Talfryn Thomas, born John Talfryn Thomas, (31 October 1922 -- 4 November 1982), was a Welsh actor best known for playing Private Cheeseman in ''Series/DadsArmy''. He was nicknamed "Talf the Teeth" for his distinctive front teeth.

His first interest in acting came when he joined his local amateur dramatic society. He joined the RAF in UsefulNotes/WorldWarII, and was the sole survivor of a crash where the rest of his crew was killed. After the war, he went back into acting as a sort of therapy to cope with his trauma and trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.

Thomas acted in the theatre until the late [[The50s '50s]], when he started to appear on TV. In The60s, he appeared in many espionage, crime, and action series, including ''Series/TheAvengers1960s'', ''Series/TheSaint'', ''Series/TheChampions1968'', and ''Series/ThePersuaders''. In The70s, he appeared in ''Series/DoctorWho'' twice, in an episode of ''Series/WorzelGummidge'', and in ''Dad's Army''.

At first, he played a OneShotCharacter in Series 6, but after Creator/JamesBeck's tragic passing, he was [[AscendedExtra made a member of the platoon]]. Thomas' character, Private Cheeseman, [[CreatorBacklash was unpopular with cast and crew alike]] and was dropped from the series following Series 7.

In 1975, he appeared in the first few episodes of ''Series/SurvivorsBBC'' as Tom Price, who was KilledOffForReal in the tenth episode. He also had a small but memorable role in the AwfulBritishSexComedy ''Come Play with Me''. One of his final acting roles was in the ''Series/HiDeHi'' episode "Stripes", playing Gareth Davies, the half-brother of Chief Yellowcoat Gladys Pugh.
