Context Trivia / Reno911

Go To

* ActingForTwo: The deputies also played perps and witnesses, pixelating their faces to obscure their identities.
* ChannelHop: From Comedy Central (2003-2009) to the short-lived Quibi (2020) to Roku (2022). Additionally, the "The Hunt for Q Anon" was released through Paramount+.
* KeepCirculatingTheTapes: The Quibi season was completely unavailable anywhere for several months after the service died a quick death. It eventually arrived on The Roku Channel in 2021, which will also carry future seasons.
* ThrowItIn: Terry escaping the station on a helicopter in the second-season finale happened because the show films in an actual police station and a helicopter just happened to be taking off when they went out to film the escape.
* VoiceOnlyCameo: In "Fastest Criminal In Reno," the deputies try to nab Fast Eddie, a legendary local crook who always manages to outrace them and is never shown onscreen (only in his car). At the end, Fast Eddie calls the Sheriff's Department to tell them he admires their tenacity and gives them a jukebox as a present; his voice is provided by Creator/JeffFoxworthy.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** Originally, this was supposed to be on FOX, but FOX rejected it, as they didn't think it was funny and people would confuse it with ''COPS'' (which isn't a comedy -- at least, not an intentional one).
** A second movie, where everybody gets stuck on a deserted island with a serial killer on the loose (also showing flashbacks of the Reno squad's beginnings), was written as a treatment but the middling performance of the movie in theaters led to it not getting produced. The treatment can be read in Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon's book ''Writing Movies for Fun and Profit''.
* YouLookFamiliar:
** Besides playing the deputies, the main cast members frequently play perps, with their faces blurred or obscured in some other way.
** Creator/PattonOswalt has played three different characters. Paul Rudd and the comedy troupe Stella have played two characters.
** Mary Birdsong played a masseuse in one Season 2 episode, then became a regular castmember as Deputy Kimball one season later.
** Cathy Shim played six different characters in seven guest appearances, and played still another character in TheMovie.
** Every member of ''Series/TheState'' appeared in the show, either as a regular cast member or in a cameo.
** Toby Huss, who usually plays Big Mike, also appears as a Civil War reenactor in "President Bush's Motorcade" and as a creepy motel clerk in Reno 911: Miami.
** Ken Marino has played three different characters - one perp and two different cops.
** Nat Faxon who plays the milk shake man is also a head shop clerk/undercover DEA agent in season 1's "Burning Man Festival".
