3	''The Light at the Edge of the World'' is a 1971 film directed by Kevin Billington and starring Creator/KirkDouglas, Creator/YulBrynner and Creator/SamanthaEggar. It is based on the 1905 adventure novel ''The Lighthouse at the End of the World'' (''Le Phare du bout du monde'') by Creator/JulesVerne (written in 1901 but published a few months after Verne's death).

5	In 1865, William "Will" Denton (Douglas) is a jaded American miner who seeks to escape a troubled past and becomes a lighthouse keeper on a rocky island in the Tierra del Fuego archipelago, at the southern tip of UsefulNotes/SouthAmerica. One day, a crew of pirates led by Captain Jonathan Kongre (Brynner) land on the island, murder everyone they can find and extinguish the light so they can mislead ships into the rocks and prey upon them. Denton manages to escape the massacre and goes on a guerilla campaign against the pirates.
