* CreatorKiller: The film's mixed reception largely killed Yoshimitsu Banno's directing career, and he was relegated to working on TV documentaries for the rest of his career. It also ended his involvement with the Godzilla franchise for decades, until he returned to become an executive producer in ''Film/Godzilla2014'', before passing away in 2017.
* GodNeverSaidThat:
** For a long time, it has been rumored that due to the very psychedelic nature of this film, [[WordOfGod Tomoyuki Tanaka (The producer of every Godzilla and Tokusatsu film until 1997)]], [[ExecutiveVeto made a promise that Banno would NEVER direct another Godzilla film for the rest of his life]]. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1dL7lA7bss In this interview however (at the 10:16 mark)]], Banno specified that while Tanaka's words weren't ''that'' harsh, he did mention that [[CreatorBacklash Tanaka didn't like how Godzilla's character was changed]] [[LighterAndSofter to appeal to children]]. Additionally, Godzilla's infamous flying scene was ''not'' hated by Tanaka at all, and was even approved by Tanaka's agent. Banno even took liberties in case Tanaka didn't like it.
** Banno also addressed the idea of a sequel to the film in which Godzilla would have fought a 2nd Hedorah that appears in Africa. Banno later revealed that that story was just a fling and that he had intended to make both another Godzilla Film (rumored to be a scrapped idea featuring a Mutant Starfish) and a Hedorah spin-off that was independent from the Godzilla series.
* KeepCirculatingTheTapes: For a while, the only DVD release for this movie from Sony Entertainment was out of print. Fortunately, to coincide with the release of [[Film/{{Godzilla2014}} the 2014 remake of the original]] ''[[Film/{{Godzilla2014}} Gojira]]'', Kraken Releasing have re-released ''Hedorah'' and [[Film/EbirahHorrorOfTheDeep two]] [[Film/GodzillaVsGigan other]] Showa Godzilla movies on Blu-Ray and DVD.
** The AIP dub track has still remained unreleased on any format after VHS.
** With the announcement of the [[Creator/TheCriterionCollection Showa-Era Films box set]], the International dub has followed the same fate as well as it wasn’t included with that set due to legal reasons.
* PropRecycling: The Godzilla suit from ''Film/InvasionOfAstroMonster'' was used for the scene where Hedorah drenches Godzilla in muck. The flying Godzilla prop was the same prop used when Godzilla was held in the Xilians' energy bubble, also from ''Invasion of Astro-Monster''.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** Yoshimitsu Banno had thought ahead when writing this film, as he had already prepared a treatment for a sequel by the time of this film's release, which would have had Godzilla fight a new Hedorah - this was even alluded to at the end of the film with "''And Yet Another One?''"
** Adding more info to this film, it was aiming for a release for 1975, which would have made it one of the later films of the Godzilla Showa era instead of ''Film/{{Terror of Mechagodzilla}}, and didn't even have a real title outside of "Godzilla vs. Hedorah II". The films most noticeable aspect was that the battle wasn't supposed to be set in Japan, but in Africa, with Banno stating that "if these chaotic, dynamic countries developed a little further, it wouldn't be implausible for Hedorah to show up there". Tomoyuki Tanaka was unpleased with the product, and forced Banno out of the director's chair, thus relegating the film to quite an expansive trail of films which were meant to continue the Showa series past 1975, but never quite made the cut.
** An IMAX 3D remake of ''Godzilla vs. Hedorah'' was in its planning stages around 2004, around the time in which ''Film/GodzillaFinalWars''. The project however was too short (around 60 minutes total) and was rejected by Hollywood. However after Banno pitched uping the runtime to 2 hours, after Legendary Pictures was put on the project, the idea eventually morphed into ''Film/{{Godzilla 2014}}''!
** To coincide with the above interview, Banno has pitched a ''Hedorah 2'' idea involving Hedorah destroying all of the Earth's rainforests and thus would go up against [[GaiasVengeance a Sentient Monster composed of Algae and has big eyes]] named "''Midora''"
