The Warder Cycle is an AlternateUniverse ''{{Literature/Redwall}}'' fanfiction series by [[https://www.fanfiction.net/u/10320672/Waycaster Waycaster]] on Fanfiction.net. It follows the plot of two fics from [[https://www.fanfiction.net/u/901160/Jade-TeaLeaf Jade TeaLeaf]], who has been off the net since 2013, and acts as a {{Continuation}} and RecursiveFanfiction to her work.

The setting is the [[TheGoodKingdom Kingdom of Southsward]] (that was mentioned in ''The Bellmaker'') and its neighbours, the [[RisingEmpire Kingdom of Triel]] and the [[HegemonicEmpire High Kingdom of Parma]], who have a tendency to gear up for war every twenty seasons (the Redwall equivalent of years). Aside from the conflicts and the misery that arises from them, two different sets of FunctionalMagic slowly returns to the world - a situation the title characters, the mysterious [[TheOmniscientCouncilofVagueness Warders]], seek to exploit...

Some fic titles by Waycaster are not to be confused with the {{VideoGame/Final Fantasy XIV}} expansion titles they are named after.

* [[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/4089014/1/The-Chains-that-Bind-Us The Chains that Bind Us ''by Jade TeaLeaf'']] (2008-2011, dormant)

The fic that started it all - a woodlander and a fox enslaved and [[ChainedHeat chained]] to each other finds their way to freedom, but a threat to Redwall Abbey is marshalling far to the north, in the Lands of Ice and Snow.

* [[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/8856621/1/The-Blood-Between-Us The Blood Between Us ''by Jade TeaLeaf'']] (2013, dormant)

The sequel to the first fic, set twenty-five seasons later. Three beasts find their destinies wound together all too tightly in Southsward, with the Stolen Warrior trying to carve his place, the Wayward Traveller trying to find her kin, and the Fledgling Lord trying to fulfil his duty - all while a neighbouring kingdom makes plans.

* [[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13251925/1/A-Realm-Reborn A Realm Reborn]] (2018-)

Waycaster's first continuation, set twenty-two seasons before The Blood Between Us. War breaks out in the Southern Realms, and nobeast is prepared for it. With Southsward breaking away from Triel, all Hellgates breaks loose, and a young [[BlueBlood noble]] healer is swept up in the chaos.

* [[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13422316/1/Arcana Arcana]] (2018-)

The {{Prequel}} set forty seasons before ARR, illustrating the life of a king who suddenly realises that he can use [[FunctionalMagic Conjuration]] thanks to a visitor from another world - and runs into more trouble than he could handle himself, with conniving lords, errant kingdoms and ''more'' visitors from [[TheMultiverse alternate worlds]].

----
!!The series contains examples of:

* AChildShallLeadThem Young Thordan is [[spoiler: chosen to be King of Dravania, in part due to his naiveté and young age.]]
%%* AdventureDuo: Matoya with Old Thordan, and then Old Thordan with Isagnrim.
%%* AllYourPowersCombined: [[spoiler: Arbert and his team at Chillgrave.]]
%%* AltarDiplomacy: A staple in any medieval setting - too many to count, actually, though Erlend and Lorelei's marriage stands out.
* AndNowYouMustMarryMe: [[spoiler: Triel's plan is for Corinne to marry Egan Stalwart, by force if necessary.]]
%%* AnIcePerson: A staple for Thaumaturges - Hersent indulges in this style of offence.
%%* ApologeticAttacker: Dagbert
* AristocratsAreEvil: Well... not all of them are completely evil, though none of them re exactly squeaky clean except for Thordan Swalestrom, Lorcan Stalwart and Gavin Swalestrom, and that's debatable. [[spoiler: Then there's [[BigBadEnsemble The Ward]].]]
%%* AristocratTeam: The Ward. Aside from Isangrim, anyways.
* ArrangedMarriage: Again, too many to count. Pretty much every marriage is arranged. This causes some friction between Corinne Swalestrom and her family due to her infatuation with Oriel.
%%* AttackHello: Lorelei does that to [[spoiler: Dagbert and Arbert]] twice.'
* BadassAndChildDuo: Isangrim and Young Thordan. [[spoiler: This lasts for a mere two chapters before Dagbert kidnaps them both.]]
%%* BadassLongRobe: Isangrim. [[spoiler: As Emmeroloth, he has a BlackCloak instead.]]
* BigScrewedUpFamily: House Swalestrom. Two brothers not trying to kill each other is a rare occurrence. Even though [[spoiler: half the family is dead]] by ''The Blood Between Us'', the family is still quite strained.
%%* BenevolentMageRuler: Old Thordan aspires to be one.
%%* BlackKnight: [[spoiler: Fandaniel.]]
%%* BunniesForCuteness: Clove.
%%* TheCaligula: Old Thordan is often painted as one, to his amusement.
%%* ChainedHeat: Brink and Keetch, until Lord Rathor breaks the chain between them.
%%* TheChampion: [[spoiler: Galen and Dirk for Bellamy.]] Oriel for Corinne.
%%* CombatDiplomacyStealth: Arbert, Dagbert and Slyte. Ralos falls in the middle. Alfyn, Thordan and Egil as well.
%%* CoolCrown: Lots.
%%* CourtlyLove Corinne and Oriel/Asch.
* CourtMage: Matoya and Isangrim were secretly this to Old Thordan, under the guises of being mundane spymasters..
* CunningLikeAFox: One of the reasons why Keetch is so mistrusted by all woodlanders. Isangrim tries too hard to play it straight, while Renart is a natural.
%%* DecadentCourt: And how!
%%* {{Determinator}}: Brink. Old Thordan tries to be one, while Young Thordan doesn't even try.
%%* ElectiveMonarchy: Parma. Seeing that it is based on the Holy Roman Empire, it would probably not be surprising.
%%* EmperorScientist Old Thordan yet again.
%%* EvilDebtCollector: Skuli has the impression of being this.
%%* TheFettered: Young Thordan, Asch and Lord Keetch
%%* TheEvilPrince [[AxCrazy Egan Stalwart]].
%%* FighterMageThief: Arbert, Dagbert and Slyte, plus Alfyn, Thordan and Egil again, though by the time Thordan discovers his powers, he and the other two are separated.
%%* FireIceDuo: Isangrim and Hersent.
%%* FirstLawOfResurrection: [[spoiler: The Ward is wholly composed of revived deadbeasts.]]%%Not the trope.
* FourPhilosophyEnsemble: Brink is the Cynic, Old Thordan is the Optimist, Asch is the Realist, Keetch is the Apathetic, Young Thordan is the Conflicted.
* FourTemperamentEnsemble: The four protagonists. Old Thordan is Sanguine, Brink is Choleric, Young Thordan is Melancholic, and Asch is Phlegmatic.
* FreudianTrio: TBBU's main trio plays it straight - Miria is the Id, Asch is the Ego, Lord Keetch is the Superego.
* FurryReminder: As Thordan finds out, Isangrim smells just like a fox does in real life does - not exactly fragrant.
%%* TheGentlemanOrTheScoundrel: Galen or Dirk for Bellamy. [[spoiler: She chooses Galen. Oddly enough, Alfyn fits both archetypes, but Bellamy rejects him at the first opportunity.]]
%%* GodSaveUsFromTheQueen: Lorelei could be one, though she engages in tyrannical hobbies only sparingly.
%%* TheGoodKing: Old Thordan for vermin. Less so for woodlanders, Valnainers and all those who tried to rebel against him.
%%* GreatOffscreenWar: The Battle of Balv. Well, until Arcana anyway.
* TheGuardsMustBeCrazy: Guards not standing in their posts makes Thordan's rescue not just possible, but pathetically easy.
%%* GuysSmashGirlsShoot: Brink and Sarrow. Inverted with Isangrim and Lorelei.
%%* HarmonyVersusDiscipline Conjuration Versus Thaumaturgy. The author took this concept from ''Literature/TheWheelOfTime'' and applied it to species instead of genders.
%%* HeirInLaw: Erlend is set up to become this by Old Thordan, though he rejects the opportunities.
%%* HeterosexualLifePartners: Thordan and Egil.
%%* TheHighKing: Parma, obviously. It still tries to claim dominion over Triel and Southsward now and then, but it has already been stretched to its limits.
%%* TheHighQueen: Lorelei tries so, so hard, but sinks closer into [[GodSaveUsFromTheQueen the other type]] of queen.
%%* HonoraryPrincess Corinne.
%%* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: Lord Canute.
* InterclassFriendship: Egil and Thordan. Despite Egil's father being richer than Thordan's, Thordan has the social standing due to Egil being a 'vermin' weasel.
%%* JustFriends: Egil and Thordan, despite what the Southards may tell you.
%%* TheKingslayer: Isangrim. [[spoiler: Twice, in fact.]]
* KissingCousins: Yet again, a medieval trope. Oddly enough, only one coupling happened between first cousins, and that was in the backstory.
* LastofHisKind: After the death of King Thordan of Parma, Lorelei is the last member of House Skyward. [[spoiler: Not really.]]
%%* LadyAndKnight: Corinne and Oriel. Bellamy and Galen as well.
%%* LadyInWaiting: Corinne has one, and they switch places often.
%%* TheLoad: Young Thordan thinks he's this for [[spoiler: Dravania]]. He's not wrong.
* TheMagicComesBack: Technically, the magic was always there, but nobeast was able to sense that.
%%* MotherMakesYouKing: Lorelei succeeds with Thordan but fails with Corrado.
%%* NiceMeanAndInBetween: Old Thordan, Lorelei and Isangrim; Young Thordan, Alfyn and Egil; Tarka, Melo and Sarrow.
%%* NobleMaleRoguishMale: Alfyn is the Noble with Egil, but is the Rogue with Lorcan. Galen is this to Brink.
* OccupiersOutOfOurCountry: The Laagmeer shrews. A pity they can't really define which is their enemy -- the Domans who try to subjugate them, or the Parmans who already do.
%%* OfferedTheCrown: Young Thordan. He doesn't accept [[spoiler: but they make him king anyway]].
%%* OriginsEpisode: Arcana.
%%* PortTown: [[BrightCastle Floret]], Orience, Kaldos and Vargo are examples, though Raevsvakt takes the cake.
%%* PoliticallyActivePrincess Lorelei and Bellamy. {{Averted}} with Corinne.
%%* PrinceCharming: On one paw we have Old Thordan...
%%* PrinceCharmless: On the other we have Young Thordan.
%%* ProperLady: Ayda Crestworth.
%%* PuppetKing: [[spoiler: Young Thordan]].
%%* RebelliousPrincess: Corinne. Her mother's rebellion was more muted, but consequences it did have.
%%* RedOniBlueOni: Brink to Keetch. Lord Gavin to Lord Keetch. Alfyn and Egil to Young Thordan. Old Thordan to Matoya. Isangrim to Lorelei.
%%* RotatingProtagonist: Both of Jade's works.
%%* RulerProtagonist: Both Thordans.
%%* SelfProclaimedKnight Oriel. {{Justified}} since he is actually a vermin foot soldier fighting for a lady on his master's behalf.%%ZCE. Does not explain how the trope is used.
%%* SorcerousOverlord: [[spoiler: Old Thordan, when he wants to be cruel for a change.]]
%%* StraightManAndWiseGuy: Isangrim and Old Thordan.
%%* SuccessionCrisis: Parma is embroiled in one in ARR.
%%* SwitchingPOV: All fics.
%%* SwordAndSorcerer: Brink and Keetch.
%%* TickleTorture: [[spoiler: Poor Thordan...]]
%%* TomboyPrincess: Lorelei.
%%* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Lorelei and Hersent from ARR. [[spoiler: Matoya and Marla from Arcana as well.]]
* TheTourney: Once [[spoiler: at the end of ARR]], the other in TBBU. These tournaments are special because the winner gets the StandardHeroReward.
%%* ThreeSuccessfulgenerations: Old Thordan, Lorelei and Corrado.
%%* TwinSwitch: Lorcan and Alfyn, more than once.
%%* TheUnfettered: Brink, Old Thordan and Miria.
%%* UglyGuyHotWife: GenderInverted by Erlend and Lorelei.
%%* UselessProtagonist: Young Thordan.
%%* WarIsHell: For Berstraat. Bear in mind that this is only one of many villages ruined by war.
%%* WarriorPrince: All non-Thordan male Swalestroms. [[BloodKnight King Garmund]] as well.
%%* WackyParentSeriousChild: Becker to Garrion; Galen to Lord Keetch.
%%* WellDoneSonGuy: Young Thordan for the first third of ARR.
%%* TheWisePrince: Garrion Swalestrom. His cousin Thordan has the makings of one, small they might be.
