->Scottish Highwayman: STAND AND DELIVER!
->Dick: That's just what I was about to do.
->Harriet: And about time too!
-->-- Dick Turpin and Harriet bump into a Scottish Highwayman.

Carry On Dick was released in 1974, and was the 26th film in the Film/CarryOn series. It was based on the Georgian historical highwayman Dick Turpin, who was known for robbing aristocrats around England, and stars Creator/SidJames, Creator/BarbaraWindsor, Creator/KennethWilliams, Creator/HattieJacques, Creator/BernardBresslaw, Creator/JoanSims, Creator/KennethConnor, Creator/PeterButterworth, and Creator/JackDouglas. This was the last Film/CarryOn film for James, Jacques, and Windsor.Though all three appeared in episodes of Series/CarryOnLaughing and Windsor co-hosted the compilation film Film/ThatsCarryOn.

Dick is an AffectionateParody of a historical event, much like Film/CarryOnHenry and Film/CarryOnCleo, making the movie focus around the LoveableRogue Dick Turpin (James) and his life as the Reverend Flasher in the day and a highwayman at night. Possibly because of his legacy, Dencher is full of thieves that walk the streets and rob from rich citizens in carriages, but the Bow Street Runners, led by Sir Roger Daley (Bresslaw) and Captain Desmond Fancey (Williams), have captured every single one. The problem they face is that quick-witted Dick is always one step ahead of them, with the help of his friends Tom (Butterworth) and Harriet (Windsor), who also help him at the local church with the oblivious Martha Hoggett (Jacques).

Despite the Runners intervening on many of Dick's ambushes, Dick manages to hold up Madame Desiree (Sims) and her Birds of Paradise (Creator/PennyIrving, Laraine Humphrys, Linda Hooks, and Eva Reuber-Staier), and repeatedly rob Sir Roger and his Lady wife (Creator/MargaretNolan). Captain Fancey and Sergeant Jock Strapp (Douglas) decide to go alone, in fear of being fired by Sir Roger, and head to the Old Cock Inn where they manage to find out the history of Dick Turpin from Maggie (Creator/MarianneStone), which they try and use to their advantage (with disastrous results) alongside help from the blithering old Constable (Connor), who manages to be even less competent then they are!

Dick, Tom and Harriet seem to be on getting away with their crimes scot-free, but dark times loom ahead for them after Miss Hoggett speaks with Squire Trelawney (Creator/MichaelNightingale) and Mrs. Giles (Creator/PatsyRowlands) at the church jumble sale and hears that Reverend Flasher hasn't been visiting them like he claims, causing her to grow suspicious of the Rector's actions, while Harriet is arrested upon discovery she is in possession of Lady Daley's stolen bracelet.

Captain Fancey and Sergeant Strapp seem like they are getting closer to stopping Dick Turpin once and for all, but it seems that Big Dick has a few more tricks up his sleeve that no one sees coming...

Expect a HurricaneOfPuns, bawdy humour, and Creator/SidJames' dirty laugh. It is a Film/CarryOn film, after all.
----
!!Tropes Include:
* AbhorrentAdmirer: Miss Hoggett to Dick, who doesn't find her attractive.
* AccentSlipUp: Whenever Madame Desiree is found out to be a Cockney, or just gets really angry, she drops her French accent. Doesn't stop her from trying to regain this facade though.
* AccidentalPervert: After discovering that Dick Turpin has a birthmark on his diddler, Sergeant Strapp follows men into the restroom and inspects their genitalia as they urinate. He could've been unnoticed if he didn't directly stand over them with a magnifying glass.
* ActorAllusion: The voice Captain Fancey uses when pretending to be Dandy Desmond is based on the voice Creator/KennethWilliams used to play Rambling Syd Rumpo in Radio/RoundTheHorne.
* ActuallyPrettyFunny: A Scottish highwayman holds up Dick's gang but lets them go after they make him laugh with a sex joke.
* AffectionateParody: The film follows historical figure Dick Turpin... although with far more penis jokes than in reality.
* AllGirlsWantBadboys:
** The Birds of Paradise all fawn over Dick as he robs them at gunpoint.
** Harriet wants Dick because of the danger that comes with him.
* AlliterativeName: Dandy Desmond, the alias Sergeant Strapp gives Captain Fancey.
* AllMenArePerverts: Sir Roger is quite a womanizer when Lady Daley, his wife, is on the other side of England.
* AllThereInTheScript:
** We don't get to know Miss Hoggett's first name, but the back of the DVD in "The Classic Film/CarryOn Film Collection" boxset gives it as "Martha".
** We don't get to know the names of the tailor and the Bow Street Runner with Sergeant Strapp when the Birds of Paradise are held up in the film, but they are given as "Isaac" and "Browning" respectively in cast lists.
* AllWomenAreLustful:
** The Birds of Paradise, probably because they're not allowed to get amorous with the men they meet (Madame Desiree threatens the audience with her rapier if any of them want to try anything). When Sir Roger and his secret police catch "Dick" (Harriet in disguise) trying to hide in the Birds' bedroom, Captain Fancey orders the Birds to leave as "Dick" strips off to show "his" birthmark, and the Birds leave with obvious looks of disappointment on their faces.
** Harriet definitely shows signs of this, being attracted to the badboy Dick Turpin. When she is called into his office, she starts to throw herself upon him as he talks, feeling for the buttons on his shirt and ruffling his hair.
* AndImTheQueenOfSheba: When Captain Fancy is being arrested by the Constable while believed to be Dick Turpin:
-->Captain Fancey: I am Captain Fancey of the Bow Street Runners!\
Constable: And Ah'm Titania, Queen of all the fairies!
* AttemptedRape: Captain Fancey threatens to force himself on Harriet to get her to confess about what she knows of Dick Turpin, but it backfires on him.
-->Captain Fancey: You're a comely wench. There's nothing to stop me forcing my attentions on you.
-->Harriet: Oh, promises, promises!
-->Captain Fancey: Whoa! Oh, get off! She's incorrigible!
* BadassPreacher: Dick Turpin must count as this as Reverend Flasher, even though it's his alter ego. The final scene counts as this, as .
* BadHabits: Dick's gang all disguise as members of the clergy. Tom and Harriet as church workers, and Dick as the Reverend Flasher.
* BaitAndSwitch: With Bodkin during Dick's sermon:
-->Dick: If there is one man, just one man amongst you, who can say in all truthfulness that within the past week he has not committed adultery, then he may leave this church now and go, with my blessing. (Beat) Ah, we have at least one good man with us. Well done, Brother Bodkin.
-->Bodkin: Oh, it's not that, Rector. You just reminded me where I left my 'at last night.
* BaitAndSwitchComment: When Dick as Reverend Flasher gives a sermon:
-->Dick: As I look 'round my little flock this beautiful day, I cannot help but be struck by the thought that seldom under one roof can there have been gathered such a fine collection... of thieves and fornicators.
* BathtubScene: Captain Fancey is thrown into a bathtub by the Birds of Paradise as they strip him.
* BirdPoopGag: As Captain Fancey and Sergeant Strapp send off a messenger pigeon, it poops on Captain Fancey's hat:
-->Captain Fancey: Oh! Filthy beast! Give me a bit of paper.
-->Sergeant Strapp: Don't be silly, that pigeon'll be miles away by now.
* BlowingARaspberry: Dick blows one at Captain Fancey and Sir Roger after making his escape from the church in a stolen stagecoach.
* BoundAndGagged: Captain Fancey and Sergeant Strapp are left in this condition by Dick's gang after Harriet is broken out of jail.
* BrickJoke: Bodkin leaves Dick's sermon to go retrieve his hat from his one night stand's house. Later in the film, Tom sees him in the stocks and Bodkin shamefully mentions her husband had found his hat before he did.
* BullyingADragon: Madame Desiree gives Dick attitude while he robs her at gunpoint:
-->Dick: Excuse me Madame, I don't think you've noticed what I've got 'ere.
-->Madame Desiree: Hmm, that doesn't scare me. I've seen bigger ones in my time.
* TheCasanova: Sir Roger, who is seen with several young women when Lady Daley's on the other side of England.
* CharacterCatchphrase: Dick's "Stand and deliver!".
* ChekhovsGun: When Captain Fancey, Sergeant Strapp, Sir Roger, the Constable and Lady Daley discuss Dick Turpin, Lady Daley cries over the loss of her mother's bracelet. Later on, this is how Harriet is discovered to be in Dick's gang - she is spotted wearing the aforementioned bracelet.
* ClingyJealousGirl: Miss Hoggett weeps at Dick's feet when she thinks he has another woman.
* CluelessDetective: It really makes one wonder how Captain Fancey and Sergeant Strapp made to their current ranks in the Runners, considering how many times Dick outsmarts them.
* ComicallyMissingThePoint: When Captain Fancey and Sergeant Strapp try to tell Reverend Flasher that Dick Turpin has a birthmark on his penis, he keeps misunderstanding their euphemisms, e.g. "woodcutter" and "cock". Of course, Reverend Flasher was Dick in disguise, so it was all on purpose.
* Corpsing: InUniverse; Dick and Tom drop their pious act to snigger at Bodkin remembering where he left his hat last night.
* CurseCutShort: Captain Fancey stops himself when talking to Reverend Flasher.
-->Dick: Well, so many folk 'round here keep poultry, you see.
-->Captain Fancey: I don't mean that kind of co- Oh, this is very difficult.
* DamselInDistress: Harriet is captured after being revealed to be a member of Dick's gang and is locked up in the jail.
* TheDandy: Sergeant Strapp gives Captain Fancey the alias "Dandy Desmond" when they go undercover at the Old Cock Inn.
-->Bodkin: Is the law after you then, sir?
-->Sergeant Strapp: After 'im? You've obviously never heard of... Dandy Desmond?!
-->Bodkin: "Randy" who?
* DeadpanSnarker: Sir Roger, having no time for Captain Fancey's failures.
-->Sir Roger: Brilliant! A masterpiece of deduction, ya blitherin' jackass! I'll have ya hide for this!
* DirtyCoward: When Harriet holds Captain Fancey and Sergeant Strapp at gunpoint, Captain Fancey hides behind Sergeant Strapp and lies that he is Captain Fancey, not him.
* DirtyOldWoman: Maggie, who willingly talks about her encounter with Turpin, no matter how intimate the reason to his visit is.
* DisguisedInDrag:
** Harriet pretends to be a boy when in Dick's gang.
** Dick and Tom dress up as old women to rescue Harriet after she's arrested, and when Harriet is freed, they take her out disguised as Captain Fancey.
* DistractedByTheSexy: Tom has to be dragged away from the Birds of Paradise by Dick.
* DoggedNiceGirl: Miss Hoggett longs to marry Dick, but he won't give her the time of day.
* DoubleEntendre: Captain Fancey and Sergeant Strapp try to pinpoint Dick's hideout as Captain Fancey is fitted for pants by Isaac the tailor, leading to this exchange:
-->Sergeant Strapp: There's a notorious inn just as you go into Lower Dencher here.
-->Captain Fancey: The Old Cock, on the right.
-->Isaac: Aha! Well that's where we've been goin' wrong!
-->Captain Fancey: Ye- What?
-->Isaac: I've made provision on the left.
* DramaticNecklaceRemoval: PlayedForLaughs. Dick Turpin is robbing Madame Desiree, and tells her to hand over her necklace, unaware that it is the only thing holding her knickers up.
-->Madame Desiree: No, no, you must not touch that, eet, eet-eet eez my only means of support!
-->Dick: Come on, let me 'ave a look at it!
-->Madame Desiree: No, you mustn't! Argh! (Beat) I told you it was my only means of support!
* DressingAsTheEnemy: Harriet disguises herself as Captain Fancey to escape from jail.
* EndOfAnAge: This was the last of many Film/CarryOn films to feature Creator/SidJames getting it off with Creator/BarbaraWindsor. Indeed, the very last scene features them eloping in a carriage with "THE END" written on its window blind. Neither would appear in any future films, and James died within two years of this film's release.
* ExactWords: One scene has Dick and his gang trying to rob a carriage on the highway.
-->Dick: Stand and deliver! Deliver I say, deliver! (Popping noise, followed by a baby's cries) Ah, well. You can't win 'em all.
* FakingAnotherPersonsIllness: Dick lies to Miss Hoggett that Mrs. Giles is very ill so he can have an alibi for where he is during his late night highwayman activities.
* Fauxreigner: Madame Desiree pretends to be French for the Birds of Paradise act.
-->Madame Desiree: Oh, mon Dieu! 'Oo do you think I am?
-->Sir Roger: A damned attractive Cockney wench with an absurdly bogus French accent.
* FlatWhat: Dick gives one while disguised as Reverend Flasher when Captain Fancey suggests a hypothetical scenario where he was Dick Turpin.
* FlirtatiousSmackOnTheAss:
** The Constable gives one to Lizzie of the Birds of Paradise.
** Tom gives one to Dick while the two are DisguisedInDrag.
* FoodSlap:
** When Tom sees Bodkin held in stocks, he smashes a tomato in his face.
** Captain Fancey and Sergeant Strapp are locked in stocks after being arrested on belief of being Dick Turpin, and a large crowd gathers to throw heads of lettuce, tomatoes and eggs at them.
--->Sergeant Strapp: S'a waste o' good food an' all.
* ForcefulKiss: Harriet gives one to Dick as he pretends to tell her off to appease Miss Hoggett.
* FunetikAksent: Invoked by Bodkin, who reads the French writing on Madame Desiree's banner with English pronunciation.
-->Bodkin: Right now, come on lads, settle down nice and quiet because once again, it's my very great pleasure to introduce Madame Desiree and her Oizy-ecks dez Paradiss.
* GeneralFailure: Captain Fancey, despite leading the Bow Street Runners he manages to be the biggest idiot in the film.
* GentlemanThief: Dick Turpin is always polite when robbing people, even if he has them at gunpoint.
* GratuitousFrench: Captain Fancey uses some when flirting with Madame Desiree.
-->Captain Fancey: I have what you French call a certain je ne sais quoi.\
Madame Desiree: Yes, an' I 'ope to see it, mon cher.
* GunsInChurch: Captain Fancey points one at Dick while he gives his sermon in the climax.
* TheGunslinger: Big Dick gets his name from his big gun.

* HypocriticalHumour: When Tom tries to tell Dick that Harriet has been captured.
-->Tom: Bad news, I'm afraid! Damn and blast it!\
Miss Hoggett: Oh!\
Dick: Tom, Tom, Tom. No news is so bad that it merits the use of a cuss word. Particularly in front of Miss Hoggett.\
Tom: Sorry, Rector. But they've got Harriet.\
Dick: Bloody hell!
* ImpersonatingAnOfficer: Harriet pretends to be Captain Fancey after stealing his clothes.
* InconsistentSpelling:
** There is debate as to if Creator/BarbaraWindsor plays a character called "Harriet" or "Harriett". The DVD subtitles use the former spelling.
** The [=DVDs=] can't decide if Creator/JohnClive's tailor character is called "Isaac" or "Isaak".

-->Sergeant Strapp: Excuse me, but I was distinctly under the impression that they were walking right into your trap!\
Captain Fancey: If you can't talk sense, shut yer trap!
* NoFullNameGiven:
** We don't get to know Harriet, Madame Desiree, Lizzie, Maggie, William, or Katy's last names.
** The same can be said for Bodkin, Lady Daley, Mr. and Mrs. Giles, Bullock, and Squire Trelawney's first names.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: Reverend Flasher (Dick in disguise) keeps misunderstanding Captain Fancey and Sergeant Strapp's euphemisms for penis as they try to find out Dick Turpin's identity.

-->Captain Fancey: Of course! That's who the woman reminded me of!
-->Sir Roger: Who!
-->Captain Fancey: The old Rector! So similar, it could almost have been him!
-->Sir Roger: And you told him about our plan to catch Turpin?

Sergeant Strapp: A "diddler" is a slang term... [Sergeant Strapp whispers in Captain Fancey's ear as an accordion plays]\
Captain Fancey: Hoooo! Flap me sideways! I've never heard it called that before!
* VerbalBackspace: Captain Fancey stops praising Sergeant Strapp once he finds out that he let Dick get away.
-->Captain Fancey: There! What did I tell you? Good ol' Jock!
-->Sergeant Strapp: Well, there's one slight problem, sir. He got away.
-->Captain Fancey: I knew I wouldn't let me dow- He got away? How?!

--->Harriet: Ooh, I'll just pop out an' see.\
Dick: You pop out anymore, we'll 'ave standin' room only!
* WhatsAHenway: As Sergeant Strapp checks off his weaponry:
-->Sergeant Strapp: Pistol!
-->Captain Fancey: What? I haven't 'ad a drop!
* WholePlotReference: The idea behind a crook using a pious vicar as an alter-ego comes from Literature/DoctorSynTheScarecrow.
* WhoWouldBeStupidEnough: When Dick and Tom try to escape the church, Tom suggests they slip out through the backdoor, but Dick claims that the Bow Street Runners wouldn't be stupid enough to leave the backdoor unguarded. True to his word, the Constable is there with a gun in hand.
