* DemographicallyInappropriateHumour: A couple of surprisingly adult references made it in some episodes:
** In "Abuelita's World", after Hamster and Gretel have revealed her superpowers to Abuelita and Kevin notes their parents don't know about this, Abuelita reveals that she used to be a go-go dancer before Carolina was born, in turn making Kevin and Gretel grandchildren of a whore. Kevin and Gretel have an appropriate response.
** In "U.F. UH-OH!", Gretel tries to warn Kevin about them driving the U.F.O. into the dam, by yelling "DAM!" Kevin mistakes this for an AtomicFBomb and berates her for using foul language.
** In "Sleepover with the Enemy", Gretel chases after a truck commandeered by Tina, as she and her Bolgylvanian cohorts are kidnapping Bailey and her dad. As Gretel flies next to the truck inside the tunnel, Tina instructs her cohorts to use the truck to crush Gretel against the wall, which leaves a large crack and a lot of ABloodyMess red substance... which turns out to be ketchup from a packet Gretel had in her pockets, but it's still surprisingly graphic.
** May apply InUniverse in the episode "The Bitter Sitter": whoever came up with the idea to fill people-shaped icicle pops with cherry syrup so that it looks like ABloodyMess when kids are biting their heads off may have a sick sense of humor.
* EnsembleDarkHorse: Fred has been pretty much liked by the fanbase for her deadpan humor, her ADayintheLimelight time to shine in "Cheer Cheer Bang Bang" as well as her undercover MsFanservice outfit, and for being a cool cousin to both Kevin and Gretel.
* FandomRivalry: A handful of vocal Owl House fans think their serious, serial show got cut short (as the series was cancelled, renewed for only 3 more specials, because it "does not fit the Disney brand"), in favor of the more episodic and comedic Hamster & Gretel, and got ready to call the end of an era for Disney Television Animation for shifting their focus from serial shows to "kids-only" shows (despite the fact that Hamster & Gretel has an ongoing plotline and sometimes adult humor). Naturally, that same handful of Owl House fans were pissed at the aforementioned "Sleepover with the Enemy" scene shown in the commercial. They were quick to call hypocrisy on Disney's part for canceling The Owl House for "not fitting the Disney brand" when the entire show was nearly not as graphic as Gretel getting "violently crushed by a truck and leaving blood on the wall" in that one particular scene.
* SuspiciouslySimilarSong: Hamster and Gretel trashing Professor Exclamation's robots is set to what sounds very much like "Yakety Sax". This same music was previously used in WesternAnimation/MiloMurphysLaw.
* UnintentionalUncannyValley: Many have pointed out how unsettling Gretel's face looks, with her apparent lack of eyebrows (they're actually obscured under her bangs most of the time), her big, oval eyes with visible irises and pupils, and her wide, near-permanent smile.
* TheWoobie: You can't help but feel bad for Hamster and Gretel in "For Whom the Belle Trolls". They're the target of a mass smear campaign against them by a JerkAss social influencer who is going after them for an unbelievably petty reason and the whole city turns against them. Hell, Gretel looks just about ready to cry as the police are about to take her and Hamster away.
** Kevin also has shades of this, notably in the ending of "Exclamation Strikes Back": [[spoiler:Due to him being kidnapped by Professor Exclamation to be used as bait for Hamster and Gretel, Kevin was forced to miss his date with Hiromi, arriving back just as she is about to leave. Since he still tries to keep Hamster and Gretel's superhero selves a secret, Kevin tries the same, vague, technically true excuse of him taking care of his sister, but Hiromi doesn't believe him and starts to think this isn't gonna work out; essentially, Kevin's relationship with Hiromi is probably ruined through no fault of his own. Shortly afterwards, the aliens show up and casually tell a frustrated Kevin that they never intended to give him superpowers in the first place. After that, just to rub more salt in the wound, they accidentally douse him in cleaner fluid.]]
