* ActingForTwo:
** Joey and Private are both voiced by James Patrick Stuart. They have some dialogue together in "Kanga Management".
** Creator/JohnDiMaggio also voices Burt the elephant. However, Rico and Burt have rarely been in scenes together, and have never conversed.
** In the Latin American dub, both Mort and Private are voiced by José Antonio Macías.
** Also in the Latin American dub, Mario Filio voices King Julien, and both Bada and Bing. And all of them with different voices.
** Kowalski and the Red Squirrel - Lampshaded when Kowalski does a perfect impression of The Red Squirrel in "Our Man In Grrfurjiclestan".
* TheCastShowoff:
** Kowalski's "Graveyard Eight" song lets Creator/JeffBennett show off his singing ability.
** "The Return of the Revenge of Dr Blowhole" seems made to allow the cast to show off. Kowalski even gets a duet with [[Creator/NeilPatrickHarris Dr. Blowhole]]. Blowhole even gets two songs to himself afterwards.
* CelebrityVoiceActor:
** Besides Creator/AndyRichter reprising his role as Mort, the likes of Creator/NeilPatrickHarris, Creator/NestorCarbonell, Creator/LarryMiller, Creator/WayneKnight, Creator/RichardKind, Creator/KristenSchaal, Creator/PeterCapaldi and Creator/ConanOBrien make guest appearances.
** And that's on top of guest appearances by actors from Creator/{{Nickelodeon}} sitcoms. Those included the likes of Music/VictoriaJustice, Creator/JennetteMcCurdy, Creator/NathanKress, Creator/JerryTrainor, and Creator/CiaraBravo. Creator/ElizabethGillies also sung a Franchise/JamesBond inspired song for one episode.
* CrossDressingVoices: Creator/TaraStrong voiced Eggy and at least one one-shot boy character. Of course, anyone familiar with more of her work would know [[WesternAnimation/TheFairlyOddParents this]] [[WesternAnimation/{{Ben10}} isn't]] [[WesternAnimation/FostersHomeForImaginaryFriends unusual]] [[WesternAnimation/{{Rugrats}} for]] [[WesternAnimation/AllGrownUp her.]]
* TheDanza: Creator/FredStoller as Fred the Squirrel.
* EarlyBirdRelease: A few episodes were released to [=DVD=] before airing on TV.
** "Popcorn Panic" was released as apart of a 2 episode bonus disc packed with WesternAnimation/MadagascarEscape2Africa 3 months before airing.
** "Dr. Blowhole’s Revenge" was released on “Operation [=DVD=] Premiere” a mere 6 days before airing.
** "Command Crisis" and "Truth Ache" were released on “Operation [=DVD=] Premiere” 9 months before airing.
** "The Helmet" was released on “Happy King Julien Day” 32 days before airing.
** "The Big Squeeze" was released on “New to the Zoo” 39 days before airing.
** "Driven to the Brink" was released on “I Was a Penguin Zombie” 18 days before airing.
* FakeBrit: Private's VA, James Patrick Stuart, is from California and is only half-British. [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]] during "Hard Boiled Eggy" when Skipper notes Eggy picked up "an adorably fake British accent" from Private.
** Mason's VA is American, and according to Private, Mason himself is secretly Canadian.
* KidsMealToy: UsefulNotes/McDonalds sold a set of eight figures of the Penguins in 2010, one of which was a periscope. Some of the toys featured in this promotion were re-issued in 2014 as a tie-in with the ''WesternAnimation/PenguinsOfMadagascar'' spin-off film.
* TheOriginalDarrin: In the French dub, Creator/BorisRehlinger reprises his role as King Julien from the first movie, having been replaced by Michaël Youn in the sequels.
* TheOtherDarrin: Among the eight voiced characters common to the films and the TV series (as mentioned, Phil doesn't talk), four have the same voice actors across the board: Tom [=McGrath=] (Skipper), Creator/JohnDiMaggio (Rico), Andy Richter (Mort) and Conrad Vernon (Mason).
** [=DreamWorks=] staff members Chris Miller (Kowalski) and Christopher Knights (Private) were respectively replaced by Creator/JeffBennett and James Patrick Stuart.
** Creator/DannyJacobs replaced Creator/SachaBaronCohen as King Julien.
** Creator/KevinMichaelRichardson replaced Creator/CedricTheEntertainer as Maurice
** In an interesting case of both this and RoleReprise, Alex's appearance in the "Return Of The Revenge Of Dr. Blowhole" movie has Creator/WallyWingert reprise his role from the first Madagascar video game, replacing his movie actor Creator/BenStiller.
* RoleReprise:
** As stated above, Tom [=McGrath=], John [=DiMaggio=], Andy Richter, and Conrad Vernon all return to voice Skipper, Rico, Mort, and Mason.
** Alex's appearance in the "Return Of The Revenge Of Dr. Blowhole" movie has Creator/WallyWingert reprise his role from the first ''VideoGame/{{Madagascar}}'' video game. In the Latin American Dub he's voiced by his voice actor from the movies, Creator/RicardoTejedo.
* ScrewedByTheNetwork: The show's cancellation was the result of Nickelodeon heads wanting to invest more in original programming rather than licensed material. ''WesternAnimation/MonstersVsAliens'' and ''WesternAnimation/KungFuPandaLegendsOfAwesomeness'' (also [=DreamWorks=]-based) suffered a similar fate.
* SimilarlyNamedWorks: ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'' and ''WesternAnimation/PhineasAndFerb'' have episodes titled "It's About Time"; all three episodes deal with time travel in a sense.
