* When it's revealed that Punpun's father never sent him any letters after leaving and they were actually written by his mother.
* Mrs. Onodera's death from cancer. While on her deathbed, she realizes what an awful parent she was and apologizes to Punpun, telling him that deep down she really loved him. What makes this especially heartbreaking is that it was already too late, as Punpun can't bring himself to forgive his mother.
* While talking with Sachi, Papa Punyama recalls how Punpun used to be, and also the time when his son and his childhood friend Harumi went to look for falling stars, which ended with Harumi getting hit by a motorcycle. Poignant not just because it's interspersed with scenes of Punpun attacking the guy from the convenience store that criticized Sachi's manga, but because you get to see how much Punyama regrets his failures as a parent.
* Chapter 138 concludes with Aiko kissing Punpun before recalling aloud the shooting stars and beautiful night sky she and Punpun saw that night and they both fall asleep, exhausted. In chapter 139, Punpun discovers Aiko's lifeless body hanging from a rope later and as he laments the choices he's made, carries her on his back, wondering what kind of life they could've had together had they grown up the normal way.
* Sachi finding Punpun after his suicide attempt.
* Sachi walking out of Punpun's hospital room, thinking that once he gets better everything will be okay again. Then the police show up...
* This exchange:
-->"Who are you?"
-->"I am your friend."
* Chapter 145. All of it. It simply shows a dream of Punpun, on a date with Aiko at an amusement as he talks to her on what his current life is. Punpun says that he resigns himself to a mediocre life that he is satisfied with, telling Aiko it would be fine if he just simply vanished from everyone's memories. Reminiscing over the childhood moments they experienced, Punpun tells Aiko that his memory of her is fading too, wondering if he remembers her voice and face correctly which implies nobody may be left to remember her eventually. Punpun could apologize for all the suffering he brought to her, telling her that tanabata will always be cloudy forever before he wakes up.
