* ActorAllusion:
** A villain played by Creator/NeilPatrickHarris causes the cast to start singing against their will? [[WesternAnimation/BatmanTheBraveAndTheBold Where have we seen that before?]]
** He sings "Brand New Plan", which contains several shout outs to [[WebVideo/DoctorHorriblesSingAlongBlog another]] VillainSong Creator/NeilPatrickHarris has sung.
** Creator/BenedictCumberbatch's character in TheMovie leads the North Wind. He was [[Series/{{Sherlock}} previously associated with]] [[Recap/SherlockS03E03HisLastVow the East Wind]].
** Creator/JennetteMcCurdy, who voices the badger Becky, being part of a somewhat over the top [[Series/ICarly girl duo]] who get up to crazy antics.
** Kendall Schmidt, Carlos [=PenaVega=], James Maslow, and Logan Henderson play 4 beavers who help the penguins, who tell them that they "Gotta Rush, Big Time."
* CastingGag: When the celebrity voice actors were replaced in the transition from the film to the series, Creator/SachaBaronCohen (Julien's voice actor in the movies) was replaced by Danny Jacobs. Jacobs previously played an impersonation of Cohen's ''Film/{{Borat}}'' character in ''Film/EpicMovie''.
* CrossDressingVoices: Creator/TaraStrong voiced Eggy and at least one one-shot boy character. Of course, anyone familiar with more of her work would know [[WesternAnimation/TheFairlyOddParents this]] [[WesternAnimation/{{Ben10}} isn't]] [[WesternAnimation/FostersHomeForImaginaryFriends unusual]] [[WesternAnimation/{{Rugrats}} for]] [[WesternAnimation/AllGrownUp her.]]
* TheDanza: Fred Stoller as Fred the Squirrel.
* FakeBrit: Private's VA, James Patrick Stuart, is from California and is only half-British. {{Lampshaded}} during "Hard Boiled Eggy" when Skipper notes Eggy picked up "an adorably fake British accent" from Private.
** Mason's VA is American, and according to Private, Mason himself is secretly Canadian.
* MissingEpisode: Several episodes appeared on DVD and/or Nickelodeon's website well before they made it to air. The last two episodes to be considered "missing" were "Truth Ache" and "Command Crisis", which appeared on the show's first DVD compilation but didn't air until November 2010.
* TheOtherDarrin: Among the eight voiced characters common to the films and the TV series (as mentioned, Phil doesn't talk), four have the same voice actors across the board: Tom [=McGrath=] (Skipper), Creator/JohnDiMaggio (Rico), Andy Richter (Mort) and Conrad Vernon (Mason).
** [=DreamWorks=] staff members Chris Miller (Kowalski) and Chris Knights (Private) were respectively replaced by Creator/JeffBennett and James Patrick Stuart
*** In an interesting case, many fans commented that they considered Jeff Bennett to suit Kowalski's egotistical nerdiness ''better'' than Miller, and wished that he'd been brought back in for the Penguins movie.
** Creator/KevinMichaelRichardson took over Maurice's role from Cedric the Entertainer
** Danny Jacobs replaced Sacha Baron Cohen as King Julien.
** In an interesting case of both this and Role Reprisal, Alex's appearance in the "Return Of The Revenge Of Dr. Blowhole" movie has Wally Wingert reprise his role from the first Madagascar video game, replacing his movie actor Ben Stiller.
* RoleReprisal:
** Tom McGrath, John DiMaggio, Andy Richter, and Conrad Vernon return to voicing Skipper, Rico, Mort, and Mason.
** Alex's appearance in the "Return Of The Revenge Of Dr. Blowhole" movie has Wally Wingert reprise his role from the first Madagascar video game.
* ScrewedByTheNetwork: The show's cancellation was the result of Nickelodeon heads wanting to invest more in original programming rather than licensed material. ''WesternAnimation/MonstersVsAliens'' and ''WesternAnimation/KungFuPandaLegendsOfAwesomeness'' (also [=DreamWorks=]-based) suffered a similar fate.
* TalkingToHimself:
** Joey and Private are both voiced by James Patrick Stuart. They have some dialogue together in "Kanga Management".
** Creator/JohnDiMaggio also voices Burt the elephant. However, Rico and Burt have rarely been in scenes together, and have never conversed.
** Private and Mort in the Latin American dub.
** Kowalski and the Red Squirrel - Lampshaded when Kowalski does a perfect impression of The Red Squirrel in "Our Man In Grrfurjiclestan".
* [[NamesTheSame Title's the Same]]: ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'' and ''WesternAnimation/PhineasAndFerb'' have episodes titled "It's About Time"; all three episodes deal with time travel in a sense.
* TropeNamer:
** NoseNuggets
