Noticing this, the writers elevated him to BreakoutCharacter status, giving him an appearance in nearly every episode of Season 2, including multiple [[ADayInTheLimelight Days in the Limelight]] for him while producing more and more [[TheMerch Catbug-themed merch]], which became the show's biggest source of revenue. This Catbug oversaturation, combined with some of his actions being controversial (like an alternate universe version of him turning into a misogynistic dictator in "Hamster Priest", or killing Jelly Kid, the show's second-biggest Ensemble Darkhorse, in "Jelly Kid Forever") led to him becoming more of a BaseBreakingCharacter.

There's also the problem that his voice actor is a young boy who's occasionally made to say age-inappropriate things, which doesn't sit well with fans who expected the epitome of cuteness. Thankfully Season 3 takes note of this and scales his role back considerably.
