* BrokenBase:
** Everyone had hype for the game once the alpha version went up for sale back in July of 2013. Many months had gone by since the alpha release and there hadn't been any updates to the game since then nor was there any word from the developer himself, despite people trying to get a hold of him. The sudden drop in updates and communication divided the fanbase into two camps; one side believes the developer created a scam to steal everyone's money and they want a refund while the other side believes that updates will come regardless on whether the developer talks about it or not.
** The developer finally spoke up towards late October of the same year, saying several factors were causing a significant delay towards the next patch release, such as an improved launcher, new enemies, rebalancing to make the game easier for low level players and harder for high level players, etc. The developer also went on to say that he was also trying to improve customer support, have a better website for the game, and had moved to a bigger apartment to help develop the game at a smoother rate.
** However, after making a few more posts showcasing the new stuff he was working on, Wollay went quiet again for several more months, causing people to, once again, fear that he fell off the face of the earth and stole the money people used to buy the game while the other side of the camp says this is how Wollay operates and shouldn't be rushed.
** The Picroma website had disabled both registration and the store page. Though Wollay's wife Pixxie has been replying to emails, people are still largely unimpressed by this move, though the faithful believe this could be a preparatory step towards the next big update. They eventually revealed the game being launched on Steam.
** The beta heavily divided the community. Several things from alpha were changed or removed, such as EXP no longer used to level up, several abilities being removed, gear being more difficult to find, and all gear and mobility items vanish when you go to a new region. Many people hated the changes and felt the six year wait wasn't worth it while others feel the game is better than it was in alpha and that the complainers are making a stink over nothing.
* DemonicSpiders: Any hostile Mage adventurer is one. Currently, their attacks almost never miss, especially the tornado attacks by staff-wielding Mages, and are almost impossible to fully dodge.
** Taken up to eleven by Wizard or Witch hostiles. Some of them have a laser skill with 100% accuracy, and do a stupidly high amount of damage. [[http://i.minus.com/ibjOV4xKzZrLIo.gif You're basically fried if you get into range of one.]] Pray hard if you encounter an extremely strong Fire Mage since their massive fireball spell can end you if you don't dodge right away.
*** And never mind ''four''. Collective {{Beam Spam}}ming = [[CurbStompBattle death in literally two seconds]].
* GoodBadBugs: During alpha and beta, there are a massive ton of bugs. A few of the more common (and hilarious) ones:
** Rangers:
*** When using a crossbow, the RMB move, which usually requires MP to even do damage, can be [[http://youtu.be/cpwf07_KXl0?t=42s spammed at machine-gun rates without any MP.]]
*** The Ranger 2nd skill, Retreat, works by giving momentum to the player. This can be exploited to allow [[http://youtu.be/cpwf07_KXl0?t=3m19s bunny hopping]], or [[http://youtu.be/cpwf07_KXl0?t=4m56s hang-gliding at ludicrous speeds]].
*** Though those two bugs were fixed in a later patch.
** Rogues:
*** Ninjas have a passive, Elusiveness, that allows their next RMB attack or skill to be a CriticalHit, if they successfully dodge an enemy's attack. However, when the passive is up, [[http://youtu.be/TiYmSr1_nb4?t=1m20s all LMB normal attacks]] become 100% critical hits until RMB or a skill is used!
*** The next bug is more of an oversight, but the other Ninja passive, Counter Strike, makes the ninja invulnerable when he performs a special attack (RMB or skills). Combo that with the bug above, and [[http://youtu.be/TiYmSr1_nb4?t=2m48s you have a nigh-invulnerable character.]]
*** Last but certainly not least, when you hold down skill 2 and then 1 as a rouge, and look at an angle higher than your character, [[http://youtu.be/TiYmSr1_nb4?t=8m45s you just take off and float up in the air.]]
** Mages:
*** During beta, holding Shift as you fell would have your mage slowly fall and avoid fall damage. Doing this from a huge height and rapidly pressing Shift helped you stay in the air almost indefinitely. A patch was then released that squashed the exploit. While you can still do the old trick somewhat, you'll still descend.
* OlderThanTheyThink: ''VideoGame/ThreeDDotGameHeroes'' is a voxel-based RPG released nearly 4 years after ''Cube World'''s alpha version, minus the WideOpenSandbox elements. There's a ''tiny'' group of people who think the latter game actually derived its concept from ''3D Dot Game Heroes''.
* OvershadowedByControversy: Upon the game finally being completed and released on Steam, it was met with a heavily mixed reactions from everyone. Despite the flaws the game has (region locked gear, no end game content, etc), the game quickly became known for having a pair of developers that did the following: went silent after the game went live in the face of the criticisms, revamping the game's website to reflect the current game (and effectively removing traces of what the alpha version had), and banning/censoring people that had anything negative to say about the game.
* ScrappyMechanic:
** Region locked gear. Any gear you find will have its stats reduced to the bare minimum if you cross into another region. This means that your most powerful equipment can become worthless the moment you cross a region border, forcing you to find gear all over again. The rule also applies to mobility gear, which means if you're crossing a border by boat or hang glider, they'll suddenly vanish into thin air. It's likely that this was done to prevent the player from getting powerful gear and then steamrolling everything as they explored. Thankfully, you can use your gear again if you go back to the region you found them in.
** On a related note, the game encourages you to go for OneHundredPercentCompletion in a region by finding ''everything'' (lore, places of interests, Shrines of Life, etc). Finding everything has your gear and future gear in that region labeled with a "+", which has its stats carry over to adjacent regions, but doesn't affect you in further regions beyond that. Likewise, you're encouraged to get artifacts, but they're always hidden in the most dangerous zones and the artifacts only give a small boost to minor things such as bigger lamp radius or faster swim speed.
* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: The release of beta was quickly trashed by people that saw how different the game was compared to the alpha version; EXP is no longer a thing and gear is what determines most of your strength. Villages only show up on the map if you find them. Skill trees, and by extension, certain skills, were gutted. The biggest complaint comes from region locked gear where whatever gear you find in one region becomes worthless in a different region. The fandom were more or less not happy with the changes.
