''The Suburban Jungle'' is a [[WebcomicsLongRunners long-running]] UsefulNotes/{{furry|Fandom}} [[SliceOfLife slice-of-life]] webcomic by John 'The Gneech' Robey, centring around the life and career of Tiffany Tiger. Ended (rather than simply being [[AbandonedSeries abandoned]]) mid 2009.

When the story opens Tiff is an aspiring model who works crummy temp jobs to pay the rent. More recently she has found acting success in ''[[ShowWithinAShow Kitten Kaboodle: Space Ranger]]'' and a role in upcoming film ''[[ABoyAndHisX A Girl And Her Dog]]''.

Early episodes involved Tiffany, her panda roommate Yin, Wensley the mouse and his brother Ramses (the angriest mouse in the world) and Leonard Lion, owner of a popular bar called "The Watering Hole". Later on the cast expanded, with several one-shot characters sticking around for the ride and other regulars including Tiffany's mother and siblings.

Some of the cast:

* Conrad Tiger: TroubledButCute model, actor and RomanticFalseLead who dated Tiffany for two years after they met at a shoot.
* Dover Cheetah: A programmer so [[{{Geek}} geeky]] his SpeechBubbles actually appear in code (though after he had been in the strip for a number of years he learned to talk normally). Pursued Tiffany romantically for some time before [[spoiler: becoming involved with her sister Comfort, to whom he is now married]]. Being a cheetah, he types super-fast.
** It's actually implied that it's not geekdom, but that he'd done so much programming (and presumably had so little contact with other people) that he'd literally lost the capacity to communicate the other way. Yeek. (Later explained more fully.)
* Drezzer Wolf: Tiffany's agent and a kindly MagicalQueer who dispenses life and relationship advice.
* Leona Lion: Model and actress whose career has been overshadowed by Tiffany's. She has fewer scruples than her rival, making her the EvilCounterpart.
* Leonard Lion: has had a secret crush on Tiffany for years, and has watched her date other guys, including Dover and Conrad, because he's [[IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy too nice to interfere]]. Tiffany finally starts to return his feelings - just as he finally gets over her, leading to UnrequitedLoveSwitcheroo.
* Yin: kooky ConspiracyTheorist whose notions turn out not to be so wild after all when she is abducted and taken to [[Series/ThePrisoner1967 the Village]].

In 2014; [[http://roughhouse.suburbanjungle.com/ a sequel comic]],''Suburban Jungle ([[PunnyName Rough Housing]])'', was started, starring Dover and Comfort's daughter, [[AlliterativeName Charity Cheeger]].

!!''The Suburban Jungle'' provides examples of:

* AgentMulder: Yin
* AllegedCar: The warranty on Natasha's car just expired.
* AlliterativeName: Tiffany Tiger, Leonard Lion, Wally Wallaby. Also Brody Coyote, an assonant name.
* BarefootCartoonAnimal: The entire cast.
** {{Lampshaded}} in [[http://suburbanjungleclassic.com/?p=2113 one strip]]:
-->'''Conrad''': I was on tour with a production of ''Theatre/BarefootInThePark''.
-->'''Leona''': What's so significant about being barefoot in the park?
-->'''Conrad''': I have no idea, really. It's a pretty whacked-out play.
* BrickJoke: If you cover the sun with your thumb, you can see [=UFOs=] hiding in the corona. And then get abducted by their crew years later.
** The [[CardboardPal cardboard cutout]] of Tiffany she uses to dodge an all-day meeting for a modeling shoot.
* CarnivoreConfusion: The Watering Hole is popular because it's a 'no predation allowed' bar, rigorously enforced by the landlord, allowing predator and prey species to mingle.
* {{Catch Phrase}}s: "Tigers don't do lawsuits!" "Are you crazy? Is that your problem?"
* {{Crossover}}: The episode of ''Kitten Kaboodle'' Tiffany appears in features [[WebComic/SabrinaOnline Zig-Zag]] in one of her uh, let's say "clean" roles. Along with many, many, other cameos.
* FurryReminder: All over the place, for example:
** As mentioned above in CarnivoreConfusion , predator species are free to eat prey species without consequence, making places like The Watering Hole popular for enforcing a "no predation allowed" rule
** Eddie the Ape has a tire swing in his office
** Comfort and Louis are Tiffany's half-siblings because their mother, Natasha, has had multiple husbands, like how real male tigers rarely stay with their mates. Natasha even says "We're tigers, it's 'till sex do us part'."
** Most species are to proper scale, mustelids and rodents are much smaller than the main cast, which consists of big cats and canines
** Lions often form prides with multiple females, Leonard was forced out of his home by his father and Athena shares her husband with another lioness in their own pride.
** Yin the Panda is mentioned to only be able to digest bamboo shoots
* [[FillerStrips Guest Artist]]: The entire Tiffarella [[http://suburbanjungleclassic.com/?p=950 arc]] was drawn by Scott Kellogg who does ''Webcomic/TwentyFirstCenturyFox''.
** Tiffarella has enough [[ShoutOut shout outs]] that it really needs its own page.
* GlassEye: Catscratch has one thanks to a cat attack, hence her nickname. She takes it out when doing her psychic stuff.
* HalfDressedFunnyAnimal: A number of characters got away with no pants, such as Yin, Comfort, and Drezzer. Though oddly most of the cast still wear them.
* HurricaneOfEuphemisms: Drezzer uses one to try to explain to Leona that he's not interested in her because he's gay. She doesn't believe him.
* LadykillerInLove: Leonard Lion toward Tiffany.
* LocalHangout: The Watering Hole.
* MagicalQueer: Drezzer.
* MistakenForGay: Conrad's own ''mother'' is insistent that her son is gay, despite his lengthy relationship with Tiffany.
* TheNapoleon: Ramses.
* NoBiochemicalBarriers: Averted - hybrids are possible, but the process (hinted to be similar to in-vitro fertilization) is prohibitively expensive.
* RelaxOVision: "SCENE OF INDESCRIBABLE CARNAGE!"
* RomanceArc: Leonard and Tiffany are working their way through this.
* SettleForSibling: Dover Cheetah eventually gives up his unrequited crush on Tiffany and begins seeing her half-sister Comfort. [[spoiler: They get married and are by far the most stable couple depicted.]]
* ShoutOut: Leona Lioness was considered [[http://suburbanjungleclassic.com/?p=441 less interesting]] than a geeky skunk with glasses who has [[Webcomic/SabrinaOnline her own comic.]]
* SpecialGuest: Mike from ''Webcomic/TheClassMenagerie'' dropped in for a while.
* SpeciesSurname: Most of the characters.
* UnrequitedLoveSwitcheroo: Leonard Lion and Tiffany.

!!''Rough Housing'' has examples of:
* AlliterativeName: Charity Cheeger and Langley Lupina continue the tradition.
* TheBartender: Langley.
* BreakingTheFourthWall: On [[http://roughhouse.suburbanjungle.com/comic/shoes-what-comic-is-this/ this page]], Charity runns so fast, she broke the panel border, as noted by the author/artist in the comment section.
* CatchPhrase: Charity seems to be continuing the tradition of "Are you crazy? Is that your problem?"
* FirstDayFromHell: Even though Charity's the new manager. The Rough House is falling apart, the bartender seems to think she's the alpha wolf, and their finances are so bad that the four employees just stay at the hotel in lieu of pay.
* GiantEnemyCrab: A giant, radioactive hermit crab to be precise. [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]] in a BreadEggsBreadedEggs way [[http://roughhouse.suburbanjungle.com/comic/theres-something-you-dont-see-every-day/ here]]. Where it is seen wearing an aircraft hangar.
* SpeciesSurname: It appears even hybrids have them.
* SpinOffspring: While Comfort and Dover weren't the central stars of The Suburban Jungle, they were important supporting characters. Their daughter, Charity is the star here.
* SurferDude: Roxie Fox is a surfer girl, but she apparently uses "dude" as a non-gendered pronoun.
