X-Men: The Ravages Of Apocalypse, developed by Zero Gravity Entertainment and released by [=WizardWorks=] Software, is a commercial total conversion of the VideoGame/Quake engine. Replacing the old maps and weapons are new designs, and all of the enemies in the game have been replaced with cyborg clones of popular Franchise/XMen characters, all with their own special powers—for example Archangel is immune to rockets, Wolverine has his healing factor, etc.

Being a total conversion rather than a completely new game, it required the full version of VideoGame/I to be played.

The game was released as freeware in July 2006. The source code of the game was also released, but under an ambiguous license. Modifications have been made to the game to allow it to run as a standalone title.

!!This VideoGame contains examples of:
* NinetiesAntiHero: The PlayerCharacter, who one-ups possible Expy Cable by having guns for arms.
* AnIcePerson: Iceman appears as one of the cloned X-Men and can freeze you in place with his attacks.
* AttackOfThe50FootWhatever: Apocalypse starts out as this in the boss battle with him.
* BigBad: Apocalypse in theory, .
* BloodierAndGorier: All the X-Men clones leave behind bloody, ravaged corpses when you kill them, assuming you don't use something like the flamethrower. Though inverted by Quake's standards, as enemies can't be gibbed.
* BottomlessMagazines: This mod adds reload or recovery time to weapons to prevent them from firing constantly. However, there's a rapid-fire powerup that removes this and allows you to fire weapons as if there's a bottomless feed.
* BuildLikeAnEgyptian: A lot of the levels have Egyptian iconography, as is appropriate for bases under the control of Apocalypse.
* TheCameo: Obscure 80s X-Men ally Gateway appears as the end level marker, and his powers provide the transport from one level to the next.
* CoolVersusAwesome: It’s X-Men blended with Quake, a 90s child’s dream come to life.
* CursedWithAwesome: Zig-Zagged depending on individual perspective. The protagonist willingly has Magneto replace his own arms with augmented firearms that he can control with his mind. Magneto himself mocks our hero for this idea, believing that it's a ridiculous superpower.
* DarkerAndEdgier: It's an X-Men game that requires you to kill the X-Men. Repeatedly.
* EnergyAbsorption: Bishop appears as one of the cloned X-Men and absorbs certain kinds of gun fire, forcing you to get creative when he shows up.
* EverythingTryingToKillYou: As is par for the course for an FPS game.
* EvilIsNotWellLit: Much darker and more dimly lit than the traditionally colorful X-Men games that came before it.
* EyeBeams: Cyclops appears as one of the cloned X-Men, and as you might expect attacks with these.
* FlyingBrick: Rogue appears as one of the cloned X-Men and can put a hurting on you real quick with her attacks.
* GratuitousNinja: Psylocke appears as one of the cloned X-Men and can stun the player character with her psychic knife attack.
* HealingFactor: Wolverine appears as one of the cloned X-Men and has one of these per the comics.
* HijackedByGanon: Yet again Apocalypse gets the rug swept out from under him in his own game, though at least this time his plans are mostly successful and it's hijacking his spotlight rather than .
* HubLevel: The X-Mansion serves as this.
* HyperspaceArsenal: Given at least a flimsy justification with the PlayerCharacter being a cyborg that forms his arms into the different weapons you'll use.
* ImmuneToBullets: Archangel appears as one of the cloned X-Men and is immune to rockets, using his metallic wings to shield himself from them.
* InASingleBound: The Wolverine clone gets around this way.
* KillItWithFire: A flamethrower is one of the weapons the player can acquire, and yes, you can reduce the X-Men to charred skeletons with it.
* TheManBehindTheMan: For Apocalypse, it's none other than .
* MissionControl: Magneto sets the PlayerCharacter on his mission and periodically communicates with him throughout the game.
* Mooks: Certain clones are more common than other clones. The Bishop, Psylocke, and Wolverine clones seem to be the most common.
* NighInvulnerability: Cannonball appears as one of the cloned X-Men and is completely invulnerable while rocketing around, forcing the player to wait until he powers down before perforating him.
* PowerFloats: And the Rogue clones prove it.
* PowerOfTheGodHand: One of the more powerful weapons you can use is a homing beam fired from your open palm.
* PuzzleBoss: Apocalypse starts out in his giant form, and you have to run around him activating pillars before you can damage him in any way.
* SaveScumming: As in the base game, you can save and reload at any time. Which is handy, since you will die. A lot.
* SlasherSmile: If you let the Wolverine clones get close enough, you'll see they all have these.
* StockSoundEffects: All the male X-Men make the same anguished death groan when you kill them. The female X-Men likewise have their own shared death sigh.
* UniversalAmmunition: The shotgun and chain-gun use the same ammunition, the latter using it much less efficiently.
* UnwinnableByDesign: The game warns you before leaving the level if you are about to miss one of the weapon components. If you do anyway, you cannot power the superweapon required to defeat Apocalypses' first form, as that is the only weapon that can bypass the target's invulnerability.
* VideoGameCrueltyPotential: Because Wolverine comes back to life, a favorite pastime for players of this game is to lure him into a lava pit where he'll die and revive three times for the PlayerCharacter's (and the player's) amusement.
* VillainProtagonist: You're a Cyborg soldier that serves Magneto.
* VillainousRescue: All the X-Men are captured, and it's up to Magneto and your PlayerCharacter to save the world (so you can take it over).
