'''As a moments page, all spoilers are unmarked!'''
* The scene where Jerome burns himself to death, and his silver medal turns gold, and the key scenes where Vincent triumphs against the odds. It's a hugely bittersweet ending, combined with a few heartrending moments.
** What makes it worse is the scene before, where Eugene/Jerome shows Vincent/Jerome all the genetic evidence he's been collecting. Vincent doesn't know why he did all this for him, and he doesn't know that Eugene is planning to kill himself, but he still thanks him.
--->'''Eugene:''' I got the better end of the deal. I only lent you my body. You lent me your dream.
* Anton tries to push the investigation off of Vincent from the start--until presented with a logical motive, at which point he becomes more invested in finding him, even becoming more emotional about it to the point of demanding which way he went and shouting his name down an alley. Given how overcome with relief he is upon learning Vincent had nothing to do with it, his more emotive behaviour comes across as panicking at the thought that his brother might have killed someone, and/or desperately trying to find him to prove his innocence. Since it's clear that, even though it's through the lens of their societal norms, Anton does care about Vincent and view him as family, one can only image the horror he was feeling to realise that perhaps his brother did have a motive and could be the killer.
* We never know if Vincent and Anton ever reconcile after his return to Earth. They never had a good relationship even when they were a family, and Vincent's actions in the film clearly make Anton very angry. We don't see the discussion or aftermath of the second swim. We only know that Anton relented. Vincent wins Eugene's respect, so much so he commits suicide so Vincent can live on in his name. He wins Irene and her heart as well, Lamar as well, despite his 'invalid' status and everything he did. But Anton? If these people who are not blood will do the things they did for Vincent, maybe there is hope for Anton as well?
** Anton mentions to Vincent that their parents died both thinking they had outlived him. Sad in itself to outlive a child, but it also means that they probably hadn't seen Vincent in years.
** In a blend of sad and hopeful, there's underlying evidence that Anton genuinely cares for Vincent, despite the fact that he's been raised to believe in and follow the messed up society they live in—he never outs Vincent to anyone, the way he keeps redirection the investigation back to the crime scene seems almost like he's desperately trying to find an alternative lead that isn't his brother, he's so relieved at learning his brother wasn't involved ''at all'' that he carelessly abandons genetic material, a tissue he was dabbing at his face with (also indicating he was sweating in panic), on a windowsill. Even when he confronts Vincent, he calls him his brother, doesn't rise to his challenge of 'you must be disappointed I'm not a murderer,' and while he thinks that Vincent has committed fraud, his reaction is 'you're in trouble, I can get you out of here' rather than arresting him or demanding he turn himself in, an act which would likely put his own career and reputation at least at risk. During their swim, he calls out to Vincent for both of them to turn back for safety, rather than just going on his own. Anton may not be a particularly warm person, or have the greatest relationship with his brother, and clearly has been completely indoctrinated into the laws of their society—but he cares enough to want to look out for Vincent, even to the point of risking himself. While it's sad that the views of the society have twisted their relationship so much, there is absolutely groundwork for them to reconcile, especially if one interprets the swim as Vincent proving to Anton that he can take care of himself and is not in trouble.
** In addition, Vincent is actually the more aggressive one in their final confrontation--asking if they were 'ever brothers' and accusing Anton of being disappointed he didn't kill anyone, which is actually quite heartbreaking considering how hard Anton was actually trying to push the investigation away from Vincent and how relieved he was to confirm his brother had nothing to do with it. And while Vincent's frustrations are understandable, as mentioned above, Anton comes across as more trying to protect him than wanting arrest him or make him turn himself in. Considering that, what anger Anton does display comes across as more AngerBornofWorry than an attempt to belittle his brother. If anything, it almost seems like Anton cares more than Vincent does.
