* ActingForTwo: The Wizard and Rannie are both are voiced by Creator/YuriLowenthal.
* ColbertBump: The "controversy" resulting from the below-mentioned article unwittingly caused the game's popularity to go through the roof. NoSuchThingAsBadPublicity, indeed. Despite the notoriety and infamy the game has garnered in some Western countries, it sold out in Japan almost immediately upon release. While the Japanese themselves have commented on the art style, much of it was mostly [[ValuesDissonance poking fun at how big of a stir it caused outside the country]].
* CreatorDrivenSuccessor: Though sharing no continuity, the game is meant to build off the ideas in ''[[VideoGame/DungeonsAndDragons Dungeons & Dragon: Tower of Doom]]'', a game ''Dragon's Crown'' lead designer George Kamitani worked on in his youth.
* DearNegativeReader: When Kotaku's Jason Schreier [[http://kotaku.com/game-developers-really-need-to-stop-letting-teenage-boy-472724616 posted a scathing article denouncing the crazy proportions of the female characters]], lead designer George Kamitani [[https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BIgiG5FCcAEDyxK.jpg:large responded with this classy piece of artwork.]] This also overlaps with both TakeThat and ValuesDissonance, since the image is a [[TestosteronePoisoning parody]] of how Americans and some Western players like their characters in their games.
* DevelopmentGag:
** Sorceress's concept art design from back in 1998 was used, [[DependingOnTheArtist with some slight modification]], for Lima Ray the Witch.
** The original artwork for the Sorceress is of a little girl in a similar outfit. Since it took 10+ years for the game to be made, it's implied [[SheIsAllGrownUp she grew up in the interim.]]
* DevelopmentHell: The game was originally planned for the [[Platform/SegaDreamcast Dreamcast]] since ''2001'' and [[http://www.siliconera.com/2013/07/24/dragons-crown-looked-really-different-when-it-was-being-made-for-the-dreamcast/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+siliconera%2FMkOc+%28Siliconera%29 it was planned as a 3D game instead]]. Then it was announced for a Spring 2012 release, before original publisher Ignition backed out and new publisher Creator/{{Atlus}} announced it actually wouldn't be ready till late 2013. The game was finally released in the U.S. in August 2013.
* ReferencedBy: In ''Literature/GoblinSlayer'', recurring character Witch is modelled to resemble The Sorceress; similarly, side-character Amazon looks just like the same-named CharacterClass in this game. While most would assume High Elf Archer looks like The Elf, ''Goblin Slayer'' creator Kumo Kagyu states she's actually based on Sinon from ''Literature/SwordArtOnline'', specifically her appearance in "[=ALfheim=] Online".
