1* The recaps at the beginning of each episode being [[GratuitousForeignLanguage narrated in French by]] Creator/JojiNakata. In episode 23 [[spoiler:Gankutsuou fully possesses the Count]], which makes you realize that this is [[spoiler:Gankutsuou gloating over his plan]]. In the Japanese broadcast [[spoiler:the Count/Dantes]] speaks in Japanese, while when [[spoiler:Gankutsuou]] is in control he uses French. In the English, the recaps were in English, in [[spoiler:the Count's]] natural voice, and the dubbers gave [[spoiler:Gankutsuou]] a deeper voice slightly reminscent of a [[Series/DoctorWho Dalek]] to differentiate between the two in that crucial scene in episode 23.
2* The Opening Theme is narrated by Edmund Dantes, the Closing Theme is narrated by The Count of Monte Cristo.
3* The LoveTriangle of [[spoiler:Edmond, Fernand and Mercedes]] is echoed by Albert, Franz and Eugenie, only this time it's Franz who loves Albert. Unlike [[spoiler:Fernand]], Franz acts selflessly to save the one he loves rather than doing anything to greedily keep him for himself, [[spoiler:and his sacrifice is key to ending the wave of tragedy that Fernand's betrayal began.]]
4** Also, it was originally an ArrangedMarriage in their case, and Franz has similarly got one planned with Valentine de Villefort, so it's not like he can blame and hate Eugéne over it. Also, Franz is probably aware that it'd be an IncompatibleOrientation between him and Albert, who clearly likes girls (and was disturbed to learn that [[DudeLooksLikeALady Peppo is a guy]].)
