Allison Brooks Janney (born November 19, 1959) is an American film, television and theater actor best known for her role as White House Press Secretary/Chief of Staff Claudia Jean "C.J." Cregg on the critically acclaimed Creator/AaronSorkin drama ''Series/TheWestWing''. As the "Queen of the West Wing", she appeared in more episodes than any other character in show history, missing only one.

Janney brought home four [[MediaNotes/EmmyAward Emmy awards]] for her work on the show. Nominated almost every year - for Supporting Actress in 2000 and 2001, winning both, and Lead Actress in 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2006, winning in 2002 and 2004 - she brought home more Emmys than any other member of the cast, none of whom won more than once. She also won two Screen Actors' Guild awards (2001 and 2002) and was nominated for four [[MediaNotes/GoldenGlobeAward Golden Globes]] for the role.

Since ''Series/TheWestWing'''s finale, she has been very active in theatre, starring in the hit musical ''Film/NineToFive'' on Broadway and earning a MediaNotes/{{Tony|AwardWinners}} nomination in the process. She has also been a semi-regular on the silver screen throughout her career. Her other television credits include ''Series/{{Lost}}'', ''Series/GuidingLight'', ''Series/{{Weeds}}'', ''Series/LawAndOrder'', ''Series/InPlainSight'', ''WesternAnimation/PhineasAndFerb'', ''WesternAnimation/DuckTales2017'', and ''Series/{{Frasier}}''. Film credits include ''Film/TenThingsIHateAboutYou'', ''Film/AmericanBeauty'', ''Film/{{Juno}}'', ''Film/Hairspray2007'', ''WesternAnimation/FindingNemo'', ''Film/PrimaryColors'', ''Film/StruckByLightning'', ''Film/MissPeregrinesHomeForPeculiarChildren'', an MediaNotes/AcademyAward-winning turn in 2017's ''Film/ITonya'' as figure skater Tonya Harding's infamously abusive mother, and ''Film/{{The Creator|2023}}''.

Janney also starred on the Creator/ChuckLorre sitcom ''Series/{{Mom}}'' as Bonnie Plunkett and the Creator/{{Showtime}} drama ''Series/MastersOfSex'' as Margaret Scully, and won Emmys for both roles in 2014, leaving her just one shy of Creator/ClorisLeachman and Creator/JuliaLouisDreyfus's records of eight wins as a performer. On receiving the latter, she [[LiquidCourage thanked the crew member who gave her some bourbon before a sex scene]].

An honest six feet tall, she is indubitably a StatuesqueStunner.
