8Disney Interactive Studios is a VideoGame company. It was founded by [[Creator/{{Disney}} The Walt Disney Company]] in 1988 as Walt Disney Computer Software. It was reorganized into Disney Interactive in 1994, which then became Buena Vista Games from 2003 to 2007. BVG was renamed to Disney Interactive Studios in 2007. Disney has a rather complicated history of how it dealt with [[http://www.polygon.com/2016/8/18/12514296/disney-game-industry-history the video game industry.]]
9
10On May 10, 2016, following an earnings miss in their second-quarter financial results, Disney exited the video game publishing business, effectively shutting down a large portion of Disney Interactive Studios (their former sole major development studio, Avalanche Software, [[http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2017/01/warner_bros_resurrects_disney_infinity_studio_avalanche_for_cars_3_video_game was purchased]] by Creator/WarnerBrosInteractiveEntertainment eight months after Disney initially shut them down to create a ''Franchise/HarryPotter'' game) and leading to the end of the ''Disney Infinity'' franchise. Since then, Disney Interactive Studios exists solely as a video game licensing unit for Disney's properties (under the Disney Games banner), as well as managing Disney's classic archive of game software (such as licensing Creator/LucasArts games to Website/GOGDotCom).
