| Kumiko Kōda (born November 13, 1982), better known as Koda Kumi, is a Japanese pop singer-songwriter from Kyoto, Japan who is known in the west for singing the Japanese language theme songs of VideoGame/FinalFantasyX2. In her home country, she started out as a standard pop singer and eventually, worked her way to sex symbol status. For a more straightforward way to put it, she could be considered a Japanese counterpart of Music/BritneySpears, Music/ChristinaAguilera, or Music/{{Rihanna}}. |
| |
| Since her debut she has released nearly fifty singles and nine studio albums. Not to mention her collaborations with other artists, remixes, and Greatest Hits albums. |
| |
| In addition to her work in the music industry, she's also made a strong influence on Japanese fashion trends, resulting in the ero-kawaii style, named after what she called her pop star image. Her younger sister Misono is also a pop singer. |
| |
| In December 2011, she announced her engagement to BACK-ON lead singer Kenji, and shortly after the couple announced they were expecting their first child together. They married that same month and welcomed a son in July 2012. Koda Kumi has since returned to work, releasing a couple of singles and announcing a much awaited tour by her fans worldwide. |

| * ''Best: Third Universe'' (2010), [[OverlyLongGag her third greatest hits album]], which was a tie-in with... |
| * ''Universe'' (2010) |

| * ''[[GratuitousFrench Dejavu]]'' (2011) |

| * ''Japonesque'' (2012) |

| |
| !! Tropes that apply to Koda Kumi and her music: |
| |
| * AcCENTUponTheWrongSylLABle: Well... she's Japanese. |
| * AutoTune: Varying amounts. "Pink Spider" is ''drowned'' in it, which is one of the reasons it was [[FlameWar not very well received]] among hide fans. |
| * AwardBaitSong: '''All''' of her {{Power Ballad}}s. |
| * BoastfulRap |
| * CoverAlbum: Eternity: Love & Songs and Color the Cover. |
| * CoverVersion: [[Music/HidetoMatsumoto "Pink Spider."]] Its reception among hide fans has not been pleasant. Mostly due to the video not matching the lyrics or intent of the song, and the replacement of hide's guitar work - one of the outstanding points of the song - with some work by a DJ of ''questionable'' skill miming Music/DavidGuetta. |
| ** Fittingly, she also covered the OP of ''Anime/CuteyHoney'', which was used for the 2004 live action movie and its animated adaptation by Creator/StudioGainax. |
| * DistinctDoubleAlbum: She ''loves'' to release these: ''[=W FACE (inside)=]'' and ''[=W FACE (outside)=]'' in 2017, ''[=AND=]'' and ''[=DNA=]'' in 2018 (these two were actually released months apart of each other, but they were introduced as two halves of the same project), ''[=angeL=]'' and ''[=monsteR=]'' in 2020... |
| ** She has even had a Distinct Double ''Tour'' in 2019, having simultaneous tours revisiting her ''Black Cherry'' and ''Japonesque'' albums (though said albums weren't a DistinctDoubleAlbum, having been released ''years'' apart from each other and with other albums released between them). |
| * EvenTheGirlsWantHer: Look at ANY of her lives, or in any number of her [=PVs=] where she can be seen getting VERY friendly with other females. |
| * EroticEating: [[http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/90/Kumi-_Gossip_Candy_(CD_Only).jpg THIS]]. |
| * {{Fanservice}}: She's given lap dances and serenades to audience members brought up on stage. Also, this is pretty much what she's famous for. |
| ** MsFanservice |
| * GirlOnGirlIsHot: Music videos for "Shake It", "But" and "Taboo" come to mind, and her live performances often involve dry humping/groping of female & male dancers. |
| * GoodBadGirl: She is a total cutie in public and interviews. Her music, videos and performances say otherwise. |
| * GratuitousEnglish |
| * GreatestHitsAlbum: As of right now, ''five'' of them. |
| * GuyOnGuyIsHot: "Ima Sugu Hoshii" features one man snaking up another, "Taboo" features her male love interest kissing a guy after he catches Kumi with girls. |
| * HotTeacher: In "Butterfly". |
| * HotterAndSexier |
| * ImpossiblyCoolClothes |
| * IntercourseWithYou: Has at least one per album anymore. Special mention goes to Ima Sugu Hoshii (lit. I Want It Right Now), which doesn't even try to convince you that it's anything else. |
| * JapanesePopMusic |
| * JapaneseRanguage: Incredibly guilty of this, especially in her cover of [[WesternAnimation/{{Aladdin}} A Whole New World]]. Coincides with GratuitousEnglish. |
| * KimonoFanservice: The cover of her latest [[http://28.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lynsc33UZu1qa0b9so2_250.jpg album]] , [[http://26.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_ly61j2Q4Tl1qg3k48o1_500.jpg JAPONESQUE]]. The "So Nice" video has this by the truckloads, too. |
| * KimonoIsTraditional: The video for "Aisho" features Kumi in a Kimono, as have many promotional photos. She also has a special feature, in which she wore a montage of Kimono. |
| * LetsDuet: Peabo Bryson, Tatsuya Ishii and Music/{{BoA|Korea}} among others. |
| * LighterAndSofter |
| * MoodWhiplash: On Black Cherry, the change from [[IntercourseWithYou Juicy]] (a smutty hip-hop song) to [[PowerBallad Candle Light]] (a piano ballad where Kumi sobs the whole time she's singing) is so jarring that you almost can't help but [[{{Narm}} laugh]]. The fact that Cherry girl, a sassy pop song, immediately follows is just icing on the cake. |
| * MotorMouth: She speaks incredibly fast. |
| * NaughtyNurseOutfit: Wears one on Love me back pv [[http://img.yaplog.jp/img/12/pc/y/u/k/yukinko-itigo/2/2429.jpg]]. |
| %%* PeacockGirl: The video for "Show Girl". |
| * PowerBallad: At least three per album. |
| * PrettyInMink: During her "Kingdom" tour she actually, JUMPED up and down, and danced around whilst singing in a gianormous fur coat. |
| ** The coat in the video for "Showgirl". |
| * SheCleansUpNicely: A theme of both "Koi no tsubomi" and "Bambi" music videos. |
| * SmokingIsGlamorous: The video for "Aisho" (Love Proof). |
| * ShowgirlSkirt: A [[FluffyFashionFeathers pink feather]] one for her "Trick" tour. |
| * StageNames: Born 神田 來未子 (Koda Kumiko) but is branded as 倖田 來未 (Koda Kumi), changing Kanji in her Family Name and shortening her Given Name. |
| * SurprisePregnancy: She announced that she was pregnant a few days after she said she was getting married to BACK-ON's Kenji03. It was ''probably'' a ShotgunWedding. |
| * {{Stripperiffic}}: The most iconic example is the "Love me back" [=PV=]. [[https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_0139_3.JPG]], in which she abuses the concept of po''liciously'' sexy, making her own version of Alexandra Stan's Mr. Saxobeat (well, sort of). |
| * ThreeMinutesOfWrithing: Her [=PVs=] or her lives, constantly. |
| * TranslatedCoverVersion: Her version of Music/KellyClarkson's Can We Go Back. |
| * WomanScorned |
