* AcclaimedFlop: ''Paper Jam'' got decent reviews and fan reception, if fairly weak compared to previous ''Mario & Luigi'' games. However, the game underperformed commercially, as it ended up selling just a 1 million units. ''Dream Team'', by comparison, sold two and a half times this amount, with 2.70 milion copies sold, and ''Bowser's Inside Story'', the best-selling ''Mario'' RPG, sold over four times more than ''Paper Jam''.
* KidsMealToy: From April 19 to June 30, 2016, Sonic Drive-In sold a set of five toys in their Wacky Packs. These consisted of Mario, King Goomba, the Power-up Box, the Triple Bros. Attack, and the Build-a-Peach & Mario Sticker Book.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** Running was originally going to be activated by pressing the A, B and Y Buttons in rhythm. This was scrapped for being too cumbersome.
** Paper Luigi was supposed to be a playable character, but the developers didn't include him, as they thought having to control 4 buttons when commanding 4 brothers would be too frustrating to the players. (Partners in Time did have something like this, but the babies were sometimes controlled separately from Mario and Luigi and they spend most of the game being carried by their adult selves, with Mario and Luigi being usually in control of the players, though all four have their own buttons, which are required to use in battles.)
