->'''Played by:''' Massimiliano Caiazzo

A boy born into an infamous Camorra family, but wants nothing to do with it, and only wants to live a honest life. He is in prison for killing a guy who was raping his girlfriend (the reputation of Carmine's family didn't help him with the judges).
----
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: Most characters treat him like dirt, and think he is just a coward and a "sheep". Not just his own family, but also the other criminal families in town. When he went to prison, everyone thought he was destined to die soon.
* AnimalMotif: Often compared to a sheep because the villains consider him a coward for his mild and reserved nature. He may be a NiceGuy but he's very brave and tough when the situation calls for it, actually.
* BelligerentSexualTension: With Rosa in season 3. She initially wants to kill him as she believes he killed her brother, but they are obviously attracted to each other.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: He's one of the kindest characters in the series, but he will undoubtedly stand up for the ones he loves and kills the criminal who was assaulting and raping his girlfriend.
* ButtMonkey: He never catches a break, being loathed, insulted, and picked on by many characters who also want to kill him.
* ByronicHero: A heroic example but he qualifies: he committed an error which sent him to prison, suffers terribly, has a DarkAndTroubledPast which makes him lonely and brooding, and is physically attractive.
* CartwrightCurse: He has not much luck with women. His first girfriend is killed on their wedding day. [[spoiler:His second girlfriend leaves him at the altar]].
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: In the first two seasons, he's a brooding and reserved loner who prefers to avoid his enemies, except when he's very angry. Starting in season 3, he becomes snarky, carefree, with a random RunningGag of him giving candy to other people, and even playfully flirts with Rosa in an almost trollish way.
* DeadpanSnarker: After overcoming his grief and loneliness for all that happened to him, he shows a sarcastic and playful side, especially around Rosa Ricci. He often makes remarks around her which leave her annoyed, at least at first.
* DisappearedDad: His dad Gabriele has never been around in the Di Salvo family as he was arrested before the start of the story.
* EarnYourHappyEnding: [[spoiler:He's released from prison to raise alone his daughter Futura, with a new identity]].
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: When it's shown the money he used to buy a new shirt were from his job as a hairdresser, and not as a drug dealer as his brother would have liked. It shows his honest nature.
* ExcellentJudgeOfCharacter: In spite of Rosa Ricci's antagonism towards him at first, he pretty much falls in love with her from the first time he meets her. And he tells Filippo that she's just a lonely girl who genuinely needs to be loved and has a big heart despite her attitude. He's right.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: He's the Responsible Sibling who wants to find an honest job and future, while his brother Ezio is a criminal involved with the family business.
* FourTemperamentEnsemble: Of the main male friends quartet, he's the Melancholic. He's rather brooding, troubled and sad because of his origins and the crime he felt forced to commit to defend his girlfriend, but he's a kind, caring and good-hearted guy who wants to live a peaceful life with the ones he loves. With that being said, he becomes a lot more cheerful and playful since the start of S3.
* FriendlessBackground: He never had friends before going to prison and meeting Filippo. He had a girlfriend, though.
* TheGadfly: Shows a somewhat mischievous sense of humor since he TookALevelInCheerfulness. Especially around Rosa Ricci.
* GuileHero: He makes the plan to save Naditza from her ArrangedMarriage and make Filippo reunite with her. Though he also sacrifices himself in the process, letting himself get arrested to allow their escape.
* HeroicSacrifice: Non-lethal example. He lets himself get arrested again to let Filippo and Naditza escape.
* HeroWithBadPublicity: He doesn't have a good reputation because of his infamous Camorra family and because of the guy he killed in the first episode. It's the main reason why he's in prison, despite the fact that he just killed a rapist to defend his girlfriend.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Filippo. They become close almost immediately in prison. In season 1, they can only count on each other.
* {{Hunk}}: He looked slightly more awkward in S1, but he becomes definitely more muscular later, and overall he looks handsome and manly.
* JerkassBall: JustifiedTrope. [[spoiler:As Nina dies, he temporarily becomes more standoffish and rude, even to Filippo who tries to support and help him. And he even plans to kill Pirucchio, thinking he's the one who killed Nina, though he stops himself from doing it.]] He gets better, though.
* MrFanservice: He's quite the {{hunk}} and the series isn't shy about showing him shirtless.
* MyGreatestFailure: Not managing to [[spoiler:protect Nina as she got hit by the car that killed her, which makes him feel deeply depressed, angry and like he doesn't have a reason for living anymore]].
* NiceGuy: In spite of his ''many'' troubles and infamous origins, by nature he's a kind and honest guy with a good heart, and he's very loyal and protective.
* PapaWolf: He would do everything to protect his daughter, Futura. Even when his mother tries to take Futura from him.
* RevengeBeforeReason: In season 2, [[spoiler: he's determined to kill whoever killed his girlfriend Nina, and spends a long part of the season trying to understand who is the killer and plot his revenge. He changes his mind eventually, because he understands IfYouKillHimYouWillBeJustLikeHim, spares Pirucchio despite thinking he's guilty, and forgives Totò when he discovers the truth.]]
* TheSoCalledCoward: He's nicknamed "sheep" by the criminals who consider him a coward. He's actually one of the bravest characters, since he stands up for his beliefs and constantly rejects the criminal world, going against people who could easily kill him, especially in prison.
* SecondLove: With Rosa. [[spoiler:It doesn't work out in the end as she leaves him at the altar]].
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: Appearance-wise, he's the {{hunk}}y Manly Man to Filippo's more delicate-looking Sensitive Guy. Personality-wise, though, they're similar, with both sensitive and manly traits.
* SugarAndIcePersonality: PlayedWith; he's a genuinely NiceGuy at heart but due to his many troubles he becomes more sullen and cynical. He becomes more cheerful and playful later on thanks to genuine friendships which give him a reason to be happy again, especially Filippo.
* SympatheticMurderer: He clearly didn't kill a person for the sake of evil: he ended up in prison for killing a criminal who was raping and torturing his girlfriend Nina in front of him. The criminal he killed was also surrounded by his gang, when this happened.
* TookALevelInBadass: He becomes more skillful and tough as the series progress.
* TookALevelInCheerfulness: In the first two seasons, he's a troubled loner with a bitter and pessimistic attitude most of the time, and [[TraumaCongaLine understandbly so]]. By the end of season 2, his friends Filippo and Naditza made him happier. Starting in season 3, he's more carefree, sociable, and snarky.
* ToughLove: To Filippo, at times, to make him face the truth and make him tougher.
* TurnTheOtherCheek: [[spoiler: Despite all his anger and suffering, he eventually forgives Totò for killing Nina at the end of season 2. He also becomes friends with Gaetano in season 3, after the latter's HeelFaceTurn.]]
* TroubledButCute: A brooding loner who belongs to a criminal family, but is still a nice person with a very troubled and traumatic life. He's also good-looking and has girls in love with him, like Nina and [[spoiler: Rosa.]]
* TheUnfavorite: His mother considers him a disappointment for refusing to be a criminal, and has never tried to understand him.
* WhiteSheep: Carmine hates the criminal business of his family, and is against violence and murder.

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mffil.jpg]]
->'''Played by:''' Nicolas Maupas

A rich boy from Milan. He is in prison for accidentally killing one of his friends after taking drugs at a party.
----
* BelligerentSexualTension: With Naditza in most of season 1. They don't like each other at first, and Naditza is a {{Tsundere}}. They get together in the season 1 finale.
* BigDamnHeroes: Twice at the end of season 1. [[spoiler: He saves Pino who wanted to kill himself. And he saves Carmine from being killed by Ciro.]]
* BewareTheNiceOnes: He killed Ciro at the end of season one in order to protect Carmine. He also attacked Gaetano twice in season two.
* BreakTheCutie: He's introduced as a mellow NiceGuy and a talented piano player. Near the end of the first episode, he accidentally kills his best friend, and this leaves him broken, quiet, and nervous, especially when he ends up in prison.
* BrokenAce: A well-educated, rich, handsome, and talented boy with a bright future. Until he accidentally kills his friend and ends up in prison.
* ButtMonkey: In the first half of season 1, he is often bullied and beaten up by other inmates. He gets better.
* ClassicalAntiHero: Filippo is rather awkward and naive, with insecurities to overcome, and due to the situations he's clearly not accustomed to, he sometimes makes bad and inconsiderate choices. That said he's a good person at heart and absolutely brave and heroic when the situation calls for it.
* DecoyProtagonist: In season 1, he's ''the'' main protagonist who gets more focus than everyone, even Carmine. In season 2, he and Carmine are equal protagonists. However, Filippo ends up OutOfFocus in season 3 and is eventually PutOnABus in season 4.
* EarnYourHappyEnding: He was in the juvenile prison for three seasons until he got release from prison. Other than Gemma, he was the second person to survive in there.
* FishOutOfWater: In season 1, his main storyline is him being a NaiveNewcomer in prison. He has always been a spoiled rich boy who is oblivious to the criminal world, which makes him an easy target for the other inmates.
* FourTemperamentEnsemble: The Phlegmatic of the main male friends quartet. He's an artistic, thoughtful, kind, peaceful and generally quiet guy by nature, but also rather shy and insecure.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Carmine. They become close almost immediately in prison. In season 1, they can only count on each other.
* InSeriesNickname: He is called "Chiattillo" (meaning "preppy rich boy") more often than not. While the nickname was initially given to him by the antagonists, it's often used even by his friends Carmine, Gianni, Pino and by the adults in a benevolent way.
* MoralityPet: Becomes one to Pino starting in season 2. Pino TookALevelInKindness after Filippo saved his life.
* MaybeEverAfter: With Naditza.
* MommasBoy: His mother seems to have a preference for him, which frustrates his sister Anita. This is largely due to his piano skills and his mother counting on him, as she was a talented pianist herself but didn't manage to start a prolific career with that.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: He's desperate and genuinely feels like his life has come to an end given that he accidentally killed a close friend.
* NiceGuy: He has a bit of a temper in season 1, due to the frustrating prison life that was new to him and being surrounded by violent criminals who beat him up. But after his friendship with Carmine grows stronger, he accepts the situation, and he's constantly nice in season 2 and 3 (despite being somewhat prone to make bad choices at times).
* OutOfFocus: In season 3, he and his girlfriend Naditza are not as prominent characters as they were in the first two seasons.
* PoliticallyIncorrectHero: He gets better later, but says "filthy gypsy" after the Romani girl Naditza steals his wallet and his watch, and it's the reason why she dislikes him initially. [[spoiler: They end up falling in love, though.]]
* PutOnABus: [[spoiler:He's later released from prison towards the end of season 3.]]
* ShelteredAristocrat: Initially, since he has always lived a privileged life, he doesn't know how to deal with the other inmates, which cause him a lot of trouble. After a few bad experiences, he becomes much wiser.
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: Appearance-wise, he's the more delicate-looking Sensitive Guy to Carmine's {{hunk}}y Manly Man. Personality-wise, though, they're similar, with both sensitive and manly traits.
* TokenGoodTeammate: In season 1, during the brief period of "friendship" with Ciro's gang. He only hangs out with them to have a sort of protection since he was tired of being bullied. However, when Ciro makes his intentions clear, he's shown to firmly stay on Carmine's side.
* TookALevelInBadass: After being a foolish ShelteredAristocrat for most of season 1, [[spoiler: he kills Ciro to save Carmine in the season 1 finale.]]
* TurnTheOtherCheek: In season 2, he immediately accepts Pino as his friend, even though Pino spent most of season 1 being cruel to him.
* UptownBoy: To Naditza, while he's the rich guy and she's the poor one.

[[folder: Pino Pagano]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mfpin.jpeg]]
->'''Played by:''' Artem Tkachuk

A rather unstable AxCrazy boy who loves dogs and only lives with his mom. He's in prison for killing his mom's boyfriend, who secretly forced Pino's dog to fight in a dog fighting ring, leaving the animal hurt.
----
* AmbiguouslyBi: While he generally seems to be attracted by girls, he forces Filippo to jerk him off. It's not clear why he did that, though, and again he's [[AxCrazy not exactly the sanest guy around]].
* AnimalLover: While dogs are his favorites, he seems to have a soft spot for animals in general.
* AnimalMotifs: Dogs. His love for dogs is one of his main characteristics since season 1, and in season 3 he compares himself to a dog, when talking about his UndyingLoyalty to his loved ones.
* AntiHero: Clearly on the side of good after his HeelFaceTurn, but he's still rather violent and unstable in the first three seasons.
* AntiVillain: In the first season he's a bully with an antagonistic role, but he isn't really ''evil'' as he is instead emotionally unstable, possessive and ''very'' violent when he feels the situation calls for it, and yet he's an extremely loyal individual with his own noble side.
* AxCrazy: In his worst moments, he's cabable of extreme violence and even murder.
* BewareTheSillyOnes: He's one of the goofiest characters in the series, but he could get aggressive and violent like the rest of the characters, and he's easily one of the most menacing in a physical fight.
* BreakTheHaughty: In the mid season 2, after he found out that Gaetano killed his dog.
* BullyTurnedBuddy: Was a bully to Filippo in season 1, he becomes one of his closest friends in season 2 and 3.
* CharacterDevelopment: More than anyone arguably. He goes from a rude, obnoxious bully with AxCrazy and violent tendencies to a cheerful, goofy and friendly NiceGuy. His loyalty is pretty much the only thing he still maintains.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Easily one of the most eccentric characters. While he's shown to be quite AxCrazy at first, though, he later becomes a positive example, being a goofy and playful NiceGuy.
* CrazyJealousGuy: In season 3, he gets insanely jealous when another guy shows interest in Kubra. Averted in season 4, where he's a little jealous in the beginning, but eventually accepts his break-up with Kubra in a mature way, and even becomes friendly with his romantic rival Diego at the end of the season.
* TheCuckoolanderWasRight: He's ''not'' an emotionally stable person at first, and can be a goofball. However, in season 2, when his friends are discussing if Sasà is actually guilty of rape or just wrongly accused, Pino points out [[spoiler: that if such a rich, privileged young boy like Sasà ends up in prison, there's a good chance that he really did something bad. He was right, as proven a few episodes later.]]
* DefrostingIceKing: Although he's definitely a rude and angry hotheat instead of being cold or aloof. Though, in season two, he warms up to Filippo after saving his live and showing interest in Kubra makes him a better, nicer person.
* DrivenToSuicide: [[spoiler: He hangs himself after Gaetano kills his dog. Filippo saves him in time.]]
* EasilyForgiven: By Filippo, who becomes his friend in season 2. Pino didn't even apologize for the cruel way he treated Filippo in season 1, even forcing him to jerk him off in one scene.
* EvenBadMenLoveTheirMamas: Despite his frequent arguments with his mom and hating all her boyfriends, he still cares for her. His mother loves him too.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: ''Evil'' is a stretch as he never was malevolent to begin with, but he's an aggressive AntiVillain in the first season and yet he loves his mom (deep down) and his dog.
* FourTemperamentEnsemble: Of the main male friends quartet, he's the Choleric, being usually angry, violent, unstable, aggressive, AxCrazy and yet extremely loyal. {{Subverted}} later on as he just becomes cheerful, goofy and friendly.
* HeelFaceTurn: He spends most of season 1 being an aggressive and violent bully who works for Ciro, with his only good trait being his love for dogs seen in a flashback. At the end of the season, Ciro turns against him while Filippo saves Pino's life. Starting in season 2, Pino becomes friends with Filippo and Carmine, is much more caring and affectionate (he even falls in love with a girl), and his violent AxCrazy side only shows up rarely.
* HeroesLoveDogs: Though he is more of an AntiHero given his violent temper, but there's no doubt he loves dogs. Played straignt in S4 where he's firlmy established as a heroic character.
* IcyBlueEyes: Has blue eyes, is tough and a violent person.
* InnocentBigot: Falls in LoveAtFirstSight with a black girl named Kubra, but the first two meetings with her weren't great. He tries to compliment her beauty by calling her "the queen of the jungle", and she obviously doesn't react well. Then he tries to apologize with "I know you are black but I like you anyway". When they start a real relationsip, he's shown to be very sweet to her (if clingy and jealous).
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: By the time in season two, he may be violent, rough and nasty around the edges. But he cares for his mom, his friends and Kubra. He finally drops the "jerk" part in season 4, showing his CharacterDevelopment.
* LoonWithAHeartOfGold: From season 2 onwards. He still has a violent streak but is a loyal friend to Filippo (and later Carmine), and is deeply in love with his girlfriend Kubra. By season 4, he's not violent anymore and he's just as nice as Carmine and Gianni.
* NiceGuy: After he overcomes his violent temper and AxCrazy attitude, Pino is ultimately shown to be a kind and loyal friend, with a very playful and goofy side.
* NobleDemon: At first he's this. He's violent and unstable, and introduced as rather antagonistic, but he does have his values and is pretty much the personification of UndyingLoyalty.
* PluckyComicRelief: Especially after he TookALevelInKindness (in season 1, he has his moments, but his "craziness" is mostly about him being a violent jerk and a MoodSwinger). In season 3 and 4, he's the goofiest character on the show, and especially in the latter he's firmly a NiceGuy.
* PoliticallyIncorrectHero: Zig-zagged. He's madly in love with Kubra, a black girl. But in season 3, when a black guy also becomes attracted to Kubra, Pino gets so crazily jealous that he calls him the N-word, leaving Kubra disappointed. Pino is a mentally unstable LowerClassLout, so he just used the most offensive insult he could come up with, mainly because of jealousy. He gets much better in S4, though.
* TookALevelInKindness: Very much so. Starts off as a violent and unstable bully who doesn't get along with anyone, and becomes a nice, caring, loyal and goofy good guy in S4.

[[folder: Gianni "Cardiotrap" Russo]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mfgia.jpg]]
->'''Played by:''' Domenico Cuomo

An aspiring singer. He's in prison for robbery, but he's a friendly, decent and morally good guy who doesn't want to harm others.
----
* BewareTheNiceOnes:
** Gianni is one of the nicest guys in the series, but you don't want to piss him off. He also has no problem getting into a fight with Fabio, a much older and bigger guy than him who's also very violent. [[spoiler: He also accidentally pushes Fabio off the balcony while defending himself]].
** He is also really furious to learn that Giulia stole his song after hearing the song on the radio.
* BirdsOfAFeather: With Gemma. Both are insecure {{Broken Bird}}s who have to deal with a violently abusive person in their life. They have a relationship.
* BreakTheCutie: He's already broken at the start of the series because of his DarkAndTroubledPast, but at least tries to be positive in prison thanks to his friendliness and love for music. [[spoiler: But after his AccidentalMurder of Fabio at the end of season 2, he becomes nervous, angry, and frustrated.]]
* ExcellentJudgeOfCharacter: In season 4, Alina is seen by everyone as a psychopath, with some characters even saying she's worse than Giulia or even ''Viola''. Gianni is the only one who immediately understands that she's just scared and lonely.
* FourTemperamentEnsemble: The Sanguine of the main male friends quartet. He's kind, friendly, cheerful, creative and optimistic, spreading positivity around despite everything that happened to him. He temporarily becomes somewhat bitter, sadly, but he gets better again.
* HasAType: He has a soft spot for girls who are quiet and troubled {{Broken Bird}}s who are too scared to express their feelings, like Gemma and Alina.
* HiddenHeartOfGold: In S3, he bluntly rejects Gemma and acts far more aloof and bitter than his usual friendly self. He actually means well and wants the girl to be free.
* InsecureLoveInterest: To Gemma. He thinks she deserves better than him and [[spoiler: it's also one of the reasons for their break-up.]]
* InSeriesNickname: He's often referred to as "Cardiotrap", his StageName.
* ItsAllMyFault: He felt horrible about killing Fabio.
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: In season 3, [[spoiler: he breaks up with Gemma after she's released from prison, so she can have happy life without him.]]
* JerkassBall: Justified. He's more bitter and angry in season 3, [[spoiler: because he feels guilty for his AccidentalMurder of Fabio, even though it was self-defense, and Fabio was a horrible man.]] He gets better again in season 4.
* JustifiedCriminal: Not even a criminal, but a NiceGuy who committed one crime. He comes from a poor family and his father beats his mother, but he's the only one who works in the house. Seeing how his mother is suffering, Gianni tries to keep her away from his father, by bringing money quickly by himself without his father's help. That's why he reluctantly gets involved in a robbery.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone:
** His backstory. After being involved in a robbery and seeing an old woman having a heart attack, he comes back to her house to help her. That's how he gets caught by the police.
** [[spoiler: His AccidentalMurder of Fabio at the end of season 2. While Fabio deserved to die, Gianni feels awful for a long time.]]
* NiceGuy: One of the most well-meaning and morally correct characters, who wants to help others. Especially evident after becoming friends with Filippo and Carmine, and becoming interested in Gemma.
* TokenGoodTeammate: In the first few episodes, he's seen casually hanging out with Ciro's gang, but he never joins in their violence and never laughs at Filippo's humiliations along with them. He's actually one of the few people who are genuinely friendly to Filippo since the beginning. When we learn more about him and he becomes friends with Filippo, Carmine and Pino, it becomes clear that he has nothing to do with Ciro and his friends.
* WouldHitAGirl:
** Justified. He was (understandably) about to hit Giulia after she stole his song and acted smug about it.
** He slaps Gemma once, but just to show her how bad and toxic her relationships with Fabio is. Just like Gianni's mother, Gemma has always been in a violent, abusive and toxic relationship.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Ciro Ricci]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mfcir4.png]]
->'''Played by:''' Giacomo Giorgio

The son of Camorra boss Salvatore Ricci, trained to follow in his footsteps since he was very young. He's in prison for killing his friend Francesco, under the orders of his father.
----
* AlasPoorVillain: [[spoiler: In the season 1 finale, after Filippo stabs him to save Carmine, the mortally wounded Ciro tells Massimo "Tell my father I wasn't scared" before breaking down crying "I don't want to die", and then he dies in Massimo's arms.]]
* BigBad: The main villain in season 1, and the main threat to both Carmine and Filippo. [[spoiler: He actively tried to kill them in the season 1 finale, but gets killed by Filippo who's saving Carmine from him.]]
* TheBully: To Filippo, although more in a FauxAffablyEvil way. He pretends to be "nice" to Filippo, but he's just trying to manipulate him into doing some dirty work for him. Filippo is terrified of him.
* CoolBigBro: His younger sister Rosa adores him [[spoiler: and later tries to avenge his death.]]
* TheCorrupter:
** In Gaetano's backstory, we learn that Gaetano has become a cruel delinquent under the ToxicFriendInfluence of Ciro.
** In season 1, he tries to corrupt and manipulate Filippo into becoming another one of his minions. He fails.
* TheDreaded: According to Carmine, the only reason why Ciro is respected in prison is because of fear. The only people who don't fear him are Pino and Viola.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: He clearly didn't want to kill his friend Francesco, and felt horrible for it. He only did it beacuse his father wanted to. He's also very close to his family and gang friends.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Ciro is easily the most cruel among the guys and yet he has his own noble side. He isn't as ruthless as his father and wonders how he could never shed a tear since his mother died. [[spoiler:Until it's revealed she's alive and Salvatore forced her into a psychiatric hospital]]. And, unlike complete {{sociopath}} Viola, at least he ''does'' have genuine feelings for someone.
* EvilCounterpart: To Carmine. While both were born into powerful Camorra families, Carmine is against the criminal "family business", while Ciro is all for it.
* FauxAffablyEvil: His "friendliness" to Filippo and his willingness to let him join his gang. He only wants to manipulate him and involve him in his shady business, even forcing him to do the dirty work.
* HasAType: A season 3 flashback reveals that he has a thing for redheads. This explains his crush on the horrible Viola in the first season.
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter:
** He tries to turn Filippo into another member of his gang, thinking that this would have helped him to defeat Carmine. This was Ciro's downfall, as Filippo was too good-natured and close to Carmine to do that.
** He's genuinely attracted to ''Viola'', and thinks it can be mutual. While they have a lot in common, especially their ruthless and sadistic traits, Viola is a sociopath who has no feelings for anyone and only wants to manipulate Ciro, while at least Ciro ''did'' have feelings for her.
* {{Jerkass}}: Clearly an unpleasant, manipulative and power hungry jerk, on top of being a ruthless criminal of course.
* KarmicDeath: [[spoiler: At the end of season 1, Filippo kills him to save Carmine. Since Ciro was actually trying to kill Carmine, the death is karmic. Not to mention that, even before that, Ciro was a ruthless thug who was terrorizing everyone in the prison.]]
* TheLeader: He has a good numbers of henchmen in prison who see him as their boss.
* NobleDemon: Ciro is easily the most cruel, ruthless and sadistic one among the villainous boys, is ''very'' capable of being murderous and, again, he's a feared delinquent. With that being said, he really ''does'' have a noble side, shown towards the people he cares for, and he's especially loyal to his family. [[spoiler:He's also the one who discovers that his mother is alive and he frees her - with a new identity - from the psychiatric hospital his father Salvatore forced her into, making his children believe she was dead.]]
* ObliviouslyEvil: He wouldn't have been a bad person at all if it wasn't for being the son of the main of TheDon in the series and wasn't so blindly loyal to him.
* PosthumousCharacter: [[spoiler: He dies at the end of season 1. After his death, the other characters keep mentioning him all the time in season 2 and 3, and he also appears in some flashbacks.]]
* ToxicFriendInfluence: To Edoardo, Gaetano, Totò and all his friends. Much of their cruelty is just them trying to impress Ciro or get his respect, or just following his lead. [[spoiler: Gaetano has a HeelFaceTurn not much time after Ciro's death.]]
* UniversallyBelovedLeader: A villainous example. His henchmen seem to be completely and utterly devoted to him, [[spoiler: even after his death.]]
* UsedToBeASweetKid: Flashbacks in season 4 show that he was an innocent kid, before he starts to embrace the criminal life of his father.
* VillainousFriendship: With Edoardo. They are close friends who are slowly planning to take over Naples when they will be older and out of prison.

A street thug who is Ciro's longtime friend and a notable henchman of the Ricci family. Unlike the other inmates, we never learn the specific reason why he ended up in prison.
----
* AnimalMotifs: Tigers, due to their ferociousness. He has a big tiger tattoo on the chest, he goes to pet a tiger at the zoo in a season 1 episode (and the tiger accepts it), he possibly owns a tiger poster, and the first thing he say to his newborn baby was "You're like me, a tiger".
* AntiVillain: He's on Ciro's side, which makes him villainous, and can be cruel. But he's not completely terrible and he has his PetTheDog moments.
* AssholeVictim: At the end of season 4, someone hits him on the head with a shovel and leaves him semi-conscious in a graveyard. We don't know who did that, but several characters have reasons to dislike him or hurt him.
* BreakoutCharacter: Due to his huge popularity with viewers. He's only a background character in the first half of season 1, but starts to get his own subplots in the second half. In season 2, he gets even more focus, replacing Ciro as the leader of the antagonists. Starting in season 3, he has a more prominent role than everyone else, along with Carmine and Rosa.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: Despite being a HotBlooded thug who lacks proper education, he's shown to be intelligent, creative and good at poetry.
* ByronicHero: A troubled, physically attractive, intelligent, talented and rebellious individual. And he's an AntiVillain example.
* CardCarryingVillain: In one season 3 episode, he yells in front of everyone that he's not like [[TheHero Carmine]] or like [[TheAtoner Gaetano]] and that he has no problem killing anyone he wants. He mainly fears that the others don't take him seriously like they previously did with [[TheDreaded Ciro]] and tries hard to keep his "bad guy" status [[spoiler: until he gets shot.]]
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Shown to be a guy with very quirky ideas, such as going to pet a tiger at the zoo at night. His thinking outside the box, compared to the other criminals, also makes him creative, needless to say - among the gang mates, he's indeed the only one interested in artistic topics.
* ConsummateLiar: He lies to ''everyone'', even the ones who are close to him. Just a minor example from season 1: he gives Teresa a necklace and tells her that it's a special gift from his mother that he had since he was a child... in reality, Edoardo stole that necklace from a cellmate just the day before.
* CrazyJealousGuy: He beats a guy to a bloody pulp just because he was hanging out with Teresa. Oh, and also because [[DisproportionateRetribution the guy had red hair]], just like a redheaded kid who mistreated Edoardo in his childhood, with no evidence at all that he was the same person.
* DeadGuyJunior: He named his baby son Ciro.
* EvenBadMenLoveTheirMamas: He's not a good person most of the time, but he has a positive relationship with his mom, who is very supportive of him.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: While not outright ''evil'', he's an AntiVillain who has a VillainousFriendship with Ciro and Totò. He also has a close bond with the Ricci family [[spoiler: and he is deeply hurt when Salvatore Ricci betrayed him]]. Also, his love for Teresa was genuine, despite lying to her and never telling her he already has a wife and a baby.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: ''Evil'' may be a stretch, again, but has no problem with torture, extreme violence, and even murder if he feels it's necessary (such as [[spoiler:in the case of Don Salvatore]]), and yet he would never ''physically'' hurt women (though his actions are often emotionally hurtful to women) or children.
** He's particularly disgusted by rapists indeed - which leads him to beat up [[spoiler:Sasà]] as the truth about him is revealed. And, when he discovers Carmela's father attempted to abuse her
* EvilCounterpart: As an AntiVillain example, he can be seen as this to Carmine. Both are young guys who had children early, handsome, intelligent and TroubledButCute (albeit for different reasons). But, while Carmine is a kind, loyal NiceGuy who comes from a criminal family yet wants to live an honest and peaceful life, and has a troubled relationship with his mother, Edoardo is quite the arrogant {{jerkass}} who's unfaithful to his girlfriend, has a good relationship with his mother despite being a delinquent, and frequently gets into trouble.
* FreudianExcuse: He comes from a poor family. When he was a kid, a rich little boy framed him for theft, causing Edoardo's mother to be fired. He also mentions that he was frequently beaten up as a child, though it's not clear if he was a BullyMagnet or simply got into many fights with children.
* TheGadfly: He's very mischievous and loves to provoke others.
* HiddenDepths: Despite his "bad boy" LowerClassLout characterization, he's shown to be creative and surprisingly good at poetry in season 1. The adults also consider him very smart, despite his lack of proper education.
* {{Hypocrite}}:
** For a guy who claims that "women should always be treated like queens", he still thinks there's nothing wrong with lying and cheating on two women at the same time, even if one of these women is your pregnant wife.
** He takes family values seriously. Except when he's too busy sleeping with Teresa, while knowing that his wife Carmela is giving birth to their baby in the hospital. He also got a permission to leave the prison to attend the baptism of his child... but he didn't go because he wanted to see Teresa instead.
* InformedAttribute: He's stated many times to be a ChickMagnet and TheCasanova who is obsessed with women, and he also seems quite proud of it. But throughout the series, he has never shown attraction to other girls (not even in the flashbacks) other than [[FirstLove Carmela]] and [[SecondLove Teresa]], and he has genuinely loved both of them at different times. So, he's not exactly the womanizer he's supposed to be, but just a two-timing jerk who keeps lying to the same two women.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Edoardo is a {{jerk}}ish, brash, insensitive, cocky, self-absobed and violent thug who repeatedly cheats on his wife Carmela with Teresa, and he's quite neglectful to his baby son too. Though, he does have several redeeming qualities, and has a caring and noble side. He also has friends he cares for and is especially close with Totò.
* TheLeader: Replaces Ciro as the leader of the prison gang after Ciro's death.
* NoSympathy: Towards Sasà, given that [[spoiler:he raped his girlfriend. He also draws a penis on Sasà's back with his knife]].
* PoliticallyIncorrectVillain: He makes some homophobic remarks about Luigi in season 4. Ironically, he makes them when talking with Milos, unaware of the fact that Milos is gay too. He also seems to be a little racist, it's given by the fact that he said the n word and making rude gestures at Kubra (a black girl) when she arrived in prison.
* SmugSmiler: He often has a smug grin on his face - even in the last scene of season 4 - which reflects his cocky and mischievous nature.
* TookALevelInJerkass: He was hardly nice in season 1. But in season 2, he gets more focus and there are more scenes that show him to be an amoral {{Jerkass}}, even to his own family. Less so in season 3: he starts off as an antagonist in the first half, but in the second half, he becomes a TragicVillain who is portrayed in a more sympathetic light. He's still a smug jerkass in season 4, as he keeps doing bad things and has no CharacterDevelopment, even after his traumatic experience of the previous season.
* TragicVillain: His troubled past and traumatic experiences portray him in a sympathetic light.
* TroubledButCute: He's a cheeky and rebellious delinquent, but has a HiddenHeartOfGold and sympathetic moments, is good-looking and charming enough to attract girls, and later episodes put increasingly more focus on his troubled life.
* UsedToBeASweetKid: While he was a little rough, he was a fairly good-natured kid who genuinely tried to befriend a kid in a childhood flashback - sadly, the latter turned out to be an arrogant jerk and framed him.
* VillainProtagonist: He's the most important male character along with Carmine of the series as a whole, especially starting in season 3. He gets many of the most important storylines and SympatheticPOV, but mostly he's still an amoral criminal who cheats on his wife.
* WouldntHitAGirl: He's against raping, beating, or killing women. [[spoiler: He punished Sasà when he found out that he raped his girlfriend, in a PayEvilIntoEvil way. He also criticized one of his henchmen when he believed he killed Nina, because "you should never touch a woman".]]
* WouldntHurtAChild: He's shocked and angry when Viola [[spoiler: threatens to throw a baby off the roof.]]

An obnoxiously loudmouthed boy and the PluckyComicRelief of Ciro's gang. He's in prison for trying to blow up his house after a massive fight with his family.
----
* AntiVillain: He reveals that he never wanted to be evil. He sure did bad deeds in name of his VillainousFriendship with his boss Ciro.
* AscendedExtra: Is a SatelliteCharacter in season 1, but has his own story arc in season 2 where we also learn about his backstory.
* BewareTheSillyOnes: Despite being a goofy jokester, he's just as aggressive and mean as the rest of Ciro's gang. [[spoiler: And he's capable of murder to avenge his boss.]]
* BlackSheep: A screwed-up troublemaker adopted by a family of respectable people.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: He takes his VillainousFriendship with Ciro and Edoardo very seriously.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: The foolish troublemaker to his adopted brother Mario, a TeenGenius.
* FreudianExcuse: We see it in a flashback. While his adoptive parents are nice, his adopted brother Mario hates him, belittles him, and tells him that he's just a criminal who doesn't belong to the family.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He's often obnoxious and violent, but he does have redeeming qualities and friends he cares for. He's particularly close with Edoardo.
* LaughablyEvil: He's one of the goofiest villainous characters in the series.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: [[spoiler: He deeply regrets killing Nina, though he actually wanted to kill Carmine, not her. At the end of season 2, he has an emotional breakdown and HeelRealization.]]
* PluckyComicRelief: With his weird jokes and loudmouthed personality, he's the only member of Ciro's gang whose behavior is often PlayedForLaughs. Until the the last few episodes of season 2, [[spoiler: when his character becomes DarkerAndEdgier, before being PutOnABus.]]
* MustMakeAmends: At the end of season 2, [[spoiler: he's willing to confess to Nina's murder after a HeelRealization.]]
* PutOnABus: After season 2. [[spoiler: He's transferred to another prison after confessing to Nina's murder.]]
* StepfordSmiler: Behind his loudmouthed jokester demeanor, he has a DarkAndTroubledPast and feels guilty for his horrible actions.
* WouldntHitAGirl: [[spoiler: He never wanted to kill Nina. She just got in the way when he was trying to kill Carmine to avenge Ciro's death.]]

Ciro's (formerly) cruel YesMan who worships Ciro because he's a feared criminal, and hates his nice parents for being "weak". He's in prison after kneecapping a man with a gun, following the suggestion of Ciro.
----
* AbusiveOffspring: He loathes his parents for being too weak and soft. This all changes when he became very humble to them, [[spoiler:but it doesn't really last long when he died]].
* AntiVillain: Ultimately revealed to do bad deeds only to impress Ciro. He has always been his clingy YesMan, after all. And he [[spoiler: firmly becomes a good guy in the end, which lasts until his HeroicSacrifice]].
* AscendedExtra: Like Totò, he's only a SatelliteCharacter in season 1, but has his own story arc in season 2 where we also learn about his backstory.
* TheAtoner: [[spoiler:In the season 2 finale, he has a HeelRealization, realizes that the criminal life is not for him, makes peace with his parents, and decides to stay away from Edoardo's gang.]]
* BadPeopleAbuseAnimals: [[spoiler:In season 1, he kills Pino's dog Tyson when he gets a permission to leave the prison, as revenge for Pino supposedly betraying Ciro.]]
* BullyTurnedBuddy: [[spoiler:He's a bully in the first two seasons. He becomes Carmine's friend in season 3, even if they used to hate each other.]]
* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: In the first two seasons, he has longish hair, usually tied up in a low ponytail. [[spoiler:After his HeelFaceTurn, his hair is shorter in season 3.]]
* EvilerThanThou:
** He appears to be even more ruthless and cruel than Edoardo. In season 2, Gaetano is ready to kill Filippo to [[spoiler: avenge Ciro's death]] while Edoardo doesn't want to, although mostly for PragmaticVillainy reasons.
** [[spoiler: Inverted in season 3. Gateano wants to give up his criminal life, while Edoardo still wants to use him to kill another person. When Gaetano refuses, Edoardo mocks him for being TheAtoner.]]
* FatBastard: An overweight guy who's incredibly cruel at first. [[spoiler: He becomes a GentleGiant in season 3.]]
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: While he hangs out with Ciro's gang, even the other gang members don't really care for him, and he knows it. He and Edoardo particularly dislike each other. Later on, things change as he becomes friends with Carmine and gets along with the other good characters.
* HeelFaceTurn: In the first two seasons, he's a horrible person, and cruel enough to be one of the most prominent HateSink. [[spoiler: After his HeelRealization, he turns into a much nicer character in season 3.]]
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler: He lets himself be killed by Mimmo in the middle of season 3, as a self-sacrifice to save Mimmo's life and his parents's life.]]
* HiddenDepths: He's a really good cook and likes making pizza.
* InSeriesNickname: Usually called "Pirucchio", meaning "louse" in Neapolitan. Nickname given to him by Ciro, because Gaetano is too clingy.
* NiceGuy: After his HeelFaceTurn, [[spoiler: he becomes a genuinely nice and affable guy who's on friendly terms with Carmine and the other heroic characters. He's also selfless and sacrifices himself to save his parents and Mimmo]].
* SupremeChef: [[spoiler: After his HeelFaceTurn, he decides to use his talent for cooking to become a pizza maker. It doesn't last long, because of his death.]]
* ThatManIsDead: In the first two seasons, he's OnlyKnownByHisNickname "Pirucchio". [[spoiler: After his HeelFaceTurn, he prefers to go by his real name Gaetano because, in his own words, "Pirucchio is dead".]]
* TookALevelInKindness: Starting in season three, he changed his ways and became a good person, sadly it didn't last long when he died.
* UndyingLoyalty: The reason for his villainy is his loyalty to Ciro to the point of being his YesMan.
* YesMan: He would do anything for his boss Ciro. [[spoiler: After Ciro dies, and Edoardo becomes the new leader, it becomes a problem, as Gaetano doesn't really respect Edoardo and even tells him that he's nothing compared to Ciro.]]

Another member of Ciro's gang. He's in prison for willingly taking the blame for a murder committed by a person he loved.
----
* AntiVillain: He's pretty much portrayed as a villain in name only: the reason for his antagonistic role is his friendship with Ciro and his gang. Otherwise, he's a fairly mellow guy and isn't a bad person, just going along with what his friends are doing.
* AscendedExtra: He barely has any lines in the first two seasons. He's still a minor character in season 3 and 4, but we learn more about his backstory and love life.
* {{Gayngst}}: A closet gay who, unlike Luigi, never comes out, likely because he fears he'll lose his friends, especially Edoardo.
* TheGenericGuy: It's hard to find an adjective to describe his personality, because he doesn't have many lines.
* HeroicSacrifice: Non-lethal example. He assumes the responsibility of the murder when Luna, a trans girl he loved, killed an ex who became her stalker, letting himself get arrested.
* OnlyFriend: By season 4, he's this to Edoardo. After Luigi turns against Edoardo, Raffaele and Diego eventually decide to stay on Luigi's side, while only Milos remains on Edoardo's side. It's also unlikely that Rosa will remain Edoardo's friend after the revelation.
* OnlySaneMan: In Ciro's gang, he's the most calm, and the least likely to get in trouble, mainly following the others.
* TheQuietOne: He doesn't talk much. In the first two seasons, he's usually seen hanging out with his friends without doing or saying anything.
* SatelliteCharacter: He's the least developed of Ciro's gang by a large margin. In season 2, he's supposed to be one of Ciro's closest friends along with Edoardo, Totò, and Gaetano, but he's just there. Even after the introduction of new characters in the gang, he's still the most OutOfFocus in the group.
* StraightGay: [[spoiler: He's later revealed to be gay, but he doesn't have any stereotypical mannerisms.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Salvatore "Sasà" Baldi]]

->'''Played by:''' Filippo Soave

A rich young boy who is accused of rape by his ex-girlfriend, but he denies it.
----
* AbusiveParents: While not ''evil'', his mother is definitely a classist, very overwhelming, overprotective and really doesn't let Sasà have his own personal space. And she doesn't want him to confess his crime, either. She's very much the wealthy, arrogant and manipulative type of woman who [[ScrewTheRulesIHaveMoney genuinely believes she can do anything with money]].
* ButtMonkey: Very much so. He's cruelly bullied by Edoardo and his gang since the beginning. This only gets worse when they find out that he's accused of rape.
* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: The season 2 finale has him [[spoiler: admitting guilt in court for raping a girl, after denying it for many episodes.]] And then in season 3... he disappears without explanation, and we never find out what happens to him.
* ExtremeDoormat: He's constantly bullied but he can't stand up for himself, and Lino intervenes to defend him quite a few times.
* FakeGuestStar: In season 2, his actor's name is only listed among the guest stars in the closing credits, despite being a major character in the entire season (although his face is seen in the opening along with the other protagonists).
* FreudianExcuse: His mother is controlling, snobby, and a very bad influence on her son, forcing him to follow her questionable orders to save her family's reputation.
* GadgeteerGenius: Very skilled with technology and informatics.
* JerkassRealization: [[spoiler: By the end of the season, thanks to Lino's advice, Sasà realizes how horrible he has been, by forcing himself on his girlfriend Erika. He ends up confessing his crime.]]
* MoralityPet: Lino, the most cynical and corrupt of the guards, has a soft spot for him. Actually, both are this to each other: Lino convinces Sasà to do the right thing, while Sasà is the only inmate Lino is genuinely nice to. It helps that they have a few things in common.
* NiceGuy: He likely never really wanted to do the crime he did as he was blatantly influenced by his friends about [[spoiler:having to sink the pink with Erika]] and really is a kind, shy guy who's happy to help Filippo and Gianni with his technology skills.
* TroubledAbuser: [[spoiler: He really raped Erika.]] But his arrogant and manipulative mother, as well as his school friends, are quite toxic, and after going to prison, he gets bullied and humiliated regularly.
* YouRemindMeOfX: When he arrives, due to being a well-off and naive boy, the delinquents suddenly compare him to Filippo.

A guy from a very poor family. He's involved with the Camorra business by his own choice, to improve his quality of life.
----
* AntiVillain: He's antagonistic towards [[spoiler: Edoardo, Gaetano, and Rosa]] only because he works for [[spoiler: Wanda Di Salvo]]. But he's not portrayed as a bad person, just as an unhappy guy who makes bad choices.
* AscendedExtra: Like Rosa, he's introduced near the end of season 2. He's a major character in season 3.
* ButtMonkey: In season 3 and especially season 4, he may be the most unlucky and mistreated character in the series. Even after his HeelFaceTurn, he seems to have the world against him.
* CapturedOnPurpose: In season 2, he is purposely imprisoned to help Edoardo escape. [[spoiler: Only that it's revealed to be a scam to actually ''kill'' him.]]
* ChronicBackstabbingDisorder: He abandoned his own family to work for the Camorra. [[spoiler: He's introduced as a henchman of the Ricci family, but later we found out that he was actually working against them, following the orders of Wanda Di Salvo. And the Di Salvo family is the main opponent of the Ricci family.]]
* FreudianExcuseIsNoExcuse: Mimmo's decision to work for the Camorra is due to his hard life, since he grew up in an extremely poor family. [[spoiler: But when he tries to make peace with his mother, she didn't forgive him. His parents were poor but honest people, and he had no right to abandon them.]]
* HeelFaceTurn: He is involved with the Camorra to have a better life, initially following the orders of [[spoiler: Wanda Di Salvo. After killing Gaetano in self defense, Mimmo feels extremely guilty, starting his gradual HeelRealization, and he ends up confessing the truth to Gaetano's parents. He also tries to make peace with his own family, although his mother never forgave him for abandoning her.]]
* IHaveNoSon: He tries to make peace with his mother but she kicks him out, because her own husband killed himself after being abandoned by Mimmo in the past.
* IJustWantToBeLoved: He had a bad childhood because his parents were too poor and unintentionally neglectful. He starts to work for [[spoiler: Wanda Di Salvo, because he genuinely sees her as a good mother figure.]]
* KillingInSelfDefense: [[spoiler: Mimmo kills Gaetano, because he thought the latter was about to shoot him.]]
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: [[spoiler: He still feels extremely guilty for killing Gaetano, especially when he learns that Gaetano never wanted to kill him for real, and his gun was unloaded.]]
* PromotionToOpeningTitles: He starts appearing in season 2, and his actor's name is added to the opening credits in season 3.
* WouldHitAGirl: [[spoiler: He tries to kill Rosa, under the orders of Wanda Di Salvo. Carmine saves Rosa in time.]]

One of the three newcomers in seasons 3, CapturedOnPurpose to help Edoardo.
----
* AffablyEvil: Not really ''evil'', but despite being a delinquent who works for the Camorra, he's mostly a meek MellowFellow who doesn't want his little brother to get in trouble. He even apologizes when his brother acts like a brat.
* AntiVillain: Luigi is tecnhically a delinquent but he isn't a bad person, just a poor, unhappy guy who makes wrong choices for survival, similar to Mimmo. By nature he is also rather meek and quiet, and very caring towards his brother and his friend Diego.
* CoolBigBro: His little brother Raffaele looks up to him [[spoiler: until he finds out about Luigi's homosexuality at the end of season 3. They make peace in the second half of season 4.]]
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Again, not "evil" but despite being a young delinquent, at least, he has a much greater sense of loyalty than Edoardo. He may be a criminal who wants to take over Edoardo's position (because he knows that Edoardo is not reliable), but at first he was willing to give his loyalty to Rosa. Only after Rosa tells him that she's no longer interested in her father's "family business" and dirty money, he starts to make a plan to take the money by himself and become the new leader. By contrast, [[ChronicBackstabbingDisorder Edoardo]] was willing to screw over Rosa and just keep lying to her.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: He's the mature older sibling, while his little brother Raffaele is a complete brat.
* {{Gayngst}}: He's in the closet at first, and unhappy because his secret boyfriend was killed by his homophobic father. Luigi himself has a homophobic brother, and is too scared to come out. {{Subverted}} in S4 as he admits to all the other inmates he's gay, and genuinely thinks there's nothing wrong with it.
* IronicNickname: He's nicknamed "Cucciolo" (meaning "Puppy"). He's actually a big and tall guy.
* LongHairedPrettyBoy: A good-looking long-haired boy who could easily attract the young ladies. He's gay, though.
* MellowFellow: A rather quiet and affable guy with a generally peaceful demeanor despite being a delinquent.
* StraightGay: Nobody suspects that he's gay. He definitely doesn't have the mannerisms and his little brother has even made a joke about Luigi potentially being a "ladies man".
* TookALevelInJerkass: He's more arrogant and ambitious in season 4, where he even wants to steal Edoardo's position. He has his reasons though.

Luigi's little brother, and one of the three newcomers in seasons 3, CapturedOnPurpose to help Edoardo.
----
* AccidentalMurder: In S4, he accidentally kills attorney Alfredo and feels terrible about it.
* AnnoyingYoungerSibling: He acts like a hyperactive brat and constantly irritates his older brother Luigi. They are still close though, [[spoiler: until the end of season 3 where Raffaele checks Luigi is gay, but then after the issue is solved, they become very close again despite everything.]]
* AntiVillain: He's a bratty jerk, and like his brother he's a delinquent, but not really a bad person - instead they come from a very poor background and make bad choices to live a better life.
* BigBrotherWorship: Despite their fights in season 4, he still loves his older brother Luigi.
* BrokenPedestal: Raffaele has always looked up to his brother Luigi, but when he sees Luigi kissing Milos, he turns against him. He gets better at the end of season 4.
* CharacterDevelopment: Over the course of season 4, he gets over his homophobia and accepts his gay brother.
* EveryoneHasStandards:
** He may be homophobic, but not racist. We see in a flashback that he accepted token black guy Diego as his friend immediately. He also stops being homophobic at the end of season 4, after realizing that he can't hate his brother, no matter his sexual orientation.
** He's part of a criminal gang, but when he accidentally kills Alfredo, [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone he feels terrible]].
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: He's immature and annoying, while his older brother Luigi is more calm and serious.
* FreudianExcuse: Both he and his brother come from a very poor DysfunctionalFamily. It's not hard to see why they are delinquents.
* HotBlooded: He's a loud and ''very'' temperamental young boy, who near constantly acts on impulse.
* InSeriesNickname: He's also known as "Micciarella" due to his temperamental nature.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He has an incredible temper, is rude, obnoxious, cocky, unpleasant and constantly causes mischief and provokes other people, but he ''does'' have redeeming qualities and genuinely cares for his friends. He's also egalitarian and stops being homophobic.
* {{Keet}}: The kid is unstoppable, it's pretty hard to calm him down.
* LaughablyEvil: While he's overly mischievous and unpleasant instead of ''evil'', due to his age, nobody takes him seriously, despite his troublemaking behavior and (former) homophobia.
* OnlyFriend: The only one who's genuinely fond of Crazy J and has a genuinely friendly relationship with her.
* PoliticallyIncorrectVillain: A younger examples than most, but he's introduced as a rather negative character and extremely homophobic. {{Subverted}} later on, thankfully.
* TookALevelInKindness: Despite still being an antagonist, in the second half of season 4 he's no longer homophobic and he has his PetTheDog moments with Giulia.

[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/marfd.jpg]]
->'''Played by:''' Salahudin Tijani Imrana

A Nigerian immigrant and a friend of the Di Meo brothers. He's one of the three newcomers in seasons 3, CapturedOnPurpose to help Edoardo.
----
* AntiVillain: Even more of a VillainInNameOnly than Milos. Diego is a good-natured guy who becomes a delinquent due to his friendship with the Di Meo brothers, the ones who saved the poor guy from pretty much being a slave.
* DarkIsNotEvil: He's a black guy with a much darker skin than kubra, and has a somewhat somber appearance, but he's not a bad person by any means.
* FreudianExcuse: He's an immigrant, all his family members are dead, and suffered some racism in the past. Probably because of his DarkAndTroubledPast, he starts to get involved in the illegal trade.
* HiddenDepths: He's a very good portraitist, and was able to make a nice portrait of Kubra.
* InSeriesNickname: He's also known as "Dobermann".
* JerkassToOne: While he's generally a pretty mellow and affable guy, he's more jerkish to Pino, provoking him given that they are in love with the same girl. However, they are on friendly terms by the end of the series.
* NiceGuy: Despite being a member of a delinquent group, he's a pretty friendly, affable and nice person, and a loyal friend as well. Sadly, when the members of the gang he belongs to behave badly, he engages in bad activities.
* SmarterThanYouLook: He's not as smart as Kubra, and has little to no education due to his upbringing. But with help of Kubra, he eventually gets his middle school diploma in prison.
* TokenMinority: The only African of the guys, and one of the two notable African inmates along with Kubra.
* TokenMinorityCouple: Downplayed. He gets some ShipTease with the other token black girl Kubra, and he's clearly attracted to her, much to Pino's jealousy. While Kubra thinks Diego is nice and starts bonding with him, she's already in a relationship with Pino.

->'''Played by:''' Valentina Romani

A Romani girl who is CapturedOnPurpose to escape her parents who want to force her into an ArrangedMarriage.
----
* AntiHero: ZigZagged. In her early incarnation, she's a little rude, cynical, has been in prison several times, has the nerve to be angry at Filippo after ''she'' stole his watch and his wallet (while pretending to be friendly), mocks him about it in front of everyone, uses a homophobic slur against Pino, and often lashes out at Filippo when he's just trying to help her. However, she has a good heart deep down and loves her friends. JerkWithAHeartOfGold is the best way to describe her... Though, she becomes kinder later on, but then, sadly, she abandons Filippo in season 3 after getting angry with him another time, instead of trying to communicate with him.
* AwesomenessByAnalysis: She's very intuitive and perceptive, and can play the piano just using her intuition and perfect pitch. And from the first time she meets [[HateSink Viola]], she hates her from the start, and is right about it.
* BelligerentSexualTension: With Filippo in most of season 1. They don't like each other at first, and Naditza is a {{Tsundere}}. They get together in the season 1 finale.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: She's a good-hearted person and generally friendly and pleasant, but she has an attitude and especially when facing Viola's cruelty she understandably becomes violent and angry towards her. She's also often rude and angry to her LoveInterest Filippo (even unfairly and disproportionately) in all three seasons.
* BullyHunter: She tries to protect weak-willed girls like Serena and Gemma from Viola's cruelty. Key word: try.
* ByronicHeroine: Portrayed in an overall positive light, and not self-destructive as many examples, but as cheerful as she may seem, she definitely has several traits - intelligent, talented, attractive, passionate, rebellious and a hard life due to her horrible family.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: She's rather perky and eccentric, and very much a lateral thinker. This is not a negative trait since she's very creative, innovative and very much able to solve problems by thinking outside the box, despite being a bit of a loon.
* DatingWhatDaddyHates: Her father doesn't approve of her relationship with Filippo, because he wants her to get married to another guy.
* DeadpanSnarker: She's easily the most sarcastic character in the series and has a mischievous sense of humor.
* DefrostingIceQueen: She goes from disliking Filippo to falling in love with him.
* ExcellentJudgeOfCharacter: Suddenly guesses right about Viola being ''very'' evil.
* FieryRedhead: She's a redhead and quite HotBlooded.
* {{Foil}}: Pretty much represents everything that Viola is ''not''. Naditza is a HotBlooded FieryRedhead and yet a LoonWithAHeartOfGold and a friendly, pleasant, lovable NiceGirl with a strong sense of honor, selflessness and does what's right. Meanwhile, Viola is an AxCrazy, calculative, cold-hearted, unemotional {{sociopath}} and {{sadist}}, and on top of that she's also incredibly petty and a FauxAffablyEvil {{jerkass}}.
* FreudianExcuse: While she has an attitude, it's understandable considering that her father is a {{Jerkass}} who wants to decide everything for her (even selling her to an older man) and has probably forced her to steal since she was a child.
* TheGadfly: She has a rather mischievous attitude and likes to tease others, though she's very well-meaning and has a kind heart.
* GenkiGirl: A wild, cheerful, friendly and energetic girl, despite everything that happens to her.
* GoodIsNotNice: {{Downplayed}} - at first she has an attitude and is harsh at times, but she's a good person at heart who cares about her friends in prison. She TookALevelInKindness though, and deep down she's a very friendly and kind girl if you look beyond her troubles.
* HatesTheirParent: Naditza hates her parents, especially her father, because they want to force her to marry an older guy even though Naditza is not interested.
* HiddenDepths: Her incredible piano skills, something she has in common with Filippo.
* HotGypsyWoman: A very pretty Romani girl who attracts Filippo, and there is also another man who wants to marry her.
* InsecureLoveInterest: She belongs to a horrible family and is aware of the bad reputation of the Romani culture, so she feels unworthy of Filippo's love.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: She is a thief (initially), and has a rebellious and short-tempered personality. But she also has a good heart, as seen in her genuine friendships with the girls in prison. Later she's mostly a NiceGirl, though.
* LoonWithAHeartOfGold: She's not the most normal person around and is quite perky and eccentric. There's no doubt that she has a kind heart and is a good friend, though.
* MasculineGirlFeminineBoy: PlayedWith; she is a tough and troubled girl, while Filippo is an endearing, good-natured guy... However, she's not exactly a tomboy and Filippo is not feminine, just quiet and rather shy.
* NiceGirl: Ignoring her short temper and brash attitude, Naditza is kind, selfless and caring, and she mellows out later on.
* NoListeningSkills: When she gets angry at Filippo, she doesn't even let him explain what's up.
* OutOfFocus: In the first two seasons, she's the most important female character. In season 3, she only appears in some scenes with Filippo outside of the prison, but is later PutOnABus.
* PoliticallyIncorrectHero: She's a homophobic slur against Pino in season 1. Ironically, she's often the victim of this, since her Romani culture is often discriminated.
* PutOnABus: [[spoiler: She leaves Filippo in the middle of season 3, when they are escaping from prison. Filippo comes back to prison alone.]]
* TheRival: She really hates Viola. She's the first girl who tries to stand up to her, although ineffectively.
* RoguishRomani: She's referred to as a "gypsy", and she's also a pickpocket (initially) who has been in prison several times. While she's still portrayed in a sympathetic light, her parents are horrible people and show all the negative stereotypes.
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: Her love interest is NiceGuy Filippo.
* StepfordSmiler: Acts like a friendly and fun-loving girl around the other girls in prison (except her ArchEnemy Viola). While she ''genuinely'' reacts with positivity to things that happen to her, she's ''still'' trying to run away from her horrible family.
* {{Tsundere}}: She often switches between being friendly and angry, especially with Filippo. It gets worse in season 3, see TookALevelInJerkass.
* TookALevelInJerkass: In season 3. Just because she thinks Filippo is changing, she abandons him on an island, after everything they have been through together, instead of trying to reason with him. This is especially sad, since it's her last appearance in the series.
* UngratefulBitch: When Filippo saved her life after the gang of girls tries to kill her, she completely scolded him and brushes him off.

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mfvio.jpg]]
->'''Played by:''' Serena De Ferrari

An extremely sadistic girl who is hated by everyone. She's in prison for brutally killing her "best friend" because of a petty argument.
----
* AlasPoorVillain: [[spoiler: In her last episode "L'età dell'innocenza", we learn about her FredianExcuse. She's heavily implied to be mentally ill, and she also admits that she stopped having feelings since the first time her father whipped her. In her last scene, we see Paola hugging her and promising to help her, but Viola jumps to her death anyway.]]
* AmbiguouslyGay: Viola isn't attracted to any of the guys in prison, not even Ciro since she rejects his advances in season 1. She kisses Gaetano in one episode but only to give him a knife to kill Filippo. She seems to be attracted to a few girls, since she kisses both Rosa and Paola in season 3, although it's not clear if the kisses are sincere or just her usual way to provoke people.
* AnimalMotifs: Snakes. She's a dangerous, sadistic, devious, cruel and slimy - a textbook SmugSnake. And she has a snake tattoo on her stomach.
* AxCrazy: She's a dangerous psychopath who should be in a mental institution rather than a juvenile prison. In a flashback, she killed her best friend with a knife and SlasherSmile for no reason, if not that she had sex with a boy in the caravan they lived in.
* BlatantLies: Viola says she's good with kids. At the end of the same episode, she tries to throw an infant off the roof.
* BullyingADragon: In season 3, she repeatedly taunts Rosa about [[spoiler: her brother's death. Telling her that Ciro deserved to die because he was a "loser", and burning Ciro's picture in Rosa's room.]] Rosa is a dangerous MafiaPrincess, so you can imagine her reaction.
* ByronicHeroine: A villainous example. Intelligent, aloof, arrogant, extremely manipulative, mentally and emotionally unstable, absurdly self-destructive, cynical, physically attractive, concerned with personal interests and ultimately full of troubles and very depressed.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: A dramatically villainous example. She's a being of pure evil and revealed to be ''very'' mentally twisted since childhood, while killing chickens alongside her ImaginaryFriend Martina and saying crazy stuff while talking to her mother. However, while she's definitely crazy and lives in her own world, she's also an excellent manipulator.
* DrivenToSuicide: [[spoiler: In season 3, she kills herself by jumping off a roof.]]
* EmotionlessGirl: She's apathetic and never shows any emotion aside from hatred and sadism. This is because she stopped feeling emotions as a younger girl.
* EnfantTerrible: As we see in a flashback, she was terrible even as a child, since she enjoyed killing animals, especially chickens.
* EvilRedhead: The redheaded Viola is the most sadistic and cruel character, and loves to manipulate and torture people.
* EvilerThanThou: While some guys (especially Ciro) are villainous characters, [[EvenEvilHasStandards they still have kind of a code of honor]] and [[EvenEvilHasLovedOnes someone they care for]]. Viola instead is a complete psychopath who doesn't care for anyone and acts ForTheEvulz.
* EvilWearsBlack: She normally wears black and is ''very'' evil.
* FalseFriend: To Serena and Gemma. She pretends to be her friend but is just toxic and cruel to them, playing with their emotional fragility.
* FauxAffablyEvil: She pretends to be nice to Serena and Gemma, while trying to destroy them ForTheEvulz.
** She manipulates Serena into a drug relapse by giving her heroin, as Serena is trying to recover from her addiction.
** She contacts Gemma's violent and abusive ex-boyfriend to keep him in touch with her, because she knows Gemma is a LoveMartyr who is still in love with that guy and can't say "no" to him.
* FilleFatale: In season 1, she uses her dark feminine appeal to seduce Ciro, who is clearly attracted to her. In season 2, she gives Gaetano a passionate kiss out of nowhere (and he seems to enjoy it) only to put a knife in his pocket, so he would have been able to kill Filippo.
* {{Foil}}: Pretty much represents what Naditza is ''not''.
* ForTheEvulz: Her reason for living. She's evil to everyone just because she likes being evil, for no reason whatsoever.
* FreudianExcuse: [[spoiler: She had abusive parents who never gave her psychological help, despite her obvious mental illness. Her father used to beat her with a whip, with the encouragement of Viola's cold and verbally abusive mother.]]
* FriendlessBackground: ZigZagged. The most recent flashback shows that she used to have a friend (eventually killed by Viola herself) before going to prison. But in the older flashbacks about both her childhood and high school years, she didn't have any friends at all, aside from her ImaginaryFriend Martina when she was a kid.
* HatedByAll: All the girls in prison hate her for being twisted and sociopathic. [[TheIngenue Gemma]] is the exception initially, but even she starts to hate her in season 3. Giulia, another ruthless girl, briefly befriends Viola in one episode, but [[EvenEvilHasStandards breaks the friendship]] when she sees Viola bullying Rosa for no reason.
* HarmfulToMinors: When she was child, her worst experience is when she was whipped by her father. It's the main reason why she is the way she is.
* HateSink: While most of the inmates have done horrible things, they all have sympathetic traits, genuine bonds with other people, and CharacterDevelopment, even the most villainous ones. Except for Viola, whose only defining trait is being an irredeemably evil and sadistic creep who hates everyone and enjoys hurting people for no reason.
* {{Jerkass}}: She's cruel, sociopathic, unsympathetic, and very harmful to other girls. She never has PetTheDog moments [[spoiler: until she says some genuinely nice words to Paola in a vulnerable moment, before killing herself.]]
* JerkassToOne:
** {{Downplayed}} as she's very much a jerk to everyone, but while she pretends to be nice towards characters such as Ciro, Serena and Gemma, she's particularly smug and obnoxious towards Naditza, knowing that the latter hates her from the start and provoking her short temper.
** Viola hates everyone and is always cruel to everyone, but in early episodes her favorite targets are naive {{Extreme Doormat}}s like Serena and Gemma. Then in season 3, she starts picking on MafiaPrincess Rosa Ricci, which is [[BullyingADragon not exactly a smart move.]]
* KarmaHoudiniWarranty: In the two first seasons, she gets away with almost everything she does. In season three, she gets her comeuppance in the form of Rosa brutally attacking her and [[spoiler: she ends up killing herself in the middle of the season.]]
* JerkWithAHeartOfJerk: ''Very'' much so. Every time she seems to help insecure and fragile characters such as Gemma or Serena, and seems to have nicer moments, she's just revealed to manipulate them and is shown to be just acting ForTheEvulz.
* LackOfEmpathy: She doen't feel any remorse or sympathy whenever she watches people suffer, since she finds it [[{{Sadist}} satisfying]].
* ManipulativeBitch: She's able to manipulate other girls, especially the naive ones like Serena and Gemma. She pretends to help her during their vulnerable moments, while she's just trying to ruin their lives even more.
* MoreHateableMinorVillain: While Ciro is the main villain (who targets the two main heroes) and Viola is a minor villain (who is just there to create chaos among secondary characters), Viola is written to be [[HateSink the most loathsome]] character. Ciro is cold and ruthless in his Camorra business, but he ''does'' have some bonds with other people, and feels horribly guilty when he's forced to kill his best friend in a flashback. In contrast, Viola is only motivated by sadism, HatesEveryoneEqually, and gleefully kills her best friend without remorse. Also, Ciro genuinely likes Viola, while Viola [[spoiler: coldly calls Ciro a "loser" after he dies.]]
* OddNameOut: She has a more modern name than all the other characters, since Viola has become a popular name in Italy only in the late 2000s and even more in the 2010s, but it was rarely used before. The other female characters (aside from the foreign ones) have more old-fashioned names like Gemma, Rosa, Teresa, and Carmela. Even Silvia, while less outdated than these four, is a name that peaked in the 70s and 80s.
* RedheadsAreUncool: Despite being an attractive and tough girl with strong manipulative skills, she is hated by everyone and is a loner in a juvenile prison.
* TheRival:
** To Naditza in season 1, although indirectly. Naditza hates Viola because the latter bullies Naditza's friends. Viola couldn't care less about Naditza's hatred and actually finds it satisfying.
** To Rosa in season 3, much more directly. Viola openly antagonizes Rosa, which results in violent fights between the two.
* {{Sadist}}: The only thing that makes her happy is watching other people suffer.
* SmugSnake: She's an egotistical, arrogant, cruel, smug and devious villainess, and again she even has a snake tattoo.
* TokenEvilTeammate: She is the only evil one in the group of girls, as the other girls are mostly portrayed in a sympathetic light or AntiHero at worst. Even if you count the guys, while several of them are villainous, they have some honorable qualities, while Viola is irredeemable and manages to be more evil than all of them.
* WouldHurtAChild: [[spoiler: She tried to throw baby Futura off the roof. Thankfully, Rosa saved Futura in time.]]

A girl in an abusive relationship with a guy named Fabio. She's in prison for shooting Fabio after the latter threw acid into the face of Gemma's sister Ambra (mistaking her for Gemma herself).
----
* BewareTheNiceOnes:
** She's a good person, shy and generally very kind, but she shoots Fabio after the latter's AcidAttack on Ambra.
** In season three, she finally stands up to Viola after finding out the latter sets up Fabio's meeting with her. Again, Viola deserves it.
* BreakTheCutie: The poor girl couldn’t catch a break, it all involves around her storyline with her abusive and violent boyfriend, Fabio.
* BrokenBird: Her relationship with Fabio leads her to be shy, sad, and traumatized.
* DatingWhatDaddyHates: Her mother hates Fabio and wanted to stay away from Gemma.
* EarnYourHappyEnding: Despite having broken up with Gianni, she could forever be free from the Fabio drama and reunite with her sister, when she's released from prison.
* ExtremeDoormat: A dramatic example. She's submissive because she loves Fabio and keeps forgiving him for his abusive behavior.
* GoodIsDumb: Though, rather than outright ''stupid'', she's extremely naive and easy to manipulate, but she is a well-meaning NiceGirl. If she's dumb in many of her choices, it's because LoveMakesYouDumb. She gets better [[spoiler:when Fabio is accidentally killed by Gianni]].
* GoodIsNotSoft: She doesn't hesitate to shoot Fabio in her backstory, underneath her soft and pleasant personality.
* GrewASpine: In Season 3, she finally stood up to Viola after finding out she set Fabio up just so he could stalk Gemma and then make her fall in love with him.
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: She still believes in "true love" between her and Fabio, who is a violent domestic abuser. In the early episodes, she also trusts the ObviouslyEvil Viola, even if Naditza warned her many times to stay away from her. She starts to hate Viola in season 3, though.
* TheIngenue: Not a bad person by any means, but her naivety and tendency to trust the wrong people are huge {{Fatal Flaw}}s.
* ItsAllMyFault: She blames herself for making bad decisions of her love life.
* LittleSisterInstinct: She shoots Fabio after he poured acid on her older sister, Ambra's face.
* LoveMakesYouDumb: She often makes idiotic choices due to her love for violent and murderous {{Jerkass}} Fabio.
** She's still in love with Fabio (and willing to forgive him) even ''after'' the latter tries to kill her with a AcidAttack, causing Gemma's sister Ambra to be attacked with acid in her place and ending up with a disfigured face.
** In season 2, she starts a relationship with Gianni (a NiceGuy who genuinely loves her), and yet she cheats on him with Fabio during her temporary release from prison. She gets beaten up once again.
* LoveMartyr: She always wants to give Fabio another chance. Her mother and her sister only want her to stay away from Fabio, but Gemma somehow remains devoted to him. While Gemma shoots Fabio after the latter almost kills her sister, she later starts missing him again in prison.
* NiceGirl: A kind and morally good person, sadly with a tendency to trust others even to a fault.
* ProneToTears: She cried easily when people told her off and even cries when she feels bad.
* PutOnABus: She was released from prison to be reunited with her sister and it includes breaking up with Gianni for good.
* ShrinkingViolet: She's a shy girl who lacks self-confidence and is easy to manipulate.
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodman: She develops a relationship with NiceGuy Gianni, who cared for her and helped her understanding how toxic her relationship was.
* SuperGullible: Sadly, she's extremely easy to manipulate, due to her naive and emotionally fragile nature.
* UptownGirl: She is implied to be well-off, and has a relationship with Gianni, who is from a poor family.
* WhatDoesSheSeeInHim: It's not clear what she exactly sees in Fabio. Everyone else hates him.

A girl who struggles with drug addiction and is often bullied by Viola. She was arrested for armed robbery.
----
* BreakTheCutie: Taking advantage of Serena's passivity, Viola manipulates her into falling back on her drug addictions. Viola also forces Serena to [[SelfHarm cut herself]] as a punishment for not following Viola's orders. It's shown how much Serena is suffering, both physically and mentally.
* CharacterDeath: [[spoiler: Even after she tries to start a new life outside of prison, she suffers from a heroin relapse and dies at the end of season 1.]]
* DaddysGirl: She has a very loving father who tries to help her in every way.
* EarnYourHappyEnding: [[spoiler: Sadly subverted. Serena gets out of prison and tries to start a new life. Near the end of episode 11, she suffers from a heroin relapse and dies.]]
* ExtremeDoormat: Like Gemma, a dramatic example. She's very submissive to Viola.
* ForgottenFallenFriend: She's a close friend of Naditza and Silvia, [[spoiler: but after her death, she's never mentioned again. By contrast, other more villainous inmates like Ciro, Gaetano, and Viola are mentioned many times after their death.]]
* NiceGirl: She's a genuinely well-meaning and kind character, though her depression, addiction and naive nature get the better of her.
* SuperGullible: Just like Gemma, she's dramatically easy to manipulate, being equally naive and emotionally fragile.

A somewhat vapid but friendly girl. She is in prison after being framed for transporting cocaine by her ex-boyfriend.

* AgeGapRomance: She has this relationship with Alfredo who is a grown man, and she is already 18.
* AlliterativeName: '''S'''ilvia '''S'''cacco
* AscendedExtra: She's a SatelliteCharacter in season 1. Starting in season 2, she gets more development and we learn about her backstory.
* CantGetAwayWithNuthin: She tries to steal a dress from ''[[AxCrazy Viola]]'' in one episode. When Viola discovers it, she makes her pay for it, obviously in a cruel way.
* DisappearedDad: In her backstory, her father died when she was a child.
* DumbIsGood: {{Downplayed}}; she's one of the nicest characters and is boy-crazy and somewhat shallow. But she's not ''stupid''.
* EvenTheLovingHeroHasHatedOnes: She is kind and loving to pretty much everyone but crearly dislikes Viola. Understandable, given we're talking about ''[[TheSociopath Viola]]''.
* GenkiGirl: She's very cheerful, outgoing and energetic, with an optimistic and positive nature.
* GoodBadGirl: She's very boy-crazy and knows how to attract men with her physical appearance. But she's also a very good-natured NiceGirl who has a good friendship with all the girls in prison (except, for obvious reasons, [[TokenEvilTeammate Viola]]).
* HeroicBastard: She's the daughter of a rich man and his mistress, as her father was married to another woman and also had children with her.
* HiddenDepths: While she's fun to be around, cheerful, optimistic, flirty and a little bit shallow, she reveals that indeed she's very private and reserved about her feelings.
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: In her backstory, she falls in love with a guy older than her who gave her a fake name and framed her for transporting cocaine after a brief relationship.
* LikesOlderMen: She was first attracted to a older guy in her backstory, [[AmicableExes they remain friends for a while]], and when she gets out of prison, they seemingly start dating again. In season 3, there's also a random scene where she kisses Lino, one of the guards.
* LovableSexManiac: Silvia is quite obsessed with attractive men and often makes jokes about sex, but she's also one of the kindest characters in the series.
* MsFanservice: She often wears rather revealing clothes and sleeps in underwear. And, on top of that, she's very flirty.
* NiceGirl: She's very friendly, cheerful and affable.
* ThePollyanna: She’s rarely has any negative bone in her body, until she (sort of) TookALevelInCynic in season 4.
* TookALevelInCynic: {{Downplayed}}, but in S4 she becomes more of a realist and less frivolous all in all.

A girl of African descent. She's in prison after stabbing her own mother after the latter wanted to force her into prostitution.
----
* AloofDarkHairedGirl: A tall, attractive, black-skinned and dark-haired girl who is rather standoffish and closed-off, at least at first.
* AmazonianBeauty: A StatuesqueStunner with a very fit, athletic and pretty muscular physique.
* AnimalMotifs: Compared to a panther for being a black girl who's also among the hottest females in the series.
* BookSmart: Pretty much the only character in prison who is interested in academics. She eventually gets her high school diploma in prison, and with a perfect score.
* DefrostingIceQueen: She's initially cold and angry to almost everyone, especially the men. Later on, she warms up to Pino, becomes nicer to Beppe, and decides to forgive her mother. [[spoiler: Sadly, her mother died before they could make peace.]]
* DudeMagnet: She attracts Pino (who is crazy about her), Diego (who is willing to fight to have her), and one of her mother's clients (unfortunately).
* EvenTheGirlsWantHer: Even according to Silvia, Kubra is "smoking hot", and she admits that if she was homosexual she would have fallen in love with her.
* FreudianExcuse: She's an underage girl who grew up in poverty, and neglected by her mother who was too busy working as a prostitute, something Kubra hated. When her mother asked her to do "a favor" for a client who was attracted to her daughter, it was the last straw.
* IconicSequelCharacter: Doesn't appear in season 1, but is one of the main female characters in season 2, 3, and 4.
* ItsAllMyFault: She feels guilty for her mother's death.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: She eventually softens up and becomes less angry, especially after she starts dating Pino. Pino himself, the first time he has a conversation with her, says she has a good heart deep down despite her attitude. And just like Pino, she becomes a NiceGirl in S4.
* MommyIssues: She has a difficult relationship with her mother due to her working as a prositute. However, Kubra does try to make peace with her, but it was too late for as her mother dies.
* MsFanservice: A very attractive girl with a well-built physique who near constantly wears belly shirts.
* NiceGirl: Introduced as angry and standoffish, Kubra becomes this in S4 nonetheless. She's overall levelheaded, kind and decides to become a law student to help others.
* OnlySaneWoman: Not really in the beginning, but in season 3 and 4, she's the most normal and reasonable of the female characters, by the standard of this series. She still has her faults, but they are relatively minor in later episodes.
* PromotionToOpeningTitles: She's a FakeGuestStar in season 2 (probably because she's introduced in the third episode of this season, despite being a major character since her introduction). The name of the actress is added to the opening credits in season 3.
* SassyBlackWoman: She's a black girl with a temper and has a straight up attitude.
* SoBeautifulItsACurse: Kubra is definitely attractive and gets attention from men which she doesn't want at all, especially her mother's sleazy client. Also, Diego's interest in her in season 3 ends up messing with her relationship with Pino.
* StatuesqueStunner: Tall, beautiful and has a very well-built figure.
* TokenMinority: Initially the only black character in the cast, until a black inmate named Diego is introduced in season 3.
* TookALevelInKindness: Very much so, especially in S4.

Ciro's sister and Don Salvatore's youngest child. She's CapturedOnPurpose to avenge the death of her brother Ciro, by killing Carmine.
----
* AlliterativeName: '''R'''osa '''R'''icci.
* AloofDarkHairedGirl: She has black hair, and on the surface, she mixes a haughty and aloof attitude with a hot temper and willingness to avenge her brother.
* AntiVillain: At first she's this. Rosa is not evil, she just wants to avenge her brother and clearly has a strong sense of loyalty towards her villainous family. After her HeelFaceTurn, of course, she's firmly on the side of good.
* BareMidriffsAreFeminine: InvertedTrope - Rosa often wears midriff-baring tops, but very much in TankTopTomboy fashion rather than to accentuate feminine appeal.
* BelligerentSexualTension: With Carmine. She wants to kill him, but they are obviously attracted to each other.
* BigBrotherWorship: She deeply loved and respected her older brother Ciro. Insulting him is a BerserkButton for her.
* BigDamnHeroes: [[spoiler:She saves the life of Futura, Carmine's baby daughter, when Viola tries to throw the baby off the roof.]]
* BreakoutCharacter: Best example on this show, next to Edoardo. After her introduction in the last two episodes of season 2, she becomes very popular. Starting in season 3, she becomes the female lead and Carmine's LoveInterest.
* BrokenBird: She becomes broken in season 4 after her father's death, and she breaks up with Carmine. Even more so at the end of the season, when she finds out that her close friend Edoardo was the one who killed her father.
* DaddysGirl: As a MafiaPrincess, she has a close relationship with her father. By the end of the season, she finds out that her father Don Salvatore tried to kill their close family friend Edoardo, causing a BrokenPedestal about her relationship with him.
* DarkIsNotEvil: Usually wears black clothes fitting her status as TheLadette, but she's on the side of good.
* DefrostingIceQueen: She goes from hating Carmine to falling in love with him.
* FullNameBasis: She's often referred to as "Rosa Ricci" on the show, and many viewers also refer to her as such.
* GoodIsNotNice: She is often hostile, tough and aloof, but she'll protect anyone she cares for from being hurt. And despite being the daughter of a Mafia boss, she isn't a bad person by any means.
* HeelFaceTurn: She starts off as a MafiaPrincess and DarkActionGirl who wants to kill Carmine. But she ends up falling in love with him and saving the life of Carmine's daughter.
* IconicSequelCharacter: She's introduced near the end of season 2, but has a very big role in season 3, and now she's one of the most famous characters on the show.
* IronicName: Her name sounds feminine (in Italian, Rosa means both "pink" and "rose") but Rosa herself is TheLadette who usually wears black. Although one episode shows that her bedroom has a [[TomboyWithAGirlyStreak rose-themed bed]] and one of her tattoos is also a rose.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: For all her violence and her brash, tough and aloof attitude, Rosa is also a loyal and protective girl at heart.
* TheLadette: She smokes, swears (with a Neapolitan accent), is violent, can use weapons, has tattoos, and often wears black outfits and [[TankTopTomboy tanktops]].
* LikeBrotherAndSister: With Edoardo, her brother's best friend (and her best friend Carmela's romantic partner). They seem to be close, and Edoardo loves her like a sister.
* LittleMissBadass: A darker example, but she's very involved with the family business, respected by everyone, and is a tough fighter who isn't afraid of anything.
* MafiaPrincess: The daughter of Camorra boss Don Salvatore Ricci. Judging by her house and her bedroom, she lives in luxury.
* MsFanservice: She's attractive, if tomboyish, and often wears skimpy clothes.
* MsViceGirl: She's tattooed, smokes and swears, but has a good heart and is loyal and caring deep down.
* PromotionToOpeningTitles: She makes two appearances in season 2. The name of the actress is added to the opening credits in season 3.
* SecondLove: After Nina's death, she's the second woman Carmine falls in love with. She's also the opposite of the wholesome Nina, and it makes their StarCrossedLovers relationship even more unlikely.
* SoleSurvivor: By season 4, she's the only survivor of the Ricci family, or so she believes since her father and both her brothers were killed. [[spoiler: But her mother is actually still alive.]]
* SugarAndIcePersonality: She alternates between a tough, standoffish and aloof demeanor and a HotBlooded and brash one, but she still is a good person at heart and definitely has a soft side towards the people she cares about.
* TankTopTomboy: She's quite TheLadette and usually wears black tank tops.
* TokenReligiousTeammate: Among the girls, she's the only one who often goes praying in the jail's chapel. And she's proud to believe in God like her father did.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: The Tomboy to her friend Carmela's Girly Girl. Rosa is a tough LittleMissBadass who wears black, has many tattoos, and isn't afraid of fighting and using violence. Carmela may be kind of a hothead but is more conventionally feminine and is happy with her role as Edoardo's wife.
* TomboyWithAGirlyStreak: Despite her black clothes, tattoos, fighting skills, and tough personality, she's still a MafiaPrincess and the "princess" part is proven by her jewelry, makeup, and over-the-top pink bedroom, where even her bed is filled with flowers (roses, specifically, it's even in her name).
* UndyingLoyalty: To her father, sadly. Rosa is not evil but is still unwaveringly loyal to her father despite his villainy.
* UptownGirl: To Carmine. While she and Carmine are both children of Camorra bosses, the Ricci family appears to be much richer than the Di Salvo family... at first sight. Season 3 reveals that the Di Salvo family is actually the most powerful Camorra family in town, so it's possible that [[TheQueenpin Wanda Di Salvo]] is just keeping low profile.
* WhiteSheep: The only heroic individual in her family, despite her initially antagonistic role.

->'''Played by:''' Clara Soccini

A trap artist who was also the leader of a gang of young delinquents. She's in prison for vehicular homicide.
----
* AmbiguouslyEvil: Clearly ''not'' a positive character, but rather than outright ''evil'' she just seems to be very twisted and with a distorted outlook.
* AmbitionIsEvil: She stole Gianni and Filippo's song after Valentina convinced her to, she wanted to be on herself on the radio.
* AntiVillain: She doesn't act for the sake of evil. She's just insane and twisted.
* AxCrazy: In the flashbacks of her backstory, she wanted to ''set a guy on fire''. Even the members of her gang [[EvenEvilHasStandards abandoned her]], letting the poor guy run away. That said, she probably was heavily under drugs and alcohol rather than acting ForTheEvulz, but for sure she's quite insane and violent.
* BlueAndOrangeMorality: Her principle is to be yourself and not to please others for who they want you to be. The problem is that she couldn't care the less if she causes damage to others living by that principle.
* BrattyTeenageDaughter: Since she starts her life as a bad girl, she snarks and behaves badly at her mother according to her backstory. Though it's understandable to an extent, given her mother represents her FreudianExcuse, given her cold and judgemental nature.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Very negative example. Her ideas are definitely insane, such as her willingness to set a guy on fire and her ''actually'' setting a recording studio on fire, putting other's lives as well as hers at risk. As she did the latter, after Gianni confronts her, she still thinks she did the right thing.
* DarkIsEvil: Near constantly wears dark clothes, dark makeup on top of that, and if not straight-up ''evil'' she's still an insane and twisted creep.
* EmotionlessGirl: After she has sex with a guy for the first time and he publishes the video everywhere, with her judgemental mother just being cold to her after that, she becomes a cold, apathetic bad girl.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: If not outright ''evil'', she's clearly an arrogant jerk, not the most morally upstanding character in the series, and neither psychologically well-balanced, to put it mildly. But at least she has some standards.
** While she's willing to befriend the AxCrazy Viola at first, this doesn't even last one episode, after Giulia sees Viola trying to strangle Rosa. Giulia comes to Rosa's defense and immediately ends her friendship with Viola.
** She's initially reluctant to steal Gianni's song and thinks it's not fair. Unfortunately, Valentina convinces her.
* FreudianExcuse: She comes from a strict, bigoted family, and when she has sex with a guy she was dating for the first time, the latter publishes the video. Her mother being cold, judgemental and unsupportive of her during that moment turns her into the twisted person she is.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: Due to her ''very'' twisted nature, except Raffaele who is clearly attracted to her, nobody seems to like her. Even the guards such as Massimo are happy when they have to transfer her to a prison in Milan, after she sets the recording studio on fire, and they all think she's dangerous for both herself and others.
* GirlishPigtails: She often wears her hair in high breaded pigtails, and is definitely an immature and bratty teenager.
* GoodGirlGoneBad: In season 4, we learn that she used to be a goody two-shoes who followed the rules of her religious mother, before turning into a bad girl and TheLadette.
* HatedByAll: Given her twisted nature, no one likes her among her inmates. Except Raffaele.
* InSeriesNickname: She's often referred to as "Crazy J", her StageName.
* {{Jerkass}}: She may not outright act ForTheEvulz like Viola, but she's generally unpleasant and violent, not to mention she's also ''very'' arrogant and mentally unstable.
* KarmaHoudini: In season 3, she has suffered no consequences for stealing Gianni's song. The one who did was instead music producer Valentina, thankfully.
* KarmaHoudiniWarranty: In season 4, she's frustrated with her new music producer and eventually she's the one who sets the recording studio on fire. She's PutOnABus after that.
* TheLadette: And how, mainly because of her outfit, attitude, and her voice.
* MakeupIsEvil: Starts to wear dark makeup while changing her lifestyle and becoming a bad girl.
* PutOnABusToHell: In the middle of season 4, she is transferred to another prison and leaves the IPM without any music contract, after being rejected by Gianni, and with almost all the characters hating her. At least, she has [[ThrowTheDogABone a nice goodbye scene]] with Raffaele, the only character who still likes her and respects her.
* StatuesqueStunner: Despite her rude and {{tomboy}}ish attitude, she's very attractive, and is also tall and physically fit.
* TechnicianVersusPerformer: The Performer to Gianni's Technician. Gianni is a better songwriter but, according to Valentina, he lacks Giulia's singing talent. That's why Valentina convinces Giulia to steal Gianni's song.
* TokenEvilTeammate: After [[spoiler:Viola's death]], she's the most cruel and antagonistic of all the girls in prison.
* {{Tomboy}}: One of the most tomboyish girls in the cast, because of her outfits, confrontational attitude, liking trap music, and her backstory showing her to be OneOfTheBoys with a young gang of thugs (she was even the leader).

An Ukrainian refugee who is in prison for killing a man (it's later revelaed to be self-defense).
----
* AccidentalMurder: By defending herself from a man who assaulted her. She pushed him and he fell off a hut.
* BewareTheQuietOnes: She's mute initially, but becomes extremely aggressive to anyone who tries to talk to her, except Gianni eventually. She gets better though.
* CreepyLonerGirl: How others do see her due to her status as a loner and her violent reactions. She's not a bad person by any means though, just a lonely and scared girl.
* CuteBruiser: She's stronger than she looks, and proves to be able to beat up Giulia (the ruthless bad girl of the prison) twice.
* CuteMute: While she refuses to talk to anyone, her interactions with Gianni show she's just a lonely and vulnerable girl who had a hard life, and her closeness to him makes her become more endearing. However, she stops being mute in the second half of season 4.
* DefrostingIceQueen: A very standoffish and angry girl who never talks to anyone at first, but she gets much better at the end of season 4, thanks to her friendship with Gianni.
* TheDreaded: According to the other inmates, she's even more creepy and scary than Viola. But unlike Viola, Alina is not an evil psychopath, just wants to be left alone, and leaves people alone if they don't bother her or Gianni.
* FreudianExcuse: She's a war refugee who was separated from her younger brother, since the latter was adpoted by an Italian family. Her main plot is about her desperate need to see her brother again. That's why she's so hostile.
* LastEpisodeNewCharacter: Introduced in the last episode of season 3, where she's only seen in one scene. She's one of the main characters in season 4.
* ShipTease: With Gianni. While they are just friends, they become so close that a possible relationship in the future is very likely.
* SugarAndIcePersonality: She was angry and cynical at the beginning, but at the end of season 4, she warms up to Gianni and is shown not to be a bad person by any means.
* TheSpeechless: She doesn't say a single word in the first half of season 4. In the second half, she starts to speak.

The director of the prison.
----
* AmicablyDivorced: Her ex-husband is a NiceGuy and they are still friendly to each other.
* DefrostingIceQueen: She's stern and uptight for most of season 1. She softens up a lot in later episodes, due to her interaction with the prison commander and the inmates.
* FreudianExcuse: In season 1, she has strict personality, even to the point of being a little rude. Until we learn she lost her child when she was pregnant due to a tragic accident, and she's no longer able to have children.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: After her DefrostingIceQueen in season one, she's one of the most heroic and supportive adults in the series.
* HandicappedBadass: She has a limp, but has an important position in her job as the director, and is a respected figure.
* HookerWithAHeartOfGold: Not exactly a hooker, but for a brief time after her dramatic accident, she fights her depression with promiscuity.
* NiceGirl: Especially post-CharacterDevelopment. Early on, she's somewhat of a JerkWithAHeartOfGold, undoubtedly a good person who strives to do the right thing but is a bit too strict and frank, and obsessed with rules. Later on, though, she softens a lot and becomes much friendlier and empathizes a lot with the young inmates.
* ParentalSubstitute: For a period, she takes custody of baby Futura, Carmine and Nina's child. [[spoiler:This happens because of Nina's death and Carmine being still devastated and unable to take care of her.]]
* PutOnABus: In season 3, [[spoiler:she is forced to leave the prison after Viola's suicide.]]

* BewareTheNiceOnes: He is a good guy, but he gets pissed off when kids in prison starts misbehaving.
* JerkassBall: In season 4, for understandable reasons since his wife was raped by the henchmen of [[TheQueenPin Carmine's mother]], and he undergoes a pretty hard family crisis with his wife and his son. He becomes cold and angry to all the inmates, including Carmine, although he gets better by the end of the season.
* MarriedToTheJob: Due to Massimo spending too much time at work, his wife Consuelo feels neglected and they end up separating in season 2.
* NiceGuy: He's portrayed as a good-natured character since the beginning.
* ParentalSubstitute: To Carmine. Due to Carmine's strained relationship with his own family, Massimo tries his best to be a father figure to him.
* ParentsAsPeople: He genuinely loves his son Pietro and they have a decent relationship, but he's so MarriedToTheJob that he doesn't spend much time with him.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: He's always trying to support and understand the young inmates, and make them realize their mistakes. He's only strict when he needs to be.
* ShipTease: With Paola, the director. [[spoiler:They get together, but end their relationship after Paola is PutOnABus.]]

* BewareTheNiceOnes: He finally gets mad at his brother, after learning that the latter framed Latifah.
* LukeIAmYourFather: [[spoiler:It's later revealed that he is the real father of Latifah's daughter Kubra.]]
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: He deeply regrets the fact he believed his brother who said that Latifah was a prostitute, and has let her go instead of protecting her and stand up for her against the man.
* MyGreatestFailure: He should've protected Latifah in their backstory but instead he believed his brother Alessandro. When he learns the truth he's devastated, angry and sad.
* NiceGuy: Probably the nicest character in the series, to the point that he's an AllLovingHero who always sees the best in people.
* NonIdleRich: He comes from a very rich family, but doesn't care about money, and dedicates his life to helping the others.
* ParentalSubstitute: Tries to be this to all the young inmates. He especially becomes close and supportive of Pino, his daughter's boyfriend, in season 4.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: He has a good approach with the inmates and is always trying to bring their positive side.
* SiblingYinYang: Beppe is an AllLovingHero and NiceGuy who falls in love with Latifah, a black woman, doesn't care about being rich and wants to help others. His brother Alessandro is an arrogant and racist {{Jerkass}} who hates Latifah and only cares about money.

One of the guards. Initially corrupt, but he has a nice side.
----
* AscendedExtra: In season 1, he's mostly a SatelliteCharacter who gives secret informations to [[BigBad Ciro]]. In season 2, he has his story arc involving his DarkAndTroubledPast and interactions with Sasà. He's less prominent in season 3, though.
* CharacterDevelopment: In season 2, he's shown to be a JerkWithAHeartOfGold thanks to his role in the Sasà story. In season 3, he's no longer corrupt, or so it seems.
* DeadpanSnarker: His snarky and cynical remarks when he interacts with the inmates already show that he's the least nice of the prison staff. He becomes nicer, though.
* FreudianExcuse: When he was a teenager, he was in the car with his father who accidentally ran over a woman and then ran away rather than helping her. That woman died. Lino still feels guilty for this accident and thinks he should have helped her, but his father forced him to keep the secret.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He starts off as cynical and corrupt, but becomes more honest in season 2, when he helps Sasà do the right thing.
* MoralityPet: As Sasà is one to him, he counts as one to the guy. Lino convinces him to confess his crime and do what's right.
* MyGreatestFailure: When he was a kid, his father fell asleep while driving and hit a young woman. Lino wanted to save her, but his father ordered him to run away with him and so they let her die. Lino still regrets this.
* PragmaticHero: At first, unlike the other guards who want to do what's right, he cares more about maintaining balance among the inmates at any cost.
* TokenEvilTeammate: He's not evil, but is the only corrupt adult in the prison staff, at least in season 1. He's no longer this in the following seasons, though.

A new educator who is later reavealed to be a supervisor for the prison's management. Eventually replaces Paola as the new director.
----
* ActionGirl: She has combat skills and is not afraid of showing them against the inmates, at least in season 3. In season 4, she doesn't do any physical fight.
* ContrastingReplacementCharacter: She's a cold, cynical woman and the opposite of TeamMom Paola, whom she replaces. Athough, like Paola before her, she turns into a DefrostingIceQueen in the next season.
* DefrostingIceQueen: Even more than Paola, she starts off as a hardass who is hostile towards the young inmates. After her FreudianExcuse is revealed, she softens up and becomes a more caring authority figure.
* FreudianExcuse: Like almost ''all'' the characters in this series, she has a DarkAndTroubledPast. In her case, she saw her sister dying in front of her, killed by a group of delinquents, which is the reason why she's quite violent and initially hostile towards the inmates.
* JerkassHasAPoint: She makes several good points about the prison being badly managed in season 3, especially after Viola's suicide. Massimo and Paola were too idealistic in believing that all the young inmates can grow into better people: Viola was very obviously a dangerous psychopath who should have been transferred to a mental institution immediately, instead of keeping her in the juvenile prison.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: She's rather cynical, rough around the edges and can be cold and violent, but she's a good person at heart and strives to do the right thing.
* OppositesAttract: With Beppe, who is from the start likely the nicest and most idealistic man in the prison staff. They have a lot of ShipTease in season 4.
* ParentalSubstitute: In season 4, she becomes a mother figure to Rosa, mirroring Massimo's father figure relationship with Carmine.
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: The reason why she is interested in Beppe. Despite calling him a doormat and a teddy bear (and him calling her out on her LackOfEmpathy), they finish in bed together that day.
* TookALevelInKindness: Starts off as the most cynical guard, being quite cold, rough and violent and hostile towards the inmates. However, she becomes much nicer and empathetic thanks to the influence of Beppe, Rosa and Massimo.
* {{Tsundere}}: Both in a romantic and non-romantic way. She really ''does'' care for others, she's just bad at showing it due to her heavy repression of feelings and empathy. She gets better eventually.

* KillTheCutie: [[spoiler:The sweet, wholesome Nina ends up being murdered at her own wedding.]]
* LivingEmotionalCrutch: To Carmine. She's the person who makes him always feel fine and happy, and he's noticeably more cheerful around her.
* TheLostLenore: [[spoiler:Carmine spends most of season 2 in despair and mourning Nina's death. He was even plotting to kill her murderer.]]
* NiceGirl: She's a sweet girl and a very loyal girlfriend to Carmine.
* SatelliteLoveInterest: All her scenes revolve around her boyfriend Carmine, since she's not one of the main characters.
* ThePollyanna: She's an optimistic and all around positive girl, despite her boyfriend's troubled life.
* TooGoodForThisSinfulEarth: [[spoiler:One of the few completely innocent characters. She ends up being accidentally killed by a criminal who wanted to kill her boyfriend Carmine instead.]]

[[folder: Teresa Polidori]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/marfter.jpg]]
->'''Played by:''' Ludovica Coscione

A rich student who does voluntary work in prison. Edoardo falls in love with her, and she loves him back.
----
* AllGirlsWantBadBoys: After a few episodes of Edoardo hitting on her, she also falls in love with him, even though Edoardo is a cocky delinquent - though, [[AntiVillain he isn't exactly evil]]. {{Downplayed}} as she doesn't even consider him a bad boy, at least not at first.
* BeautyEqualsGoodness: Played straight at first but later downplayed. She's a beautiful, dainty looking girl and starts off as one of the kindest characters in the series. While she's not a bad person by any means later on, she still TookALevelInJerkass, becoming more selfish and willing to stay with Edoardo no matter what.
* BettyAndVeronica: PlayedWith in regards to Edoardo. Teresa would be the Veronica technically speaking, as she's Edoardo's mistress while Carmela is his long time love interest and wife. But she's the Betty personality wise, as she's meek, kind and naive, while Carmela is HotBlooded, cynical and a little arrogant.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: [[DownplayedTrope A mild example]] after she TookALevelInJerkass. She is polite, well-mannered, and all in all she is portrayed as a good person and her kindness ''is'' genuine, but she also becomes more questionable and selfish in season 4, where she sleeps with Edoardo on his hospital bed and still wants Edoardo for herself, all while knowing that Edoardo already has a depressed wife and a child. That said, it's also a moment of LoveMakesYouDumb and genuinely thinking that Edoardo has chosen ''her'', but if Teresa ''really'' wanted a serious relationship with Edoardo, she could have told him to be honest to his wife and break up, but Teresa simply acts like Carmela doesn't exist.
* DatingWhatDaddyHates: Her father actually confiscates her phone to make her stay away from Edoardo.
* DitzyGenius: She's overall an intelligent, intellectual girl who does well in her studies and also has very high emotional intelligence and empathy. But ''Dear God'' is she naive. At least at first...
* DumbBlonde: Zig-zagged and very much a DownplayedTrope. She is blonde, intellectual, and a serious student, but still naive enough to think that dating a LowerClassLout from a juvenile prison could be a good idea, and genuinely thinks of him as a good person, so she can qualify more as a DitzyGenius.
* EveryoneHasStandards: She was horrified to learn that Edoardo has a girlfriend and son, so she decides to end things with him. Until season 4.
* ExtremeDoormat: DoubleSubverted. She definitely has issues saying no to Edoardo despite his blatantly rude and cocky personality. Then, things change as she learns the truth, but in S4 she acts like Carmela doesn't exist and wants to be with Edoardo again.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: She has blonde hair and is a very nice person. However, she dyed her hair red in the late season three, and in the 4th she TookALevelInJerkass.
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: She genuinely thought Edoardo was a good guy and a faithful boyfriend. After she learns the truth, she's devastated. And even when she believes in the end Edoardo will be with her and has become faithful to her, she's wrong again.
* TheIngenue: Naive enough to fall in love with Edoardo... until she finds out that Edoardo lied to her since the beginning, and he already has a long-time girlfriend and a baby. She's also shocked when she discovers Edoardo's violent side. Later on, it seems she stops being naive as she's determined to have Edoardo all for herself... But then again, despite being sure about being Edoaardo's choice, the guy leaves her and she is ''still'' shown to be naive.
* LightFeminineAndDarkFeminine: Out of Edoardo's two love interests, she's the Light Feminine (naive and well-mannered) to Carmela's Dark Feminine (catty and HotBlooded).
* LoveMakesYouDumb: She was an intelligent and priviliged rich girl with a bright future, but she's ready to give up everything in her life for Edoardo, who is a criminal heavily involved with Camorra, currently in prison, already married to another woman, and he has a child too. Even Teresa's father points out how stupid and self-destructive her behavior is. Unsurprisingly, as seen at the end of season 4, her father turns out to be right.
* LoveMakesYouEvil: Not ''evil'', but falling in love with Edoardo [[TookALevelInJerkass makes her more unfettered and selfish.]] In the long run, she has no qualms stealing Edoardo from Carmela, as she feels like being Edoardo's choice through and through.
* TheMistress: To Edoardo, without even knowing about it at first. In season 4, she fits the trope much better, because she knows Edoardo has a wife and a family.
* NiceGirl: She's very polite, doesn't mind Edoardo's abrasive personality, and is hands down one of the kindest and most selfless characters in the series who volunteers to help the imprisoned. Sadly, she TookALevelInJerkass in season 4, where she continues her affair with Edoardo, even though she knows Edoardo's wife is on the verge of a mental breakdown.
* NoSympathy: ZigZagged - as she learns the truth, Teresa ''does'' show sympathy towards Carmela at first, but in the long run she fundamentally doesn't gives a damn about the girl's feelings, as she genuinely believes Edoardo has chosen ''her'', and keeps spending time with him.
* PitbullDatesPuppy: She's the kind and soft-hearted puppy while Edoardo is the abrasive and cocky pitbull.
* SatelliteLoveInterest: She never has any storyline that doesn't involve Edoardo. Even in season 4, where she gets her first ADayInTheLimelight, all her scenes are about her relationship with Edoardo, and the only thing we learn about her story is that she used to have a generic boyfriend in the past, but he barely appears. In season 4, we also get to know her parents, but only to see how they react to Edoardo in Teresa's life.
* SecondLove: To Edoardo, after his long-time girlfriend/wife Carmela. Despite being married to Carmela, he's still in love with Teresa, although he tries to hide it in season 3 and 4, for the sake of his marriage.
* SecretlySelfish: Easily a consequence of LoveMakesYouDumb - she has been portrayed as an overall selfless character, but after falling in love with Edoardo, aside from the fact she TookALevelInJerkass, she clearly reveals a more unfettered and self-centered side, wanting him all for herself.
* SlutShaming: She got this from Carmela when she arrived at the hospital to see Edoardo.
* SpoiledSweet: She came from the rich family, but she's kind and a friendly person. Although, again, she becomes more questionable in season 4.
* TeenPregnancy: [[spoiler:Edoardo gets her pregnant.]]
* TookALevelInJerkass: In early seasons, she's a NiceGirl who has an affair with Edoardo due to her naivety, since she doesn't know that Edoardo has a wife and a child. In season 4, she doesn't have this excuse anymore: she knows Edoardo is married, she knows Edoardo's wife is a BrokenBird on the verge of a mental breakdown due to her husband's cheating on her, but Teresa continues having an affair with Edaordo, even having sex with him ''on his hospital bed''. Obviously, Edoardo is just as guilty as her, to say the least.
* TheUnfettered: Becomes this in regards to having Edoardo all for herself. When facing Carmela, she just tells her Edoardo has made his choice, namely Teresa.
* UnknownRival: She is this to Carmela due to her affair with Edoardo.
* UptownGirl: Teresa is a well-mannered and ladylike rich girl who is romantically involved with LowerClassLout Edoardo.

->'''Played by:''' Giovanna Sannino

Edaordo's girlfriend (later wife) and the mother of baby Ciro.
----
* AloofDarkHairedGirl: DownplayedTrope - Carmela is attractive, has dark hair and is a fairly proud, tough and cynical girl. But she's more brash and hotheaded than aloof.
* AllGirlsWantBadBoys: Her main love interest is Edoardo, although she has no problem taking him back.
* AscendedExtra: In the first two seasons, she is Edoardo's SatelliteLoveInterest and doesn't appear very often. In season 3, she's far more prominent and fleshed out, and before season 4, she is the only character outside the prison who has ever got her own A DayInTheLimelight.
* BettyAndVeronica: PlayedWith in regards to Edoardo. Technically, she'd be the Betty since she's his long-time love interest, wife and is going to have a child with him. But she has more the personality of the Veronica, as she's tough , HotBlooded and somewhat cocky, while Teresa is meek, kind and naive.
* BreakTheHaughty: Between seasons 3 and 4, Carmela was stuck in the wringer of this, first she got cheated on by her boyfriend/husband Edoardo, then seeing him at the hospital after he was shot had made her worried and emotional, now she found out that Edoardo got Teresa pregnant.
* BrokenBird: She has a terrible backstory due to losing her mother as a child, her father being sexually abusive, and being adopted by the Ricci family. In her adult life, she still suffers and has to deal with her husband cheating on her.
* ClingyJealousGirl: Initially she forgives Edoardo after finding out he cheated on her with Teresa. But when she actually meets Teresa, she starts screaming against her. [[spoiler:In season 4, she gets livid at Edoardo for impregnating Teresa.]]
* EveryoneHasStandards: She may be a ClingyJealousGirl who is willing to attack Teresa, but she stops when Teresa tells her that she's pregnant.
* FreudianExcuse: While not a bad person, she's not particularly nice and is rather hostile and cynical, but in season 3 we find out that she has no mother and her father tried to sexually abuse her.
* GoodIsNotNice: In a very similar way to her best friend Rosa, Carmela is quite brash, hostile, tough and cynical, but is very loyal to her loved ones.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Rosa. They are like sisters since Carmela was welcomed by Rosa's family after running away from home. They are still very close in season 3 and 4, despite Edoardo's drama with Rosa's father.
* JerkassHasAPoint: Carmela doesn't have to be so mean to Teresa, but it's understandable after learning that Teresa is the mistress of Edoardo, so she is definitely allowed to get upset at her.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: She's a little rude, arrogant, haughty, short-tempered and cynical, but is also very loyal and cares for her loved ones.
* LadyMacbeth: In season 4, she has a role in convincing Edoardo to [[spoiler:kill Don Salvatore]] because she thinks he can be a danger to their family.
* LightFeminineAndDarkFeminine: Out of Edoardo's two love interests, she's the Dark Feminine (catty and HotBlooded) to Teresa's Light Feminine (naive and well-mannered). An odd case because, in the BettyAndVeronica situation, she (technically) would be the Betty.
* LoveMartyr: She's madly in love with Edoardo and he's the only one she wants, no matter how many times he cheats on her with Teresa. In fact, she blames only Teresa for their affair. Somewhat justified in that she had a very hard life and Edoardo was her first love.
* MissingMom: It's implied that her mother is deceased.
* OfficialCouple: With Edoardo. They have a baby together, and they already consider each other "married", before actually getting married in season 3. They are both close to the Ricci family, and Carmela is also close to Edoardo's mother.
* SatelliteLoveInterest: In the first 2 seasons, she's this to Edoardo. She's no longer this in season 3: we learn about her backstory, and her friendship with Rosa and the Ricci family.
* SlutShaming: She does this to Teresa after Edoardo's affair with her.
* StepfordSmiler: She acts like Edoardo's confident and assertive girlfriend, but actually has a DarkAndTroubledPast. She also forgives Edoardo for his cheating and pretends it's not important, but deep down she's insecure and jealous.
* TookALevelInJerkass: In season 4. She convinces Edoardo to [[spoiler:kill Don Salvatore]] to protect her own family (since Don Salvatore has tried to kill Edoardo before), without thinking that he's also the father of Rosa, Carmela's best friend. Also, when Edoardo finally decides to break up with her because he loves Teresa more, Carmela uses blackmail to persuade Edoardo to stay with her, because she's the only one who knows where is the Ricci family's dirty money, and basically tells Edoardo "If you choose Teresa, you will have none of the money".

Gemma's abusive love interest.
----
* AssholeVictim: He is an awful guy who abuses Gemma, so there's no chance of him getting sympathy when [[spoiler:Gianni accidentally kills him.]]
* HateSink: Since he's a violent abuser, he only appears to be hated by the audience. Unlike the teenagers in prison, he doesn't appear to have a FreudianExcuse either.
* {{Jerkass}}: He's one of the biggest assholes in the series.
* JerkWithAHeartOfJerk: Every moment where he lets Gemma believe he has redeemed himself, he's constantly shown to actually manipulate her and be the same violent, abusive and possessive guy he's always been.
* KarmicDeath: [[spoiler:At the end of season 2, Fabio was about to beat Gianni to death. While trying to defend himself, Gianni accidentally pushed Fabio off the balcony, killing him.]]
* LonersAreFreaks: A dramatic and very dark example. He's a twisted psychopath with no social contacts, except Gemma. The only "friend" he seems to have is Viola, who's pretty much like him and helps him with his manipulation of Gemma.
* ManipulativeBastard: He's able to manipulate Gemma into thinking there's real love between them, even after abusing her.
* SatelliteLoveInterest: All his scenes revolve around Gemma, and he rarely appears.
* TheSociopath: Unscrupolous, selfish, possessive, manipulative, violent, narcissistic, asocial and psychotic. That's what he ''is'' in spades.
* SmallRoleBigImpact: A minor character who doesn't appear often, but he has ruined Gemma's life and he's the reason why she's in prison. [[spoiler: His death also has an impact on Gianni in season 3.]]
* WouldHurtAChild: He was implied to be much older than Gemma, but he tries to beat Gianni to death during the fight, but it failed because [[spoiler:Gianni pushed Fabio off the balcony and killed him.]]
* WouldHitAGirl: He abuses Gemma a lot. He also pours acid on Gemma's sister Ambra on her face, mistaking her for Gemma.

* NiceGirl: One of the kindest and most benevolent characters in the series. Besides the support she gives to her brother since he's sent to jail, she's also shown to be very helpful towards Carmine, Naditza and Nina.
* TheUnfavorite: Feels like this in regards to her mother, since the latter seems to prefer Filippo, largely due to the fact she counts on the latter's piano skills.
