* BuryYourArt: Until 2020, developer Creator/NextLevelGames did not mention this game on their website due to the backlash the game received from the ''Metroid'' fanbase.
* KeepCirculatingTheTapes: A victim of the eshop closure. Meaning, the only way to play this is a physical cartridge. Prices online are also somewhat demanding too.
* MilestoneCelebration: Technically. It was released the same month as Metroid's 30th anniversary, but Nintendo themselves never acknowledged this.
* SavedFromDevelopmentHell: Development began in 2009, but the Nintendo DS wasn't powerful enough to handle performance. The project was put on ice for a few years before it was revived to serve as a UsefulNotes/Nintendo3DS game (specifically to push the New Nintendo 3DS revision).
* ScheduleSlip: Internally, the game was intended to release in late 2014/early 2015, to act as a launch title for the New Nintendo 3DS (though the game was not exclusive to that version of the system). However, it was delayed into the following year, releasing in August 2016.
* SequelGap: The first ''Franchise/{{Metroid}}'' game to come out since ''VideoGame/MetroidOtherM'' 6 years before, and the first in the ''Prime'' line since ''VideoGame/MetroidPrime3Corruption'' 9 years before.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: The final version of ''Federation Force'' actually began as a separate ''Metroid'' project [[https://youtu.be/ZQ8xa4drduQ?t=514 known as Project Valkyrie]], which was a standalone four-person [=PvP=] title that, prior to its {{retool}}ing into ''Federation Force'', was targeting the UsefulNotes/WiiU.
