* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: Two words: ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbPlnKZP1fs Roll Tide]]''. [[RecycledTrailerMusic Used again for the trailers for]] ''Film/IndependenceDay''.
** It's Music/HansZimmer. Would anyone expect any less?
* GeniusBonus: During one of their conversations, Hunter and Ramsey get into a debate over whether Lipizzaner horses are bred in Portugal or Spain. Horse breeders would realize that both men are actually wrong, as Lipizzaners are bred in modern day Slovenia.
* MoralEventHorizon: [[spoiler:Captain Ramsey threatening to kill Petty Officer Hilaire to force Weps to open the safe for the firing trigger.]]
* NightmareFuel: The claustrophobia [[spoiler:of being trapped in a sinking sub approaching crush depth and having no idea if the repair crews can save your bacon]]. Also, [[spoiler:a) being the men trapped behind a closed hatch in a flooding compartment or b) being the man who closed it or c) being the skipper who gives the order to do so.]]
* RetroactiveRecognition: Crewmen of the ''Alabama'' are played by Creator/RyanPhillippe in his first film role, Creator/SteveZahn in his second, and Creator/ScottGrimes six years before his StarMakingRole in ''Series/BandOfBrothers''.
* TearJerker: As mentioned under NightmareFuel, ''Alabama'' is damaged by a torpedo near-miss, the bilge bay is flooding, and three enlisted sailors are trying to stop the leaks. Their division officer is at the hatch and reporting to Hunter that the flooding is getting worse. Hunter orders him to seal the hatch. The officer screams at his men, begging them to get out, [[HeroicSacrifice but they stay at their posts and continue trying to stop the leaks,]] until one of them [[EyeScream catches a rupturing bolt in the face]]. Unable to help them, the officer tearfully shuts and dogs the hatch--all he can do at this point--then reports to Hunter with a palpable mixture of grief and hatred in his voice. Topping it all off, Hans Zimmer's "Roll Tide" track [[{{Foreshadowing}} segues into "Eternal Father, Strong To Save," the hymn of the US Navy, as the compartment floods.]] Which is a call back to the exact same musical switch as when the boat itself dived at the start of the film, giving it a DarkReprise element.
