3Gary Peter Waldhorn, (3 July 1943 -- 10 January 2022), was a British actor best known for playing David Horton in ''Series/TheVicarOfDibley''.

5After graduating from the Yale School of Drama in 1967, where he performed in the new works written by Lillian Hellman. He went on to work in many West End theatre productions and collaborated with the Creator/RoyalShakespeareCompany.

7Waldhorn began appearing on TV in The70s, going on to make small appearances in ''Series/TheBill'', ''Series/BridesheadRevisited'', ''Series/{{Gallowglass}}'', ''Series/{{Heartbeat}}'', ''Series/{{Lovejoy}}'', ''Series/{{Minder}}'', ''Series/TheNewAvengers'', ''Series/TheProfessionals'', ''Series/RobinOfSherwood'', ''Series/RumpoleOfTheBailey'', ''Softly, Softly'', ''Series/Space1999'', and ''Series/TheSweeney''.

9He also played Lionel Bainbridge in ''Brush Strokes'' for the first three series. When Waldhorn left the series, [[ActorLeavesCharacterDies Lionel was killed off]]. In 1994, he was cast in the role he was best known for - the snobbish [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold David Horton]] in ''The Vicar of Dibley'' - and appeared in every episode.
