* AntiClimaxBoss: Dracula, believe it or not. His only attack is easy to avoid if you know what you're doing, and unlike almost every other iteration of Dracula in the series, he has only one form.
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: [[{{AwesomeMusic/Castlevania}} Given it's a Castlevania game, it's to be expected]].
** Popular songs from this game include all four of the first four Castle themes [[labelnote:explanation]]New Messiah (Crystal), Ripe Seeds (Plant), Psycho Warrior (Rock), Praying Hands (Cloud)[[/labelnote]] and Original Sin.
** Even if it's a PublicDomainSoundtrack, there's this rendition of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Fh1MDBi_sE Chromatische Phantasie]], which sounds amazing on the Gameboy's chiptune synth.
* SequelDifficultyDrop: All for the right reasons. Due to many returning enemies being somewhat slower or less unpredictable, Christopher moving at a much less sluggish speed, fewer instances of malevolent enemy placement, the addition of a Sub Weapon, and not losing your whip upgrades when damaged, the game's skill curve is much more forgiving early on. Overall, the game is much more skill-based rather than luck- or memorization-based. There are some exceptions, though; see AntiClimaxBoss above.
* SurprisinglyImprovedSequel: Whereas [[VideoGame/CastlevaniaTheAdventure the original Game Boy game]] was panned by some for its overly difficult stage design, this game did the ''Castlevania'' series justice by making the difficulty more reasonable, adding subweapons back in, and smoothing the frame rate.
