!Freedom
!!Freedom In General
One of the three major factions of summoners, comprising those who don't belong in the other factions. It is overseen by the Spirit of the Fluttering Yellow Gills that Rules the Heavens.
----
%%* HadToBeSharp:
* LibertyOverProsperity: Essentially what divides the group from Government and Illegal.
* OneManArmies: Due to having to fight without the backup of an organisation, many of Freedom's summoners are this.
* RagtagBunchOfMisfits: Due to having even less of a central hierarchy than Illegal.
----

[[folder:Kyousuke Shiroyama]]
[[quoteright:336:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shiroyama_kyousuke.png]]
The protagonist of the series. A high-ranking summoner in Freedom, with an initial Award of 902. He's known by many names, including Alice (with) Rabbit, Ace Destroyer, the Unexplored-Class Summoner, Loved by the White, Eternal Wearer of Material, and Hive Crusher. Despite his skill, he doesn't have any interest in summoning for its own sake, nor for things like fame or fortune. Instead, he's driven by an irresistible urge to assist anyone who says what he calls the cursed words: "help me". At the start of the series, he no longer has a vessel to summon with, so is planning to retire from summoning. [[CosmicPlaything But of course]], he happens to run across someone begging for help.

Kyousuke's summoning name is Alice (with) Rabbit. His Blood Sign is a staff made from Repliglass, capable of changing shape to be stored easily.
----
* TheAce: A decent physical fighter, and an incredible summoner who can easily defeat most opponents. When he encounters someone capable of putting up a challenge, he always has a countermeasure by the second fight. Additionally, he's a genius at improving the summoning ceremony - [[ChildProdigy at the age of ten]], he created a method of permanently summoning a Material. And he also has a wealth of general knowledge outside of summoning.
* AliceAllusion: He plays the part of the White Rabbit, as shown in one of his nicknames. Played with; while he could be said to lead girls around, he makes sure to get them out of whatever trouble they're in and then cuts ties with them to keep them out of the world of summoning. In a sense, he leads Alice ''out'' of Wonderland, not into it. Played straight, however, in Volume 5. [[spoiler:In the Fifteen Siblings Project, he was assigned the codename of White Rabbit. Eventually, he managed to permanently summon and befriend the White Queen - the first Alice. As she pointed out, he had taken her from her original world into another world, just like what happened to Lewis Carroll's Alice. The allusion is further emphasised by the names they gave to each other: the Queen gave him the name "Alice (with) Rabbit", so that they'd never be separated, while he gave her the name "Mary Ann" (which Alice received when the White Rabbit mistook her for his servant)]].
* AnimalMotifs: Rabbits, one of the most iconic prey animals. Like a rabbit, Kyousuke is always living in fear regardless of his current situation.
* ArchEnemy: Sees the White Queen as this. Entirely one-sided, as she has the exact opposite impression of their relationship.
* AnArmAndALeg: [[spoiler:Cuts off his own arm at the end of Volume 3 to avoid being controlled by the White Queen via a hair in the bracelet he was wearing. It gets reattached, though]].
* TheAtoner: For partially causing the Secret War, and for its combatants' HeroicSacrifice[=s=] to free him. Saving lives to balance out the ones lost is his main occupation in life.
* AwesomenessByAnalysis: His forte. He can determine an enemy's fighting style in his first fight with them, and come up with a countermeasure by the second fight.
* BatmanGambit: The only way he's ever able to defeat the White Queen. At the end of Volume 1, [[spoiler:he summons the Black Maw deliberately. Since the Black Maw is another facet of the White Queen, and the Queen's jealousy extends even to other copies of herself, the two Materials fight to the death]].
* BornUnlucky: Solely due to his fate with the White Queen, his luck is stated to be even worse than [[UnluckyEverydude Kamijou Touma's]] in one of the official crossovers.
-->"[[Literature/ACertainMagicalIndex The spiky-haired boy was always lamenting his misfortune]], but it was Shiroyama Kyousuke who had truly been born under an unlucky star."
* BrutalHonesty: Won't hesitate to state an uncomfortable truth. A good example is when he says that the Meinokawa sisters will be useless against the elite summoners of Bridesmaid, right in front of them.
* BrokenPedestal: Shigara was a savior/surrogate mother/mentor to him, so finding out that she's now protecting the Queen broke his heart.
* ButNowIMustGo: Inverted. He forces the people he's saved to leave him, enforcing it with LaserGuidedAmnesia. This is supposedly because they can't have happy lives while being connected to the world of summoning, but Isabelle argues he does it to enable his attachment disorder.
->"I don’t think he knows how to maintain a connection with other people. Not even a small-sized amount."
* CassandraTruth: Despite (or perhaps because) of the Queen's effortless slaughter of everyone who attacked her during the War, very few people want to believe Kyousuke when he tells them that the Queen is evil.
* CelibateHero: He doesn't show any sort of romantic or sexual interest in anyone through the series. Enforced, giving that the White Queen [[{{Yandere}} would kill anyone he did start a relationship with]], and he doesn't want anything to do with the Queen, either.
* CharacterFilibuster: After diplomatic negotiations break down in Volume 9, Kyousuke outlines his grievances with the current situation in a 690-word rant- including (but not limited to) the fact that his family is dead, [[TheFourLoves romance]] is meaningless, and the White Queen is a whore.
* ChickMagnet: Many female characters are attracted to him [[TheGadfly (or willing to joke that they might be)]]. [[spoiler:Whether this has anything to do with him being the Queen's "love", in the same way that Biondetta riles up ferocity in everyone she meets, is unclear.]]
* ChildProdigy: As a child, he managed to singlehandedly create a method of permanently summoning the White Queen, something that countless summoners with far greater resources have yet to match.
* ChronicHeroSyndrome: He refers to the phrase "help me" as the Cursed Words because he is unable to refuse anyone who says it to him. [[spoiler:This reflex comes from the trauma of seeing his sister die in the middle of saying those words.]]
* CloudcuckoolandersMinder: An unusually serious example. When he and the White Queen are together in public, he keeps onlookers from drawing her anger or trying to use her. [[spoiler:And before the Secret War, he freed her from the Siblings' deception that her alien, guileless nature made her vulnerable to.]]
* CombatPragmatist: Will use just about any available tactic as long as it ensures everybody survives, including causing explosions in a guarded facility to throw off the patrol routes, knocking out summoners with plain physical force before they can summon a Material, and setting fire to a tunnel to deprive someone of oxygen before retrieving them before they actually die.
* ContrastingSequelMainCharacter: Most of Kamachi's protagonists tend to be fairly weak and "ordinary" (with some exceptions, such as [[Literature/ACertainMagicalIndex Accelerator]]). Kyousuke is among the strongest of summoners (though not ''the'' strongest). However, he doesn't come off as overpowered for the setting, given that the main antagonist is [[InvincibleVillain vastly more powerful still]].
* CosmicPlaything: A literal example. As the lover/pet/toy/victim of the White Queen, he's always the target of her whims, causing him no end of suffering.
* CruelMercy: If he ''really'' hates an enemy, he will personally maim them. Such actions technically don't count as killing, and the setting's advanced medicine means practically any injury will be perfectly healed...if/when a medic finds them.
* CulturedBadass: He is a stalwart [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humanism humanist]] who often gets distracted by philosophical questions. The final nail in the coffin of his breakup with the White Queen was their disagreement on a ''really'' important theoretical point.
-->''"By escaping the fear and control of that Queen...man can finally return to being man. In accordance with the concept of noblesse oblige...we in the Deltaston family are obligated to take on that burden...”''\
''Kyousuke breathed a heavy sigh.''\
''In any other situation, he would have loved to listen to this until morning.''
* DeathSeeker: Because he didn't want to live with the guilt and loss of his surrogate family in the Secret War he tried to die. However, the Queen forced him to live.
* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: [[spoiler:By summoning the Black Maw, Kyousuke manages to singlehandedly (for certain values of the word) defeat the White Queen in Volume 1. He's rewarded with the rare Award, White Slayer, being the only person to achieve it on his own]].
* DidNotSeeThatComing: He summoned the Queen because she was going to kill Biondetta if he didn't, and he fully expected to die for his insolence. [[spoiler:Then she glomped him.]]
* DidYouJustFlipOffCthulhu: Rather, ''Did You Just Push The White Queen Into A Lake''?
* DramaticIrony: He thinks that the White Queen isn't really in love with him, but an idealised image of him. However, it's repeatedly hinted that this isn't the case, [[spoiler:and Volume 5 outright confirms that her love is genuine]]. Another example is how often he ends up protecting people who believe in the Queen.
* DudeInDistress: Like most summoners, he has no hope of fighting Materials unless he's contracted with one. [[spoiler:The Secret War was fought to protect him, because he would've sooner died than contract with the White Queen again.]]
* EarnYourTitle: [[spoiler:Queen Executioner]], as of Volume 8.
* ExperiencedProtagonist: By the time volume 1 starts Kyousuke already has over 900 awards and years of experience in the summoning business.
* ExtremeDoormat: Pre-Garden Kyousuke was a pawn of his father, too dispirited even to warn others about his schemes. This is one reason he blames himself for the Secret War.
* {{Foil}}:
** To the White Queen, something highlighted in the afterword of the first volume. Kyousuke is among the strongest of summoners, while the Queen is the strongest Material. Kyousuke is somewhat like a Material in the way he singlemindedly performs a role (saving people), while the Queen is driven by the human emotion of love (even if it's [[{{Yandere}} horribly twisted]]). Both of these idiosyncrasies come from them meeting and influencing each other.
** To Biondetta. Both are survivors of the Fifteen Siblings Project. It made them both powerful summoners, but also caused them to receive the Queen's emotions (love in his case, hatred in Biondetta's case). As a result, Kyousuke is driven to save people, while Biondetta is driven to help people with revenge. But they're ultimately not that different, as they follow these ideals to inhuman extremes.
* TheFourLoves: He is still mentally a child in some respects, so he overidealizes ''storge'' and [[SexIsEvilAndIAmHorny utterly represses]] the few ''eros'' instincts he has.
* DespairEventHorizon: When he learns that [[spoiler:the White Queen is completely and utterly invincible]].
* TheDeterminator: When you're fighting against the most powerful being in existence, this is an essential requirement.
* GameBreaker: The Sewn Realm Summoning he developed can summon any Material indefinitely, without the restrictions of the Blood Sign method. However, it turned out that those limitations existed for a reason, and he refuses to use it again.
* GoodIsNotNice: He is a fanatic- a benevolent, entirely justified fanatic, but a fanatic nonetheless. When trying to save others and/or fight the White Queen, he will resort to any method as long as it doesn't involve killing other humans. His own or his vessel's comfort is also completely secondary to that goal.
-->'''Olivia:''' I don’t want to! How many countries do you think we’ve visited today alone? I don’t care if it’s in a tent or a car! I just want to get some sleep!\
'''Kyousuke:''' A civilian Repliglass supersonic plane takes two hours, so you can rest on the way there.
* GrammarNazi: His EstablishingCharacterMoment is deflating Aika just for using a figure of speech.
-->"This is not my home, we are not blood related, and we are not brother and sister. You should be saying ‘welcome’ or ‘I’m glad you made it’. And this is your home, so you need to learn how to pick up after yourself."
* HeroicBSOD: He's so invested in a) defeating the Queen, b) not adding to the list of people dead because of him, that anything which threatens those goals makes him freeze up with horror. This is one reason he always fights alongside someone.
* HeroicSacrifice: His main method of fighting in Volume 10 involves ordering his vessel to reach the Queen by stabbing ''through'' him.
* HonorBeforeReason: He ''has'' to help anyone who asks for it, whether they are genuinely in danger or deliberately using this fact to to manipulate him (as Aika does when she gets him to buy her a soda). However, he reserves the right to decide how.
%%* HumanPet:
* JudgmentOfSolomon: Due to his poor social skills, he assumes that bisecting a treat both Biondetta and Kyoumi want will resolve their dispute over who should get it. Kyoumi points out that he just ruined it.
* IAmNotAGun: As years pass Kyousuke grows further away from the "precision-guided missile" his father created him to be- falling in love, establishing his rule against killing, making friends who know about his true identity, and most recently [[spoiler:breaking his code to protect the Girl]].
-->“This isn’t about that. I decide what happens to the enemies I defeat. These days, Alice (with) Rabbit doesn’t just apply to allies. Times have changed, Queen.”
* TheImmune: Everyone has some degree of resistance to the White Queen's [[MindVirus influence]], but Kyousuke [[spoiler:and Shigara]]'s immunity is total. [[InexplicablyAwesome It's not explained why]], Kyousuke being more interested in avoiding the resultant dangers than finding out.
* IncorruptiblePurePureness: He is one of the ''very'' few people who can consider the Queen without losing their mind to fear, shame, or greed.
* ItIsDehumanizing: Refers to the Queen as "it" when he is especially scared of her, the narration changing to match his dialogue.
* IWasNamedMyName: The Queen refers to him as "brother", because the [[AkashicRecords dictionary she was using]] defines that term as [[spoiler:"a predecessor, one who shows the way, one you can rely upon, the master of an apprentice"]], which coincidentally lines up with him drawing the Guide Rabbit role three years later.
* KidWithTheLeash: Used to function as this to the White Queen. To some extent, it's still the case, but the Queen is now so unpredictable that he doesn't dare to rely on this.
* KillerRabbit: In his school life, he seems so harmless that female students feel safe walking alone with him.
* KnightInSourArmor: His determination comes more from loneliness than true virtue. Having been the cause of so much pain during the Secret War, he has no right to say that ''anyone'' is not worth saving, hence his ThouShaltNotKill policy.
-->'''Kyousuke:''' I was wrong. I was wrong for so very, very long. I'm probably still wrong now. I know that. But even so, I couldn't ignore the voices of those sinking into the bog. I don't do this because of any strength. I'm being driven by the weakness that keeps me from accepting defeat, tragedy, pain, despair, or loss.
* LivingEmotionalCrutch: He insists that the various Alices explicitly ask for help because otherwise he wouldn't feel justified in fighting (given the large amount of blood on his hands already). Having someone by his side helps to calm him down when he [[DoomMagnet inevitably]] fucks everything up worse than it was before he got involved.
%%* LockedOutOfTheLoop:
* LonelyBachelorPad: His boat, which is stocked primarily with weapons and cereal. He doesn't have much time for anything that isn't fighting or preparing for fighting.
* LovingAShadow: How he sees the White Queen. He thinks that she's really in love with a distorted image of him, and that if they did get together, she'd become disillusioned and kill him [[spoiler:like she killed his siblings]].
* MagicKnight: Often engages in melee combat with his Blood Sign, in lieu of (or in addition to) summoning.
* MortonsFork: There was no path he could have taken that did not result in the Queen [[spoiler:killing his sister]]. If he had summoned her, she would have come, and if he asked her not to, she would have come anyway, out of curiosity (because no-one had ever requested ''that'' before).
* NervesOfSteel: Never loses his cool, until the White Queen gets involved.
* NamedWeapons: His Blood-Sign is called Phosphorus, after a scientific element that can be many colours.
* NoodleIncident:
** It's not explained how he created [[spoiler:the Colorless Little Girl]], other than the fact that it required illegal substances.
** His involvement in Flanguild's civil war occurred before the series started and is therefore undetailed, but the monarch of that country considers him a war hero and has no qualms about entrusting her daughter's protection to him. It's mentioned that during the war he took out a laser railway gun's guard unit and used the weapon to shoot at Repliglass aerial aircraft carriers flying above the capital to force them to make an emergency landing and that he saved Rachel's life at least three times, one of them involving him sucking out the poison of an arrow out of her body and princess-carrying her to safety.
* NoGoodDeedGoesUnpunished: Despises this trope. Years ago, he made the difficult-yet-moral decision to disobey his father and protect the White Queen instead of killing her, a decision which should have brought about a happy ending for everyone. But it didn't, and he's still not over it.
-->''He decided it might be best to send her a gift.\
Yes.\
She could be a real pain in the ass, but that knight had done nothing wrong. There was something wrong when the world made a fool of someone so diligent. He had to make up for that.''
* NotWhatItLooksLike:
** In the beginning of Volume 2, Aika walks in on him and Lu Niang Lan panting heavily and close together. They had just come from a fierce battle at the airport, as it turns out.
** And in the beginning of Volume 7, he and Biondetta stop at a hotel to bathe before visiting the Meinokawa Shrine. When Renge notices that they both smell of said hotel's shampoo, she comes to entirely the wrong conclusion.
* ObliviousToLove: While it's justified considering their history, [[spoiler:he refuses to acknowledge that the White Queen is genuinely in love with him]].
* OhCrap: Reacts with panic whenever the White Queen makes an appearance.
* OneManArmy: Routinely takes on large numbers of summoners and wins.
* OnlySaneMan: In the peace conference at the end of Volume 9, he is the ''only'' one who mentions all the deaths the Queen has caused. This creeps him out.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: He does not [[ThouShaltNotKill hold back]] against the Queen because she's just that big a threat, and she has warned she will "punish" him if he does so. [[spoiler:Also, ItsPersonal, so he considers her past actions irredeemable.]]
* PersonalityBloodTypes: Volume 4 implies that he's Type A, which is consistent with his personality.
* PocketProtector: A variation. He keeps his Blood Sign curled up on his back, underneath his hoodie, where it can potentially block an attack. [[spoiler:This saves him from being stabbed by Fuuki in Volume 2]].
* {{Psychopomp}}: [[spoiler:The basis of his Material nature.]] He leads girls to all sorts of places, whether that be the metaphorical 'world' of {{Muggles}}, the world of mortals, or [[BackFromTheDead life itself]].
* {{Revenge}}: He Summons to save people because it's most easy and efficient for him, but he doesn't get much satisfaction out of that because his "father" forced him to become a summoner and taught him everything he knows. When he is fighting solely to avenge himself, he is much more bloodthirsty and hands-on.
* SatelliteCharacter: Interestingly enough, he could be seen as this to the White Queen, despite being the main character.
** His desire to save people is an attempt to atone for his failure that led to the White Queen slaughtering countless people.
** His CelibateHero tendencies are, at least in part, to protect the girls from the Queen's wrath.
** His current goal is to find some way to defeat the Queen [[spoiler:and, perhaps, to redeem her]].
* SickeninglySweethearts: When they were together, he and the Queen had the tendency to draw the attention of everyone else in the room, [[spoiler:hence the Siblings' envy]]. One of the multiverse-crossover stories describes it:
-->But those two had already set up an inviolable space for themselves (...) all the pure love and killer intent forming a vortex around them created a heavy atmosphere indeed.
* SingleIssuePsychology: Averted. Realizing that [[ATragedyOfImpulsiveness the Queen didn't do anything wrong]] lessens his pain not a bit- [[spoiler:his sister was still anihilated in front of him for no fault of her own]], and he still needs justice for that.
%%* SingleIssueWonk:
* SmallStepsHero: For example, rescuing a group of enemies instead of two of his allies.
* SoWhatDoWeDoNow: Averted. He didn't realize that people would panic as much as they did [[spoiler:when the Queen was replaced]]. Fixing all the wars and disorder caused by that keeps him even busier than he was before.
* StrawVulcan: In his enclosed childhood, he only experienced pain as a logical, deliberately inflicted consequence [[TrainingFromHell of failure]]. Therefore, he is uncomfortable with facing the reality that pain is naturally part of life, and flat-out refuses to accept that anything involving it (even the ''emotional'' pain of [[LoveHurts close relationships]]) can be good or worth continuing. Shigara compares it to never touching a stove again because he got burned by one once.
* SurroundedByIdiots: He is frustrated by the fact that no-one else is as batshit terrified of the Queen as he is. Even in one of the crossover stories, he tries to drag a roomful of strangers into his battle against her, and is surprised by the fact that none of them care for the idea of fighting someone they'd never met until just that moment.
* TeenGenius: Frequently shows himself to be more knowledgeable than much older summoners. His crowning achievement is without a doubt [[spoiler:inventing the Fourth Summoning Ceremony ''singlehandedly'', as part of his fight against the White Queen]].
* TheUnfettered: In response to [[spoiler:the Colorless Little Girl]]'s refusal of help in volume 8, he goes full white-knight and decides that he'll get involved anyway. His atonement takes priority over her chivalry.
-->''Given what his actions had caused when he tried to save the Queen in the Queen’s Miniature Garden, it was clearly an ironclad rule he could never forget even for a moment.\
But.\
Was there no cure for being a fool?''
* TheNeedsOfTheMany: Inverted because Kyousuke is willing to risk fucking up an entire timeline to save one person. He pretty much has to be, since his free will is the only thing preventing Earth from becoming a warless utopia.
* ThouShallNotKill: To the point of inspiring the epithet "Unkilling King".
* ToBeLawfulOrGood: His rules are self-imposed out of guilt, so he won't break them even if doing so would be altruistic. He can help people if they're too unconscious [[spoiler:or self-sacrificing]] to ask for help, but otherwise he has to trust their judgment.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Cereal, which is the only thing he eats for breakfast and almost the only food he has on his boat.
-->'''Biondetta:''' It’s not like we’re Tokyo stock brokers who spend all day at a desk. We’re summoners who use our brains and bodies quite a lot. If anything, it’s a mystery how you’ve lasted so long on nothing but cereal.
* {{Ubermensch}}: Kyousuke's definition of the "compassion" that motivates his every action is only coincidentally related to societal laws or others' needs. (For example, while [[HeroicBSOD bluescreening]] in Volume 9 he does nothing to help the rioters' victims. In his mind, if people can't be saved from the White's madness, then they might as well die.) This is why he's surprised by his reputation for being a knight in shining armor.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: He didn't realize that the Sewn Realm process he created could summon an army of Materials simultaneously, or that other summoners would use it to wreak havoc on the world.
* WeakButSkilled: Relative to the White Queen, his personal power is small and limited, but he can work wonders with it through skillful application.
* WhatDidIDoLastNight: Volume 4 begins with him waking up in a hotel room... [[BedmateReveal with the White Queen lying next to him]]. His immediate reaction, when she doesn't let him escape, is to grab anything and everything and use it (futilely) as a weapon. He then has to figure out just what exactly led to this scene straight out of his worst nightmares.
* WhatMeasureIsANonHuman: He was very young and lonely when he first started summoning, so he treated Materials as if they had human souls. This was one of the causes of the Secret War.
* WillfullyWeak: Refuses to ever use the White Queen's power, even though it would make him unstoppable and invincible.
** He discovers a means of [[spoiler:TimeTravel]] in Volume 2, but never considers recreating it since it relies on the White Queen.
** An even bigger example is Volume 4, in which the White Queen is manifesting without a time limit and is eager to do whatever he wants. He refuses to have her fight for him, even though he doesn't have a vessel at the time. In this case, he outlines his reasons: the White Queen could defeat all of his enemies, but this would only incite fear and envy of Kyousuke himself. He'd therefore be forced to rely more on the Queen, until eventually he became completely dependent on her.
* YouAreNotAlone: He is deeply touched [[spoiler:by his classmates' attempt to remember him, despite summoners being InvisibleToNormals]].
* YourApprovalFillsMeWithShame: Any sort of compliment from the White Queen has this effect.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Renge Meinokawa]]
A summoner in Freedom with an Award in the 300s, whose vessel is her twin sister Higan. She initially traveled to Toy Dream 35 for an exorcism job, which turns out to be a trap laid by Guard of Honor. Renge managed to escape, but was separated from her sister in her process.[[labelnote:Click here to see spoilers]]She is eventually revealed to be an ArtificialHuman, created through a process known as the Joruri Method. Her parents had built her as a replacement for Higan, whose nature as a vessel made her useless for summoning.[[/labelnote]]
----
%%* ArtificialHuman
* BadassNormal: When separated from Higan and unable to summon, she manages to evade Guard of Honor for many hours, even leaving a hidden message for Higan to receive. [[spoiler:Subverted, as she isn't a human]].
* BigSisterInstinct: She loves Higan with everything she is, and unhesitatingly fights to protect her.
-->'''Renge:''' [[PreAsskickingOneLiner "Don't underestimate sisterly bonds!"]]
* BodyHorror: [[spoiler:Her torso can be opened up to reveal the clockwork and artificial organs inside]].
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Her parents had a gambling addiction and fell into debt [[spoiler:due to Guard of Honor's machinations]]. She and Higan set out in an attempt to pay the debt.
* IdenticalTwinIDTag: She has black hair and black eyes, like the majority of Japanese people, whereas Higan has blonde hair and blue eyes. [[spoiler:Higan used to have black hair and eyes as well, but was subject to experiments attempting to remove her vessel trait. This had the side effect of changing her eye and hair color]].
%%* {{Miko}}
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: She happens across Kyousuke and Higan fighting, and losing against, Azalea. [[spoiler:She uses her connection with Higan to hijack the vessel contract from Kyousuke, then takes advantage of Azalea's setup to summon the White Queen. Normally, this would result in her instant victory... except that since she's in front of Kyousuke, the Queen's behavior is nothing like usual. The Queen beats up Renge, and leaves Higan with a toxin in her body that will soon kill her]].
* OvershadowedByAwesome: She's not a poor summoner by any means, as shown when she wins a battle with one of the Uniquely Selfless. But when compared to summoners in the 900s, like Kyousuke or Azalea, there's little she can do.
* PunchedAcrossTheRoom: She punches Doctor S this hard when he pisses her off. It goes right through the reinforced glass he was imprisoned behind.
-->'''Renge:''' "Listen, Higan. It doesn’t matter what exists beyond the gods. There are some things you can’t forgive no matter what clever justifications and arguments people come up with."
* RidiculouslyHumanRobots: [[spoiler:For all intents and purposes, she counts as human. She can bind a vessel contract and summon Materials, and her artificial organs can be donated to Higan in a crisis]].
%%* StraightMan: Plays this role to Aoi Meinokawa.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Higan Meinokawa]]
A vessel in Freedom with an Award in the 300s, who acts as a vessel for her twin sister Renge. Much less confident than her sister, she usually follows Renge's lead.
----
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Her parents had a gambling addiction and fell into debt [[spoiler:due to Guard of Honor's machinations]]. She and Renge set out in an attempt to pay the debt.
* DamnedByFaintPraise: The narration itself precedes Higan's best SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome with reiterations of how ignorant she had been before.
* TheDitz: For a good example, Aika tells her that she can make Kyousuke do whatever she wants by putting on striped panties and showing them to him. ''She actually believes this''.
* FindTheCure: [[spoiler:The White Queen left fragments of her body in Higan's, which would kill her by seven that evening (and that was with treatment). This forced Kyousuke to find some way of destroying the White Queen's physical body, to remove the fragments. A somewhat unusual example, as Higan wasn't incapacitated by this and continued to act as his vessel]].
* GoingCommando: For a brief period in Volume 1, due to her original clothing becoming soaked in seawater.
* IdenticalTwinIDTag: She has blonde hair and blue eyes, unlike the majority of Japanese people, whereas Renge has black hair and black eyes. [[spoiler:Higan used to have black hair and eyes as well, but was subject to experiments attempting to remove her vessel trait. This had the side effect of changing her eye and hair color]].
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: [[spoiler:She is unaware that Renge is really a doll made to copy her]].
* LockedIntoStrangeness: Her blonde hair isn't natural; [[spoiler:it's a side effect of experiments done by her parents in an attempt to remove her trait as a vessel]].
%%* {{Miko}}
* ReluctantFanserviceGirl: Is temporarily forced to wear a maid outfit with a miniskirt and no underwear, when her original clothing gets wet.
* SpannerInTheWorks: Of all people, she ends up playing this role in the second volume. [[spoiler:She drugs herself and Renge while trying to investigate a train which people have been disappearing on. Both of them end up caught in the overlap of the past and the present, inadvertently created by the villains' plot. They eventually break out of it in front of Kyousuke, allowing him to realise the truth and hence have the opportunity to prevent a murder in the past]].

[[folder:Biondetta Shiroyama]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/biondetta.png]]
Another survivor of the Fifteen Siblings Project, Biondetta is a Freedom summoner with Award 920. A dark mirror to Kyousuke, she also helps those who ask... as long as it's for revenge. Rather than saving her partners like Kyousuke, she spurs them on in their vengeance, into a self-destructive spiral. She first appears in Volume 3 as the major antagonist.[[labelnote:Click here to see spoilers]]At the end of Volume 5, Kyousuke rescues her from captivity and asks her to help him with his revenge against the White Queen. Currently, she and Kyousuke are in an uneasy partnership.[[/labelnote]]

Biondetta's summoning name is "Liar Cat". Her Blood Sign resembles a silver pipe engraved with an ivy pattern, and has been modified to be capable of firing 7.62 mm bullets.
----
* AliceAllusion: She has the role of the Cheshire Cat, and it serves as another contrast between her and Kyousuke. While both the White Rabbit and the Cheshire Cat led Alice around, they did so in different ways.
* AxCrazy: When you receive the hatred of an EldritchAbomination, this is to be expected.
* BeatThemAtTheirOwnGame: Her summoning style involves matching her opponent's sound range while maintaining a slightly higher cost (and hence power). But this is actually a cover for her ''real'' strategy.
* CatchPhrase: "Yes sir/ma'am". It both fits her waitress outfit and parallels Kyousuke's "As you wish".
* ChargedAttack: While distracting her opponent, she carefully sets up the arrangement of Petals so that, just by striking one White Thorn, she can cause a chain reaction to almost instantly promote her Material from Regulation-Class to Divine-Class. The resulting Material can then crush its counterpart in one hit.
* CheshireCatGrin: Every single time she smiles.
* CombatPragmatist: Won't hesitate to shoot her enemies before they get the opportunity to summon.
* CoolBigSis: Used to serve this role to Kyousuke. [[spoiler:When they form an alliance, she takes up her role again with glee]].
* {{Cyborg}}: Her right arm contains artificial bone, to handle the recoil of her modified Blood Sign. All of her teeth are also artificial, and these include a wireless detonator for her Incense Grenades and a miniature flash bomb.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Hinted at. She was pretty messed up even before entering the Miniature Garden.
* DealWithTheDevil: She has a prominent demon motif, and all of her 'help' falls under this trope. While she will provide any and all assistance to her partner, she also encourages them in their revenge, in order to satisfy her own desires.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: Gleefully enables rapists, murderers, and every form of conflict known to man. Hugs her "little brother" [[spoiler:after he is toyed with by the White Queen]] and encourages him to cry on her shoulder.
* EvilCounterpart: Obviously, to Kyousuke. Both are elite summoners, who gained their skills from the Fifteen Siblings Project. Both received the White Queen's emotions, which resulted in their different ways of helping people. Kyousuke, having received the Queen's love, saves people. In contrast, Biondetta, having received the Queen's hatred, spurs on her client's revenge no matter the cost to them. Kyousuke refuses to kill, whereas Biondetta doesn't care, to the point of modifying her Blood Sign into a gun.
* FaceHeelTurn: A gradual example. [[spoiler:After Kyousuke summoned the White Queen, Biondetta, like the rest of the siblings, slowly began to change. At first, there were only minor signs, such as saying that helping people with their revenge was a good idea. It all came to a head when the Secret War began and she received the Queen's hatred. Biondetta then had a powerful urge to kill Kyousuke, using the last of her willpower to send him away before she gave in]].
* FanserviceWithASmile: Her outfit is a modified white and pink waitress' uniform. It symbolizes the nature of the help she provides: she provides her client with whatever they want, but they have to take responsibility for their own health and finances.
* IrrationalHatred: Justified. It's not ''her'' hatred, after all.
* MageMarksman: Unlike Kyousuke, her Blood Sign also doubles as a gun. She primarily uses it as a distraction - while it can't harm Materials, shooting them still draws their attention.
* MagicKnight: Like Kyousuke, she doesn't hesitate to engage in close combat using her Blood Sign.
* NotBloodSiblings: She has played the part of Kyousuke's older sister, ever since their days together in the Miniature Garden.
* ThePowerOfHate: It's unclear how she survived duelling Alberto while the Garden collapsed around them, but this trope probably played a role.
* SenseFreak: Post-Garden. Biondetta looooves the feeling of anger, and is constantly seeking out her next "fix". She actually lets herself be enslaved because that way, the thrill of getting revenge on her captors would be greater.
* ShamelessFanserviceGirl
* SnakesAreSexy: [[spoiler:While working with Kyousuke]], she uses a white snake as a vessel. Said snake generally hides underneath her clothing when not being used.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Biondetta or Beyondetta?
* TokenEvilTeammate: After [[spoiler:allying with Kyousuke]].
* WouldHurtAChild: She has to be stopped from spanking Olivia.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Perfect Equilibrium]]
A former leader of Freedom, who had achieved and stayed at an Award of 500 (hence the name). Incorrigibly lazy, she tended to be asleep even at important meetings. Along with Humanism and Open Bluff, she was one of the backers behind the Fifteen Siblings Project.[[labelnote:Click here to see spoilers]]She turns out to actually be the Unexplored-Class Material, the Spirit of Fluttering Yellow Gills that Rules the Heavens, and is still alive. She'd pretended to be human to avoid being summoned.[[/labelnote]]
----
* BerserkButton: Having her sleep disturbed.
* BewareTheSillyOnes: She might have been too lazy to do anything of her own accord, but she utterly crushed anyone stupid enough to challenge her. [[spoiler:Her real nature as an Unexplored-Class only adds to this]].
* GodWasMyCopilot
* MixAndMatchCritters: [[spoiler:In her real Material form, she rides something that combines the traits of birds, fish and mammals]].
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: Her real name [[spoiler:and actual identity]] is only revealed at the end of Volume 5.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Claude Magentarain]]
A summoner in Freedom, a large man who is frequently compared to a pirate. He is a member of the prestigious Magentarain family, but grew disgusted with their way of life. He chose to save the young Azalea from death, and was therefore cast out of the family. Claude uses a bald eagle named Ricky as a vessel.
----
%%zce* DefectorFromDecadence

!Government
!!Government In General
One of the three major factions of summoners, funded by over sixty governments, religions and large corporations. It is overseen by the Red-Eyed Lady who Sees Through all Sin and Calamity.
----
* DeathFromAbove: One of their methods is to bomb entire areas from the air. After all, even summoners can't spend all of their time summoning, and so remain vulnerable to normal weaponry.
* PoweredArmor: The majority of their fighting force comprises rookie summoners in Repliglass suits. They provide backup to the summoner-vessel pairs.
* WeHaveReserves: Due to having the greatest numbers of the three factions, they can afford to lose a few.
----

[[folder:Aika]]
An Award 870 summoner working for Government, who uses a white liger as a vessel. She mainly acts as a middleman between the Government higher-ups and the agents on the ground. Personally, she's a serious shut-in who never leaves her home, relying on Government agents and Kyousuke to handle her affairs. Her apartment serves as a headquarters of sorts for the main cast.

Aika's summoning name is Hikkomori. Her Blood Sign resembles a candy cane, and is apparently made of sugar.
----
* ACupAngst: Tends to become irritated whenever [[ImpossibleHourglassFigure Lu Niang Lan]] is around.
* AMotherToHerMen: She is well-loved because, unlike most of Government's managers, she cares about protecting the summoners she sends out on jobs.
* BlueBlood: [[spoiler:She is the granddaughter of President Toydream]].
* BystanderSyndrome: She is of the opinion that unless ItsPersonal or Kyousuke is out of commission, she can let Alice (with) Rabbit handle any of the trouble that's going on outside.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: In a crossover, she manages to redirect a pyrokinetic's magical attacks without a vessel.
* FireForgedFriends: She first met Kyousuke and Lu while fighting them.
* FirstNameBasis: Only ever referred to by her first name. Volume 6 finally reveals her surname, [[spoiler:Toydream]].
* FluffyTamer: She lives with a five-meter long white liger, and isn't at all concerned about it hurting her.
* HiddenDepths: She isn't a shut-in out of personal preference, but because [[InvisibleToNormals her status as a high-ranking summoner makes it impossible for her to form proper connections with most people]]. The only people in her life that won't forget about her are Kyousuke, Lu Niang Lan, and her Government contacts. [[spoiler:She also stays in the apartment to protect the Founder's Gallery, a museum that once belonged to her grandfather]].
* LittleSisterHeroine: Invoked and exaggerated. She doesn't just call Kyousuke "brother", she deliberately [[LethalChef cooks badly]] on the grounds that a little sister isn't meant to be able to cook. At one point, she claims she's planning on getting a bone marrow transplant so that she literally has the same blood in her veins as him.
* UrbanLegends: Her tendency to go out at night with her liger has led to a legend about a girl who was killed by a lion at the zoo, then came back as a ghost that tries to feed others to said lion. [[spoiler:She's also the World's Happiest Girl, a modern-day fairy tale heroine whose identity is unknown. Her grandfather had written a book whose heroine was based on her, but when she became a summoner, all memories of her were forgotten]].
* WalkingSwimsuitScene: She constantly wears a bikini because normal clothes would soak up the oil in the liger's fur.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Maria Heartocean]]
A summoner and scientist with a high status in Government, who specialises in research on spiritual damage. She is the leading researcher on the Anthill Project[[labelnote:Click here to see spoilers]]which is a means of mass-producing vessels[[/labelnote]]. Despite having an Award of 109, she has never fought a single summoning battle. Her summoning name is Academia, and her Blood Sign (if she has one) is unknown.
----
* NonActionGuy: Managed to get a high rank as a summoner despite never fighting a single battle.
* PoweredArmor: For a brief period in Volume 3, she wears a suit called a Water Bear, to protect against assassinations.
* TheStoic: Tends not to react much to the events around her, even when her life is in danger.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Max Layard]]
A summoner with an Award of 501. He has a very brief appearance in Volume 1 as one of the Government summoners defeated by Kyousuke, and has a much bigger role in Volume 4. In the latter volume, he works with Ellie Slide as one of the main antagonists.

Max's summoning name is Perfect Game, and his Blood Sign is made out of the same material as skis, with a metallic stabiliser on the bottom end.
----
* ButtMonkey: To some extent. He is literally sent flying in Volume 1, when Kyousuke knocks away the Incense Grenade he threw. In Volume 4, he very nearly gets eaten by a dinosaur created by the White Queen.
* TookALevelInBadass: With Ellie's support, his combat effectiveness is (supposedly) raised by an equivalent of 500 Awards.
* TheWorfEffect: He loses his first battles with Kyousuke in both the volumes he appears in. And in his second fight in Volume 4, he teams up with two other summoners, yet still gets beaten easily by Kyousuke.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: Works with [[spoiler:Mika in order to prevent the Deltaston's attempt at killing the White Queen, since this would only encourage further attempts that would be equally-futile but require many people to be sacrificed]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Ellie Slide]]
A well-known vessel and incense specialist. She has the epithet Amplifier 500, reflecting her ability to raise her summoner's upper limits by 500 Awards.
----
* AboveGoodAndEvil: Her only goal is to raise her summoner to Award 1000. She doesn't care how this is achieved, or what the consequences are for others.
* ChemistryCanDoAnything: Her many blends of incense can be used to achieve an incredible variety of effects, even being compared to magic by Kyousuke.
* InformedAbility: She can supposedly raise her summoner's level by roughly 500 Awards. The actual outcomes of her and Max's fights... don't reflect his.
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: She can inflict this using her incense, [[spoiler:and is the one responsible for Kyousuke's memory loss at the beginning of Volume 4]].
* WellIntentionedExtremist: Works with [[spoiler:Mika in order to prevent the Deltaston's attempt at killing the White Queen, since this would only encourage further attempts that would be equally-futile but require many people to be sacrificed]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Humanism]]
A former leader of Government. Despite being around ten years old, she had progressed through all the three factions and reached an Award of 2799. Along with Open Bluff and Perfect Equilibrium, she was one of the backers behind the Fifteen Siblings Project.[[labelnote:Click here to see spoilers]]She was killed in the Secret War while fighting the White Queen.[[/labelnote]]

Her Blood Sign was of a primitive design, and carved from a sacred tree.
----
* AscendedToAHigherPlaneOfExistence: Apparently, she deliberately chose not to become a Material despite reaching Award 1000, claiming that she'd only do so once humanity no longer knew sorrow.
* TheArchmage: At Award 2799, she's one of the highest-ranking summoners to appear in the series.
* ChildProdigy: It isn't just a case of OlderThanTheyLook - the narration explicitly describes her as being around the same age as the young Kyousuke.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:The Saint]]
A high-ranking summoner in Government, with an Award level of 666, who specializes in summoning Christian angels. However, she falls victim to the allure of the White Queen, and becomes a member of a new cult dedicated to her, Bridesmaid.
----
* FaceHeelTurn: She used to be a dedicated member of Government, but exposure to the White Queen turned her into a devoted cultist, like so many others.
* NumberOfTheBeast: Her Award level. This is apparently deliberate, as it's noted that her actual level of skill is well above this.
* NunTooHoly: Under her nun's habit, she wears red lingerie. When she gets serious, the habit comes off and her hat changes shape, causing her to resemble a HotWitch.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Elvast Toydream]]
The tyrannical former leader of Government. He had reached the legendary level of Award 1000, becoming one of the Thousand Eaters. Prior to the beginning of the series, he was assassinated by[[labelnote:Click here to see spoilers]]his own vessel, Lu Niang Lan. However, it turned out that he'd survived, and he returns in Volume 6 trying to take her back. At the end, she kills him once and for all.[[/labelnote]]

His Blood Sign is made of gold and is normally kept within his shadow.
----
* CurbStompBattle: Always on the giving end of these. [[spoiler:In their first encounter in Volume 6, he defeats Kyousuke instantly! And Kyousuke never manages to defeat him, despite his best efforts. He's only ever defeated by surprise attacks, never losing a single straight fight]].
* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: A literal example; he destroys one of the White Queen's bodies by punching through her! True, that body was much weaker than her usual self (and the Queen wasn't trying to fight back) but it's still an unbelievable achievement.
* TheDreaded: Just seeing him fills Kyousuke with fear, and causes [[spoiler:Lu Niang Lan]] to break down.
* MadeOfIron: Even without a protective circle, he can receive a barrage of attacks from Lu Niang Lan without injury. Even blowing up the building he's in doesn't do anything. It lends some credence to the idea that Award 1000 summoners are no longer human...
* OneHitKill: He can summon the White Queen as his very first Material, something considered impossible by everyone else. This allows him to win any summoning battle on his first move.
[[/folder]]

!Illegal
!!Illegal In General
One of the three major factions of summoners, comprising 330 large criminal organisations. However, said organisations don't operate with any sort of unity. The faction is overseen by the Wicked Green Woman who Fills the World with Empty Treasure.
----
%%zce* ArmyOfThievesAndWhores
* TheClan: Blood ties are often important for many of the criminal organisations.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Though said standards aren't necessarily the same as what most people have, nor are they consistent within Illegal. Each of the various Illegal groups tends to have their own sets of rules, which they will not violate.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: Lu Niang Lan claims that their underlying goal is to destroy the current corrupt system and build a better world.
----

[[folder:Lu Niang Lan]]
An agent of Illegal, who's neither a summmoner nor a vessel. Despite this, she has managed to reach the Award 100 level. She has a number of jobs, including working as an assassin and running a shop with summoning-related goods.[[labelnote:Click here to see spoilers]]In the past, she was the vessel of Elvast Toydream. Eventually, she managed to stab him in the back and escape[[/labelnote]].
----
%%* ActionGirl
* ArmorPiercingAttack: She can deliver a palm strike that sends vibrations through armor, which can create bubbles in a person's lungs or the acid of a vehicle's battery.
* BadassNormal: She routinely takes on summoners with no magic of her own, can erase her presence ''while still in plain view'', and at one point disables an armored vehicle with her bare hands. Though she isn't quite 'normal', as explained under SuperBreedingProgram.
* BlaseBoast: She likes to remind people that she is the Perfect Dragon [[spoiler:who killed Elvast]], regardless of how relevant it is to the conversation.
* CasanovaWannabe: It is Kyousuke's opinion that Lu's never had sex and only ''acts'' like she has.
* CoolBigSis: To Kyousuke, in contrast to Aika. Parodied when she gets into a contest with [[spoiler:Biondetta]] over this.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: [[spoiler:She was once a vessel for the leader of Government, who kept her in a cage like an animal]].
* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: In her past, she once killed an Award 1000 summoner without any magic. [[spoiler:It was the former leader of Government, Elvast Toydream, and she was his vessel at the time. She stabbed him in the back, but he was later revealed to have survived. When he reappears in Volume 6, he defeats her in a summoning battle, which would normally make her helpless for 24 hours. Despite this, she manages to land a lethal blow, killing Elvast once and for all]].
* DoesNotLikeMagic: Despite having talent as a vessel, she refuses to be one, fighting solely through martial arts and weapons. This is due to her DarkAndTroubledPast.
* FullNameBasis: She's usually referred to by her full name.
* HeroicBSOD: Parodied. When [[spoiler:Biondetta allies with Kyousuke and starts reasserting her role as his "elder sister"]], Lu is shocked at her role being taken away from her. Played straight in volume 6, when her "master" returns to imprison her again.
* HyperspaceArsenal: She specializes in using hidden weapons, despite having very little room to logically hide them.
* RedBaron: "Perfect Dragon".
%%* SeriousBusiness:
* {{Stripperiffic}}: Her usual outfit [[NavelDeepNeckline has an opening that reaches her navel]], and the [[SexySlitDress sides are slit all the way up to her hips]].
* SuperBreedingProgram: She was the result of a program that bred together people of all races, aiming to create the ideal human.
* SuperPrototype: Following the above, other attempts were made to mass-produce people like her. Volume 6 features one of these, an assassin-for-hire known as 3A.
* TapOnTheHead: Knocks out Kyousuke in this way in Volume 2, to forcibly extract him from the battle at the airport.
* TokenEvilTeammate: Out of the main cast, she's the most morally-ambiguous, often butting heads with Aika for this reason. She is explicitly an assassin and also performs a number of other criminal acts, such as getting rid of corpses. However, she claims that she (and Illegal in general) are working to improve the world.
* YouKeepTellingYourselfThat: After the stock market crash in volume 8, she becomes an EmptyShell, babbling about "riding the wave" and gold nuggets as she stares blankly at the ceiling.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Hayato Yasuzumi]]
A strange summoner who first appears at the airport battle in Volume 2. Despite only being around twelve years old, he is a summoner and a member of the Illegal organisation Killer Intent Antenna.[[labelnote:Click here to see spoilers]]He is the son of Reiji Yasuzumi, another summoner and the former head of the group. After Reiji died, his vessel Fuuki decided to form a contract with Hayato and train him as Reiji's successor. Along with Fuuki, he is one of the main antagonists of Volume 2.[[/labelnote]]
----
* ChildSoldiers: A well-known assassin at the age of twelve.
* CosmicRetcon: [[spoiler:After Kyousuke prevents Shouko's murder via TimeTravel, Fuuki's and Hayato's plan was erased from history. The current Hayato seems to now be an ordinary child]].
* GravityScrew: His summoning style revolves around repeatedly breaking the ground, changing the direction of gravity to the next surface he touches.
* ImmortalitySeeker: [[spoiler:He wants to make all people immortal through the use of the summoning ceremony]].
* WellIntentionedExtremist: [[spoiler:Wants to grant the whole world immortality, and won't hesitate to kill to achieve it]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Mika Himekawa]]
A vessel in Illegal, and one of the Holy Key Women. She is Kyousuke's vessel in Volume 4, having asked his help to save her fellows. She also bears an uncanny resemblance to Masami Shigara (aka Madam Professor).[[labelnote:Click here to see spoilers]]She is secretly one of the main antagonists of the volume. All of the Holy Key Women's souls had been fused into her body (though she remained in control) and she had in fact given up on saving any. Instead, she aimed to prevent this happening again, and allied with Max Layard and Ellie Slide for this purpose.[[/labelnote]]
----
* ManySpiritsInsideOfOne: [[spoiler:After an attempt at summoning the Wicked Green Woman, the souls of the Holy Key Women weren't able to return to their original bodies. All of them were trapped in Mika's body. By the end of Volume 4, she's no longer in this state]].
* ReluctantFanserviceGirl: Is embarrassed when she has to put on a racing swimsuit for infiltrating Pandemonium. Though unlike many examples of this trope, she actually sought out the swimsuit herself, thinking it was needed for the infiltration (as opposed to a wetsuit, like Kyousuke brought).
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Open Bluff]]
A former leader of Illegal. He had an Award of 0, having never bound a contract with a vessel or summoned a Material. Despite this, he was able to maintain his position through fear alone. Alongside Humanism and Perfect Equilibrium, he was one of the backers behind the Fifteen Siblings Project.[[labelnote:Click here to see spoilers]]He was killed while fighting in the Secret War, having decided to take to the battlefield for the first time.[[/labelnote]]
----
* BadassNormal: An example achieved entirely without fighting. It bears emphasizing that as a normal human, he would unavoidably forget about summoners and vessels out of his sight. And yet he was able to lead a faction of summoners, by maintaining the facade that he was actually dangerous.
%%* MeaningfulName
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: Like the other three leaders introduced in Volume 5.

[[folder:Azalea Magentarain]]
The daughter of the president of the Quad Motors corporation, and a high-ranking summoner in Government, having achieved Award 930. She specialises in urban battles, and prefers to use the White Queen as her Material. However, it turns out that she is actually a member of Guard of Honor, and is the main antagonist of Volume 1.

Azalea's original summoning name was Golden Luxury, but she goes by Uniquely Selfless as part of Guard of Honor. She uses a range of Blood Signs, all made from ribbons.
----
* TheAce: She's a legendary summoner that gives Kyousuke trouble in their first fight. She's also responsible for designing some of Quad Motor's products, and is a skilled enough actress that no-one suspected her allegiance to Guard of Honor.
* AnimalMotifs: Hawks, one of which is her vessel. The usual 'hunting' symbolism applies here.
* BottomlessMagazines: Her summoning strategy involves ricocheting White Thorns off objects or the walls of the Artificial Sacred Ground, causing them to return to her for reuse.
* BlueBlood: Though she's an illegitimate child, she nevertheless managed to attain a high status.
* GratuitousFrench: Uses "un, deux, trois" when in a summoning battle.
* HeelFaceTurn: When [[spoiler:Kyousuke forces her to realise that her obsession with the White Queen isn't what Claude wanted]]. As of Volume 9, she is amiably serving her time in prison.
* LuxuryPrisonSuite: Given her immense wealth, the "jail" she goes to is more like a tropical vacation. She even gets to keep her butler.
* ThePowerOfLove: Claude's influence cured her of [[EldritchAbomination White Queen's]], once she realized the two were incompatible.
* TookALevelInBadass: During her return in Volume 6, she proves to be an even bigger threat than before, making use of Repliglass technology to supplement her summoning and devising a means of exploiting Kyousuke's weakness.
* WellDoneSonGuy: He's not her father, but her actions are all to win Claude's approval. [[spoiler:She breaks down after realising that Claude opposes the White Queen, so her actions would in fact do the opposite]].

* StraightMan: Plays this role to Azalea.
* UndyingLoyalty: To Azalea, and formerly to Claude.

[[folder:Akiya Rendou]]

* DarkAndTroubledPast: Her older sister Shouko was murdered when she was young, which had a lingering effect on her psyche. After Hayato and Fuuki were defeated, the distortions stopped and Shouko returned to the past, where she expected to die. However, Kyousuke decided to follow her and stop the murderer. 479* TheMole: A rare benevolent example. She couldn't stop the Project from going forward, so she entered it to act as a mentor and friend to the captured children.
* MoralityChain: Her main role in Volume 9 is to steer the White Queen back onto sensible trains of thought when she gets irrational.

* CoolBigSis: Invoked this for Kyousuke and Biondetta, and the other siblings.
* {{Cosplay}}: Her favourite hobby. She designed and created outfits for several other siblings to wear (such as Biondetta's first waitress costume) and she herself went around in a copy of the White Queen's dress.

* CloudCuckoolander: She has an inexplicable obsession with various aspects of Japanese culture, such as ninjas, and tends to squee when she encounters anything that reminds her of them.
* {{Stripperific}}: Her usual outfit is composed of bandages and transparent veils. She switches to a much less revealing yukata when [[spoiler:acting as Kyousuke's vessel]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Olivia Highland]]
The princess of Kingdom F, and Kyousuke's vessel prior to the start of the series. Kyousuke formed a contract with her as part of a job to settle the civil war in her country. 532* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler:After Kyousuke makes her realize the true nature of the Queen, she changes sides and becomes his vessel again]].
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: Like everyone else in her kingdom, she sees the White Queen as a benevolent figure, and can't understand why Kyousuke rejected her.
* LittleSisterHeroine: To the point that she and Aika are bitter rivals.
* PureIsNotGood: Unlike most other cultists, Olivia isn't serving the Queen for selfish reasons- she just genuinely believes it's the moral thing to do. This is the main reason it's so hard to convince her otherwise.
* ShipperOnDeck: A rare tragic example. She ships Kyousuke with the Queen because she thinks it would bring world peace (ItMakesSenseInContext) and that it would make them happy.
* SomethingAboutARose: She wears a pink rose emblem on her clothing.
* WalkingSwimsuitScene: She constantly wears a school swimsuit, apparently because (thanks to her kingdom being landlocked) she's obsessed with swimming. This makes her an amusing foil to Aika.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Sinceria Highland]]
The queen of Kingdom F and Olivia's mother.
----
* BeneathTheMask: Every vessel has a 'binding' item unique to them, usually highly personal in nature, that prevents evil spirits from stealing their bodies. Sinceria's binding is [[spoiler:a locket containing a picture of her daughter and her husband (who was her former knight before he lost the title of strongest in the kingdom)]].
* BewareTheSillyOnes: She's a pretty chill person who teases her bodyguard, doesn't mind Olivia going on adventures, and flirts freely with men half her age. And now that all would-be usurpers of Flanguild are taken care of, she can enjoy all of those things even more.
* CondescendingCompassion: She respects Kyousuke...she just has this way of ignoring his refusal to marry into the family.
* EvenTheGirlsWantHer: Sinceria is seen as oozing beauty and attraction by both sexes. In fact, there's a legendary story about a secret meeting between Government, Illegal and Freedom leaders having to pause so that a female VIP could have their secretary tell them to restrain her attraction before it hindered the proceedings.
* OneWomanArmy: Kyousuke believes- entirely justifiably- that it would take a war to kill Sinceria.
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: She walks knowingly and serenely into a battle that even ''Kyousuke'' ran from. Turns out that when Kingdom F's people say it's a meritocracy, they are not fucking joking.
* {{Troll}}: She plays on Rachel's inferiority complex to motivate her.
* WorldsMostBeautifulWoman: Years of vessel-ing have given her an inhuman, ethereal appearance far beyond that of natural humanity. And elf ears, for some reason.

* DirtyCoward: The reason why he wants the Queen dead, and also why he never tried to kill her himself. Instead he forced a child soldier to do it.
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: He didn't anticipate that his pawn might not be afraid of the Queen, or think that she had a right to exist.
* EvilMentor: [[spoiler:When raising Kyousuke, he carefully arranged every aspect of his life in order to fashion him into an elite summoner]].
* GeniusBruiser: A genius scientist, and a skilled summoner and swordsman.
* MagicKnight: Uses a katana in addition to summoning. [[spoiler:This trope must run in the family]].
* ManipulativeBastard: An ingenious example. He manipulates [[spoiler:Olivia]] into fighting against Kyousuke. He leverages [[spoiler:his relationship with Kyousuke]] to keep [[spoiler:the White Queen]] under control. Notably, without his help, [[spoiler:Kyousuke would almost certainly have failed to defeat the White Queen]]. And in the past, [[spoiler:he was the one who trained Kyousuke and (supposedly) caused the White Queen to fall in love with him]]. Though it's hinted that he doesn't have as much control over the situation as he thinks. Kyousuke accuses him of simply taking credit for whatever happens, and [[spoiler:the White Queen was actually trying to lose]].
* MasterSwordsman: Is skilled enough at ''iai'' to cut apart Incense Grenades before they can detonate.
* OlderThanTheyLook: He has white hair, but really isn't elderly at all. Assuming that [[spoiler:he fathered Kyousuke at a normal age]], he'd probably be in his thirties. The apparent age is due to severe stress.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname
* ThrillSeeker: Specifically seeks out dangerous situations for the thrill of the moment. He'll even [[spoiler:say potentially antagonizing things to the White Queen, despite knowing that she could easily inflict a FateWorseThanDeath on him]].
* UnreliableNarrator: He says that he manufactured the Queen falling in love with Kyousuke, but a flashback shows him being surprised by it. He just wanted to create a perfect summoner that could use her without being distorted.

[[folder:Regulation-Class]]
The lowest level of Materials, which were created by humans as a stepping stone to reach the Divine-Class. They are all original to the series, unlike the Divine-Class that are based on real-life figures.
----
* BigCreepyCrawlies: The Greedy Demon-Devouring Spider, the Ugly and Pitiful Insect Swollen with Tragedy that Eats into the Void, and the Glittering Steel Mantis Reaper 05
* BlobMonster: The Original series, with a cost of 1. They come in three colours: yellow (high sound range), green (medium) and red (low).
* BoringButPractical: They may be weak among Materials, but against ordinary humans, they are still invincible super-strong monsters.
* ChekhovsGun: The very existence of the Regulation-Class means that new Materials can be invented by humans. This proves critical [[spoiler:in defeating the White Queen, as all existing Materials are subservient to her]].
* ComMons: The lowest category of Materials. They're still extremely dangerous to normal humans, though.
* GiantSquid: The DEC Tentacle is one with chains for tentacles.

* CelestialParagonsAndArchangels: The "archangels of a certain monotheistic religion" are mentioned to be part of the Divine-class.
%%* DemonLordsAndArchDevils: Lilith.
* GeniusBonus: In many cases, their actual names aren't used. Instead, they're described in terms of their legend: e.g. Indra is "a great man with golden eyes who summons lightning with a vajra".
* KrakenAndLeviathan: Leviathan appears in Volume 2.
* OurGodsAreDifferent: While they are the legendary figures of myth, they are completely under the control of humans. And while they have CompleteImmortality, so do all Materials in the series.
%%* PhysicalGod
* PowerCreepPowerSeep: The strength of a Material depends on the length of their name, so gods with short names like Set, Zeus or Odin are among the weaker members of the class regardless of their status in legends, while gods and monsters with longer names like Quetzalcoatl or Yamata-no-Orochi are of the strongest Divine-classes. Due to how the Summoning Ceremony works, even simple mythical creatures seen in Pliny’s Natural History like the Remora or the Amphisbaena can defeat gods.

[[folder:Unexplored-Class]]
The highest level of Materials, which represent the immutable laws of the universe that even gods must follow. Unlike the Divine-Class, they are all original to the series. In ascending order of cost, they are: the Gold Harlot who Serves the Killer Boxes; the Spirit of the Fluttering Yellow Gills that Rules the Heavens; the Wicked Green Woman who Fills the World with Empty Treasure; the Lady of Purple Lightning that Separates Good from Evil; the Red-Eyed Lady who Sees Through all Sin and Calamity; the Ashen Shrine Maiden who Invites Merciful and Dignified Death; and the White Queen who Wields the Sword of Unsullied Truth. 627* DifficultButAwesome: Getting the ability to summon them requires summoning 100 Regulation-Class and 50 Divine-Class first. But once you pull it off, they'll decimate any opponent.
* EnergyWeapon: The Lady of Purple Lightning can shoot these from her finger.
* HopeBringer: Even though the Red Lady has been defeated, her spirit was not. This is why she encourages Kyousuke to keep searching for a way to defeat the White Queen, even though neither of them can believe that such a way exists.
* SerialEscalation: More powerful than literal gods.

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/white_queen.jpg]]
The White Queen who Wields the Sword of Unsullied Truth. The apex of the Unexplored-Class. The ultimate Material. Considered to be the most powerful, the most beautiful, and the most benevolent being in existence. The main heroine and the main antagonist of the series, the White Queen can be summed up as a love-obsessed EldritchAbomination. She is completely head-over-heels for Kyousuke, though [[UnreliableNarrator he claims she is really just in love with the idea of love]]. The Queen herself is the target of countless schemes to exploit her power, which drive many of the story arcs.
----
* AffablyEvil: Never anything less than flirty with Kyousuke, regardless of the situation.
* AnimalMotifs: [[spoiler:Hedgehogs, which are all sharp and dangerous on one side and entirely vulnerable on the other. In the ''Alice in Wonderland'' story, the Queen of Hearts' courtiers often had to wrangle hedgehogs.]]
* ArmorPiercingAttack: She can freely attack summoners within a protective circle.
* AttentionDeficitOohShiny: She easily becomes distracted by even the hint of being able to do something romantic with Kyousuke. One example is when he claims he'll ride a Ferris wheel with her, and she's so excited that she doesn't realise that it has a thirty minute waiting period. Since she has less than ten minutes of summoning time left, she disappears before getting anywhere near the Ferris wheel.
* AsskickingLeadsToLeadership: Her absolute power means that Regulation-Class and Divine-Class Materials are too afraid to even attack her. Only other Unexplored-Class can resist her at all. [[spoiler:And after defeating the other Unexplored-Class in the Secret War, even they submitted to her. As a result, nothing in the entire universe can truly defeat her]].
%%* BigBad
%%* CassandraTruth: [[spoiler:Put simply, Kyousuke doesn't treat her like a victim because she doesn't ''act'' like one. So he took her killing of Akura as the act of a monster rather than that of a wronged party blinded by their shame.]]
* CharacterFilibuster: In response to Kyousuke's filibuster, the Queen yells back that he's an idiot who clings onto the past.
* CharmPerson: She's never without worshippers who'll lay down their lives for her. Just walking down the street is enough to leave summoners and vessels in awe at her presence. This effect apparently isn't supernatural, according to Volume 7.
* ClingyJealousGirl: She hates it when Kyousuke merely mentions another girl's name in front of her.
%%* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}:
* ColorMotif: White. She deliberately invokes the trope, even in the foods she cooks.
* CompleteImmortality: Nothing short of an Unexplored-Class Material can even injure her. Actually destroying her requires a saturation attack by hundreds of other Unexplored-Class or using her own power against her. But even if she is killed, she can return like any other Material. [[spoiler:Even the Colorless Little Girl, designed specifically to destroy her permanently, fails to actually kill her]].
* CommonalityConnection: Insofar as she favors ''anyone'', she favors fanatics and purehearted people, because she empathizes with them.
-->''(to the Zashiki Warashi)'' I understand completely!! If you love someone, it’s worth destroying a world or two or a history or two, isn’t it!? You appear to be wearing red, but I can smell a similar whiteness hidden inside you! I think we can get along quite well!!
* CosmicRetcon: [[spoiler:After conquering the other Unexplored-Class and hence the laws of the world, history was rewritten to accommodate her. Among other effects, this included causing her to be worshipped by Kingdom F and the Meinokawa shrine]].
* CovertPervert: Played with. Kyousuke knows she's peeking, and she knows that he knows, but she imitates the trope anyway.
* CuddleBug: Unfortunately for Kyousuke, she likes to surprise him with hugs from behind.
* CultureClash: When you are a Material, summoned solely through battle to protect whatever side has you, killing everyone on the other side becomes routine. So when she was summoned into [[spoiler:Kyousuke and his sister's forced battle to the death]], her line of thought basically went '[[spoiler:hello, new friend, I killed your enemy for you- why are you screaming?]]'. Notably, the next time he summons her she is ''much'' more careful.
* DesperatelySeekingAPurposeInLife: The Secret War started when she found someone she wanted to protect.
* DidNotSeeThatComing: She did not anticipate Operation March Hare, presumably because mortals would have to be suicidally insane to lie to her. (Also because it did not involve Kyousuke.)
* TheDreaded: To the few who know of her true nature.
* DramaticIrony: She is the goddess of victory (among other things), so people are always trying to summon her to win their battles for them. But by that same token, she will never respect anyone who doesn't strive for victory on their own. Her existence is basically one giant {{Troll}} to the human race: [[BraggingRightsReward anyone capable of consistently summoning her probably doesn't need to]].
* EnemySummoner: If she's in the human world for a prolonged period of time, she starts drawing in other Materials en-masse. This makes it extremely dangerous to summon her using non-Blood Sign methods (which lack a time limit).
* EntitledToHaveYou: In a Volume 9 scene, she assumes that getting Kyousuke's forgiveness will just be a matter of persistence. Shigara reminds her that with a perspective like that, she will fail and deserves to.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: She injures everyone aside from Kyousuke (including her summoner, something previously thought impossible) and spends all of her summoning time hitting on Kyousuke.
* {{Expy}}: She has a few similarities to Kurumi from Literature/DateALive. Both of them are powerful inhuman entities with twintails who are {{Yandere}} for the main character. Both of them have power over time, though unlike Kurumi, this is just one of the Queen's many powers. A notable difference is that the Queen was in love with Kyousuke to begin with and became dangerous to him later, whereas Kurumi initially just wanted to eat Shidou and developed romantic feelings for him later.
* EveryoneHasStandards: She is the cosmic embodiment of purity, but she does not care for Kyousuke's attempt to artificially purify [[spoiler:her by erasing emotions]]. In fact, she considers his goal to improve the world quite amusing- her reasoning is that as long as she's perfect and unchanged, what the world is simply doesn't matter.
* FailedASpotCheck: She tends to see what she ''wants'' to see, rather than what is actually in front of her, something which her alien perspective exacerbates.
-->''“Tch. Now that I look closer, this is a blonde and busty woman. You don’t look like my brother at all.”\
After the sound of something being spat out, something slid out from the hallway corner. The object symbolized a certain individual and it had been wadded up like a used tissue.''
* FatalFlaw: Pride. She actually does regret breaking her promise to Kyousuke [[note]]''only'' that, not the actual murder[[/note]] but she's never going to tell him that because [[InferioritySuperiorityComplex just the thought she may have made a mistake about anything ever gives her identity crises]]. So instead she just acts as if nothing happened, which pisses Kyousuke off even more.
* FaceHeelTurn: [[spoiler:Her current attitude is due to being forced to break her promise never to hurt anyone, in order to protect Kyousuke]].
* FreudianExcuse: The last time she let mortals forget who was in charge, they attempted to con her and destroyed the only meaningful relationship in her life.
* FreudianExcuseIsNoExcuse: Shigara tells her that there were better ways of dealing with her feelings than betraying Kyousuke to destroy '''everyone''' in a blind rampage.
* AGlassInTheHand: While she's cooking breakfast and Kyousuke brings up another girl's name, she crushes the handle of the frying pan she's holding. She then finishes cooking by holding the edge of the pan directly.
* GodIsEvil: She is perfect in every way except morally. This is terrifying.
* GodSaveUsFromTheQueen: Other Materials don't like her, primarily because she beat them all just to escape their realm. And the vast majority of humans only like her because of their delusion that she will be in any way useful to them.
* AGoodWayToDie: [[spoiler:When Kyousuke uses the Colorless Little Girl to kill her, the Queen remarks that it's not a bad way to die. After all, the fact that he created a Material capable of completely countering her is proof that he understood every aspect of her. And then it's completely subverted, when it turns out that she didn't actually die.]]
%%* HardLight: Her Sword.
* HumanoidAbomination: Her mere existence degrades the sanity/integrity of every human in the vicinity. Even if she doesn't do anything evil- or doesn't interact with people ''at all''. [[SlipperySlopeFallacy Just knowing that a supreme ideal power such as hers exists is enough to make people consider things they never would normally.]]
* HumbleGoal: Insofar as the Queen ''has'' a goal (she likes to go with the flow of events), it is to reconcile with her ex-boyfriend.
* TheImmodestOrgasm: While [[spoiler:contracting with Kyousuke]] in Volume 7.
* ImpossiblyCoolClothes: Her outfit is modeled on a wedding dress, yet never runs into problems like getting caught on things. Given her nature, this is probably intentional.
* InherentInTheSystem: She couldn't love before Doctor S's plans altered her, presumably because it would be very bad for the world if an apocalyptic being like her had any reason to take interest in it. As when she was both willing and able to destroy half the Earth's summoners and vessels to protect one boy.
* ILoveYouBecauseICantControlYou: Zigzagged. Her goal is to make Kyousuke willingly submit to her (i.e, without breaking his spirit), but she also likes toying with him when he's defeated and brainwashed. The whole "peacefully reconcile" thing is more of a Plan A.
* InferioritySuperiorityComplex: Her whole ''existence'' is based around purity, so the possibility that she could be corrupted even slightly terrifies her.
* InstantCostumeChange: She can change her clothing into whatever she wants. In Volume 4, she shows off a variety of outfits to Kyousuke using this.
* ItAmusedMe: Due to her immortality. She has no duties or physical needs, so she cares only about enjoying herself.
* InvincibleVillain: She's explicitly the most powerful entity in the series, almost impossible to beat in a fight, completely impossible to permanently destroy.
* JustToyingWithThem: All of her battles with Kyousuke. He can't pose any sort of threat to her, and she finds it enjoyable just to be in his presence.
* KillerRabbit: Regulation and Divine-level Materials are too intimidated by the Queen to even try attacking her. As Volume 5 shows, this was not always the case.
* LargeHam: She considers it entirely enjoyable and appropriate that people should faint from the sheer honor of her presence.
-->“Boo. Sneaking in the back way goes against my principles. Besides, I doubt even hiding on the dark side of the moon would mask my presence.”
* LightEmUp: She can shoot beams of light that disintegrate anything in their path.
%%* LightIsNotGood
* LittleSisterHeroine: Invokes this, despite it being fundamentally impossible for a human and a Material to be blood-related.
%%* LivingEmotionalCrutch:
* LonelyAtTheTop: The reason Kyousuke will never, ever [[EnemyMine fight alongside her]] (as he does with lesser villains) is because she's the greatest danger facing the world. For someone like him, who feels driven to atone for the Secret War, she is the most obvious target.
* LoveAtFirstSight: For some reason, she was in love with Kyousuke from the very moment he summoned her. This still hasn't been explained, though [[spoiler:Doctor S claims he had something to do with it]].
* LoveMakesYouEvil: The reason she slaughtered countless summoners during the Secret War [[spoiler:was to get to Kyousuke, and then to keep him alive when the summoners regrouped and attacked her again]].
%%* LoveMakesYouStupid:
* MakeAnExampleOfThem: Few people try to outright kill Kyousuke anymore, because everyone knows [[TheShortWar what happened]] to the last people who did.
* MagicFeather: As revealed in volume 8, [[spoiler:her powers don't function as well when she doubts the rightness of whatever she's doing with them]]. Normally, this isn't a problem because of her sociopathy.
* MagicalGirlfriend: A Deconstruction [[spoiler:and Reconstruction]] of the concept. She's inhumanly beautiful, unfathomably powerful and utterly devoted to Kyousuke... and only Kyousuke, seeing everyone else as less than bacteria. And her idea of "love" doesn't preclude making Kyousuke's life a living hell. [[spoiler:But she played the trope straight when first summoned]].
* MeaningfulName: [[spoiler:"Mary" can mean "mercy/grace". She was actually merciful, once.]]
* MundaneUtility:
** The power to transform her clothing into absolutely anything, used for... cosplaying.
** After crushing a frying pan's handle, she uses her invincibility to just hold the pan directly to finish cooking.
** She also exploits her supernatural attractiveness to have her worshippers give her and Kyousuke money so that he can buy her ice cream at a festival.
%%* MyNameIsInigoMontoya
* MoralityChain: The only reason she even notices humans' deaths is because Kyousuke does. And 'noticing' does not equal 'caring'.
%%* MysticalWhiteHair
* NightmareFetishist: She doesn't mind that Kyousuke was trained to kill her at all.
* NonindicativeName: The Sword of Unsullied Truth mentioned in her title is actually her white dress, which can transform into any kind of weapon, not just swords.
%%* NormallyIWouldBeDeadNow:
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: There is one scene in which she acts seriously: [[spoiler:when Kyousuke was about to die in the Secret War]].
* OddCouple: She's enthusiastic and shining and impractically dressed; Kyousuke is...not.
* PersonalityBloodTypes: Parodied. In Volume 4, she excitedly watches a TV show discussing blood types and their relevance to romance, despite (as Kyousuke points out) not having any sort of human blood type herself. When the show mentions that Type A boys are compatible with Type AB girls, [[{{Yandere}} she decides to kill all Type AB girls in the world]].
* APartyAlsoKnownAsAnOrgy: Her cultists tend to be...hedonistic. ([[{{Squick}} Yes, even children like Azalea.]]) It's one manifestation of the madness she spreads.
* ThePowerOfLove: She could not defeat ''all'' the other Unexplored-classes combined before they were summoned en masse to kill Kyousuke...but then, she was [[BrilliantButLazy never]] really ''trying'' before.
* PrettyInMink: Wears a ruff around her shoulders [[TheNeedless for aesthetic value]]. It's never said what type the fur is ([[MorphWeapon or even if it's fur at all]]), but going by [[CosmicHorrorStory established symbolism]] it's probably rabbit.
* OrcusOnHerThrone: Her life consists basically of chilling out in the realm of Materials, watching humans do interesting things and waiting for Kyousuke to get involved in those things so she can show up in his life at dramatically appropriate moments.
* RealityWarper: [[spoiler:Due to forcing the other Unexplored-Class Materials, who represent the laws of the world, to submit to her, she has authority over literally everything in the universe]].
* RippleEffectProofMemory: Changes to the timeline don't affect her at all. [[spoiler:When Kyousuke saves the Rainy Girl from her would-be murderer in the past, completely undoing the events of Volume 2, the Queen is aware of it and congratulates him]].
* RPGElements: In Volume 7, the Queen's abilities are represented in the manner of an RPG status screen when [[spoiler:the Colorless Little Girl analyses her]]. This serves to emphasize her incredible power; among other things, she has very high stats (such as over 2 billion HP), complete resistance to all elements and status effects, and no weaknesses besides Kyousuke.
* SatelliteCharacter: All of her actions, without exception, are for the same purpose. In her own words:
-->'''White Queen:''' "No matter what kind of hell I am swallowed up by, I will never want to do anything more than flirt with you, brother.”
%%* SelfDuplication
* SealedEvilInACan: At the beginning of time, it was the other Unexplored's job to keep her from leaving the world of materials. They failed, [[ApocalypseHow and, well...]]
* {{Shapeshifting}}: Can change into a variety of different forms, including animals, plants and machines.
* SignatureScent: A cloying sweetness.
%%* SingleWomanSeekingGoodMan:
* SizeShifter: She can freely change her size, including growing large enough to pull a helicopter from the sky. [[spoiler:She demonstrates this while chasing Kyousuke in Volume 5]]. It relates to her motif as Alice, who also changed size (albeit not under her own power).
* SpontaneousWeaponCreation: One of her most-used abilities is creating an unlimited number and variety of weapons from her dress.
* StalkerWithACrush: Probably the reason she always knows what Kyousuke is up to even when they're not occupying the same realm.
* StarfishAliens: No need for oxygen, amused by mortal priorities, and not a being that human language comes naturally to. In her more hurt moments, she can barely speak at all.
-->[[spoiler:"No fair..."]]
* SuperpowerLottery:
** The clear winner. She is unambiguously the most powerful being in the series, immediately [[CurbStompBattle curb-stomping]] almost all her opponents. The only times she's ever defeated are through an attack by all of the other Unexplored-Class [[spoiler:(which no longer works)]] or by using her own power against her. [[spoiler:Or by an artificial Unexplored-Class Material designed solely to counter her]].
** If crossovers are any indication, she's the most powerful being in all Kamachi's series. Among other things, she can swing around an [[Literature/HeavyObject Object]] with no effort, and completely NoSell [[Literature/TheZashikiWarashiOfIntellectualVillage Yukari's]] ability to change the destiny of the entire universe.
* ThatManIsDead: How her "defeat" in Volume 7 works. She's still alive, but her reputation as the strongest- which [[ClapYourHandsIfYouBelieve contributed a lot]] to her power and influence- is gone. So she must rely on other gods' worshipers to keep herself manifested in the human world.
%%* ThenLetMeBeEvil:
* ThinksLikeARomanceNovel: Having no personal experience of love, she likes to defer to [[LoveTropes tradition]].
* TimeMaster: She can slow down time, and is herself immune to any changes to the timeline.
* TopGod: Technically, the top Unexplored-Class Material, but in all other aspects she fits this trope.
* TomTheDarkLord: [[spoiler:Was given the name "Mary Ann" by Kyousuke, although he never uses it anymore]].
* TooMuchAlike: The Queen and Kyousuke are both insanely stubborn, so their breakup is akin to an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object. She thinks it's only temporary, but then she doesn't have much experience of people like him, so it's unclear if she's right.
* UnskilledButStrong: She never bothers to use any skill when fighting, because she doesn't need it at all. Though this is merely the impression she usually gives. Volume 7 reveals that she's actually supernaturally skilled in all possible fields.
* UniquenessValue: The reason she's so trigger-happy when protecting Kyousuke. He's the only being in all of time who's perfectly immune to her influence, and sure, she ''could'' easily disable his enemies without killing them, but that's so tiresome, and he's just so fragile (by her standards) that the only way to ''really'' be sure he's safe is to nuke everyone and put their heads on sticks.
* VillainWithGoodPublicity: Worship of her appears to have actually supplanted the other major religions.
* WeCanRuleTogether: Repeatedly makes this offer to Kyousuke, usually framing it in terms of solving the problems in the world.
%%* WhiteHairBlackHeart
* TheWorfEffect: [[spoiler:In-universe. People ''panic'' when she is defeated.]]
%%* WoundedGazelleGambit:
* WouldHurtAChild: She killed many of the Fifteen Siblings in retaliation for their attempt to control her.
%%* WorthIt: Being an EldritchAbomination, falling in love literally [[TheCorruption altered her psyche]], led to the deaths of millions of innocent people, and destabilized the world.
* {{Yandere}}: Her defining character trait. The ''only'' reason she tries to persuade him to love her is because subduing him eats into the time they have together.
* YouDidntAsk: She knew [[spoiler:Wisdom, an undiscovered omniscient Material]] existed, but she never saw the need to mention it until the GrandFinale because she was fixated on Kyousuke.
%%* YouNeverDidThatForMe:
* ZombieApocalypse: In Volume 7, [[spoiler:she gains the ability to turn vessels into a copy of her with a bite. Unlike other occasions where there were multiple versions of her, the copies are fully subservient to the original]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Colorless Little Girl]]
The Colorless Little Girl Dedicated to a Single Goal is an Unexplored-Class[[labelnote:Click here to see spoilers]]created by Kyousuke for the sole purpose of countering the White Queen. Due to being freshly created, she is outside of the White Queen's otherwise-absolute dominion over the universe. Her official name (aie – a – oio – ei – ueo – ioa – e – uai – ee) is constructed entirely from the vowels of the lowest sound range. She has a cost of 21 and no sound range, like the White Queen and Black Maw.[[/labelnote]]
----
* AnimalMotifs: Her personal name is RQ Cat and her hair is shaped like cat ears, in a setting where cats symbolize hate. Since she only exists to conquer the Queen, it makes sense.
* AscendedToAHigherPlaneOfExistence: In a different way than [[spoiler:Shigara]]. Although a prodigious summoner in life, she earned no Awards before her annihilation at the Queen's hands. [[spoiler:Then her brother forged her into a Material.]]
* AwesomenessByAnalysis: By understanding everything about [[spoiler:the White Queen]], she can calculate a surefire strategy for victory.
* CameBackStrong: She lost about as badly as it is possible to lose. But it was the last time she ever did.
* ColorMotif: Inverted. She's the only Unexplored-Class not associated with a color. Instead, her body is entirely transparent. This reflects her nature as a being [[spoiler:who exists outside of the White Queen's domination of all the colors]].
* CripplingOverspecialisation: As her name makes clear, she was designed to perform one function - [[spoiler:destroying the White Queen]]. But when summoned, ''she will fulfill that function''.
* LittleSisterHeroine: Invoked. [[spoiler:By acting in this manner to Kyousuke, she can exploit the White Queen's jealousy to make her act without thinking]].
* MeetTheNewBoss: [[spoiler:At the end of Volume 7, the White Queen claims that the Girl will become this. Not only is she an incredibly powerful Unexplored-Class, but she is also in love with Kyousuke]].
* MoreDakka: Her skirt consists of numerous machines, including firearms. These can unleash a barrage of bullets that, once they're inside the target, turn into melee weapons to inflict more damage.
* RealityWarper: [[spoiler:She can remove all of the White Queen's influence, from both the human world and the Material world, and gather it in a single point in order to negate the Queen's immortality]].
* SetSwordsToStun: She can make her attacks non-lethal, and uses this to [[spoiler:free the vessels infected by the White Queen]].
* SuperpowerLottery: [[spoiler:She can counter literally everything the White Queen can throw at her, and even erase her influence from the entire universe in order to kill her for real]].
* TheQuietOne: She doesn't talk much, partly because she is young and inexperienced socially.
* ThouShaltNotKill: She ''can'', but she prefers to follow her nii-sama's way of doing things. But she doesn't mind severely endangering people, as by, say, breaking into a submarine.
* TimeMaster: Can alter the flow of time, including extending the ten minutes of the summoning ceremony to an arbitrary length.
* {{Tykebomb}}: ''"She had been made at someone else’s convenience, she had killed at someone else’s convenience, and she had broken at no one’s convenience."''
* UnfinishedBusiness: [[spoiler:In her last moments of human life, she promised her brother she would save him. And she did.]]
* UnwantedRescue: She won't ask Kyousuke to help her because she doesn't want him to get hurt.
%%* WalkingSpoiler
* SoWhatDoWeDoNow: Even the Girl's creator didn't really believe she could fulfil her purpose, so he never gave her anything else to do. The version of her that shows up in volume 8 is slightly cuckoo because of that (and because of being summoned incorrectly).
* TheWorfEffect: On the giving end of this; her one and only fight has her completely [[CurbStompBattle curb-stomping]] [[spoiler:the White Queen]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Black Maw]]
[[NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast The Black Maw That Swallows All]]. An uncontrollable Material that no one aims to summon, instead acting as a penalty for the unwary. If a summoner breaks one of two Taboos (hitting an equal number of high, middle and low sounds into Spots, or a White Thorn entering a spot when they have no White Thorns in stock) their Material will transform into the Black Maw and devour them. It then transforms back into the vessel, whose mind will be completely shattered.[[labelnote:Click here to see spoilers]]It is also another facet of the White Queen[[/labelnote]].
----
* ArmorPiercingAttack: Can pierce the protective circle to attack its own summoner, a trait shared with the White Queen [[spoiler:as they're the same entity]].
* ConsumingPassion: [[spoiler:If, and only if, she's summoned by Kyousuke, this trope applies]].
%%* DarkIsEvil
%%* TheDreaded
* EldritchAbomination: It appears as a tornado of black slime, the inside of which is lined with fangs. It can bypass the normally inviolable protective circle, and even destroys its vessel's mind afterwards.
* GoMadFromTheRevelation: Destroys its vessel's mind after being summoned. [[spoiler:The sole exception is Higan, as Kyousuke was able to transform her into another Material first]].
* GodzillaThreshold: Summoned by Kyousuke [[spoiler:to take on the White Queen, being another part of the Queen and having comparable power. The Black Maw wins, but Kyousuke is able to transform it into another Material before it eats him]].
* HumanoidAbomination: [[spoiler:Its true form, only revealed to Kyousuke, is a black mirror image of the White Queen (though with pure white eyes]].
* SwallowedWhole: Inflicts this on its summoner.
%%* {{Yandere}}: [[spoiler:To Kyousuke]].

[[folder:Wisdom]]
A database Material who ferries and filters information between the worlds. She is bodiless, being as infinite as knowledge itself, and colorless for the same reason. Her real name is too long to pronounce, akin to pi. Her pawn is Natsuginu Shiroyama.
----
* AkashicRecords: In the first volume, it was foreshadowed that the Queen was getting her information about humanity from something like the trope. That "[[IAmTheNoun something]]" was Wisdom.
* BlueAndOrangeMorality: She's basically a living antivirus who exists to keep the White Queen pure. Unfortunately, the world of humans looks like one big security vulnerability to her.
* {{Foil}}: She's the "omniscience" to the Queen's "omnipotence". Fittingly, the two look alike, but Wisdom is clothed in scraps and cables instead of the Sword of Truth because she doesn't have any of the Queen's power.
