* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation: There exist some theories that Tommy and Hedwig are the same person, at least in the stage show. The theory is [[EpilepticTrees a stretch]] in the movie, though not impossible.
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic:
** ''The Origin of Love'' and ''Midnight Radio''. Also the charity tribute album ''Wig in a Box.''
** The Broadway production's rock 'n' roll remix of the folksy [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIaFn5lsLd8 "Sugar Daddy."]], performed at the Tony Awards by Neil Patrick Harris. Rarely does anything so simultaneously sexy and catchy happen.
*** Don't overlook Creator/MichaelCHall 's full-on [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IE6ctN4nnRc rock star]]. Dexter sings!
* FetishRetardant: Something about Luther's seduction of Hansel is downright creepy. Maybe it's the way they're chewing the Gummi Bears... or how he lured him away with promises of candy...
* GeniusBonus:
** There's a lot going on with Luther and his Gummy Bears.
*** One, it's an allusion to Hansel and Gretel
*** Two, Berlin's city symbol, the bear, which is also slang for masculine gay men…
*** Three, it's a pun on the German slang word "gummi", which means "condom".
*** Fourth, it's reminiscent of sexual predators luring victims to them with candy.
** Many references to history and philosophy ("You, Kant, Always Get What you Want," and the deleted scene with Yitzhak's drag character, Krystall Nacht, as just two examples), and little German references in the lyrics ("sweet home Uber Alles!").
** The story depicted in the song "Origin of Love" is from Creator/{{Plato}}'s ''Literature/{{Symposium}}'', in which Creator/{{Aristophanes}} gives a speech about love being a product of the need to reunite with one's other half after being split into two, as punishment for conspiring to usurp the gods of Olympus.
* QuestionableCasting: As was the case for his stint on ''Theatre/HowToSucceedInBusinessWithoutReallyTrying'', Creator/DarrenCriss got this response from a lot of people when he was to take the role of Hedwig. The major complaints seen centered around his lack of a vocal range to suit the stage. And as per Darren's usual, all doubts were put to bed once he opened his mouth.
* TearJerker: Almost every time a song involves Tommy and Hedwig in the same scene is going to be pretty emotional.
