* CrossesTheLineTwice: The movie turns the ending (in which [[spoiler:Vic and Blood ''eat'' Quilla]]) into this, capping it off with the title song (an upbeat country tune) and the main duo laughing about it.
-->'''Blood''': [[spoiler: Well, I'd say she certainly had marvelous judgement, Albert, if not... particularly good ''taste.'']] ''(laughs uncontrollably)''
* CultClassic: The movie has grown into this in recent years, [[AdaptationDisplacement even becoming more iconic than the novel for some people]]. According to director LQ Jones, it actually made more money when it re-released in the 1980's than it did in its original run. It also helps that it went on to inspire ''{{VideoGame/Fallout}}''.
* HarsherInHindsight: In 1977, a couple of years after the film adaptation was released, a mentally unstable man named David Berkowitz (also known as the "Son of Sam") murdered several people, allegedly under the orders of a dog that could speak to him. Sounds awfully familiar, doesn't it?
* HilariousInHindsight: The android henchman is named Michael, who is mute, large in size, immensely strong, highly resistant to bullets, moves very slowly, has a chalk-white (due to the makeup he wears) emotionless face, and can brutally kill people with just his bare hands. Three years after the film adaptation was released, [[Film/Halloween1978 another movie]] would use a character with this same description as its antagonist.
* {{Squick}}: The "milking" scene.
* TooBleakStoppedCaring: Vic would be a villain in any other post-apocalyptic story, given he is explicitly looking for ''rape'' targets when the story begins. Blood is essentially his enabler. Quilla is [[spoiler:willing to murder as a first resort if things aren't going her way]]. Nobody else who has a name is any better.
* WhatDoYouMeanItsNotForKids: Based on the fact that the title is the archetypal ABoyAndHisX formation, more than one parent or grandparent has taken a child to see this movie. If there is any scene in this film that's appropriate for minors, it's very short.
