The series revolves around Discord, who has escaped from his [[TakenForGranite prison]] and discovered a television, which eventually gives him an idea: take seventeen ponies, [[MyFriendsAndZoidberg a dragon, a zebra, and a griffon,]] and split them into teams for a game called [[TitleDrop Total Magic Pony Island]] and broadcast it to all of Equestria. While the participants he chooses are reluctant at first to play, they decide to stick around after learning of the prize given to the winner: one million bits.
