!! The band:
%%* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: "Kiss the Bottle", "Want", "Fine Day", "Shield Your Eyes", "Chesterfield King", "Boxcar", "Condition Oakland", "I Love You So Much It's Killing Us Both", "Fireman"; the list goes on...
%%* EpicRiff: Four whole albums worth, thankfully.
%%* SignatureSong: "Boxcar".
* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: The main reaction to ''Dear You'' upon its release in 1995, due to the slicker production and Blake singing much more smoothly in comparison to the previous three Jawbreaker records.
* VindicatedByHistory: As mentioned above, ''Dear You'' wasn't received very warmly during its original release for a few reasons; however, fans started reconsidering their views of it after Jawbreaker broke up. When Adam Pfahler re-released it in 2004 after successfully licensing the publishing rights from Creator/GeffenRecords, the response was much more positive all-around.

!! The movie:
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: Take your pick. Imperial Teen's "Yoo Hoo", Veruca Salt's "Volcano Girls", Letters to Cleo's "I See", Transister's "Flow", Scorpions' "Rock You Like a Hurricane"...
* CatharsisFactor: Courtney being exposed at the prom, everyone turning on her, including the JerkJock leaving her on stage by herself, followed by some good old ProducePelting. Julie's kiss and "eat shit" is the icing on the cake.
* EsotericHappyEnding: Sure, Courtney is exposed for her crimes at the end of the film, but this trope and WhatHappenedToTheMouse sets in when you realize Julie and Marcie will surely be charged as accessories for Liz’s death and helping Courtney move the body. This seems to be deliberate, as Rose [=McGowan=] states that the movie was intentionally nihilistic.
* FoeYayShipping: The more Courtney pisses off Fern and Julie the more they seem to like getting up in her face, and in one confrontation Courtney says the experience is turning her on. Keep in mind that by 'getting up in her face', the scenes are typically one of the girls being shoved into a mirror or wall by the other, who flirtatiously responds, causing the other to be struck dumb by response. 'Pretty little Courtney', indeed.
* FriendlyFandoms: Usually with ''{{Film/Heathers}}'', as part of the 'killer clique' subgenre of movies, sometimes along with ''Film/MeanGirls''.
* HarsherInHindsight:
** Creator/RoseMcGowan staging a killing to look like a rape becomes this given that she, herself, had been raped by Harvey Weinstein. And how her character ostracises anyone who challenges her - namely Julie and Fern - considering she was blacklisted by Weinstein as a result.
** Likewise, it becomes difficult not to see parallels between Creator/RebeccaGayheart's involvement in a case of manslaughter in the movie and one in real life just two years later.
** Music/MarilynManson's cameo as the man who supposedly raped Liz becomes this given the abuse allegations made against him by Creator/EvanRachelWood, among others.
* HilariousInHindsight: William Katt and PJ Soles cameo as Liz's parents in a nod to ''{{Film/Carrie 1976}}'', with WordOfGod also saying that the casting of twentysomethings who look too old to be teenagers are nods to ''Carrie'' and also ''{{Film/Grease}}''. Judy Greer would later play Miss Desjardin in the 2013 remake.
* HollywoodHomely: Proven by her in-story transformation, all that made Judy Greer a.k.a. Fern/Vylette ugly was hair that needed some grooming and some non-flattering clothes.
* JustHereForGodzilla: The costumes are considered a huge draw of the movie by some viewers, even getting spotlighted for their appeal in ''Vogue'' and ''Rookie''.
* LesYay: Fern/Vylette really comes off as a StalkerWithACrush towards Liz Purr. She obsesses over her, describes her as perfection and spends all her class time gazing at the beauty marks on the back of Liz's neck.
* LGBTFanbase: Directed by the openly gay Darren Stein, with a smorgasbord of HomoeroticSubtext between the main characters, and an intentional {{Camp}} aesthetic, you bet the movie has a sizable queer fan base.
* LoveToHate: Courtney is a shit-tier human being, but she gets the best lines and is so entertainingly evil that she's beloved as a character. Rose [=McGowan=] got an MTV Movie Award nomination for Best Villain.
* MemeticBadass: Courtney has endured as quite the badass for her murder coverup scheme, and is often compared to [[{{Film/Heathers}} Heather Chandler]] or [[Film/MeanGirls Regina George]] as who would win in a HypotheticalFightDebate.
* MoralEventHorizon: While Courtney wasn't even remotely sympathetic, her murder of Liz was at least accidental. But she leaps over it when she [[spoiler: picks up a random guy, has sex with him in Liz's bed and frames him for the murder, as well as getting him falsely branded a rapist]].
* OlderThanTheyThink: A slow-motion scene of the popular girls walking down the school hallway is more commonly associated with ''Film/MeanGirls'', but fans of this like to point out that ''Jawbreaker'' did it first. ''Film/TheCraft'' also featured a similar shot, though the girls were outcasts and walking outside.
* OneSceneWonder:
** Creator/JeffConaway as Mr. Fox, Marcie's father. Even as the sensitive father who watches Oprah and his perceived [[InformedWrongness "corniness"]] (by Marcie, anyway), in his all too brief encounter with his daughter, he was completely right [[BetaBitch about her position in life (and in the movie).]]
** Music/MarilynManson himself makes a cameo as the creep that Courtney seduces and hooks up with in Liz's bed. Of course it probably helped that he and Rose [=McGowan=] were dating at the time of filming.
* QueerShowGhetto: Darren Stein deliberately inserted queer subtext into the story, and theorises that made it off-putting to heterosexual critics. Audiences however were a [[CultClassic different story]].
* RetroactiveRecognition:
** Hey, Courtney is [[Series/Charmed1998 Paige]]! She had some fame for ''{{Film/Scream 1996}}'' at the time, but ''Charmed'' would make her more famous.
** Judy Greer would become a more famous character actress in 2000s romcoms like ''Film/ThirteenGoingOnThirty'', ''{{Film/Elizabethtown}}'' and ''Film/TwentySevenDresses'', or else 2010s blockbusters like ''Film/JurassicWorld'', ''Film/AntMan1'' and ''Film/{{Halloween 2018}}''.
** While Julie Benz had already appeared as Darla in two seasons of ''Series/BuffyTheVampireSlayer'', she'd feature more prominently in the ''{{Series/Angel}}'' spin-off, and later become more famous for ''{{Series/Dexter}}''.
* SignatureScene:
** Courtney making Dane simulate fellatio with an ice pop is the scene Darren Stein has said he gets asked about the most.
** Closely followed by Courtney, Julie and Marcie walking down the hallway in slow motion as Imperial Teen's "Yoo-Hoo" plays.
* VindicatedByHistory: Considered a flop on its release, and reviewed poorly by critics, it amassed a cult following through home video rentals and is seen in a much more favourable light now; even been listed as "a teen classic" in a 2016 article by ''Vogue'' magazine.
* WTHCostumingDepartment: While it can be impossible to predict how fashion will evolve in the years to come, it's rather amusing that Fern's makeover to become popular and desirable involves getting a hairstyle that would be derisively called the 'Karen haircut'; associated with snobby, entitled middle-aged women.

!! The game:
* AntiClimaxBoss: [[spoiler:Enforcer X03, despite being a monstrous bioweapon, does absolutely nothing to harm you. All you have to do is run around an open park, find five missiles, launch them, and drop them onto the Enforcer. Your biggest threats during this boss fight are from the ten-minute timer, and the incessant gunfire and bombs being dropped from the helicopters in the surrounding area. If you die during this battle, it's gonna be due to bad luck of a well-timed missile or gunfire hitting you, not because of how difficult it is]].
* BestLevelEver: Darktooth's Lair is by far the most well-designed part of the game, as it forces you to use all of the gameplay's stealth mechanics to outmaneuver a chainsaw-wielding maniac while looking for three fuses so you can exit the area. The lair is very large and has multiple hiding spots, so it's possible to outrun Darktooth if he spots you. However, most of the area is ''pitch black'', meaning you have to decide between using your lighter to see where you're going or taking out the portable radar to determine where Darktooth is. And unlike everyone else, Darktooth ''does not'' die in one hit, meaning you won't be able to kill him if you only have one bullet for your shotgun (or pistol if you have it). All these elements combined, along with the first ten seconds of the aptly-named [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aw-e31hsBXw "Tension"]] playing on loop, result in this level being one of the biggest highlights of the game.
* CompleteMonster: [[BigBad The Faceless Speaker]] is the appointed leader of the Faceless Gang in New Citadel City. Longing to expand territory, the Faceless Gang gradually took over multiple districts in the city. After coming upon the New Citadel Police Department, the Faceless Speaker and his crew [[CopKiller slaughtered all of the officers]] in and around the building, [[DeadGuyOnDisplay hoisting up their corpses around the perimeter]] as a warning to outsiders. When the Protagonist sneaks into the building and is caught trying to steal supplies, the Faceless Speaker orders his crew to seek out and torture him to death, intentionally withholding where the Protagonist is located solely for his own amusement. Even after the Protagonist kills some of his men, the Faceless Speaker remains indifferent, going as far as threatening to lock his crew out of the bunker and allowing the Numb Bodies and soldiers to [[BadBoss kill them all]] for [[YouHaveFailedMe their repeated failures]].
* DisappointingLastLevel: Episode 3 is a considerable step down from the previous two. After capping off Episode 2 with the ludicrously-entertaining fight against the Faceless Speaker, the game suddenly turns into [[RemixedLevel backtracking through various areas you've visited before]], but with many routes blocked off or locked, resulting in the levels being much shorter and linear. There are very few puzzles to solve, some of the crucial items you've acquired like the portable radar are now broken/useless, and the [[NotUsingTheZWord Numb Bodies]], which are blind, slow enemies you can easily outrun, replace the much more colorful and threatening Faceless Gangsters. This is all capped off with a very underwhelming final boss that despite being advertised as a monstrous threat, doesn't do anything to harm you in-game.
* LoveToHate: The Faceless Speaker is an arrogant and smug troll who sits back and watches the Protagonist wander through the precinct, all while repeatedly taunting him. Yet his smooth voice is oddly enjoyable to listen to and fitting for the game's over-the-top nature. It certainly helps that his boss fight (and his theme song) is by far [[BestBossEver one of the most entertaining sections of the game]].
