The story revolves around the MART team led by Meguru Daimon with her mecha Grafdin and assisted with four fellow MART pilots, Sakimi Kanmaki, Yunna Dawson, Linaria Quo, Maiko Koutari, riding customized Merafdin units. During an investigation in Antarctica, they came across a humongous ship named Eltsard and along with it, a mysterious sentient giant/cyborg known as Didarion, and it also attracted similar beings named Angilon and Mabilon. During the crossfire, a portal opens up, separating Meguru with her other teammates, leaving her with just one, and stumbling upon one of the many parallel worlds present, where they came across Didarion's human form, an amnesiac boy called Dido. From there, Meguru must work with Dido to uncover his mysterious past, reunite with her friends and find out why Angilon and Mabilon are really hot on Didarion's trails.

Latter updates revealed that the transportation didn't affect just Meguru's team. Back in her home, another fellow Merafdin pilots, computer developer Eunice Airy and nurse Bennette Corryvekan, found themselves transported to other parallel worlds where they cooperated with various heroes to make due and find out what's going on, until their paths crosses with Dido and Meguru.

Unlike the preceding ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsXOmega'', it plays closer to the main series' TurnBasedStrategy formula. However, unlike traditional installments, allied and enemy units' turn order is decided by a unit's speed, making ''DD'' the first title to eschew the allied and enemy phases during turns. As opposed to many other gacha games (including ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsXOmega'' itself), you spend gacha resources (referred as D-Crystal) to obtain a mecha's attacks instead of using them to obtain the characters, you will automatically get the characters as you proceed through the story. It's basically a hybrid of a traditional ''Super Robot Wars'' story, combined with gacha mechanics.

The mecha's attacks are categorized with:
* '''Impact''': Attacks that involve blunt object smashing or using a mecha's own limbs, the purest of physical attack.
* '''Slash''': Attacks that involve using slashing using steel weaponry (though this also includes Beam Sabers).
* '''Bullet''': Attacks that involve shooting with guns or even missiles.
* '''Beam''': Attacks that involve using beam weaponry, mostly found in [[RealRobotGenre Real Robot style units]]
* '''Specials''': Attacks that cannot be categorized in any of the above or combining those traits. Common cases include the many many ChestBlaster attacks from [[SuperRobotGenre Super Robot style units]] ([[Anime/{{Mazinkaiser}} Breast Fire, Breast Burn]], [[Anime/UFORoboGrendizer Antigravity Storm]]) or [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamCharsCounterattack Fin Funnels]]

Each of these attacks were categorized into three levels of rarities (R, SR, SSR) and possess extra perks when put as an equipment piece or set as a main finisher, which can only be used after a few turns and had only limited uses. Latter updates would allow a unit to equip up to 3 finishers, but only one can be considered the main finisher and grants benefits.

----

!!''Super Robot Wars DD'' provides the following tropes:

* ActorAllusion:
** The first time the team has the idea of assigning one [[Anime/RebuildOfEvangelion Evangelion]] for each ship to protect them with AT-Fields, Shinji is assigned to the [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEED Archangel]]. He notes that receiving orders from Murrue feels the same as with Misato, as both of them are voiced by Creator/KotonoMitsuishi.
** During the debut scenario of ''Anime/JushinLiger'', basically everyone acknowledges that Ken sounds just like [[Anime/MashinHeroWataruSeries Wataru]]. They are both voiced by Creator/MayumiTanaka.
** While talking about their days in the [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam White Base]], Bright comments that the late Ryu Jose had a very similar voice to [[Manga/GetterRobo Benkei]], since Creator/ShozoIizuka voiced them both.
** [[Anime/KotetsuJeeg Kenji Kusanagi/Shin Jeeg]]'s very first SSR, Mouretsu Jigoku Hurricane, is preluded with a RapidFireFisticuffs (with spiked palms open) and Kenji yelling [[{{Kiai}} "ORAORAORAORA!!"]], basically a way for Bandai Namco to acknowledge that Kenji was Creator/DaisukeOno's earlier role before he landed the role of [[Manga/JojosBizarreAdventureStardustCrusaders Jotaro Kujo]].
** ''Anime/SSSSGridman'' debuts in an event without any of its supporting cast, thus requiring Gridman to find a new host. And what better choice than fellow Creator/HikaruMidorikawa-voiced character Masaki Andoh?
* AdaptationalBadass: While Mazinger Z is no slouch, this game gives it the Jet Scrander and the Reito/Freezing Beam attack, which it never had in the ''Mazinkaiser'' OriginalVideoAnimation. Great Mazinger in ''DD'' has the Navel Missile and Backspin Kick where the ''Mazinkaiser'' incarnation had neither attack.
* Main/AdaptationDeviation:
** [[spoiler:Unlike in the first season of ''[[Anime/MobileSuitGundam00 Gundam 00]]'', where Gundam Kyrios and its pliot were captured by the UN Forces. In ''DD'', they're unable to capture Kyrios causing them to flee instead after shot down the latter. Afterwards, the Gundam Kyrios was recovered by Ra Cailum together with Virtue at the end of Chapter 1: Part 12.]]
** ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEEDDestiny'' receives its most drastic change yet, as Shinn and Kira's first fight happens much, ''much'' earlier, before the dropping of the Junius 7 colony. The changes don't end there, as the Strike Freedom Gundam appears in the game ''before'' the Destiny Gundam, despite debuting later in their series.
* AdaptationalEarlyAppearance:
** Psycho Jenny doesn't show up until well into the second half of ''Manga/{{Devilman}}'', but here she is present from the start, as she is the representative of the Demons in negotiations with other villains.
** The plotline of ''Anime/AuraBattlerDunbine'' in this game starts with the mini-arc were Show and Garalia are sent to Upper Earth, except Show is already with the Billbine, which he obtained much later in the series.
** [[Anime/RebuildOfEvangelion Asuka]] debuts during the battle with the 5th Angel, instead of waiting until the 7th.
** The [[spoiler:Shin]] Great Mazinger itself who only appears in the last few episodes of the OVA. Here, however, it appears at the near end of Chapter 1: Part 3 (before getting Mazinkaiser who appears in Chapter 1: Part 10) where it got obtained by Dr. Hell and his Underground Empire force, but seized by Tetsuya with the help of Koji to pull out Baron Ashura's Brain Condor.
* AdaptationalIntelligence: While [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEED Azrael]] was never an idiot, he is portrayed as more competent here, and had a better control of his FatalFlaw (letting his wrath make decisions for him) before suffering a VillainousBreakdown. This version of the character is aware that invading Orb would be a PR disaster that could affect him badly in the future, so instead of openly doing it like in the series, he hires [[Literature/FullMetalPanic Amalgam]] to stage an attack, giving the Earth Alliance the chance of entering the country legally to "surpress" the terrorists. None of the heroes is fooled, but they have no way to prove the attack was a farce.
* AdaptationalJerkass: Shinn Asuka attacks Kira and the Archangel completely unprovoked, despite them saying that they have no hostile intentions.[[note]]The explanation being that the Divine Doers were labeled as dangerous, combined with how he considers the Archangel crew to be just as responsible for his family's death as Orb[[/note]] In ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEEDDestiny'' proper, his conflict with them started after Kira shot at the Minerva.
* AdaptationalLateAppearance: Many key players of ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamUnicorn'' - Full Frontal, Angelo, and the Nahel Argama crew sans Riddhe - don't show up until the last stretch of the plot of their series in the game. This is because the game combines the plot of ''Unicorn'' with ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamCharsCounterattack'': Char plays the role of Full Frontal and the Ra Cailum is the ship of the heroes. It's only after the plot of the movie ends that the missing ''Unicorn'' characters show up, but by that point the only things left to adapt are the last two OVA episodes.
* AdaptationalModesty: Sirene is given some extra fur to cover her breasts, because the game would not be able to get away with showing her fully naked like in ''Manga/{{Devilman}}''.
* AdaptationExpansion:
** The plot of ''Anime/{{Mazinkaiser}}'' starts with Kabuto and Tetsuya already experienced pilots who have been fighting Dr. Hell for a while. Here, the first chapter of the World 1 plotline features the first battle between Mazinger Z and the Mechanical Beasts, with Tetsuya nowhere to be found, making it closer to the original, longer TV series.
** Due to the limited screen time in the OVA, [[Anime/{{Mazinkaiser}} Great Mazinger]] couldn't use many of its original moves from [[Anime/GreatMazinger its debut series]], which usually is also the case for games that adapt the OVA. This game allows it to use [[https://youtu.be/uf55ZaU6htw?t=36 the Backspin Kick]], last used in ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsAlpha''.
* AdaptedOut:
** Both the 2nd and 3rd Forms for [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamIronBloodedOrphans Barbatos]] are skipped in ''DD''. Instead, Yukinojo found some parts for Barbatos that Maruba left them behind while he was making his getaway, which allow Yukinojo to upgrade its 1st Form straight into 4th Form. Likewise, the 5th Form is also skipped in favor of the 6th Form instead.[[note]]With the 5th Form Ground Type only mentioned in Barbatos 6th Form's Profile.[[/note]]
** [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamCharsCounterattack Meran]], the right-hand man of Bright during ''[[Anime/MobileSuitGundamCharsCounterattack Char's Counterattack]]'' and ''[[Anime/MobileSuitGundamUnicorn Unicorn]]'', is nowhere in sight, with his role being taken over by [[Anime/MobileSuitZetaGundam Torres]] like in the pre-''[[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsZ Third Z]]'' games. Additionally, [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamCharsCounterattack Kayra Su]], one of the Re-GZ's pilots and the girlfriend of mechanic Astonaige Medoz, is also omitted.
** [[Anime/{{Mazinkaiser}} Ashura Mazinger]] never shows up. While Ashura does capture Mazinger Z, they don't make it to Bardos Island because they stop in the middle of the trip to try to capture Mazinkaiser too. This gives the heroes the chance to recover Z before Dr. Hell can do anything with it.
** [[Literature/FullMetalPanic Nguyen Bien Bo]], [[spoiler:one of double agents who working for Gauron and also the one who killed Gail [=McAllen=]]], doesn't appear in the game. [[spoiler:Instead, Gauron takes his place and kill [=McAllen=].]]
** A handful of ''[[Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEED SEED]]'' characters, including the three M1 Astray test pilots (Asagi, Juri and Mayura) and the Biological CPU trio (Orga, Shani and Clotho), are not present in the game.
** [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWars30 Az Sainklaus]] does not appear at all, with Edge the sole pilot for the Huckenbein 30.
* AllThereInTheManual: Game information says MART means '''M'''ultinational '''A'''ntartic Underice Sheet '''R'''search '''T'''eam.[[note]]The Japanese website says that MART in Japanese is 南極氷床下調査隊.[[/note]]
* AlternateUniverse: Continuing the trend started by ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsZ'', the game's cast do not come from the same world, instead being split across multiple parallel universes. Were it not for the dimension mishaps occurring, they never would've met each other.
* ArtificialStupidity: When setting the game to "Auto", be wary that allied AI might do something stupid like using a big-damage skill towards an enemy that's about to have a sliver of {{Hit Point}}s remaining.
* AscendedExtra: Both Inko Amifumi and Yuki Kaizuka are focused on more than the rest of the ''Anime/AldnoahZERO'' cast after the two of them, along with Inaho and most of World 5 playable cast, were transported to World 1 at the start of Chapter 1: Part 4. This allows them to spend their time with London Bell before finding one of the gates that can return them to their world.
* BackFromTheDead:
** [[spoiler:Sometime after the defeat of Dr. Hell, Himika uses her magic to resurrect Baron Ashura, wanting to add more power to her side.]]
** [[spoiler:The Discord Diffuser is composed of villains who were previously killed, but somehow returned to life.]]
* BackToBackBadasses: Seen in the CG opening. As OriginalGeneration {{Mooks}} bombard the protagonist mecha ([[ImperialStormtrooperMarksmanshipAcademy or at least try to]]), two of them (the [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamIronBloodedOrphans Barbatos]] and [[Anime/ValvraveTheLiberator Valvrave I]]) spin around together then break off to [[CleanCut slice]] enemies with their {{katanas|AreJustBetter}}.
* BigGood: As usual in these games, [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamCharsCounterattack Bright Noa]] is picked as the overall commander of the heroes after they all unite into a single group thanks to his long military career.
* CantCatchUp: Sadly, due to the issue brought up in PowerCreep, some units, such as Devilman, can fall behind if they go too long without a new SSR.
* ChekhovsGunman: Haman is mentioned early on to still be alive and leading her own Neo Zeon group, separate from Char. She doesn't show up until Chapter 3: Part 10.
* CuttingTheKnot: [[Anime/AldnoahZERO Trillram]] is defeated for the first time the same way he was in his series, by exploiting an unprotected spot in his barrier that the heroes were able to find through a carefully planned trap. For the second battle, Inaho just has [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamWingEndlessWaltz Heero]] blast him with a full power shot of the Buster Rifle. The beam is so huge, it can cover Trillram's entire machine, meaning it ''will'' hit the unprotected spots.
* DemotedToExtra:
** Due to concerns of the gacha game balance, any multi-seated machines (like Anime/CombattlerV or Anime/VoltesV) only had [[TheLeader their main pilots]] (Hyouma and Kenichi) to supply the Spirit Command pools (which was a heavy {{Nerf}} for both, since multiple Spirit Command pools were one of these units' greatest strengths in previous installments). At least Chizuru and Megumi appear as obtainable Support SSR. But the others are kind of like 'background pilots'.
** The prototype version of Great Mazinger, who's playable in the previous games before getting replaced by its final counterpart [[spoiler:Shin Great Mazinger]]. In this game however, it only appears at the beginning of Chapter 1: Part 3 as an NPC unit and gets badly damaged by the combined force of [[Anime/{{Mazinkaiser}} Mechanical Beasts]] and [[Anime/CombattlerV Campbellians]].
** Unlike in ''[[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsZ Z2: Hakai-hen]]'', both [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam00 Johann and Nena]] appear only in some cutscenes without being fought. Leaving [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam00 Michael]] as the only member of Team Trinity that can fought.
** Compared to its appearance in the previous three ''[[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Super]] [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsJudgment Robot]] [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsW Wars]]'' games, ''Gundam SEED'' has only three playable units in this game, being the Aile Strike, Freedom and Justice, while the Sword Strike only appears as one of Aile Strike's SSR attacks. There's a few scenes where Mu La Flaga pilots the Aile Strike, but he's not playable.
* DiscardAndDraw: The Crossing Pilots are based around this idea, with pilots from one series piloting mecha from a completely different series. Currently, there are six: Amuro in the Mazinger Z, Lelouch/Zero with the Wing Zero Rebellion (a repainted Wing Zero EW), Masaki in the Bilbine, the pilots of ''Full Metal Panic!'' in the Voltes V, Eiji Asuka in Scopedog Custom and Asuka, Shinji and Rei in the Shin Getter Robo.
* EarlyBirdCameo:
** The second Crossing Pilots event lets the player control [[Anime/CodeGeass Suzaku Kururugi in Lancelot]] and [[spoiler:C.C piloting Gawain solo.]] before any notions of them being in the roster is considered. Likewise, [[spoiler:V.V appears as the boss of the event, but with FaceFramedInShadow]].
** Mecha Gilgilgan debuts in the non-canon ''Getter Robo Noir'' scenarios before showing up in the main story.
* EnemyMine:
** Once the [[Anime/BlueCometSPTLayzner Grados Empire]] launches their invasion in full with satellite weapons that could destroy several major cities, soldiers from both [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamIronBloodedOrphans Gjallarhorn]] and [[Anime/ValvraveTheLiberator Dorssia]] help the heroes reach the enemy mothership by taking care of the SPT squads on the way.
** During the second ''Manga/GetterRoboArc'' scenario, a duel between [[Manga/{{Devilman}} Sirene and Devilman]] is interrupted by Insectors showing up and attacking both. This forces the duo to team up to defeat the intruders. After the fight is over, Sirene tries to restart the duel, but Devilman would rather leave to ensure the invaders that escaped aren't going to kill anyone.
** The Combination attack between the Hi-Nu Gundam and the Nightingale is themed after this trope. The animation starts with Amuro and Char fighting against each other, until they are attacked by a unseen third party, making them focus in defeating the intruding party first.
* EvilCounterpart: [[spoiler:The Discord Diffuser. It's a group of people from across many worlds who are now working together just like the Divine Doers, except they are all villains. That the name of the group is also shortened to DD is no coincidence.]]
* FakeShemp: Aside from recurring case [[Anime/{{Daitarn 3}} Banjo]], ''DD'' marks the [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsXOmega second time]] Excellen's dialogue has exclusively consisted of pre-recorded voices [[note]]Though Excellen does have a lot more to work with than Banjo[[/note]].
* {{Fanservice}}: The support SSR sometimes features female characters in {{Fanservice}} outfit. But worth noting is Sanger's support SSR: [[WalkingShirtlessScene He's in his swimming trunks while proudly displaying his manly muscles]] with a BadassArmfold, reciting his usual BadassCreed for all to hear. (This is most likely based on his appearance in the ending credits of ''Super Robot Wars Original Generation: The Inspectors'')
* FanDisservice: [[Anime/{{Mazinkaiser}} Boss']] Support SSR part is him asking for a kiss to Sayaka. Unfortunately, before he got a DopeSlap (presumably by Sayaka), we're treated with the sight of [[{{Gonk}} Boss]] attempting to kiss the screen, with his huge lips closing in...and in...[[ScreamingAtSquick GAAAH!!]]
* FireForgedFriends: In a twist, [[Anime/UFORoboGrendizer Duke]] and [[Anime/{{Mazinkaiser}} Koji]] don't start as close friends here, since they come from different universes. Nonetheless, fighting together is enough for them to build a close bond, to the point Koji is quick to defend Duke when the Vagan Empire attacks him, making it clear to the enemies that alien or not, Duke is his friend.
* [[FolkMusic Folk Rock]]: The cover of ''[[Anime/AldnoahZero Heavenly Blue]]'' by {{Music/Kalafina}} is actually this genre due to its leads being a synthesizer and a flute-like instrument instead of the standard rock/metal guitar commonly used for other covers. It's also an appropriate choice, since this genre is close to Music/YukiKajiura's [[GenreBusting default genre]].
* {{Foreshadowing}}: After the World 6 crew joins the heroes in Chapter 2: Part 1, Kento comments that he heard rumors that his world had a Super Robot too, but Danji doesn't believe it, arguing they wouldn't have suffered so much under alien invaders if that was the case. During the third ''Getter Robo Noir'' event, Professor Saotome uses the Jamatai Kingdom as an example when he explains to his fellow villains about parallel worlds, stating there could be some world out there with different versions of them. So who should debut in Chapter 2: Part 2 if not ''Kotetsushin Jeeg'', an alternative universe to the original ''Kotetsu Jeeg''. This new series shares a world with ''Daltanious'' and as per its plot, the original Jeeg hasn't been seen in 50 years, explaining the dialogue between Kento and Danji.
* FrameUp: [[spoiler:Unlike in ''Gundam SEED Destiny'' proper, Kira doesn't actually kill Stella in this game. Instead, [[LightNovel/FullMetalPanic Gauron]] blew up her Destroy Gundam in a way that made it look like Kira killed her, all so that the latter would become the target of Shinn's hatred.]]
* GameplayAndStorySegregation:
** One of the more obvious ways this gacha game is different from the usual SRW game is that it's possible to deploy units that aren't actually present in the story. For example, each of the 4 (later 6) worlds of the game has its own set of initial stages that take place before they converge into a single story. Since the player gets units by finishing story missions, a player can finish the initial stages of one world, then deploy the units they obtained there when they play through the stages of a different world, even if those units don't even exist in that world yet. This is also convenient for the units obtained in temporary events, which often take place outside the main continuity of the game.
** During Shinn and the Force Impulse Gundam's debut stage, the player can deploy their other units to assist. What makes this odd is that, not only was the party nowhere near Shinn's location at the time, but the following stage shows that he likely wouldn't have accepted their help so easily, as Divine Doers were labeled as dangerous.
* GuestFighter:
** The game has a special set of maps to which players can use the cubes acquired from there to acquire pilots[[note]]With exception of Ingram, Axel, Ryusei's SRX, Sanger and Ratsel who instead can be obtained from their Short Scenario Event respectively.[[/note]] from ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration'', all that has no bearing to the actual ''DD'' plot. The available guests are as follows:
*** [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsCompact2 Kyosuke Nanbu and Alteisen]]
*** [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWars2 Masaki Andoh and Cybuster]]
*** [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration Kouta Azuma and Compatible Kaiser]]
*** [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWars2 Shu Shirakawa and Granzon]]

*** [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Arado Balanga and Wildwuerger]]
*** [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Sanger Zonvolt and Dygenguar]]

*** [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration Ratsel Feinschmecker and Aussenseiter]]
** A non-Original Generation guest features the ''Manga/GetterRobo Noir'' and its incarnation of the Getter Team there, having previously appearing in ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsXOmega''. However, it's not counted as an official story addition.
** [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsXOmega Asahi Inui and Van Ein]] are also eventually available after a few month of ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsXOmega'' closing down, likely as a memorial and a reminder of their existence. Shatte Judevesten is also available as a Support SSR for Asahi, making her the first of GuestFighter Support SSR. In a similar manner (without the closing down thing), this is also the case for [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWars30 Edge Sainklaus and Huckebein 30.]]
** [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsZ Rand Travis (and Mel Beater) and Gunleon]], despite not being included in the ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration''-verse, end up being included as a guest anyway, representing the ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsZ'' series.
* MyFutureSelfAndMe: With ''Anime/KotetsuJeeg'' and ''Kotetsushin Jeeg'' together in a series, Miwa gets to meet her [[SilverFox grandma self]] as seen in ''Kotetsushin''.
* MythologyGag: While ''Manga/MobileSuitGundamSEEDAstray'' didn't made it into this game, when Heero is listing the kind of people that could be around during the battle between the Strike and the Aegis to rescue Kira, he mentions junk dealers after Mobile Suits parts.
* NeverFoundTheBody: After the plot of ''Char's Counterattack'' is over, Amuro reveals they recovered the wreckage of the Alpha Azieru, and that the cockpit was missing. Since the cockpit was in the head, and the attack that destroyed it came from below, this leaves open the possibility of Quess having ejected in time. [[spoiler:And indeed this is what heppened.]]
* NeverTrustATrailer: Serving as a MythologyGag to ''Valvrave the Liberator'''s own marketing, the trailer for ''DD'' portrays the Valvrave exclusively in its white samurai-themed form, which only appears for a few seconds in the show.
* PaletteSwap: The second Crossing Pilots event has Lelouch pilot a Wing Gundam Zero with the Shinkiro's color scheme.
-->'''Lelouch:''' That Schneizel. He actually managed to reproduce it!
* PostScriptSeason:
** By the time World 2's story really gets underway, the plot of ''Zeta Gundam'' has already ended off-screen, with a combined ''Char's Counterattack'' and ''Gundam Unicorn'' plot taking the stage.
** In a reversal of ''[[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsT T]]'''s situation, Shion and Silkie were transported to the current World 1 immediately after the final battle of the ''Dunbine'' OVA, leading them to participate in the events of the ''Dunbine'' TV series.
** As for the World 5, one of its two separate worlds is that ''Endless Waltz'' has already done just before Heero Yuy and Duo Maxwell were transported to the world of ''Grendizer'', ''Daitarn 3'' and ''Aldnoah.Zero'' immediately, which is leading Heero to pursued the Black Ghost, known as Akito Tenkawa, who's also transported to that world as well.
* PowerCreep: Newer SSR attacks are almost always significantly more powerful than anything that came before, as the new idea is to fill the new attacks with several passive abilities that enhance their power in battle, or the ability to debuff the enemy, instead of being a simple stat boost. As a result more SSR that came out with the game's introduction have fallen behind significantly and are only really good if you have nothing better or just need another strong attack. As it stands the game has changed from units gaining stats per battle, to gaining stats as their will increases, to now starting with increased stats on top of gaining stats per battle in order to keep up with stats per will units.
* PowerUpLetdown: Subverted. When you get 'upgrade' units like Shin Getter Robo or Freedom Gundam, you can only choose one mecha for its respective pilots (Ryoma or Kira). But they don't come with any exclusive SSR skills, you have to get them via gacha first. Therefore, the new upgrade tends to look weaker than the original units (Black Getter or Strike Gundam), and it will stay that way... until you get lucky in gacha and obtain their SSR skills, in which you have to spend resources for them too to make them actually worthy of being called 'upgrade'.
* ProtagonistPowerUpPrivileges: SSR skills are mostly given to a series' main protagonists. Out of the OriginalGeneration, only Dido and Meguru have SSR skills, while the supporting Grafdin pilots max out at the SR-level. That was during the initial build, over time, Creator/BandaiNamcoEntertainment have started giving out SSR skills to non-protagonists ([[Anime/{{Mazinkaiser}} Tetsuya Tsurugi]], [[Anime/RebuildOfEvangelion Rei Ayanami and Asuka Langley Shikinami]], [[Literature/FullMetalPanic Melissa Mao]], for instance), the first amongst the aforementioned supporting Grafdin pilots being Yunna Dowson.
* RedemptionRejection: The heroes do offer [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEED Azrael]] the chance of surrendering peacefully and atoning for his sins upon his defeat. This being Azrael, he just keeps ranting about how he has nothing to atone for because killing every single Coordinator is the right thing to do. At this point [[Manga/{{Devilman}} Akira]] decides to deal with him permanently like he would to any Demon from his world.
* TheRemnant: Members of [[Anime/MobileSuitZetaGundam the Titans]], including Jerid Messa, have survived [[Anime/MobileSuitZetaGundam the Gryps Conflict]], and are looking to get to Laplace's Box before it can potentially do harm to TheFederation. Of course, since that requires getting the Unicorn Gundam, they get into a conflict with Londo Bell.
* RevisitingTheRoots:
** The return of a CG opening featuring some of the cast's robots, a staple of the franchise that stopped after the ''[[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsZ Third Super Robot Wars Z: Tengoku-hen]]''.
** This game is the first ''Super Robot Wars'' title with traditional game-play to include a 1970s series outside of the "[[Anime/Zambot3 Invincible]] [[Anime/Daitarn3 Trilogy]]" since ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsL''. Furthermore, it is the first traditional installment to feature a ''debut'' '70s series since 2003, when ''Kotetsu Jeeg'', ''Combining Squadron Mechander Robo'', and ''Anime/FutureRobotDaltanious'' made their respective debuts in ''[[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Super Robot Wars Alpha 2]]'', ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsCompact3'' and ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsDestiny''.
** ''DD'' is the first game since ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsW'' to utilize only the original ''Gundam SEED'' as the representative of the "[[AlternativeCalendar Cosmic Era]]" narrative instead of mixing it with or going straight to ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEEDDestiny''
** ''DD'' is also the first game since ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsAlpha'' where the enemy of ''Anime/CombattlerV'' started with Oreana and Garuda, instead of going straight to Janella, Warchimedes and Dungele.
* {{Sampling}}: A minor example that just quotes the lyrics - "Dimension Drive" by Music/JAMProject in the first promotional video begins with the phrase "[[Music/ManWithAMission Raise your flag]]", in the game where ''Iron Blooded Orphans'' makes its series debut.
* SharedUniverse: While the original characters live in their own isolated world (later dubbed "11th World"), the licensed cast are divided as such:
** "World 1" consists of the casts of ''Devilman'', ''Steel Jeeg'', ''Mazinkaiser'', ''Combattler'', and ''Dunbine'' (later dubbed "1st World"). ''New Story'' is also listed here, but they actually come from one of the two Byston Wells, which is referred as "Shion's Byston Well".
** "World 2" features the casts of ''Voltes'', ''Zeta Gundam'', ''Char's Counterattack'', ''Gundam Unicorn'', ''Getter Robo Armageddon'', ''[=GaoGaiGar=]'', ''Betterman'', and ''Rebuild of Evangelion'' (later dubbed "2nd World").
** "World 3", despite the name, is actually two separate worlds, one consisting of the ''Full Metal Panic'' and ''Gundam SEED'' casts (later dubbed "3rd World"), and another featuring ''Gundam 00'' and ''Code Geass'' (later dubbed "4th World").
** "World 4" has the casts of ''Votoms'', ''Layzner'', ''Valvrave'', and ''Iron-Blooded Orphans'' (later dubbed "5th World"). ''Zegapain'', however, is its own separate universe (later dubbed "6th World"), despite being grouped in with these four.
** "World 5" is another case of two separate worlds being grouped together: on one side is ''Grendizer'', ''Daitarn'', and ''Aldnoah'' (later dubbed "7th World"); on the other is ''Endless Waltz'' and ''The Prince of Darkness'' (later dubbed "8th World").
** "World 6" features the cast of ''Jushin Liger'', ''Wataru'', ''Granzort'', ''Raideen'', and ''Kuromukuro'' (later dubbed "9th World"). However, like World 4, ''Daltanious'' and ''Kotetsushin Jeeg'' have their own separate universe from them (later dubbed "10th World").
* SparedByTheAdaptation:
** Despite the Gryps Conflict having occurred off-screen, Four Murasame is alive and well, fighting alongside Kamille Bidan in her Psyco Gundam for Londo Bell. Likewise, Jerid is still around alongside some TheRemnant of the Titans. Haman is also mentioned to still be alive by the timeframe of ''Char's Counterattack''.
** [[spoiler:Chan Agi does not sortie in the Re-GZ, thus she is spared getting killed at Hathaway's grief-stricken hands. Since Chan doesn't sortie, Quess doesn't die at her hands, but instead is shot down by an Invader, and it later turns out she survived the destruction of her machine. Amuro and Char both live through the Axis Shock too, through Char takes longer to return.]]
** The game takes pleasure in making sure that [[spoiler:Creator/HoukoKuwashima characters avert the cases that would make her being the ChronicallyKilledActor. [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEED Natarle Badriguel]] is saved from her canon death. Guy, Jeeg and Devilman arrive to rescue her aboard Dominion, with Guy and Jeeg giving a massive TheReasonYouSuckSpeech to Azrael (also doubling as an ActorAllusion between Guy and Azrael, two roles on the opposing spectrums of morality done by [[Creator/NobuyukiHiyama the same person]]), and then Devilman personally kills him off. Shortly after, Flay Allster is saved from her canon death when Setsuna busted out Trans-Am solely to cover Flay's shuttle from Creuset's attack, finally reuniting with her old friends and apologizing for being an unreasonable bitch previously.]]
** All of [[spoiler:the victims of [[Manga/{{Devilman}} Jinmen]] (including Sachiko) were spared of being permanently killed along with the demon. Dido combined his blood with the Getter Ray from Shin Getter Robo in order to regenerate everyone and they're sent to the sick bay for further recovery, ''much'' to the relief of Akira/Devilman.]]
** [[spoiler:[[Anime/MobileSuitGundamUnicorn Marida]] gets to live thanks to Four shielding her from Riddhe's attack.]]
** [[spoiler:[[Anime/AuraBattlerDunbine Todd and Garalia]] both escape with their lifes from the final battle of their series. Rimul is also saved from being killed by her mother, thanks to Rabaan's intervention. And needless to say, all the heroes come out of the finale alive and well, since otherwise they would not be able to take part in the plot of the remaining titles.]]
* TheStrategist: Besides keeping her role from her home series, [[Anime/RebuildOfEvangelion Misato]] basically becomes the main strategist for the Divine Doers through the game. While there are other characters that play similar roles, circumstances usually lead to them only being present temporarily before having to leave the main group, while Misato is a constant presence. She later takes [[Anime/CodeGeassAkitoTheExiled Leila]] under her wing and becomes her mentor, making the girl her NumberTwo in strategic matters.
* ThemeSongPowerup: [[Music/JAMProject Dimension Driver]] plays during the final stage of Chapter 1, during the [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamCharsCounterattack final fight against Char at Axis.]]
* TrappedInAnotherWorld: The plot of ''DD'' features characters getting sent whisked away to other worlds, forcing them to try and find a way home alongside others in the same situation.
* TheUnfought:
** Unlike in their home series, [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamIronBloodedOrphans Naze Turbine and his women]] are never fought in the game, and their fight is interrupted by [[Anime/BlueCometSPTLayzner Gosterro and his SPT troops]] who stealing in their place instead.
** Curiously enough, while the [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam00 Alvatore]] is fought as a boss like usual, the Alvaron is dealt with in a cutscene.
** [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEEDDestiny Sato]] never got a chance to fight against Athrun and Shinn or Divine Doers, as he and his troops died when their mobile suit [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEED GINN]] exploded due to the heat during Junius 7 colony drop.
* TheUnintelligible: VideoGame/PacMan speaks with just his retro sound effect ("Wakawakawakawakawakawaka"). However, the dialogue box translates his sound effect in brackets.
* VillainProtagonist: Shinn Asuka for a brief battle in his debut chapter. He attacks Kira and the Archangel completely unprovoked, because he hates them for their association with Orb and failing to protect his family. In spite of the fact Kira is the one acting in self-defense, the player controls Shinn for the battle.
* VillainTeamUp:
** '''World 1''': [[Manga/{{Devilman}} The Demons]] and the [[Anime/KotetsuJeeg Jamatai Kingdom]] decide to work together since they both want to reclaim Earth from humans. Meanwhile, [[Anime/{{Mazinkaiser}} Dr. Hell]] convinces [[Anime/CombattlerV Garuda]] that they have a better chance to take over the planet by working together. He later also recruits [[Anime/AuraBattlerDunbine Jeryl, Allen, and Fei]], but fails to do the same to Todd and The Black Knight, who both decide to go solo. [[spoiler:After Dr. Hell is defeated, Himika resurrects Baron Ashura, who joins her side... until they backstab her by helping the Divine Doers defeat the Jamatai Kingdom, because Himika had a hand in Dr. Hell's defeat.]]
** '''World 2''': While they initially acted independently, [[Manga/GetterRobo Cohen and Stinger]] lend a hand to [[Anime/GaoGaiGar Pasder's group]] during their final battle with the heroes.
** '''World 3''': In one world, [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEED Rau Le Creuset]] hires [[Literature/FullMetalPanic Gauron]] for several missions. [[spoiler:Leonard Testarossa is shown to make business with Azrael (and later his successor, Djibril), while also making contact with [[Manga/GetterRobo Professor Saotome]] after the latter jumped worlds, explaining some "convenient" attacks by Invaders.]] The other world, meanwhile, takes a page from ''[[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsZ Z2's]]'' book and has the three main power blocks from ''[[Anime/MobileSuitGundam00 Gundam 00]]'' make an alliance with the major powers from ''[[Anime/CodeGeass Code Geass]]'' (but without actually fusing together into a single entity). So we have the Holy Britannian Empire as allies of the Union, and the Chinese Federation working together with the HRL. The United Republic of Europia is also allied with the AEU, but it should be noted that the ''heroes'' of ''Anime/CodeGeassAkitoTheExiled'' are part of this faction. After the second season of both titles begins, Britannia starts supporting the A-Laws.
** '''World 5''': [[Anime/AldnoahZERO Saazbaum]] is secretly working with the [[Anime/{{Daitarn 3}} Meganoids]], though most Martians aren't aware of that.
** '''World 6''': The [[Anime/MadoKingGranzort Jadou Clan]] has an alliance with [[Anime/MashinHeroWataruSeries Doakdar]], while the [[Anime/JushinLiger Drago Empire]] works together with the [[Anime/{{Raideen}} Demon Empire]]. The two groups are connected when Shaman makes an alliance with Ryu Dolk and Sharkin.
** '''Cross Worlds''': [[spoiler:The Discord Diffusers, a group consisting of villains from across the different worlds that were mysteriously brought back from the dead: Azrael, Gauron, Zuhl, Doll Army, Jeryll and Garuda, the latter having forgotten his change of heart before his death.]] Unrelated to that, [[spoiler:the Amaso from ''Anime/KotetsuJeeg'' makes contact with his own counterpart from ''Kotetsushin Jeeg'' after jumping worlds and starts working with the other version of the Jamatai Kingdom.]]
