father to come and pick him up so they can spend the weekend together, but he never shows.
* TheyCopiedItSoItSucks: It has often been accused of being a ''WesternAnimation/{{Recess}}'' rip-off, even though the only things the shows share are being late '90s animated series about kids in a school dealing with a mean teacher. Other than that, both shows are completely different and don't follow the same formula.
* ToyShip: Shareena and Emmitt. All the friends had histories dealing with each other's quirks, but a few of Emmitt's charismatic yet comically misled moments really brought out the snark in Shareena.
----
!!For the film:
%%* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: The second half of the film is practically a Big Lipped Alligator ''Movie''.
* HarsherInHindsight:
** One of the bullet points in Taylor's guide to not being a total reject states "your lack of faith in the durability of Music/{{Kesha}} is disturbing." That joke became funny once Kesha did indeed fall from mainstream popularity… only to became a lot less funny come 2016 once people learned precisely ''why'' her career flatlined so quickly. [[SubvertedTrope Then it became funny again]] when, come 2017, Taylor was proven right and Kesha enjoyed a CareerResurrection.
** [[spoiler:Sander being motivated to murder people [[EntitledToHaveYou because Riley won't put out]] is harder to watch in the wake of multiple mass shootings, especially Isla Vista, which were committed for similar reasons.]]
* HilariousInHindsight: A girl named Taylor gets thrown out a window and lands on top of a car in a film directed by Joseph Kahn. Is this the opening scene of ''Detention'', or the opening of the video for [[Music/TaylorSwift "Bad Blood"]]? (Though in the latter case, [[WeCanRebuildHim she gets better]].) Even the way in which they're [[https://riversofgrue.files.wordpress.com/2015/10/detention-movie-hoobastank-cut-throat.jpg splayed out]] [[http://ell.h-cdn.co/assets/15/21/980x612/screen-shot-2015-05-18-at-80352-am.png atop the car]] looks eerily similar.
** Similarly, the mention of Hoobastank in the "BITCH" acronym seemed like just a weird and dated reference when the film came out… fast forward to 2017 and the release of ''VideoGame/SonicForces'', which includes vocals by the lead singer of Hoobastank in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjehy3_G8Lk its main theme]].
* HollywoodHomely: Toyed with. Riley's injured foot and clumsyness may be a reference to the high school film cliche.
* OneSceneWonder: Taylor Fisher. She would have become TheScrappy if she had gotten more than one scene… but oh, what a scene.
* RetroactiveRecognition:
** Before he got selected for ''Film/{{the Hunger Games}}'', [[Creator/JoshHutcherson Peeta Mellark]] was a skater boy.
** [[Film/TheConjuring Andrea Perron]] went from battling a psycho killer to battling a haunting.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: Taylor Fisher. A lot of the movie's haters considered her to be the ''only'' funny part and wish she'd lasted longer.
* UnintentionalPeriodPiece: The opening scene is as much a MisterSandmanSequence for 2011 as the actual "Mister Sandman" Sequence that we get for 1992, while the rest of the film is filled with gags about TorturePorn films, fad diets, '90s nostalgia, and the culture clash between the teens of the early '90s and the early '10s.
