* Captain Cummings claims that "EDI is the whole point" of the brand-new anti-terrorist unit he's in charge of. Then why the heck did they spend money on the F/A-37 Talon? There's nothing they do (besides [[JustPlaneWrong defy physics]] and try to invoke RuleOfCool) that three Super Hornets couldn't have accomplished just as easily.
** Because the Talons were also hypersonic-capable and (apparently) on a whole new level of stealthy. If nothing else, they needed the Talons to keep up with EDI while the computer was learning.
** And to serve as a kind of... backup plan if EDI were to go rogue.
** There's a ''lot'' of back-and-forth over whether future aircraft should be manned or unmanned, as a lot of people are understandably wary of autonomous weapons platforms flying around with high explosives on board. Presumably, EDI and the Talons were separate development programs, maybe even competitors for the same contract - a hypersonic, piloted jet aircraft, and then an unmanned, hypersonic, autonomous weapons platform with a learning AI that wasn't ready for testing until well after the Talons were ready. EDI has a cockpit with a control stick, so the airframe was apparently designed first and the AI controlling it was added later. Cummings is also probably exaggerating to Gannon when he says that EDI is the whole idea.
* EDI downloads every song ever and chooses a very generic sounding song for any time it pulls of a "Music/RideOfTheValkyries" moment. Why not pick something a little less dull?
