Benji said that the band in the mid noughties was in a dire situation between releasing a new album or quit making music althogether, and repeating ''The Young and the Hopeless'' formula without trying something new would mean giving up. Joel even went as far as claiming the fourth album as his personal favorite, where he and his bandmates matured and worked cohesively as musicians.
