* The BFG lets loose a Gasshole Whizzpopper...for the Queen of England. She takes it in stride.
--> Queen: I think, on the whole...I prefer the bagpipes.
** In the animated version we don't actually see it, but it was apparently so loud it causes at least one car crash. Cue Sophie looking embarrassed afterward, as the Queen says the above line.
** The live action movie makes it even funnier: the Queen herself and her entire group were the ones that drank the drink that causes itThe drink has bubbles that fizz down, causing the drinker to fart so hard it launches them into the air.. The Queen still takes it in stride.
** The Queen's corgis also get in on the action; cue them sharing an OhCrap look shortly before they start scooting across the floor due to the force of their whizzpops.
** The Queen's reason for saying, "I prefer the bagpipes" is because the BFG refers to "whizzpopping" as "music", which prompts her to think that it's actual music.
** The scene with the drink (known as frobscottle) that causes the 'whizzpopping' is also hilarious. Sophie observes that it's fizzing the wrong way but the BFG thinks that upwards is the wrong way because in his culture, burping is ruder than farting.
--->BFG: "But if everybody is making whizzpoppers now and again, why not talk about it?"
* The maid, Mary's reaction to seeing the BFG.
** Followed by the military leaders' reaction,
--> At least that....Beat (BFG looking calmly at them)
** The Sergeant's rather understated reaction deserves a mention:
--> Blimey. He's a big fella, ain't he?
* When the military leaders salute him, BFG attempts to stand up to salute them back, only to hit his head on the chandelier. Cue this gem:
-->BFG: "Ooo gunghumers and bogswinkels! What was that?"\
The Queen: (sounding very put out) "It was Louis the 15th."
* The nightmare the BFG releases among the giants and the giants' subsequent reactions to it. For context, he gives the Fleshlumpeater (the meanest giant) a nightmare about Jack from Literature/JackAndTheBeanstalk, who is infamous among giants for being a famous giant killer and he starts rolling around on the floor sleep-talking. At one point, he claims he's never killed a human in his life, prompting the BFG to remark, "Liar!".
* Dahl's narration is funny as always. One line from right after Sophie is kidnapped from her room by the BFG reads, more or less: "And if you can think of anything more terrifying than that happening to you in the middle of the night, let's hear about it."
* The Heads of the Army and Air Force having a childish argument over whether they should use guns or bombs to defeat the Giants.
--> Air Force: Pow! Ka-boom! Bombs!
--> Army: (makes machine gun noises) Kaput! Tanks!
--> Air Force: Ka-boom!
--> Army: Kaput!
* The film version has the Queen's palace staff, who manage to completely sell their scenes as TheComicallySerious. To wit, they take a 24-foot giant and his 6-year old companion, drinks fizzing downward and causing Fartillery, and said giant accidentally spitting an entire saucer of piping hot coffee on them in complete stride.
* Apart from when he's about to unknowingly eat Sophie, the Fleshlumpeater's introductory scene is downright hilarious:
--> Fleshlumpeater: (looking embarrassed) I's got a boo boo...\
He holds out his finger showing that he has a tiny cut on it\
BFG: Hmm, possibly later.\
Fleshlumpeater: (stamping his feet like a child throwing a tantrum) Nooooow, runt!
** And this exchange just before he leaves:
--> Fleshlumpeater is about to eat the snozzcumber that Sophie is hiding in\
The BFG grabs onto his arm to stop him\
BFG: Wait! You hates vegetables! You eats only beans!\
Fleshlumpeater drops the snozzcumber\
Fleshlumpeater: I hates vegeterribles! I eats only beans!\
BFG: Yeah!\
Fleshlumpeater: Yeah!\
BFG: Yeah.\
Fleshlumpeater: Yeah!\
BFG: Yeah...\
[beat]\
Fleshlumpeater: (seemingly forgetting what they were talking about)...Yeah.
* All the place-related puns:
** Humans from Turkey are said to taste of turkey (or Turkish Delight in the AnimatedAdaptation), humans from Panama of hats, humans from Denmark and Laborador of dogs, humans from Wellington of Wellington boots, Greeks taste greasy, humans from Chile taste chilly (but Hottentots are hot), humans from Sweden taste "Sweden sour", and finally English schoolchildren taste of ink and books.
** The Fleshlumpeater goes to Baghdad to "bag Dad" (and Mum and their ten children).
* The BFG tells Sophie not to IResembleThatRemark "gobblefunk around" with words.
* When Sophie is starting to have reservations about giving the Queen a nightmare, the BFG puts it into perspective:
-->BFG: "I think the Queen would be perfectly willing to have a nightmare, if having a nightmare is going to save all the human beans in the world."
* From the part with the dreams:
** One boy dreams that he gains the power to turn invisible when pressing his belly button, and uses it to scare his algebra teacher due to hating algebra.
** One girl dreams about climbing Mt. Everest with only her cat.
** One boy refers to the voice his father uses when talking on the phone as his "very important telephone voice". He's in shock when he gets the President of the United States on the other end asking to speak to his son. The son proceeds to have a long talk with the President, saying things like "Let me take care of it, Mr. President, you'll bungle it all up if you do it your way," while the father is listening and his eyes are bugging out of his head.
** One boy dreams of growing a huge bushy beard at age eight and making all the other boys jealous.
** One girl dreams of becoming the world's best writer, only for her mother to come in and berate her for her bad spelling and punctuation. Even funnier, the BFG uses NoPunctuationPeriod and misspells "atrocious" as "atroshus" and "punctuation" as "puntalashon".
** One boy dreams that he invents "suction boots" and climbs up the wall. When his sister enters and asks what he's doing on the ceiling, he replies, "I've always said you'd drive me up the wall, and now you've done it!".
