Context Trivia / ArthurChristmas

Go To

* AccentDepundent: Most Americans didn't get that the film was supposed to be a pun on "Father Christmas", partly because the words don't rhyme in most dialects of American English, and partly because most Americans are used to saying "Santa Claus".
* DuelingWorks: The film was released two years after Disney released ''WesternAnimation/PrepAndLanding'', a CGI short also centered around elves acting as a super-spy prep team for Santa, the only difference being that the Disney production focuses more on the elves while the Aardman film is about the Santa family dynamic. In fact, the sequel special to ''Prep & Landing'', titled ''Naughty vs. Nice'', was released only two weeks after this movie came out, making the comparison fresh on people's minds. It is likely both productions coincidentally started at around the same time and, once Disney's short came out, it was too late for ''Arthur Christmas'' to change course on its story. However, both works can also draw parallels with ''Film/TheSantaClause'', as it has the elite E.L.F.S. squad that rescues Scott Calvin with similar technology of jet packs and tinsel guns.
* EditedForSyndication: When airing on ABC Family/Freeform, Steve and Peter's lines after the lights go out at Mission Control are cut. Also, Arthur's line about his slippers not being for outdoor use, a small part of Arthur and Grandsanta's flight, and the epilogue that describes everyone's HappyEverAfter are also cut. Starz airings restores all of them.
* MissingTrailerScene: One of the trailers has a scene where Gwen wakes up at night and checks her stocking only to find nothing and looks disappointed that doesn't appear in the film.
** Another ad briefly showed some elves trying to wrap a live polar bear, outdoors, in broad daylight.
* VindicatedByCable: Despite mostly positive reviews, the film was lost in a crowded holiday season already full of family films back in 2011, making nary a blip at the US Box Office and only modest business internationally. Upon the DVD release and cable broadcasts beginning the next year, though, the film's reputation began to improve, to the point that it's begun gaining a following as a modern day holiday classic. Being available on Creator/{{Netflix}} also increased its popularity, and was in fact where a lot of people first noticed the movie.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** Creator/MichaelGiacchino wrote a score that ended up being rejected. Harry Gregson-Williams replaced him.
** According to [[http://youtu.be/zwNbMv_Pujc this PSA]] given by Elf 6409EF, Gwen has a baby brother all the way in Denmark.
** During an interview with the director Sarah Smith, they asked her why they did not put a straight forward villain and a love interest in the film, Sarah replied that there’s no need to have an "evil" villain, just an AntiHero with no “just don’t get it department”.
** They were originally going to have a villainous elf named General Antlers, whose goal was to turn the reindeer into hamburgers.
** Though Sarah forgot about the love interest question, it's possible that Steve was going to get a love interest since his name was mentioned multiple times about being the sort of "baddie" during this interview.
** Creator/RobertDeNiro and Creator/KevinSpacey were considered for Grandsanta.
* WorkingTitle: The film was originally titled ''Operation Rudolph'' when it was announced in 2007.
