A short independent game created by Creator/AdrienDittrick for a 4-hour game-making jam, inspired by [[http://pastebin.com/K5BPcN1Z Lavender Town Syndrome]]. It can be played on most Windows operating systems.

The goal of the game is to [[Main/ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin escape from Lavender Town]]. To do so, you can use the arrow keys to move around, and the space bar to talk to the townspeople and read signs. You cannot leave the town by walking to the borders of the map. You must find another way.

The day after the game's release, competition judges who had played it posted it on [[Website/FourChan [=/x/=]]] and it promptly went [[https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=escape+from+lavender+town viral]].

The game can be downloaded for free [[http://gamejolt.com/games/other/escape-from-lavender-town/5007/ here]].

!! This game contains examples of:
* ContentWarnings: The loading screen features one about how the game will easily break [[http://sandbox.yoyogames.com/extras/image/name/san2/458/440458/original/healthsafety.gif the fourth wall]]
* ExactWords: The goal of the game is to figure out how to escape from Lavender Town. [[spoiler: Try pressing the ''ESC'' key]].
* ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin: You have to escape from the town called Lavender Town. [[spoiler:By doing that, you have to use the ESC key, which is a shortened version of Escape.]]
* TheFourthWallWillNotProtectYou: This game has a tendency to break the fourth wall, make sure that the area behind you is free of fragile objects.
* HumansAreTheRealMonsters: A Rocket member in the Lavender Shop deems this moreso than the other crime organisations, like Galactic (Sought to rid the universe of spirit) and Plasma (sought Pokemon liberation / world domination), while stating that what Team Rocket did (murder a Cubone's mother and cut off tails of Slowpokes in a forbidden area) was far worse.
* INeverToldYouMyName: This game searches for a very special environment variable, [[spoiler: which is the computer's username, and therefore generally the name of the player]].
* MoodWhiplash: The soft, mild ending theme stands in stark contrast to the generally-creepy tone of the rest of the game.
* TheMostDangerousVideoGame: The game purports to be a simple Pokemon hack. It becomes clear that this is not the case when you [[spoiler: close the game with the ESC key, and it re-opens itself]].
* ScreamerPrank: It seems at first to be a simple top-down [[RoomEscapeGame Town Escape Game]], until you [[spoiler: press the ESC key]].
* ShoutOut: One of the signs you can read [[spoiler: changes to say [[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaMajorasMask "You have met with a terrible fate, haven't you?"]], once it restarts into its horror form.]]
* SubliminalSeduction: Several deliberately creepy images are snuck in. Notably, some ghosts, a Marowak, a Cubone, and [[BreadEggsMilkSquick a severed arm]] holding a [[VideoGame/PokemonRedAndBlue Pokemon Red]] cartridge.
