1	* The Home Guard stages an invasion exercise in "War Games" with Foyle appointed as a referee. He suggests to the somewhat pompous guard commander that his rigid plans aren't realistic, and is summarily told off for making suggestions when he's meant to be a neutral observer. The Guard is subsequently ambushed, foiled, and humiliated by the regular army who ignore the carefully-drawn lines and disguise themselves with the Guard's red flagging. When the commander appeals to Foyle over this violation of the rules and demands that he do something, Foyle responds that he's just a neutral observer and couldn't possibly interfere.
2	* In "Bleak Midwinter," the guilty party has broken into a hairdresser's. Foyle arrives and goes down to the basement to find that he's taken the shop's owner hostage and smashed through to the bank next door, where he's busy setting up explosives.

10	* After the whole station is stumped by the swastika-in-a-square puzzle in "Casualties of War," Foyle walks in, glances at it, and casually suggests they look "behind" the four cards they're supposed to form a swastika with. Brooks realizes the meaning[[note]]the swastika is formed by the space between the cards, not the cards themselves[[/note]] after everyone's left the room. Later, he goes in to put something on Foyle's desk and finds [[NotSoAboveItAll Foyle had already taken the time to solve the puzzle properly]] on his own.
11	* When Brooks comments that the higher-ups have finally done something right (by un-retiring Foyle), Foyle stops with his customary "right," and proceeds to declare that if he hears anything more like that, he'll kick Brooks out of the police force himself, and strides off. As soon as he's gone, Brooks smiles and says it's good to have him back.
12	* Frequently, when the murder investigations cross with "vital wartime operations", someone will comment at how the inconvenient it is that the man was murdered. Foyle's response is always "Particularly for him/her, don't you think?"
13	* In "All Clear", when Foyle's son Andrew asks Sam to marry him and she says she just wants to be friends.

16	* [=MI5=] and a Saudi prince are separately fed false intelligence, resulting in a very public, dangerous, and embarrassing confrontation ahead of a peace conference. The minister in charge of the conference demands a resignation, and Foyle ''leaps'' to tender his. He's practically dancing out of the agency's headquarters while Hilda, Valentine, and Sir Alec protest volubly.
17	* The music-hall style revue staged by the burns hospital patients in "Enemy Fire." In one skit, "Dr. Jaimeson" (dressed in tartan and beret) tells "Detective Foyle" (kitted out like Holmes) says that someone tried to drop a statue on Group-Captain Smythe.
