----
* AntiClimaxBoss:
** The fight against Metal Sonic is ridiculously easy thanks to him having a very predictable pattern where he flies back and forth across the screen.
** The fight against Robotnik is easy, especially the first phase of it where he simply bounces up and down in his machine.
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: Of course. It seems that the most popular track from here is Sunset Park Zone Act 3.
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Fang is a very popular villain with fans despite his appearances for over 20 years amounting to a single game and a few spin-offs, owing to his striking design and unique role as a mercenary. Creator/IanFlynn would make him and his team, the Hooligans, into a full-on BreakoutVillain, with them being brought back and given the RetCanon treatment in VideoGame/SonicMania, albeit as illusions created by Heavy Magician. In turn, this led to Fang making his official comeback in VideoGame/SonicSuperstars, which was much-celebrated by the fanbase.
* EvenBetterSequel: The game takes what VideoGame/SonicChaos did right and makes it even better. The graphics are some of the best on the Game Gear, the level design is much more elaborate and fun, and the boss fights are just the right level of challenge for a fast paced game.
* SugarWiki/FunnyMoments:
** Many involving Nack the Weasel:
*** At the end of Special Stage 1, the player character comes across a sleeping Nack. Nack awakens and activates a switch, which instantly fries him.
*** In Special Stage 4, the battle against Nack involves him firing a giant missile. Dodge the missile enough times, and the missile takes Nack out.
*** The final fight against Nack in Special Stage 5. He's in a drill machine, and once you hit him enough, he'll fall and his drill will get stuck in the ground. You have to bash him all the way into the floor in order to defeat him.
*** After the player character defeats Metal Sonic in Atomic Destroyer Zone Act 3, they come across a sleeping Nack. Nack awakens and looks at the player character as if he's going to fight them one last time, but then he panics and runs away from Dr. Eggman, the game's true final boss.
* SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments: At the end of the game, Sonic (or Tails) will find Knuckles, duped and imprisoned by Eggman. Freeing him, Sonic (or Tails), showing no hard feelings, will offer a truce to Knuckles. With brief reluctance, Knuckles will shake hands and they will leave together.
* TearJerker: The ending track sounds rather bittersweet, perfectly conveying the fact the game was designed as the GrandFinale of the main Game Gear Sonic series.
* ThatOneLevel:
** While Tidal Plant is one of the more bearable underwater levels in the series, Act 2 has some irritating spots where there's a serious dearth of air bubbles, making it very easy to drown if you slip up, waste time or avoid using the giant air bubbles you can travel in.
** Special Stage 5 is very annoying due to sudden obtuse puzzle elements being thrown in.
* VindicatedByHistory: In a similar vein to VideoGame/Sonic3AndKnuckles, this game received mixed reviews upon release with critics criticizing the lack of innovation and difficulty. However, over the years, Triple Trouble has gotten a more positive reception, with some ranking it on par with the Genesis titles.
