Mazin Saga: Mutant Fighter is a 1993 BeatEmUp[=/=]FightingGame hybrid action game developed by Almanic Corporation and published by both Creator/VicTokai (U.S.) and Creator/Sega (Japan and Europe) for the UsefulNotes/SegaGenesis, being based on Mazin Saga: an AlternateContinuity manga series of the classic '70s Super Robot anime Anime/MazingerZ while following the template of classic arcade-style beat-em-ups popular at the time.

Set in the aftermath of a devastating invasion from the dreaded Godkaiser Hell and his army, the titular Mazinger-Z: a special type of fighting armor created by Dr. Kabuto in a last-ditch attempt to repel the invaders, is humanity's last hopes against legions and legions of mutant mooks and monsters. Koji Kabuto, son of Dr. Kabuto, dons the Mazinger-Z armor and assumes his heroic alter-ego in order to take on Godkaiser Hell's minions across multiple stages, defeating the villains' personal henchmen legion before confronting Godkaiser himself.

!!Mazin Saga: Mutant Fighter contains examples of:
* TwentyMinutesIntoTheFuture: Downplayed, the game is set six years after its release date.
* AdvancingBossOfDoom: Dino Head shows up as a "run first, fight later" variant, being a gigantic dinosaur-monster trying to chomp Mazinger-Z while chasing the hero through a series of platforms. Mazinger-Z then escapes to another area, fight some more mooks, and he size-shifts to a giant for a proper boss fight against Dino Head.
* AfterTheEnd: The game is set after Godkaiser Hell and his forces had defeated mankind and enslaved most of humanity, but luckily Dr. Kabuto managed to recreate a special type of fighting armor known as Mazinger-Z. And then his son Koji puts on the armor, takes on the alias "Mazinger-Z", and begins fighting back against the invaders.
* ArmCannon: A recurring CyberCyclops enemy in the game have a blaster grafted on its right hand, which it uses to shoot projectiles at Mazinger-Z. Either laser bolts, or grenades.
* BackgroundBoss:
** Garada K-7, the first boss, begins as a robotic Gashadokuro who attacks the human-sized Mazinger-Z on the rooftop of a Tokyo skyscraper, with Garada's head in the background as it repeatedly sends its hands lunging at Mazinger-Z. Damage its gigantic hands enough and Garada K-7 will briefly retreat, enabling Mazinger-Z to Sizeshifter grow large via a special power of the latter's armor and fight against it in a direct confrontation.
** The penultimate fight against Hell Mazinger plays out the same way, with Mazinger-Z in a building and Hell Mazinger's head outside the window in the background, as it tries sticking both arms into the building to grapple Mazinger-Z.
* BlobMonster: Piles of sentient blobs appear in the monastery, appearing as lumpy piles of mud before forming into humanoid shapes to attack Mazinger-Z.
* BossRush: Before confronting Hell Mazinger, Mazinger-Z must fight the previous bosses in a single stage, all of them Palette Swapped.
* EpicFlail: The preferred weapon of Slug Head in both its battles - a spiked ball on a chain it repeatedly swings at Mazinger-Z to smash him with.
* FireBreathingWeapon: A handful of Godkaiser Hell's human-sized mooks are armed with flamethrowers, though they're quite slow and can be cut down before they can incinerate Mazinger-Z.
* GiantFootOfStomping:
** A BossTease in the first stage have Mazinger-Z fighting Garada K-7's gigantic foot, who repeatedly attempts to stomp him into a pulp. Garada K-7 simply leaves after suffering enough slashes, before returning at the end of the stage.
* MakeMyMonsterGrow: Inverted. Mazinger Z is the one that grows to take on the Kaiju-sized bosses on even terms.
** Negative Mazinger appears in Egypt, portrayed in the same manner as a gigantic foot attempting to squash Mazinger-Z until it's slashed enough times. It then returns at the end of the level as a proper boss.
* HoverBike: Enemies will sometimes ride fast-moving hovercycles and attempt ramming them into Mazinger-Z, though they can be dodged by jumping and kicked off their ride in a single hit.
* LilyPadPlatform: Mazinger-Z uses these to cross a river filled with oversized plants in one stage.
* LivingStatue: The second-to-last stage in Tibet before Mazinger-Z faces Slug Head have him being attacked by a huge statue of the Goddess Kannon, converted into a weapon capable of spamming projectile attacks, and he needs to destroy it before he can proceed.
* MasterSwordsman: Mazinger-Z's default weapon is his trusty sword, and he's no slouch in using it. Many mooks serving Godkaiser Hell have swords as well, but they're nowhere as skilled as Mazinger-Z.
* PowerFist: The stronger, musclebound humanoid minions of Godkaiser Hell have armored fists as large as themselves. Their sole attack is a punch that deals even more damage than swords used by common mooks besides knocking Mazinger-Z off his feet.
* PoweredArmor: Rather than being a giant robot in this continuity, Mazinger-Z is a special type of fighting armor created by Dr. Kabuto which enables his son Koji to fight against the invaders on a level playing field.
* RollingAttack: Godkaiser Hell's legion of pillbug-humanoid can roll themselves into balls and attack Mazinger-Z by ramming.
* WolverineClaws: Red-clad humanoid enemies use these weapons - gauntlets with two claws on each - to attempt slicing up Mazinger-Z. They put up a slightly better fight than the lowest-level mooks.
