->''"What's up, my corporeal friend? I am Whisper. At your service."''

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/TomokazuSeki (Japanese), Joey D'Auria (English, season 1-2, All Games), Michael Sorich (English, season 3-onwards), Mario De Candia (Latin American Spanish), Mattia Bressan (Italian), Creator/MartialLeMinoux (French)

A Yo-kai of the Slippery Tribe. He was released by Nate/Katie from a capsule machine in the woods one day, and who became their Yo-kai butler out of gratitude.
----
* AdaptationalWimp: In the games, he's usually the one who notices something odd and claims it might be a Yo-kai's fault. In the anime, he seems bizarrely adamant about things not being a Yo-kai's fault even though they pretty much always are. What makes this worse is that in the games, Whisper can sense potent Yo-kai aura, which his anime counterpart claims to (and doesn't) have.
* AdaptationPersonalityChange:
** The dub cranks up his immaturity, so that not only is he incompetent at his job, but also flamboyant and arrogant.
** In the manga, he's much more competent and keeps his vast knowledge of Yo-kai from the 1st game. He's still a ButtMonkey however.
* AscendedFanboy: He is a huge fan of the Classic Yo-kai, and is overjoyed to meet them in person.
* ArbitrarySkepticism: At the end of the first movie, Whisper states that humans becoming Yo-kai is very hard, even though a fair few Yo-kai in the series were humans who became Yo-kai fairly easily (eg. Manjimutt, Hungramps, and Dandoodle). [[spoiler: Even how Nate temporary became a Yo-kai was simply done.]]
* BattleButler: Adverted at first but later played straight in Yo-Kai Watch 3 where he can assist Nate in battles.
* ButtMonkey: The poster boy for this trope, ''especially'' in the manga. His job as a Yo-kai butler is always hanging by a thread, with Nate and Jibanyan all too eager to replace him when given the opportunity. No matter how hard he tries to hide it, everyone knows he [[KnowNothingKnowItAll knows nothing about Yo-kai]] and will remind him of this. In episode with Yoink, when Nate is to think of something impossible to borrow, he suggests borrowing popularity for Whisper, which Yoink accomplishes by stealing [[BreakoutCharacter Jibanyan's]] popularity and giving it to Whisper instead.
* TheChewToy: Obviously, sometimes getting himself into horrible accidents.
* DudeWheresMyRespect: Nate and Jibanyan don't treat him too well at all.
* DeadpanSnarker: He can be rather snarky, especially when Nate is acting up. The English dub upgrades Whisper's penchant for sarcasm.
* {{Deuteragonist}}: Shares this role with Jibanyan in the series, both being the most recurring Yo-kai throughout.
* DumbassHasAPoint: Even though he knows almost nothing about other Yo-kai, he's usually right in calling out Nate and Jibanyan for their stupid and morally wrong actions, like when Nate says Katie "looks terrible" after eating a huge sandwich, or Nate agreeing to let Wazzat erase the teacher's memory because Nate forgot to study for a test.
* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: Whisper sounds far more serious in the Japanese version of the first game. He also had his vast knowledge of Yo-kai, which was carried on to the next games and the manga, [[AdaptationalWimp but not in the anime.]]
* FeigningIntelligence: Frequently says that he knows everything about Yo-Kai, only to end up relying on the Yo-Kai wiki for most of his information. This is mostly a trait in the anime and the second games, as he was reasonably knowledgeable in the first game, despite being shown to make mistakes now and then. This is eventually revealed to be because he has an inferiority complex, and [[HiddenDepths just wants to be the best butler he can be for Nate]]. [[spoiler:He's also revealed to be a type of Yo-Kai called a Nonuttin, whose belches possess people so they feign intelligence.]]
* FourthWallObserver: Aside from his voice being heard giving the disclaimer at the beginning of every episode of the anime, he will sometimes [[BreakingTheFourthWall break the fourth wall]] in an episode and directly talk to the audience. Such as telling the viewer "Don't Try This At Home" in episode 11 after the credits, or explaining to the viewer what a parallel world is in Episode 67.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: Seems to be a case of DependingOnTheWriter, but there are instances where Nate and Jibanyan have no respect for him whatsoever and would be all to happy for him to be gone.
* HyperspaceMallet: He can produce his Yo-kai Pad from seemingly nowhere, even though he doesn't wear any clothes. In the "Noway" episode, it's revealed he keeps it inside his hollow head, which Nate is able to open up and take the pad out himself.
* IntangibleMan: Whisper is a stereotypical ghost-like Yo-kai, and gets the intangibility that comes with it. Although he can be touched, he can also phase through walls and floors if he chooses to.
* IronButtmonkey: He can get beaten up, cut in half, blown up, melted, and will still be floating around unharmed later. One time, Whisper's indestructibility is specifically brought up, where Komasan safely disposes of a bomb by having Whisper swallow it.
* IronicName: For someone named "Whisper" he sure shouts a ''lot''.
* TheKnightsWhoSaySquee: He's a massive fan of the Classic Yo-kai, and was {{Squee}}ing madly when he got to meet them.
* KnowNothingKnowItAll: Claims to have expertise on all things Yo-kai, but actually knows nothing and relies entirely on his Yo-Kai Pad for information. This trope, however, wasn't present for the most part in the first game.
* LargeHam: And how!
* LifeDrain: Absorption-attribute, as seen in ''Yo-kai Watch 3''.
* MrExposition: Whether it's from his little pad or something he actually knows, Whisper tends to explain how things work regarding the Yo-Kai World.
* MultipurposeTongue: It borderlines on being prehensile. Whisper uses it to clean things by licking it, including the Yo-kai Watch when its put in his mouth.
* MyGreatestFailure: His [[PowerIncontinence unintentional possession]] tarnished a child's reputation before leading him to a famous general, who by dumb luck had a successful military career prior to leading his army to their deaths in a hopeless battle. Whisper knew his success was by no merit of his own, but takes full responsibility for his death, so he changed his appearance and resolved to never use his power again.
* NoCelebritiesWereHarmed: When turned into [[Creator/BruceWillis "Bruce Willisper"]] and [[Creator/WillSmith "Will Smithsper"]].
** According to Joey D'Auria, [[https://twitter.com/JoeyDAuria/status/755845069668614146 he modeled Whisper's voice on Frank Nelson]].
* NonHumanSidekick: To Nate or Katie.
* NoodleIncident: The second movie implies the appearance of his lips, eyes and the color of his skin was inflicted as punishment for interfering in human affairs beyond inspiriting.
* NotSoAboveItAll: For a butler, he does some undignified things like flushing himself down a toilet to retrieve his Yo-Kai pad.
* OnlySaneMan: On occasion takes up this role if Nate is being inspirited or not behaving maturely.
* OurSpiritsAreDifferent: A KnowNothingKnowItAll butler.
* PromotedToPlayable: He's now playable to fight in ''Yo-kai Watch 3'', and he revealed to be from Slippery Tribe.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: Once played unwitting adviser to UsefulNotes/IshidaMitsunari, vassal of UsefulNotes/ToyotomiHideyoshi.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: He tries to be one, but Nate and Jibanyan don't respect him as an authority figure.
* SeriesMascot: The mascot of the main game and anime along with Jibanyan.
* SpeaksFluentAnimal: In the games anyway. If a cat or bird needs Nate/Katie to do a favor for them, Whisper translates what they are saying.
* StomachOfHolding:
** He can produce a Yo-Kai Medallion holder from inside his mouth, and it's covered in ectoplasm.
** In season 2, after Nate obtains the Yo-Kai Watch Type Zero and wears both watches, Whisper accidentally gets Nate's arm in his mouth and after doing so only one Yo-Kai Watch remains. From this point on, Nate needs to keep putting his arm in Whisper's mouth to switch watches.
* TookALevelInBadass: He can take part in fights in "Yo-kai Watch Blasters" and "Yo-Kai Watch 3". In Blasters he can even be the leader of the team if the player chooses so.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Ice Cream, as seen in ''Yo-kai Watch 3''.
* UndyingLoyalty: To Nate, though sometimes his loyalty really gets tested.
* UselessWithoutCellPhones: He doesn't know a thing about Yo-kai without his Yo-kai pad.
* VerbalTic: In the Japanese version he has a tendency to say "Whis".
* VitriolicBestBuds: Is this with Jibanyan, after the latter moves into Nate's house. The two are often at odds with each other, usually in the form of criticizing or arguing, though they do seem to be genuine friends.
* VocalEvolution: In the Japanese version, his voice becomes more high pitched and raspier in season 3.
* WholesomeCrossdresser: In the anime he is often seen wearing wigs and dresses, sometimes to mime things out or get his point across to Nate.

A nekomata of the Charming Tribe. He was once an ordinary cat who died and became a Yo-Kai after being hit by a car. He was bound to the crossroads he died at before coming to live at Nate's house (in the anime)/the protagonist's house (in the sequel games). Despite being friends, he is just as lazy as one would expect from a cat, and doesn't usually take action in situations unless he is properly motivated or interested.
----
* ADayInTheLimelight: Has had three so far, mainly centered around him.
* AbsurdlySharpClaws: In the games he can use his cat claws to scratch enemies.
* AmazingTechnicolorWildlife: Even back when he was a normal cat, he had red fur.
* ArtEvolution: Has the least amount of changes in ''Shadowside''. His head is slimmed down and he now has more realistic cat eyes.
* BadassAdorable: Extremely cute, but quite capable of combat.
* BakenekoAndNekomata: Jibanyan and most of his clone characters are based on nekomata. Jibanyan himself resembles the VengefulGhost version, but played more lightheartedly. He's also not as intelligent as most nekomata.
* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe: The reason why he befriends Nate.
* BreakoutCharacter: He's popular enough in Japan [[http://en.rocketnews24.com/2014/11/27/jibanyan-japan-chooses-you-pikachu-trampled-beneath-paws-of-youkai-watch-mascot/ to challenge Pikachu's throne]].
* ButtMonkey: Second to Whisper when it comes to getting beaten up. Whenever he's summoned first, it's usually to be the victim of the Yo-kai's abilities that Nate is fighting.
* TheChewToy: Though less often than Whisper, he would also be the victim to a situation, which would not end well for him.
* CatchPhrase: "I am a cat and I like it like that."
* CatsAreLazy: Jibanyan spends most of his time being a lazy freeloader. He actually seemed ''less'' lazy as a living cat.
* ClosetSublet: Often sleeps in Nate's closet, and is roommates with Hidabat.
* CuteKitten: He's an adorable cat Yo-kai.
%%* CuteLittleFangs
* CatsAreSnarky: Despite being laid-back, he also tends to snark quite a bit when Whisper or Nate are up to something or otherwise caught up in the situation.
* {{Deuteragonist}}: Is this with Whisper, as both are the most recurring Yo-kai characters in the series.
* DubNameChange: Averted as a Yo-kai, he's Jibanyan in both Japan and America; played straight as a normal cat where his Japanese name "Akamaru" is changed to "Rudy".
* EarNotch: Gained it during his death.
* FanBoy: Of a girl band called "Next Har[=MEOW=]ny", that dress in [[CatGirl cat outfits]].
* FusionDance: He has a number of fused forms in the game, including Thornyan (with Coughkoff), Baddinyan (with Roughraff), Buchinyan (with Whisper), and Jibakoma (with Komasan).
* GhostAmnesia: His memory of when he was alive is hazy, being unable to remember what his name was, or that [[spoiler:he sacrificed his life to save his previous owner, Amy. He also recalls her final words incorrectly making it sound like she was calling ''him'' "lame" after he died, when it was reserved for herself.]]
* HammerSpace: Can keep a large amount of items in his haramaki, usually chocobars and his Next Har[=MEOW=]ny magazines.
* HeavySleeper: Even back when he was alive, his memories consisted of him sleeping all the time. This carries on to his Yo-kai days, where Whisper comments Jibanyan typically gets 23 hours of sleep.
* HiddenDepths: Is revealed to be extremely knowledgeable about Yo-kai, in stark contrast to Whisper FeigningIntelligence and knowing next to nothing about Yo-kai. Nate even contemplates having Jibanyan as his Yo-kai Butler.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Can be selfish, rude, and lazy at times, but ultimately means well and will help out his friends when the time comes.
* LoyalAnimalCompanion: Was this back when he was a normal cat with Amy, [[spoiler:who was so loyal he gave his life to save her]]. He at times can be considered this with Nate as well, but to a lesser extent due to [[VitriolicBestBuds being at odds with each other at times]].
* MagikarpPower:
** Jibanyan is a D rank thus he's not very powerful in his first form, but when fused with other Yo-kai he can be quite an asset to your team. In ''Yo-Kai Watch 2'' he even gets a powerful variant called "Jibanyan S", possessing the high Rank S that Legendary/powerful Yo-kai have.
** Notably, in the first movie, [[spoiler: Buchinyan]] is depicted as being way stronger, [[spoiler:in spite of it being revealed to be just Whisper stuck on Jibanyan in later episodes, with Nate constantly pointing out that he doesn't even need Whisper's part of the fusion...]]
* MeaningfulName: His names when he was alive, Rudy in the west and Akamaru in Japan, both reference his red coat (Akamaru literally translating to "red boy," and Rudy being a letter away from ruby).
* MentalTimeTravel: Happens in "Jibanyan's Secret", where he is sent back in time and ends up in his own body back when he was alive.
* NoCelebritiesWereHarmed: As [[Creator/LeonardoDiCaprio "Leonyardo Decaprionyan"]].
* NonHumanSidekick: Serves as this to Nate, given he is the most frequently summoned Yo-kai.
* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: In [=WakuWaku=] Nyanderful Days, he has a crush on Katie and clings to her as much as possible. Even after just meeting her he [[http://pic5.taadd.com/comics/pic7/2/43650/721428/YoukaiWatchWakuwakuNyander10167.jpg creeps her out enough that she tries calling the police.]]
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: In the game "Jibanyan" is a name that other Yo-kai call him by, as he had forgotten his real name. But he ended up using it due to liking it. This isn't brought up in the anime though.
* OnlySaneMan: Though other than being a slacker and a lazy bum, he can be quite competent and intelligent, especially when sometimes coming up with better logic or when a Yo-kai is around.
* PerpetualSmiler: Mainly due to his default smile, which can be odd during moments when he's very angry or sad.
* PintSizedPowerhouse: Can beat up enemies much bigger than him, including Nate.
* PlayingWithFire: In the games he has fire based abilities, like all Nekomata.
* PowerGlows: In his powerful "Jibanyan S" form, he is accompanied by a scarlet colored aura.
* PrettyFreeloaders: Has made Nate's house his home in the anime and second games. Nate thinks of him as a pet, but Jibanyan insists he's an honored guest.
* RapidFireFisticuffs: His signature "Paws of Fury" attack consists of this.
* RecurringElement: His popularity has inspired a number of other "-nyan" suffixed nekomata characters. To the point of being a borderline FountainOfExpies. Other yo-kai with mascot status have followed suit, but nowhere near close to his extent.
* RidiculouslyCuteCritter: One of the more cute Yo-kai in the series.
* SelfDestructMechanism: ''Yo-kai Watch 2'' features his unlockable Soultimate Moves. One of them is "[[ShoutOut Ny]][[Manga/OsomatsuKun ext]]", which he explodes joke that damages enemies and allies alike.
* SeriesMascot: He's essentially the [[Franchise/{{Pokemon}} Pikachu]] of ''VideoGame/YokaiWatch''.
* SimplemindedWisdom: He has a very one track mind which only ever thinks about Chocobars and Next Harmeowny, but he is quite knowledgeable in Yo-Kai and can often shed insight when Whisper is unable to.
* TheSlacker: He's extremely lazy and often lies around refusing to help.
* SpotlightStealingSquad: Jibanyan appears in almost every episode, and early in the series was usually the first Yo-Kai that Nate thinks of summoning in battle, hence he is the most heavily featured Yo-kai other than Whisper. He later gets even more focus when he decides to move into Nate's house, appearing even when Nate isn't battling Yo-kai.
* SternTeacher: As Mr. Crabbycat, he's very strict in disciplining his students.
* SweetTooth: An extreme addiction to chocolate.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Chocolate bars... despite cats being unable to eat chocolate. Of course, he ''is'' already dead.
* TooDumbToLive: If he wasn't already dead, he would have died many times over by now. Prior to moving in with Nate, he would try to attack cars and always end up getting hit and injured.
* {{Troll}}: When he moves into Nate's house, he proves to be a terrible roommate and often risked blowing his cover as a Yo-kai. Whenever Nate or Whisper criticize him, he would feign being unable to hear them by singing a childish song, until Nate would lose his temper and hit him away using a fan.
* UndyingLoyalty: To Ami and later Nate. To Ami because he [[spoiler:[[HeroicSacrifice literally gives his life for her]]]] and still remembers her fondly despite the fact that his GhostAmnesia painted a very damning picture of her, and to Nate because he quickly becomes like a brother to him. When in ''Mindspecter'' the characters get their memories erased, just a quick flashback is all that Jibanyan needs to move in with him and it's made apparent that he would make a similar sacrifice for Nate as well.
* VerbalTic: In the Japanese version, he ends his sentences with "-nya". In the English version, he replaces the N's in words with "nya" (see NoCelebritiesWereHarmed above for an example).
* VitriolicBestBuds:
** He and Nate had shades of this early on, with Jibanyan being tired of Nate's bossiness and Nate annoyed by Jibanyan's laziness and his tendency to being a pest. However their relationship improves drastically in season 2 and usually always get along.
** After moving into Nate's house, Jibanyan seems to have become this with Whisper with the two constantly bickering.

A 'Merican Yo-kai of the Shady Tribe that appears to be a rabbit in a spacesuit, complete with ears. [[spoiler:He's actually an otter.]] When he was alive, he was to be used as a test subject in a new spacefaring rocket, but he escaped from his cage and destroyed it, ruining his owner Dr. Hughley's chances at starting a new age of space exploration. He tricks Hailey into buying a Yo-kai Watch U Prototype and he convinces her to help him make a new rocket to impress Dr. Hughley. Afterwards, the two open a detective agency to investigate Yo-kai crimes. Once that well dried up, US[=Apyon=] begins following Hailey to school, where he learns her class is a hotbed of Yo-kai trying to inspirit them. Key word being ''try''.
----
* AdvertisedExtra: In the localization of VideoGame/YokaiWatchWibbleWobble, as the third wasn't released at the time and appears in the intro.
* AnIcePerson: Ice-attribute.
* BerserkButton: Hailey goofing off, going off topic, or getting distracted from the task at hand. If this happens, he'll press the "Invader Mode" buttons on his helmet, pull out his ray gun, and well... Go berserk.
* DeepSouth: Has a Southern accent in the English version, meant to reflect his status as a 'Merican Yo-kai.
* DudeWheresMyRespect: A RunningGag is that US[=Apyon=]'s guesses as to locations or culprits tend to be wrong. In one episode, it turns out there were ''two'' right answers (Two of the suspect Yo-kai were collaborating) and US[=Apyon=] correctly identified one of them. He's still treated as though he was wrong.
* MoonRabbit: The theme of his design, as a "space-faring rabbit". [[spoiler:Even though he's not really a rabbit at all.]]
* OnlySaneMan: Consider how Hailey acts in the Detective Agency segments (especially when she tried to cook Peckpocket) while Whapir is either indifferent or goes along with Hailey's antics.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Gains a menacing pair of these whenever he goes into Invader Mode. They're the only things visible in his helmet when it fills up with darkness.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Donuts.
* VerbalTic:
** In the Japanese version, he ends his sentences with "Dani".
** In the English version, he ends his sentences with "missy" when referring to Hailey Anne.

A little Komainu of the Charming Tribe. He spent a lot of his time sitting around a shrine with a dog statue on the premises in the countryside. When the shrine was torn down, he tried to move to the city, befriending Nate, finding his brother Komajiro, and making a life for himself in the city.
----
* AmazingTechnicolorPopulation: In his human form, he still retains his pale white skin. Which can makes him unique looking to the other humans he encounters.
* AdorablyPrecociousChild: His human form.
* AdaptationalWimp: While Komasan is a relatively weak Yo-kai in the games, he is at least capable of combat. In the anime, he doesn't appear to be capable of any form of defense or combat skill, and only manages to survive through pure luck. Nate scarcely ever summons him for battle, and when he does it's always for [[BadassPacifist non-violent uses like negotiation]]. Though the movie does show him using his Soultimate Spirit Dance against Dame Dedtime's giant form.
* AdaptationalVillainy: InUniverse, after he reveals his Yo-kai form to the comic book writer, she puts him in a central role in her manga... as the BigBad of a horror story.
* ApologizesALot: Komasan is prone to apologizing whenever he makes a mistake or causes a problem. Sometimes he'll apologize when it's no fault of his own.
* AlmightyJanitor: Komasan starts off working as a janitor for a toy company in "Komasan: Movin' On Up", but is [[HiddenDepths so full of ideas]] ([[AchievementsInIgnorance albeit unintentionally]]) that he continuously gets promoted, until finally he is the President. Also the fact that he's actually a Yo-kai in disguise counts to this trope too.
* AmbiguousSituation: While most Yo-kai started off as ordinary living creatures that died or as ordinary inanimate objects, Komasan and Komajiro have a mother which implies they were born as Yo-kai.
* ArtEvolution: He has the most radical redesign in ''Shadowside''. For one ''he now looks like a dog'', and his Shadow form actually looks like the Shrine Dogs they're based on.
* AttentionDeficitOohShiny: Komasan is revealed to have a very short attention span, being distracted by everything. This quirk of his is used to beat Poofessor, who is an InsufferableGenius who [[ItsAllAboutMe loves having others listen to him]]
* BarrierWarrior: Has a skill called "Fire Wall" that protects himself and his team from fire based attacks.
* BashBrothers: With Komajiro. His ability, Alpha, increases his power when paired with the Omega ability, which Komajiro/Komiger has.
* BerserkButton:
** Don't pick on Komajiro.
** Don't insult the country.
* BewareTheNiceOnes:
** In the episode "Komasan In The City: DJKJ", Komasan becomes angered when Komajiro is picked on by some nightclubbers and comes to his defense. He ends up giving the bullies a beating through complete dumb luck.
** When he gets possessed by Irewig, whose ability is to make others angry at every little thing, Komasan is rather scary and angry at a bunch of birds because one of them pooped on him. He starts frantically building bird houses, and forces Nate, Jibanyan, Whisper, and even Irewig to help him.
** During a Christmas segment, he scolds Komajiro for using a taxi since its not Santa-like.
* BigBrotherInstinct: Very protective of Komajiro, even when he's the one who needs help.
* BigBrotherMentor: Played with. Komajiro does look up to him, but for the most it is Komajiro who is far more competent than Komasan.
* BreakoutCharacter: One of the most popular characters in the franchise, sometimes rivaling or even surpassing Jibanyan. This has been acknowledged by the creators with his heavy focus in spin-off games like ''Yo-kai Watch Busters'' and ''Yo-kai Three Kingdoms''.
* BookDumb: In regards to anything about the city and modern technology. Best shown in the "Komasan in the City" episodes, where as part of a RunningGag Komasan would come up with a nickname for an unexplained phenomena, like calling cell phones "ear warmers" or the glass floor of the lookout tower a "magic floor".
* BornLucky: Komasan might just be the single luckiest character in the show. Despite [[AchievementInIgnorance knowing nothing about a job]], he will always manage to succeed spectacularly at it through dumb luck, with everyone giving him credit. He managed to come up with toy ideas for a company by accident and kept getting promoted until he was President. He also solves many cases as a cop without even being aware of what his actions would result in; such as finding a bomb hidden in an ice-cream because he wanted to eat it.
* BuddyCopShow: The "Springdale Five-Yo" segments have vibes of this.
* CatchPhrase: "''Oh my swirls!''" ("''Monge!''" in the Japanese version) whenever he is amazed or surprised at something.
* CartoonCreature: He's supposed to be a lion-dog, but looks like a mix between a cat and a baby panda.
** This may be due to him being a cub and hasn't grown his mane yet.
* CharacterDevelopment: Later episodes have him a lot more confident, compared to his debut where he would exclaim "OH MY SWIRLS!" at everything.
* CrushBlush: In his human form, he starts blushing where the two red swirls on his cheeks are located. While it's LuminescentBlush in his Yo-kai form.
* CountryMouse: A perfect example of this trope, being a country bumpkin with no concept of the city whatsoever.
* DeepSouth: The dub gives him a Southern country accent along with Komajiro.
* {{Deuteragonist}}: After his introductory episode where he met Nate, Komasan would go on to receive his own segments in every episode, called "Komasan (Mini Corner)", that occurred separately to Nate and Whisper. [[note]]"Komasan in the City" (focusing on Komasan adjusting to city life after reuniting with his brother Komajiro), "Komasan: Movin' on Up" (Komasan finding work in a toy company and constantly getting promoted), "Komasan in Love" (Komasan developing a crush on a manga artist in a cafe shop), "Springdale Five-Yo" (working with Whisper as police officers), "Komasan's Expedition Team!", "Let's Go with Komasan", "Komasan Taxi" (Komasan running a cab service for Yo-kai), and "Dog of the North Star".[[/note]]
* DoesNotLikeSpam: Juice.
* FeigningIntelligence: Tries to teach Komajiro about how the city works, despite being a country bumpkin who barely knows how it works himself.
* FlamingHair: While he doesn't have hair on his head, he does have blue, fiery pointy eyebrows.
* {{Foil}}: To Manjimutt. As they're both dog-based Yo-kai who star in "Mini Corner" segments during each episode, with both trying out a variety of different jobs. However, while Manjimutt is the [[BornUnlucky most unfortunate character]] who [[FailureIsTheOnlyOption fails spectacularly]] at everything, Komasan is always [[BornLucky ridiculously lucky]] and keeps [[AchievementInIgnorance succeeding by accident]]. Furthermore, while Manjimutt is [[ButtMonkey heavily disliked in-universe]], Komasan has accumulated a lot of respect due to his accomplishments.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: Komasan often gets worried about what's gonna happen to Komajiro, which makes him the responsible sibling to Komajiro's foolish sibling.
** [[BettyAndVeronicaSwitch Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling Switch]]: Although, whenever Komasan gets scared easily, he's clearly the foolish sibling to Komajiro's responsible sibling due to Komasan getting nervous and worried easily.
* FriendlessBackground: Spent all of his time at the shrine through the various seasons, with only the occasional festival to interact with people. When he's forced out of his home, this quickly changes for the better when he explores the city and befriends Nate.
* GagCensor: Komasan's head is used to censor certain scenes.
* GoshDangItToHeck: Komasan tends to use "tarnation" in place of cuss words.
* HiddenDepths: Whether he realizes it or not, he has good business instincts, and eventually manages to run a company while the boss is away.
* HighPressureEmotion: His entire body turns pink after he gets a surprise hug from a female comic book writer after she learns that Yo-kai are real after he removes his magic leaf which turns him back into his Yo-kai form.
* IconicItem: The green pouch with white swirls he carries on his back.
* IdiotHoudini: His constant promotions while working at a toy company by indirectly giving the president ideas that are popular with the public, to arresting criminals in the ''Springdale Five-Yo'' series by luck, or annoying the criminals into admitting their crimes.
* InterspeciesRomance: Falls in love with a struggling human manga artist while in the city.
* {{Leitmotif}}: A [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_HTSdoubeg slow paced melody]] that plays in the "Komasan in the City" segments.
* LightningFireJuxtaposition: Komasan is fire to Komajiro's lightning.
* LiteralMinded: When Whisper tells Komasan to "stretch out the conversation" with the criminal on the phone, he interprets this as talking ''very slowly''.
* LuminescentBlush: Whenever he blushes out of shyness or embarrassment, a blush mark would show up between his eyes in Yo-kai form while in his human form it shows up on his two red swirls located on his cheeks.
* MagicDance: His Soultimate move is the "Spirit Dance", which summons hitodama as fireballs.
* MagikarpPower: Much like Jibanyan, Komasan starts off not very strong due to being D rank but can gain more powerful forms. Fusing him with a Swirly Soul or by evolving him will turn him into the more powerful "Komane" who is A rank. He also has the more powerful "Komasan A" form, which when fused with regular Komasan will result in "Komasan S", the rank that Legendary Yo-kai possess.
* TheMirrorShowsYourTrueSelf: When Komasan disguises himself as a human using his leaf, his reflection shows his true form.
* MistakenForBadass: Unintentionally beats three hooligans when they pick on Komajiro in a club where he works as DJ, and they flee the moment they see him again.
* NervousWreck: He acts like this in his first few episodes that he appeared in until he becomes a president for a toy company.
* NewJobsAsThePlotDemands: Like Manjimutt, Komasan has had an assortment of jobs over the course of the series.
* NoIndoorVoice: Sometimes unintentional, but the easily excitable Komasan has a habit of yelling out "OH MY SWIRLS", attracting the attention of anyone who is capable of hearing him (as not everyone can due to him being a Yo-kai).
* NonActionGuy: His portrayal in the anime makes him one, almost never resorting to violence except on some rare accidental instances.
* OlderThanTheyLook: Komasan could be mistaken for a child under the age of 10, but he had met the manga artist he fell in love with (at least in her twenties) back when she was a young girl. A much later episode reveals he and Komajiro are actually ''over three centuries old''.
* OldSaveBonus: Of a sort. To get him in [=YW2=], you need a copy of the first game to take a picture in the last two hours, save it to your SD Card, and hand it over to an NPC that will give you a special Crank-a-Kai coin that you use to get him.
* PerpetualFrowner: His default expression, he does start smiling more in later episodes and official artwork.
* PlayingWithFire: He is a fire-attribute Yo-kai, who's primary attacks involving setting the enemy on fire. In addition, his Soultimate move, the "Spirit Dance", has him summoning fiery will-o'-the-wisps at the enemy.
* PowerGlows: His powerful "Komasan S" form gives off a blue aura.
* RedOniBlueOni: His shy, cautious nature makes him the blue oni to Komajiro's red.
** This role gets switched in "Komasan in the City: The Magic Floor", where Komasan is the one who acts uncontrollably excited while Komajiro is the calmer mature one.
* RidiculouslyCuteCritter: Enough to rival Jibanyan. He even lampshades this in the ending of episode 26 as he's narrating about his experience with the girl while drinking coffee alone.
--> '''Komasan''': Don't she know I'm cute as a button?
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: He and Komajiro deliver these to Yo-kai responsible for various infamous scenes from the anime in the skit series "Komasan Taxi", which includes reading real complaints sent in by actual parents. Unlike most examples of this trope, they deliver them in a kindhearted way while making the Yo-kai understand their wrong doing.
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: While he and his brother Komajiro are both sensitive characters. Komasan is the most sensitive from getting scared easily and amazed at new stuff while his brother on the other hand is a lot more calm and is adjusting to the city life and can even be seen learning how to use a Tablet. He and Komajiro are basically the reverse Mario and Luigi when it comes to their ages.
* SeriesMascot: Alongside Jibanyan and Whisper.
* ShapeShifter: The Yo-kai leaves he and Komajiro wear on their heads are able to give them human forms, though it's not made explicitly clear if they physically transform or whether it's just an illusion that makes them look human.
* ShrinkingViolet: He starts out like this in the anime but starts growing out of this as episodes go on. But he does get nervous very easily.
* SiblingYinYang: Komasan is shy and taken aback by the city, while Komajiro is curious and embraces all the city has to offer.
* SpotlightStealingSquad: One of the most prominent Yo-Kai, alongside Whisper, Jibanyan, and Manjimutt. Since his debut in episode 7, Komasan appeared in every consecutive episode until "Springdale Five-Yo" ended where he had a short absence. Most episodes feature his own segment at the start or end, see {{Deuteragonist}} above. Even episodes that don't feature a Komasan (Mini Corner), will have him cameo somewhere.
* ThoseTwoGuys:
** With Komajiro for most of the season 1.
** In season 2, the "Springdale Five-Yo" segments have him paired up with Whisper.
* TooDumbToFool: He was too naive to fall for most of the special effects in the "Kaptain Komasan" show segments, but not smart enough to figure out the stunts were all fake.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Soft-serve ice cream. In the first game, it's milk.
** Milk is also Komajiro's favorite food.
* TransformationTrinket: He uses a Yo-kai leaf, similar to what a tanuki uses.
* UnusuallyUninterestingSight: Even those who can see Komasan for what he is don't seem to find it odd that he's a talking cat-panda creature (with the exception of the manga artist). This even extends to when he isn't wearing a Yo-kai leaf, which allegedly made humans think he was one of them.
* VerbalTic: Tends to add "y'all" to the end of his sentences (Zura in the Japanese version.)
* VocalDissonance: Is supposed to be a boy and Komajiro's older brother, but his voice is higher than Komajiro's and sounds effeminate.
** In the German dub, he along with Jibanyan and Komajiro are all voiced by grown men.
* VocalEvolution: His voice gets higher-pitched in the second season of the dub.
* VagueAge: Komasan's age is a mystery. He's older than Komajiro, met an adult manga artist back when she was a child (around a decade before the series), and old enough to get a full time job. Yet his behavior and the physical appearance of his human form makes him seem like he's between the age of 9 - 12. It's later revealed that both he and Komajiro are over three centuries old.
* WingdingEyes: Komasan's eyes would sometimes change into sparkles or stars when he gets amazed or surprised by certain things.

Komasan's half-brother, also a komainu from the Charming Tribe. He followed him from the shrine he stayed at in the country to live in the city. Unlike his brother, he adapts very well to his new surroundings, though he still looks up to his big brother for guidance.
----

* AmazingTechnicolorPopulation: Komajiro keeps his orange colored skin when he's in human form.
* AdorablyPrecociousChild: His human form.
* BashBrothers: With Komasan. His ability, Omega, increases his power when paired with Alpha, which Komasan/Komane has.
* CatchPhrase: "Oh my Swirls" which he shares with Komasan. However he doesn't say that phrase as much as Komasan however.
* ChickMagnet: When he was a DJ at a dance party. He appears to be attracting some older ladies and acts chill most of the time. Until one adult starts making fun of him and his brother for being a "country bumpkin" and calling them a Hillbilly.
* EasilyImpressed: At first Komajiro plays this straight as he's awestruck by all the wonders of the city. But then Komajiro gradually becomes more city savvy than his own brother. Things revert when he sees a shooting star though.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: His energetic nature makes him the foolish sibling to Komasan's responsible sibling. Later on, this gets reversed.
** [[BettyAndVeronicaSwitch Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling Switch]]: However, in terms of personality, Komajiro is the StraightMan responsible sibling who's more calm, level-headed and sensible to Komasan's foolish sibling.
* InterspeciesRomance: Has one with the daughter of the boss of his brother's toy company job.
* LightningFireJuxtaposition: Komajiro is lightning to Komasan's fire.
* OlderThanTheyLook: Like his brother, he is about 300 years old, despite looking very young in both his normal and human forms.
* OnlySaneMan: Of the two brothers, at least.
* PaletteSwap: His character design is basically Komasan but more brown.
* PhoneaholicTeenager: To an extent. Early on Komajiro is scarcely seen without his cell phone, loving to chat on it or searching up info.
* RedOniBlueOni: His outgoing, inquisitive nature makes him the red to Komasan's blue.
* RidiculouslyCuteCritter: Much like Komasan.
* ShapeShifter: He along with his brother Komasan are able to shape shift into humans with the leaves that they wear on their heads.
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: Komajiro might not fit the manly man type. He's a lot more calmer and adjusts to new life in the city unlike his brother. Komajiro would sometimes help his brother with certain tasks such as trying to help Komasan's relationship with a beautiful lady by giving some love advice.
* SatelliteCharacter: Komajiro is really only there to be "Komasan's brother", and is rarely ever his own character.
* SeenItAll: Komajiro gets so used to the city that he isn't impressed by anything in Excellent Tower that Komasan shows him. Komasan pointing out a shooting star fixes that, though.
%%* ShockAndAwe
%%* SiblingYinYang
* TotallyRadical: When he becomes a DJ at a dance club. Komajiro starts talking by using slang from the 1990's much to the confusion of Komasan.
* ThoseTwoGuys: With Komasan.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Milk, and as of ''3'' onwards, Ice Cream.
* VagueAge: While he is the youngest brothers to Komasan. It's difficult to tell what age he is which isn't helped by his brother's sensitivity. Doesn't help that his human form appears to be around the age of between 9 - 12 years old yet he and his brother are able to live on their own and travel.
* WiseBeyondTheirYears: While Komajiro isn't the wisest. He is a lot more knowledgeable and is more level-headed than Komasan. This might be due to Komasan being his big brother and Komasan is mostly nervous and worried most of the time while Komajiro is younger than him but acts more relaxed.

--> '''Voiced by:''' Ryoko Nagata (Japanese), Creator/MelissaHutchison (English, season 1-2), Creator/RebaBuhr (English, Season 3), Elda Olivieri (Italian)

A bat Yo-kai of the Shady Tribe. Hidabat is afraid of outdoors and would rather spend his whole life in Nate's closet. Because of this, his business skills are incredible. He's the second richest Yo-kai, only losing to Steve Jaws, owns "Yo-zon", and is friends with Mark Shachiberg, Steve Jaws' replacement as the "Yopple" president.
----
* BiggerOnTheInside: He's furnished Nate's closet to include computer servers and a shower.
* BlowYouAway: Wind-attribute.
* ClosetSublet: He hardly ever comes out of Nate's closet and if he has to leave, he takes the closet with him.
** ElaborateUndergroundBase: It's implied he uses his wealth to fund the development massive collection of closets underneath Nate's house in search of a comfortable place to live. He loans one of them to Necolumbus and it's a massive loft.
* FusionDance:
** Can be fused with Tengloom to create Abodabat.
** ''Yo-kai Watch 2'' makes Hidabat the necessary ingredient to help Wydeawake evolve into Allnyta. However in ''Yo-kai Watch 3'', Tengloom is the ingredient instead of Hidabat.
* {{Hikikomori}}: His motif. His Japanese name is a pun on this and the word for "bat", his wings look like he's huddling a blanket over his body, and he inflicts people with this when he inspirits them.
* NiceGuy: When he's given a Yo-kai Watch U prototype from Mark Shachiberg, he gives it to Nate as thanks for letting him live in his closet (keep in mind that as prototypes, they can't be bought yet and very few people/Yo-kai have them), helped Nate and Jibanyan shop online for a new Yo-kai pad when Whisper flushes the old one down a toilet, and gets Nate an autographed jersey and cleats from a soccer player.

[[folder:Kyubi (Kyuubi)]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/RyokoNagata (Japanese), Creator/MelissaHutchison (English), Cinzia Massironi (Italian)
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kyubi.png]]
A {{Bishonen}} Nine-tailed kitsune of the Mysterious Tribe. His goal is to figuratively steal the hearts of women with his charm. He decides to try and charm Katie, which inadvertently causes him to fall for her. One of the few Yo-kai that can be seen, Kyubi dons the guise of a young man in public. He returns very frequently during the show's run.
----
* AbortedArc: His obsession to win Katie's heart only lasts for two episodes without any resolution.
* AccidentalMisnaming: Katie mistakes his name for "QB" or "Kyuuri" (quarterback and cucumber). Nate mistakes it for "Cutie."
* AdaptationPersonalityChange: The Kyubi of the first game and the Kyubi in the anime have two '''vastly''' different personalities. In the game he's the guardian spirit of Flower Road who manipulates Nate and friends into fighting Massiface. A bit of a territorial ManipulativeBastard.
* AsianFoxSpirit: Literally his species.
* BadBadActing: Despite all of his bravado and grace, he's a ''terrible'' actor when cast for a movie.
* BaitAndSwitchSentiment: He falls victim to it time and time again in "Kyubi:Operation Heartbreak." Each time Katie gives the look that signifies his powers are working, she turns out to be referring to something else.
* ButtMonkey: He becomes a victim of this in his first two appearances.
* ColorContrast: Kyubi has a gold/purple color scheme.
* {{Foil}}: To Venoct in ''Yo-kai Watch 2''.
* FourthWallObserver: In the anime he regularly breaks the fourth wall and talks to the audience, such as when explaining the Suspension Bridge Effect.
* GlamourFailure: Kyubi finds parts of himself transforming back into his Yo-kai form whenever he gets embarrassed or scared.
* GuideDangIt: In order to recruit him, you need to complete three particular post-game quests, then visit him at the school rooftop at night for a fourth quest, which involves getting Golden Tofu (obtained from Mama Aura in the Infinite Inferno), and take it to the shrine during the festival. Where to find Kyubi to start the quest and where to get the Golden Tofu are not hinted at in the game.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: When trying to use the Suspension Bridge Effect on Katie, it backfires and becomes a victim of this.
* InvisibleToNormals: Somewhat an odd example. When he accidentally transformed back to his normal self at the haunted house attraction, the people pretending as the zombies reacted like he's there (somewhat a similar level to Majimutt and Dandoole). But when he interacts with Nate, no one reacts about him.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Starts off pursuing for Katie's affection simply to raise his rank, and only seeing it as a challenge and acting rather smug, but after their first meeting, it's apparent that he has gained an actual crush on her.
* MythicalMotifs: When as a human, his hair is based on his real self (the two strands represent his ears, while the nine are his tails).
* PlayingWithFire: Fire-attribute.
* PrettyBoy: All the girls notice him, except [[ObliviousToLove Katie]].
* RealMenWearPink: His body shape, voice, and behavior are rather feminine, but he is a strong Yo-kai nonetheless, and steals the hearts of women all the same.
* RedHerring: When he first appears in the "Kyubi the Bully" quest it looks like he's going to be the boss, especially after he tells Nate and his friends to meet him at the construction site at night. But when they get there he just insults them a bit, tells them it was actually Massiface who started the fires on Flower Road and leaves so they can fight the giant Yo-kai for him.
* RememberTheNewGuy: An [[InvertedTrope inverted]] example. In episode 31, while the viewers have seen Kyubi before, Nate and the gang have never met or even heard of him. Kyubi gets flustered by this and forces his medal onto Nate.
** This is somewhat a mess as they both interacted in the recap (that is, if you count them). Though this can be HandWave as Nate seems to forget about Kyubi in episode 32.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: In the first game, it was seafood, but from Yo-kai Watch 2 onwards, it's oden stew.
* UnknownRival: His advances on Katie go unnoticed by Nate, and similarly, Kyubi doesn't know Nate has a crush on Katie, making for a strange LoveTriangle.
* VocalDissonance: Despite being a {{Bishonen}} kitsune, Kyubi sounds like a prepubescent boy and is actually voiced by a female.

[[folder:Manjimutt (Jinmenken)]]
[[quoteright:150:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/imgres1.jpg]]
->''"Doggone it!"''

->'''Voiced by:''' Naoki Bandou (Japanese), Paul Greenberg (English), Javier Gómez (Latin American Spanish), Diego Sabre (Italian)
A human-faced dog from the Eerie Tribe. Manjimutt was a salaryman who got fired due to downsizing after years of working for his company. After getting drunk and getting crushed under wooden planks with a toy poodle, he became a Yo-kai. Unlike most Yo-kai, he can be seen without a Yo-kai Watch, meaning he's a very powerful Yo-kai. However, his canine tendencies and creepy appearance tend to attract the attention of the local police.
----
* AdaptationalBadass: He's only a Rank E Yo-kai in the games (the lowest rank of all), but in the anime he's fairly competent at hand-to-hand combat, matching Roughraff from the Tough Tribe.
* AlcoholicParent: Mainly what caused his life before becoming Manjimutt. Though this was toned down outside of Japan.
* BeastWithAHumanFace: Literally a human-faced dog.
* BlessedWithSuck: On one hand, the fact that he's not InvisibleToNormals means he's actually a very powerful Yo-kai. On the other hand, this fact has also caused him endless misery.
* ButtMonkey: By far the most unfortunate character in the series, both while he was alive and as a Yo-kai. Due to his dog tendencies, he suffers from multiple arrests. As most people assume that he's a deformed person, his luck while he is trying to get out of Alcatraz is even worse.
* CasanovaWannabe: He works at a bunch of different jobs to try and impress the ladies, but they all think he's creepy and ugly-looking.
* CatchPhrase: "Doggone it!"
* CoolOldGuy: Or middle-aged, anyway.
* CosmicPlaything: The Yo-kai Watch gods seem to go out of their way to make Manjimutt's life/afterlife as miserable as possible. Every one of his attempts to reach his dream of being appreciated by women always fail, and he gets repeatedly arrested, sometimes for the most petty of reasons.
* CowardlyLion: When called to deal with Roughraff, he [[ItMakesSenseInContext still has to be released from his prison cell's door.]] When he sees Roughraff, he immediately goes back in until Nate states that he's the only adult he can go to for this situation, motivating him to beat and befriend the Yo-kai.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: If his confrontation with Roughraff is any indication (on top of the fact that, as mentioned above, the fact that he's not InvisibleToNormals).
* DemotedToExtra: At one stage he was the most prominent Yo-kai outside of Whisper and Jibanyan, where he'd be given his own mini-corner segment in each episode. But then, [[BreakoutCharacter Komasan]] showed up, who got his own mini-corners which would coincide and later completely replace Manjimutt's segments. After going OutOfFocus, Manjimutt would return as a reoccurring character, but without the prominent focus he initially had.
* {{Deuteragonist}}: After his introduction, Manjimutt began having his own segments in each episode, which were separate from Nate and Whisper. First he had one simply titled "Manjimutt" Part 1/2 .etc, which focused on him trying to find a new job to score with the ladies, but usually ends up being arrested. Later on, this gets replaced with another segment called "Manjimutt: The Great Dog Escape" where he is incarcerated in Alcatraz and focuses on him trying to escape.
* DirtyOldMan: He took pictures of a lady's cleavage when he was a photographer, made a vase in the shape of a busty woman when he was doing pottery, and constantly fantasizes young ladies being attracted to him.
* DisabilityImmunity:
** In a way, Manjimutt was immune to Wazzat's inspiritment, as Manjimutt's memories are so depressing they taste foul to Wazzat.
** Manjimutt's ugliness makes him immune to Yo-kai Shmoopie, whose inspiritment makes the victim put on an irresistible cute face. Manjimutt's cute face remains repulsive to others.
** Manjimutt was also immune to Supoor Hero's inspiritment, who makes victims poor and unlucky. As Manjimutt is already at the maximum level of poverty, Supoor Hero had no effect on him.
* TheDreaded: Anyone who encounters him for the first time is utterly terrified.
* TheEeyore: Prior to meeting Nate, he spent every moment wallowing in self-pity over his misfortune which dated back to when he was alive. While befriending Nate did improve his self-esteem and made him more ambitious, he still remains very melancholic.
* FusionDance: The human salaryman merged with a toy poodle that shared his demise, to form Manjimutt.
** In the first game, Manjimutt can fuse with another Manjimutt to create Multimutt. This was dropped afterwards, where you need to evolve Manjimutt.
* HiddenDepths: He does some surprisingly-sick breakdancing during his summoning sequence.
* ImagineSpot: He imagined Nate was evil in the first episode of "The Great (Dog) Escape"
* InvisibleToNormals: Averted. He's one of the few Yo-kai who can be seen by mortals unaided.
* LeftHanging: What happened to him between the last "The Great (Dog) Escape" and episode 32 is never explained.
* LovableCoward: Early in the series he was very cowardly and refused to fight Roughraff, though he does seem to get bolder (and dirtier) over time.
* TheMindIsAPlaythingOfTheBody: He often succumbs to his dog instincts, which is sometimes signified by his face turning into an actual dog's.
* NewJobsAsThePlotDemands: As part of a RunningGag, in season one he would be shown getting a new job almost every episode, all of which end in him behind bars.
* NeverMyFault: Manjimutt blames Nate for how he got into Alcatraz, as he keeps summoning him for certain problems, even though some of the arrests were caused by himself at times, regardless if Nate is involved or not. While you can understand why Manjimutt is upset, Nate didn't really know what other options he can deal with the Yo-kai that's causing the problem.[[note]]Keep in mind, this was early in the show's run, as Nate only made a few Yo-kai friends.[[/note]]
* NoSell: He's completely immune to Supoor Hero's effects because he's already completely poor. [[CursedWithAwesome He's not happy about it]].
* OurWerewolvesAreDifferent: Manjimutts in general are able to turn other people into Manjimutts by biting them. While this is an InformedAbility in the anime, Manjimutt's story in the manga revolves around it.
* OutOfFocus: Near the anime's beginning, Manjimutt had many parts of the show centered on his efforts to get a job, and later trying to get out of prison. As more Yo-kai are introduced, more stories can be made and Manjimutt slowly got less attention (he's even replaced by one of Jibanyan's variants in the credits song sequence). On a meta-level, Nate used to be waiting outside every time Manjimutt was released from prison, only to [[TearJerker suddenly not be waiting for his release any more, as other Yo-kai make themselves prominent in his life.]] He disappears altogether after "Manjimutt: The Great (Dog) Escape" and doesn't return for a very long time. This is later revealed in the skit series "Komasan Taxi" to be because viewers and parents saw a lot of his antics, such as lusting over a woman-shaped pot or in general showing an attraction to young girls, to be inappropriate.
* PaperThinDisguise: In the [[NewJobsAsThePlotDemands various jobs he picks up]], he often dons a wig or an article of clothing to cover up the fact he's a human-faced dog Yo-kai. It usually works for a while.
* PlayingWithFire: Fire-attribute.
* PunnyName: The way his name is pronounced makes it sound like mangy mutt.
* SanitySlippage: One of the "The Great (Dog) Escape" segments involves he receives a stuffed bear named Sam, and hallucinates it being able to walk and talk, and becoming his only friend. Adding to the weirdness of it all, Sam sounds just like Nate (due to being voiced by Creator/JohnnyYongBosch), who previously was his only friend.
* ScarsAreForever: The drunk blushes he had when he died remained on his Yo-kai form.
* SpotlightStealingSquad: Manjimutt is one of the most focused on Yo-kai in the series, after Whisper and Jibanyan, often having his own individual segments in each episode, including "Manjimutt" and "Manjimutt: The Great (Dog) Escape". Though these eventually get removed, coinciding with Manjimutt going OutOfFocus.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Chinese Food in the first game, and Curry.
* UnreliableNarrator: After getting incarcerated in Alcatraz, he explains to the viewers how he ended up there. In his own recollections he blames everything on Nate, describing him as a monster who treated him as a slave. He also claims Nate kept breaking him out of jail against his will, which would cause him to get rearrested for escaping. In reality, Manjimutt got arrested due to a combination of his own behavior being considered inappropriate (urinating in public, scaring civilians, breaking and entering, stealing) or just his own misfortune. While Nate would regularly wait outside the prison for Manjimutt's release, and only summoned him while he was in prison twice (that we saw), with other summonings being when he was already released.
* UnskilledButStrong: He presumably never had combat training back when he was alive. That said, the fact that he's not InvisibleToNormals means he's actually a very powerful Yo-kai (and was tough enough to fight Roughraff, a Yo-kai based around Japanese street thugs, to a standstill).
* YourApprovalFillsMeWithShame: When it's revealed he's immune to Supoor Hero due to being at the maximum level of poverty, Nate praises him on how amazing this was, but it only makes Manjimutt even more depressed and leads him to run off.

A robotic cat Yo-kai from the Tough Tribe. In the far future, Jibanyan decided to robotize himself, and became Robonyan. His signature move, the Rocket Punch, makes him a very powerful Yo-kai. He is also capable of time travel, shapeshifting, and even has a chocolate bar factory installed in his body.

''Yo-kai Watch 2'' then introduces his counterpart from the farther future, Robonyan F.
----
* BadassAdorable: [[CuteMachines Has Jibanyan's cuteness]], but is much tougher and powerful, which is contributed to him becoming a member of a different tribe and being a Rank A Yo-kai.
* CasualTimeTravel: Always travels to the past and back whenever Nate needs him.
* CatchPhrase: "I'll be back..."
* ColorContrast: Some parts of his body are swapped from his original self (blue body with red on the bell collar and flame on his tails).
* DamageReduction: His soulimate powerup in Wibble Wobble helps the team take less damage.
* EagleLand: Yo-kai Watch 3 adds a Merican Yo-kai evolution of Robonyan named "Showbonyan"
* {{Expy}}:
** Robonyan F is a [[Manga/{{Doraemon}} blue and white robot cat from the future with plenty of problem-solving gadgets]].
** Robonyan in general is also a ShoutOut to the Franchise/{{Terminator}}, with his "I'll be back" catchphrase, the idea of a time traveling robot, his Terminator style music {{Leitmotif}}, melting and shapeshifting to anything like the T-1000, and doing the thumbs up as he descends into a portal which references a scene from ''Film/Terminator2JudgmentDay''.
** His backstory of how he was once a regular being, but turned into a mechanical one is similar to the Cybermen from ''Series/DoctorWho'', particularity the Cybus ones. They even share the same blank stare.
* FatalFlaw: Every powerful robot, but consumes a lot of energy.
* HeroicSacrifice: When Robonyan F, the more futuristic shows up, he collides himself with a meteor about to hit Earth, destroying himself in the process. Robonyan then becomes the new Robonyan F.
* AnIcePerson: Ice-attribute.
* JetPack: Has one built behind his pack.
* {{Leitmotif}}: He is accompanied with some theme music that sounds suspiciously similar to the Franchise/{{Terminator}} theme.
* MachineMonotone: Speaks like this.
* MadeOfIron: Quite literally in this case, since he has a metallic exterior making him very tough.
* MyFutureSelfAndMe: When Jibanyan meets him.
* NeverMyFault: In his spotlight on the Komasan Taxi segment, he blames B3-[=NK1=] for what happened in episode 23. While he is partially right, Robonyan was the one who wanted more rubbing from B3-[=NK1=].
* PainfulTransformation: The transition from Jibanyan to Robonyan was not pleasant.
* PrimaryColorChampion: Both his original and American forms have red, blue, gold, and silver colors.
* RocketPunch: His signature move.
* ShapeshifterShowdown: Does this with Mimikin, a fellow Yo-kai of the Tough tribe. Later on becomes Mimikin's mentor in shapeshifting.
* StableTimeLoop: It's implied that him going back in time to convince Jibanyan to roboticize himself, is what led to his creation to begin with.
* SuperToughness: Not surprising since he's made of metal and all, as well as hailing from the Tough tribe. His Soultimate, Guard Meowde, increases his defense while drawing enemy attacks to himself.
%%* TelescopingRobot
%%* TooKinkyToTorture
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Seafood in the first game, and Chocobars.
* TransformingMecha: He can transform into any vehicle.
* VoiceChangeling/ TranslatorMicrobes: Capable of using many different languages and accents.
* WasOnceAMan: While already dead to being with, Robonyan is a robotized Jibanyan.
* WhatIsThisFeeling: In B3-[=NK1=]'s debut story, he starts enjoying being "tickled" by the Yo-kai's sword, despite saying machines don't have emotions.
* YouCantFightFate: He tells Jibanyan that turning into a robot is his only choice.

A ninja-like Yo-kai of the Slippery Tribe who came to be when a monster named Rubeus J's reign of terror took away everything a young man held dear. Now he roams Springdale searching for Rubeus J to get his revenge. He usually visits Jibanyan, who unknowingly fits Rubeus J's exaggerated description. His scarf has two serpent heads on it, and is used as his powerful attack called "Octo-Snake."
----
* AloofAlly: In the first game, as he often appears to save the protagonist from danger and is often seen looking over them, however he initially acts cold and antagonistic.
* DeclarationOfProtection: In the first game, [[spoiler: his reason for attacking you during the final chapters was to protect Lucas from the horrors ahead.]]
* EeriePaleSkinnedBrunette: His hair is a very dark blue, close enough to count. And he seems intimidating due to seeking revenge over Rubeus J, whose description matches Jibanyan's description perfectly, but he's actually not a bad guy after all.
* FailedASpotCheck: All of his descriptions of Rubeus J are exaggerations of Jibanyan, like the cut in his ear, the love of chocolate, the truck punching, white strategist who doesn't actually know everything, etc. Subverted, as it turns out that Rubeus J is an entirely different Yo-kai after all.
* {{Foil}}: To Kyubi in ''Yo-kai Watch 2''.
* GroundPunch: Does this to show how intensely he'll kill Rubeus J.
* {{Orochi}}: Vastly different from how they are traditionally depicted, but still has the telltale snake heads emerging from his rear.
* HeelFaceTurn: Although never shown in the games, anime or a {{Flashback}}, [[spoiler: he used to be a monster known as The Serpent until the previous Lord Enma pulled a GetAHoldOfYourselfMan on him]].
* Magic Knight: In the games, his SPR is usually slightly higher than his STR. Much like in ''Pokemon Diamond & Pearl'' with Lucario, some mistake it for the other way around.
* PerpetualFrowner: Although most of his face is concealed by his dragon scarf, it's easy to say that he rarely smiles and almost always keeps a serious disposition
* ScarfOfAsskicking: His scarf acts as his signature move.
* ShockAndAwe: Thunder-attribute.
* SternTeacher: In episode 191,he temporarily trained a raccoon. Even in the creature's first lessons, he didn't hesitate. He made him fight a monster way bigger than he is, dodge Kyubi's fireballs and Venoct went far to use his signature move.
* SupernaturalGoldEyes: He's a very powerful Yo-kai considering he's the only one who can defeat Rubeus J.
* TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou: And the only one that can actually stand a chance against Rubeus J.
* ThePromise: His reason to protect the town of Springdale and Lucas [[spoiler: being the promise he made to Lucas' father long ago]].
* ThereIsAnother: Finds out that there is a monster stronger than Rubeus J: The bag-carrying, soul-eating Hardy Hound. And then Komasan walks by...
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Seafood.
* VagueAge: He's just slighly smaller than Nate, his voice in the Japanese dub is very girly, the summary for the second chapter of the game refers to him as a "Mysterious Yo-kai boy", Rubeus J calls him a child during their battle in the original Japanese version, however he comes off as very intense and mature, has been said to be over 100 years old, and his voice in the Engish dub is extremely deep.
* WhenHeSmiles: Venoct usually keeps an aloof disposition but when he does smile, it is very unique mostly because no one can see it.

----
* BadassAdorable: Just look at him.
* BadassCape: A long red cloth.
* BigEater: Literally. As Meganyan, he increases the size of nearby food so he can eat it.
* BlowYouAway: Wind-attribute.
* TheLancer: To Nathaniel/Kenny.
* MegaNeko: Can transform into a huge version of himself called "Meganyan".
* PowerFloats: Wouldn't be called "'''Hover'''nyan" if this wasn't the case.

->'''Voiced by:''' Kazuhiro Fusegawa (Japanese), Meyer [=DeLeeuw=] (English)
A cat 'Merican Yo-kai of the Charming Tribe who meets Nate and the others in BBQ when they meet him arguing with the Koma Knomads over whether they should eat Sushi or Tempura. In the anime, he comes from the USA to see what Japan is like compared to America. After meeting Nate, Tomnyan usually likes to brag about how great things are in the USA but he is usually given the same thing in Japan and is finds himself surprised that it's just as good. He also likes to play a little song while strumming his guitar (A song that Jibanyan hates). He and Jibanyan are usually at each others' necks at times, but when Tomnyan tells how he became a Yo-kai (Which is very similar to the way Jibanyan became one, saving his owner and all) the two warm up to each other.
----
* AdaptationalJerkass: In the manga anyway.
* BadassAdorable: Just as much as Jibanyan.
* BystanderSyndrome: Would it be that hard to explain that you're not supposed to eat food Yo-kai?(Or really, any of the other horrible things Jerry does to other Yo-kai)
* DeepSouth: Has a Southern accent in the English version just like US[=Apyon=], meant to reflect his status as a 'Merican Yo-kai.
* EagleLand: Boorish with hints of beautiful. He's loud and obnoxious but does care about his human partner from the anime adaptation.
* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: Let's see, got run over by a truck, check. Loves a type of candy to the point of obsession? Check. REALLY, REALLY loves an Idol and kisses a picture of her every night? HELL YES!!
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Mega Tasty Bars.
* VerbalTic: Ends his sentences with "Meow" in both the Japanese and English versions, but he also ends his sentences with "Dude" as well in the latter version.
