Context FanFic / TheNeoDominoPurge

Go To

The Neo-Domino Purge is a ''Anime/YuGiOh5Ds'' fanfic that follows an alternate continuity from episode 8 of the anime onwards. Desperate to uncover the Signers lurking on both sides of the Neo-Domino/Satellite divide, Rex Godwin creates a conflict between the two under the pretense of their way of life being threatened. Essentially the fanfic boils down to taking the TraumaCongaLine already set up in 5D's and turning it up to eleven. The fanfic is written by [=CuteYami=] apparently with someone else working on the story and duel planning. It can be found [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4568291/1/Neo_Domino_Purge_The/ here]]

The story itself has developed its own AlternativeContinuity, which continues from the end of the first Season, [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6696214/1/Neo_Domino_Purge_The_Path_Two taking place immediately after the Security Arc.]]

* BadassBiker: The D-Wheelers naturally.

* ForcedToWatch: Godwin leaves Yusei in the Detention Centre with a device to broadcast the attack on Satellite. Even when he ignores it, it plays automatically so that he can't even escape the audio.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: There are a few instances: Carly's photograph of Jack gives the illusion he's riding downhill, a sign that his luck is about to take a turn for the worst. Yusei also hears someone yelling his name at the end of his duel with Takasu; just over 20 chapters later, he meets with Kiryu, someone else whose death Yusei is responsible for, and it was his voice.
%%* FourEyesZeroSoul: Kinomiya, more so than in the anime.
* GambitRoulette: [[spoiler: Godwin's plan is to uncover the Signers quickly and force the Dark Signers to show themselves. He has to pray the situation doesn't get even more out of hand all the while.]]
* GetAHoldOfYourselfMan: Jack deals this to Yusei, not unlike the anime's take on the situation.
* GratuitousJapanese: The translated titles that accompany each chapter
** As well as the [[BadassCreed Synchro Speeches]].
** And in Chapter 24, Yusei's CallingYourAttacks uses it:

* GreatOffscreenWar: Over time, [[ArtifactTitle the battle between Neo-Domino and Satellite forces itself has taken a back seat]] to the Signer plot.

** [[spoiler: Ushio]] had no issues with Carly, he just duels her because she's there [[spoiler: and kills her just to spite Jack.]]
** In the same chapter, Misty doesn't have the time to finish off Aki, but has Ccarayhua attack the Arcadia Movement just to damage it further.
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler: Takasu and Judge.]]
* LaResistance: Rally, Crow and the others try this out. It doesn't go well.

** Kiryu himself doesn't disappoint and combines it with a SlasherSmile.
* LivingEmotionalCrutch: Divine appears to be one for Aki. When he's arrested by Security, she becomes even more of an Ice Queen. 110* NeckSnap: Kiryu attempts doing this to Yusei after their duel, he's stopped by Crow charging in to the rescue.

* NooneCouldSurviveThat: Divine thinks this after he [[spoiler: shoves Rua out of a window ala Carly in the canon]].
* NoOneGetsLeftBehind: Averted with the Detention Centre break-out.
** The mindset, however, is in place during the Security arc.

* OnTheNext: Done in the style of the anime's own.
* PastExperienceNightmare: In the same manner as the anime, Yusei has one [[spoiler: over his near-death experience at Ccapac Apu's hands, but elaborates on his feeling powerless to save those he's fighting for.]] With a helping of NightmareFuel. Overlaps with AnxietyDreams, as he'll have to face it again in the future.

* RagtagBunchOfMisfits: The Security infiltrators could count; they're made of an escaped prisoner who's jumped sides twice, an unstable psychic, a clumsy reporter, an 11-year old girl from the Tops (and then her brother who was supposed to have been kidnapped), a boy from Satellite of similar age and a thief who's just been arrested, then helped out just to tag along.
* RampJump: Jack, Crow and even Ushio have pulled these off in the beginning of Arc 3 through {{Ramprovisation}}.

* ScheduleSlip: There have been instances of 3/4 months passing without an update.
** There was almost six months between Chapters 32 and 33, due to a combination of being an [[OrdinaryHighSchoolStudent Ordinary University Student]] and CreatorBreakdown in the form of the author suffering from depression.
* ScrewDestiny: Jack's argument to Kinomiya's claims that he'll inevitably become a shadow of his former self and corrupted.
-->'''Jack''': I don't give a [[PrecisionFStrike fuck]] what your version of destiny says; I'll pave the way for my own life!
* SeasonFinale: Chapter 24
* [[MidSeasonTwist 7th Episode Twist]]: Chapter 7 has the first duel, and it's an AbsurdlyHighStakesGame. [[spoiler: It ends with Takasu dying at Yusei's hands]] and pretty much sets the tone for what's ahead.

* TheUnreveal: Although it was only hinted at very subtly, [[spoiler: Juri being Judge's son]] gets far more of an in-story reaction than it deserved.

* AFriendInNeed: Yusei in Chapter 27.
* BerserkButton: Mukuro unintentionally learns not to casually wish Jack's friends dead when Jack retaliates with some UnstoppableRage. It doesn't really help the fact that Jack [[ItsAllMyFault has been blaming himself over the Highway incident.]]

* BewareTheNiceOnes: Rua, much more than the original version of the fic.
