* ActingForTwo:
** As many of the voice actors had more than one role, there are a few instances of this, such as with Valanice and Ceres.
** Lampshaded in the credits: “THREE-HEADED PLANT: Roger Jackson, Roger Jackson and Roger Jackson. Wow!”
* ChristmasRushed: The biggest reason the earliest versions were riddled with [[GameBreakingBug game breaking bugs]], due to a lack of time for beta testing, which resulted in many patches and [[UpdatedReRelease new editions]] being released over the following year.
* DummiedOut: Many examples:
** An large amount of animated sprites went unused, especially those showing Valanice and Rosella performing various actions from every possible angle. Only a small portion of these were utilised.
** Numerous lines of recorded dialogue went unused. Of particular note are several exchanges with Ricardo, offering items which cannot be brought into the desert, and Rosella’s dialogue with Lord Attis (the two never meet in the final release).
** At one point during development, the game was going to feature optional subtitles. Though disabled in the final release, an incomplete version remains in the code, and can be viewed through ''MediaNotes/ScummVM''.
* FollowTheLeader: Roberta Williams was inspired by ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfKyrandia'' to implement a single-button interface for this instalment.
* TheOtherDarrin:
** In the previous game, both Valanice and Rosella were voiced by Sheryl Bernstein. Here, they’re played by Carol Bach-y-Rita and Maureen [=McVerry=], respectively.
** King Graham's unused dialogue mentioned below is voiced by Danny Delk instead of Creator/JoshMandel. It's unknown as to why Delk was used instead of Mandel, as he hadn't left Sierra at this point. This has led to speculation that Delk was merely a placeholder until Mandel could record the line, which ultimately never happened.
* HeAlsoDid: Does the animation style of Rosella and Valanice in the intro look familiar? That's because the game's opening was done by Animation Magic, the Russian studio that animated ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaCDiGames Link: The Faces of Evil]]'', ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaCDiGames Zelda: Wand of Gamelon]]'', and ''VideoGame/IMMeen''.
* MyRealDaddy: Just like ''King's Quest VI'', this game wasn't fully designed by Roberta Williams, but it was co-designed by her and Lorelei Shannon. This was due to the fact that Roberta was busy working on ''VideoGame/{{Phantasmagoria}}'' at the same time as ''King's Quest VII''.
** It was because of this collaboration that the game ended up with two protagonists. Williams had received many letters requesting Princess Rosella return as a playable character, while Shannon thought Queen Valanice was overdue for a starring role. As Williams agreed with Shannon’s assessment, they decided to feature both women as leads.
* NonSingingVoice: Maureen [=McVerry=] provides the speaking voice for Rosella, but the character's "Land Beyond Dreams" musical number is performed by Debbie Seibert.
** Curiously, [=McVerry=] is a celebrated cabaret singer and undoubtedly could’ve handled the song, but Seibert was the wife of longtime Sierra employee Mark Seibert and served as ''Creator/{{Sierra}}’s'' in-house lead female singer (and is admittedly a fine vocalist herself).
* UnderageCasting: Carol Bach y Rita (Valanice) was only in her early 30s at the time of production, and is around seven years younger than the actress who voiced Rosella, Maureen [=McVerry=].
* UrbanLegendOfZelda: Most fans will swear up and down that the desert wanderer can kill you, but there's been no proof of this other than his thinly veiled threat. (As well, no evidence exists in the resource files suggesting this is possible.)
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** Two other subtitles considered were ''What’s Lava Got To Do With It?'' and ''Rosella Vs. The Volcano''.
** The opening sequence was originally going to be implemented through the game’s engine, but later became a pre-rendered movie.
** Ken Williams approached Creator/{{Pixar}} about animating the opening cinematic and actually spoke with Steve Jobs on the phone. As ''WesternAnimation/ToyStory1'' was in production at the time, however, they didn’t have the time or interest to focus on a computer game.
** An additional verse was composed for “Land Beyond Dreams” which was cut, though the sequence was storyboarded and an instrumental version can be heard in the MIDI file.
** Some releases feature an early version of the chapter select screen in its data, showing 7 chapters instead of 6, and an option to turn hot spot highlighting on and off. There were also additional mouse icons for “look” and “talk”, etc., indicating the game wasn’t initially planned to be single-button controlled.
** Despite the game being the only one in the series not to feature Graham, [[https://tcrf.net/images/b/b6/Kq7-111-graham.ogg poking around in the game's audio files]] reveals he was supposed to appear and he's still listed in the credits. While there was no official confirmation, it was most likely cut to keep the game on one CD.
** Several areas were designed to showcase more horizontal scrolling but were eventually split into two separate screens. These include the Bountiful Woods merging with the Were Woods (which can be seen in the game’s demo), and the exterior of Dr. Cadaver’s house transitioning to Count Tsepish’s tomb (a complete version of which is buried within the data for some versions).
** The desert temple was first painted smaller, revealing it to be a pyramid. It had to be enlarged due to scaling issues with Valanice’s sprite entering the door, thus making its pyramid status far less visible. Similar enlargements also had to be made to several doors in Falderal for the same reason.
** A second encounter with the giant scorpion was apparently intended for inclusion in Chapter 5, as sprites exist of Valanice either blasting it with the sunlit crystal or attempting to stab it with the unlit crystal. As it is, even if you don’t use the bug reducing powder in Chapter 1, the scorpion vanishes without explanation.
** More cutscenes showing Valanice and Edgar making their way to the volcano control room were planned, and some of the animations for these still exist.
** Some of the music cues ended up being used in different locations than initially planned. For instance, the "Mother Oak" song heard when meeting Lord Attis as a stag was composed for the introduction, when it was going to be more interactive.
** One early mock-up showed Valanice wearing the same dress, but colored pink instead of green. Possibly changed due to engine issues or because pink became Malicia’s signature color.
