Novus Partus ("new offspring" in Latin) in the name of the group of antagonists dedicated to the completion of Project 00000Ω: Omega that should result in the creation of a new world befitting their whims. Their base of operations is the underwater base, Subterrene, located directly beneath the surface of the island-country of Bermuda, now known as "New Bermuda" following its depopulation by the Anria. Novus Partus is the main evil organization of Soul Eater: Troubled Souls, containing some of the most significant antagonists.

The organization’s birth was an unintentional one, and it shows through its very small numbers. Only Cancer and Henderson were active when it started. Indeed, Soriano’s insistence in maintaining formalities is the only reason Novus Partus was christened, which happened officially in Act 1 Chapter 36. Regardless since then its numbers are steadily growing.

The main army of Novus Partus is the Anria, mindless abominations of complex origin that are distinctly characterized by their rocky and crystalline appearance. In the Chicago Gang Arc, Novus Partus is in an unofficial alliance with the Other Side Gang to thwart the latter’s titular rivals, but they eventually become official allies at the end due to circumstances playing against them.

* FromNobodyToNightmare: Novus Partus is created as a formality, with Cancer simply thinking of a name right on the spot, and has no organization or structure. The closest is that is the Anria being the primary fighting forces for what they predict to be a giant struggle. But it steadily grows as more people get involved and is taken as a serious threat when the DWMA learns the extent of what Novus Partus encompasses.
* MeaningfulName: "Novus Partus" (new offspring in Latin) was chosen by Cancer as a phrase that summed up her goals. Novus Partus’ aim is to complete Project Omega, the herald of a new world. This can be interpreted in some ways: Omega is the "new offspring" riven from Novus Partus or the new world is the "new offspring" that will come with Project Omega's completion.
* RedOniBlueOni: Cancer's blue to Soriano's red. Kujira's blue to Walena's red. Cancer and Henderson's blue to everyone else's red.
* ScienceFoils: While also an OmnidisciplinaryScientist, Cancer is still TheEngineer who specializes and uses a number of machines and mechanical equipment. She is a person with a broken moral compass driven by furtherance. Kujira is a biologist while Henderson is a doctor; in contrast, the two remain some of the more mild-mannered, careful individuals who focus on the consequences of radical actions (Kujira more than Henderson since he's utterly loyal to Cancer).
* StandardEvilOrganizationSquad: Slowly blooming into one of these, what with its official establishment and growing number of members.

-->“To complete Project 00000Ω: Omega and create a new world with it. A world that does not discriminate, a world not full of lies, a world that does not let your clan get attacked and destroyed, a world that will actually do something about it, a world free of everything that makes this one self-destructive. And most importantly… A world where hope does not exist.”

A member of the Lucrenian Clan, a clan of technologically superior Witches who customarily practice Water Magic. Cancer Lucrenian is the youngest of two daughters between Orpheus and Galene. While mellow in her youth, she is noted to be similar in demeanor to how she is today. Nevertheless, her life changed 223 years prior to the beginning of the story's events. The Lucrenian Clan Incident, where Lord Death sent the Vladingham Family to attack the Lucrenians based on rumors about Project Omega, is when Cancer loses her mother, is separated from her older sister Neptune. and gets her left arm tore off her body. The assault within their homeland of Atlantis leaves half of its inhabitants dead. After the survivors were evicted and Altantis permanently closed off, Cancer went into total recluse, taking what she could of Project Omega with her and silently continuing the project in the clan’s honor.

She comes back from isolation after two hundred years during the Soul Eater Zeta time period. Two before the beginning of Soul Eater: Troubled Souls, Cancer commits her most famous act of atrocity, the Vladingham Family Massacre, out of revenge for her fallen clansmen and sees her success as her greatest accomplishment in life. The attack earned her infamy at Death Weapon Meister Academy, earning her the nickname “Massacre Queen” as well as he ire of many people including Lord Death himself.

Beliefs solidified as a result of the Lucrenian Clan Incident, Cancer's ultimate desire is to complete Project Omega so that it can destroy the world and create a new world, one without hope. Furthermore, she is behind the creation of the Anria, a by-product of her long and extensive research. Needless to say, Cancer Lucrenian boasts the biggest villainous influence in the story.
-----
* AnimalMotifs: Crabs.
* AntiquatedLinguistics: Doesn’t use contractions and has quite the healthy vocabulary to boot.
* BadassBoast:
-->"You all can bark as loud as you wish, try as hard as you like, but I will not yield. You have not an idea what truly awaits you all. You are probably thinking no matter what I say, no matter what creature I send, no matter what I do, my defeat is inevitable. Go ahead and think that. That singular thought is a spark. A spark that incites hope and ignites the hearts of your weary souls. I will extinguish that flame."
* BadassBookworm: The pioneer of Project Omega and the originator of the Anria is no slouch in combat whatsoever. She can expertly wield four different kinds of (related) magic to great effect, she is insanely tough, is proficient at hand-to-hand, and is probably one of the biggest threats in the fic.
* BadassTransplant: Hiding beneath her scarfed arm is a black and blue crab claw, implied to have come from one of her crab summons, that is surgically attached to her flesh at where she presumably lost her old arm during the incident. Its purpose is to basically give her a weapon, one that can block blades and slice things open.
* BaitTheDog: A heartfelt moment ensues between her and Neptune, capping off with Neptune saying "I love you" as Cancer leaves. Cancer says nothing, with the narration stating the lack of a response "stung".
* BarbarianLonghair: During the Vladingham Massacre specifically. Also in Soul Eater Zeta.
* BarrierWarrior: Her usage of Coventina makes her one. Doubles as MakingASplash.
* BewareTheQuietOnes: She is generally quiet and reserved, but this woman is the main antagonist dealing with great dangers in hopes of achieving her lofty ambitions. Don’t mess with her.
* BigBad: Of FanFic/SoulEaterTroubledSouls.
* BloodbathVillainOrigin: The Vladingham massacre is what put Cancer on the Academy’s radar. The threat she imposes is based on the implications behind this successful genocide, and she later gets to prove she's the real deal.
* BloodUpgrade: In their first fight, Cancer really starts laying down the hurt on Maka when she makes her bleed.
* BodyHorror: Her scarves hide a crab-claw arm. We'll let the description below do the talking. Put it this way, it grosses Maka out.
--> "She took a good look at the crab-claw arm. She traced the smooth carapace of the pincer, to the ring of pulsating muscles, and finally to the stitch-like scars connecting her flesh to the organic mass."
* BreakTheBadass: Cancer's sheer implacability intimidates Maka, resulting in her primordial fear causing her to freeze up and lead to a minor HeroicBSOD.
* BrokenBird: Subverted. She is the survivor of a surprise attack on her homeland, losing her mother in the process and gets separated from her older sister as well. Said homeland is forever locked off. She speaks of past companions in the past tense, meaning they are likely dead and gone. Yet, her stoic personality has been present since her family was still together. Her profile only serves to underscore her tragic past never really broke but simply allowed her beliefs to fall into place.
* CharacterDevelopment: A small example. Cancer goes from not giving a damn about Kujira/Neptune's feelings to being at least considerate of them and even her suggestions, especially if the Other Side Gang is involved.
* TheChessmaster: Only the first part of the massacre has been publicized, but there’s already enough information to brand her as this. To wit, she has Henderson and the Darkling (whatever those are) in a position to cut off help from the DWMA Rozniak base, she has several currently unknown creatures in hiding for a later ambush, she knows the entire geography of Rozniak, is aware of common skillsets of Vladinghams, and enlisted the help of Project Omega's Primordial Form. Those 21 years of preparation are showing, and the first death hasn’t even happened yet!
** There’s also another but subtle example. Cancer attacks during the Gathering Day. Let that sink in… Don’t get it? Every Vladingham has gathered on this one day that they consider their personal holiday. She knew they would all be at the village, and that it’s the perfect stage to get them all in one fell swoop. We can reasonably assume Cancer found this out sometime during preparations, but she nonetheless has them trapped like rats, and they don’t even know it.
* ChekhovsGunman: She first appeared (name only, no physical details) in a small flashback at the end of the prologue. She was properly introduced chapters later.
* CombatPragmatist: Her attack pattern is catered towards inflicting the maximum amount of damage. Soul notes all throughout Maka's fight with her Cancer's needles (big or small) are aimed at her throat, heart, or head, which can lead to lethal damage. Also, she uses pliancy of water to attack people from behind or sweep their feet from underneath them, making her a tricky opponent to defend against. And the icing on the cake is that Cancer at one point strikes Maka while she's in the middle of a Soul Resonance.
* ConspicuousGloves: A variation. The scarves around her left arm. Yeah, we’re pretty sure she isn’t hiding something beneath them.. Sure enough, there is something there; a grotesque crab-claw arm that replaces said left arm she lost long ago courtesy of the Vladinghams behind the Lucrenian Incident.
* CreateYourOwnHero: She killed Caius' clan in a CycleOfRevenge. Thus, Cancer had succeeded in creating someone who wants her head just as badly.
* TheCynic: She perceives the world as a dark place mired by lies, discrimination, and all sorts of negative things, and as being impossible to improve. However, she rejects the ultimate conclusion that nothing matters -- if this world is hopeless, then she'll create a new, better one based on what she thinks is best for everyone, including the very abolition of concepts like hope itself.
* CynicismCatalyst: The Lucrenian Clan Incident is what pushed Cancer beyond the DespairEventHorizon and had a hand in establishing her beliefs and motivating her to do something about the world she now hates.
* DarkIsEvil: She wears black clothing and the wavelength she exerts is black.
* DeadpanSnarker: The things she say are blunt, mean, rude, and disrespectful.
* DueToTheDead: Made a gravesite for Galene and requests Kujira to exhume and bring Orpheus home so she can pay her respects to him.
* EmotionlessGirl: Cold and unfeeling, she rarely if ever smiles, has a completely toneless voice, and acts like she's made of stone. There are subtle changes to her demeanor when she is irritated, but she predominantly acts soulless.
* EmptyEyes: Her eyes are described as "dead and empty", reflecting her emotionless demeanor.
* TheEngineer: Engineering is her specialty, with a lab catered to such as well.
* EvenBadWomenLoveTheirMamas: The reason she became a scientist is because she admired her mother and wanted to be a great scientist like her.
* EvilCripple: Her left arm is typically kept under lavenders and is described as hanging limp by her side.
* EvilGenius: Created the Anria, knowledgeable in several scientific and engineering disciplines, is a good tactician and strategist, current pioneer of Project Omega -- she more than qualifies.
* EvilOrphan: Both of her parents died in the Period of Destruction, her father at an unspecified point and Galene during the Lucrenian Clan Incident.
* EvilVirtues: Hard worker, extremely determined, and bears a lifelong admiration of her mother, Galene Lucrenian, who worked on Project Omega like she is doing now.
* FamilyExtermination: The person who did the Vladingham Family Massacre.
* FamilyValuesVillain: Cancer is big on FamilyHonor and believes Project Omega represents such. She’s also an amoral practitioner of genocide and mass murder who believes hope does not exist.
* FantasticRacism: Cancer holds a deep disdain and hatred toward the Vladingham Family. This is, in fact, because a past generation of them were the perpetrators behind the Lucrenian Clan Incident. While normally calm and emotionless, a subject about the Vladinghams will either dredge up rage or a sense of nostalgic accomplishment. She considers the massacre her greatest achievement in life. To top it all off, she's yet to refer to Caius by name.
* FashionableAsymmetry: Her whole left arm is covered in lavender scarves for some reason, meaning she’s doing things with only one arm.
* FlechetteStorm: The most common way she uses Needle Magic. She makes a huge number of them and sends them all flying to skewer her target.
* FinalSolution: Wanting to be rid of the objects of her vendetta, Cancer's genocide of the Vladinghams was done because she felt justified in exacting revenge on them.
* GeniusCripple: Is so intelligent she can work in both scientific and mechanical fields, and she no longer possesses a normally functioning left arm.
* GiantEnemyCrab: She can summon large, black and blue crabs.
* GlowingEyesOfDoom: Her eyes will occasionally gleam or outright shine during periods of intimidation.
* Hammerspace: How does one hide a crab claw for an arm?
* HandicappedBadass: For starters, she committed the Vladingham Family Massacre with only one arm. Though she later realized such an endeavor is exceedingly difficult and gets a sort of replacement to facilitate later battles.
* HopeCrusher: Cancer is a staunch disbeliever in hope and instead thinks despair is the one truth extant in this world of lies. As such, she has no qualm making others agree with her beliefs. After all, to her, "there is no such thing as hope."
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: In Act 1 Chapter 46, her CrossCounter with Maka has her impaled by Soul. She shrugs it off without a hitch.
* ImplacableWoman: Cancer's unemotional demeanor, great resilience, and unflappable attitude towards pain and adversity all make for a person who seemingly can ignore everything thrown at her. Using Act 1 Chapter 46 as a reference, Cancer withstands Kamaitachi, electrocution, a fall from just below a building's rooftop onto a car, and Noel's Reign of Malphas.
* InTheHood: When in public, Cancer typically wears a hooded cloak or something similar to hide her face.
* InTheirOwnImage: For Cancer, the Project Omega plan also falls under this. By completing it to give birth to a DestroyerDeity, she aims to RestartTheWorld and KillTheGods so she can rebuild the world into something more in line with her beliefs. The beliefs of an amoral nihilist like herself.
* ItIsBeyondSaving: Her worldview, hence she wants to destroy and recreate it.
* IWorkAlone: Cancer has trust issues and thus bears a tendency to do whatever she can and then some on her own. Even then, she expects cooperators to follow her whims and direction unquestioningly. This is presented as something of a character flaw that is both addressed and called out on.
* JerkWithAHeartOfJerk: At her worst. Even when she acts like she is willing to lend a hand, all that she really cares about is herself, her own power, and what can be done to further her own goals at the end.
* KnightOfCerebus: Cancer Lucrenian's first appearance during the Introduction Arc finally give us something to look forward to in terms of conflict. It also gives a preview of her caliber as a villain. You certainly qualify when one of your first actions is trying to preemptively kill main characters.
* KungFuWizard: Cancer is equally skilled in using magic as she is in close-quarters combat. She can even focus masses of water around her arm and legs before connecting punches and kicks, combining the two areas.
* LadyOfWar: Cancer maintains an air of calm and reserve, if dissonant, even when using her powerful magic, maneuvering and taking out enemies with eerie grace.
* LackOfEmpathy: The wellbeing of people not herself or allied with her are of very little concern to her. She all but threatens Young Thief Gestas to give up his life to help her out, promises to have Venice razed to the ground if demands aren’t met, kills three gangsters in Act 1 Chapter 19 with little provocation, and her breaking of the pact to Soriano shows she is not above of crossing her own allies if it means the furtherance of her goals. But perhaps the coup de grace is her behavior in the Vladingham Family Massacre as narrated in entries of Saeculum. Cancer shows mild excitement, even OOCIsSeriousBusiness smiling at the prospect of slaughtering Vladinghams. One of the few times she emotes, and it involves disconcerting disregard for human life.
* LeaveNoSurvivors: Wanted no Vladingham to survive the massacre. Presumably, just when she was about to kill Caius, she unfortunately ran out of time because the DWMA had arrived.
* LogicalWeakness: Water conducts electricity. The only time Maka arguably gains the upper hand in their first fight is when she uses electronics, a circuit breaker, and their stored electricity to electrocute Cancer.
* LonersAreFreaks: Although Neptune loves Cancer as family, she did notice a few strange things about her. Cancer was always quiet, to herself, immersed in her studies, and definitely had the scowl she has now. In hindsight, she discovers how similar she is now to then and wonders if anything really changed about her in their time apart. 223 years since the Lucrenian Clan Incident and most of the time was spent by herself.
* MadeOfIron: Sustains a ridiculous amount of damage in her first fight with Maka from impalement, electrocution, hard falls, and hard hits.
* MagicalIncantation: "Crustacean crustaceous."
* MajorInjuryUnderreaction: Her reaction to being impaled by a scythe? Minor annoyance.
* MakingASplash: She knows and practices Water Magic. Depending on its use, the physical properties of water can be manipulated to her advantage. She can discharge large masses of water that possess remarkable force, being usable to inflict blunt damage upon targets by sweeping them away with water, some of which take the form of "beams," dense spheres, walls of water, or traditional waves. In fact, she's so refined in Water Magic, other applications include using it to ation herself and other objects, and combining it with Conversion Magic to launch scores of needles.
* Mangst: RareFemaleExample. She only talks about her motives when a trusted ally (like Kujira/Neptune) or someone she tolerates in the interest of business (Soriano), she only looks forward in trying to complete Project Omega, and she doesn’t mull over her implied dark past. To make a long, long story short, Cancer is an unfettered NoNonsenseNemesis. She even has a picture of her two closest Lucrenians, her mother Galene and sister Neptune, that she’ll occasionally look at in her sanctuary.
* MeaningfulName: Doubly so.
** The name “Cancer” comes from one of the twelve constellations of the zodiac, which is typically represented as a crab, which happens to be her animal motif. Later given a nod when Maka deduces Cancer is in Chicago through this association.
** “Cancer” is, of course, the name of a disease characterized by abnormal cell growth and is one of the deadliest illnesses known to mankind. That last part is eerily fitting as she’s the No-Nonsense BigBad with a LackOfEmpathy.
* MisplacedRetribution: As Soul points out, Cancer waited until the true attackers and murderers of her clan were long dead, instead going after a generation of Vladinghams that had absolutely nothing to do with her. She justifies it by saying "they bear the surname so they also bear the guilt".
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: Would you stay in the same room as someone nicknamed Massacre Queen?
* NervesOfSteel: Cancer is completely unflappable. The prospect of killing a BadassFamily is enjoyable to her, being held at gunpoint by many gangsters doesn’t stop her from snarking, and she quickly returns to her usual demeanor if something does get to her.
* NoNonsenseNemesis: Four words to describe her: humorless, pragmatic, competent, and focused.
** Look no farther than her debut: She needs some guinea pigs to test out a prototype of Project Omega and elects to use Academy students. So, she goes to Venice, Italy and forces Gestas, a generic Evil Human, to be the bait, masking the real threats. When the eventuality of Gestas’s death comes, Cancer goes to make her move, but then she notices the students in question are Maka Albarn, owner of the Anti-Demon Wavelength, and Caius, the Vladingham she wanted dead but was forced to spare due to time constraints. She instead opts to clandestinely go straight for the kill by trying to skewer them with needles, also deciding to simply sic Project Omega on their Demon Weapons. If it weren’t for Soul, who just happened to be facing the right direction to see the attack coming, this tactic would have worked. Then, in the confrontation with Project Omega, Maka admits they are outmatched and suggests fleeing. Cancer reappears and informs them she will have Project Omega eradicate Venice should they run away, forever tarnishing their reputation as forces of the DWMA. Only because of Joint Resonance is this crisis averted.
* ObfuscatingDisability: In her first-ever fight in the story, when Maka goes on the offensive, Cancer removes the scarves around her left arm to reveal a grotesque crab claw, meaning her "useless" arm has a use.
* OffstageVillainy: The depopulation of Bermuda. Since the beginning of the operation mentioned early in the Cobra Island arc, it has only been vaguely alluded to or discussed as a simple afterthought or secondary subject. What probably helps is that, while Cancer oversees it, the Anria are the ones carrying it out.
* OhCrap: An AxCrazy Maka is about to shove her face into a circuit breaker. For a brief moment, Cancer shows this expression.
* OmnidisciplinaryScientist: Her specialties are mechanics, architecture, and engineering, but Cancer also had to teach herself genetics, physiology, Phasmology, and a rudimentary form of biology so she could keep going with. Of course, she’s nowhere near as proficient or knowledgeable as she is with her specialties. Kujira even offers to take the biological stuff off of her hands.
* PerpetualFrowner: Her default expression is an emotionless face without a smile.
* PersonalityPowers: Water is the element of change and mutability. Calm and placid in one moment, harsh and brutal the next. Describes Cancer, the quiet and stoic villain who wants to change the world, quite nicely, don’t you think?
* PunchCatch: In the midst of their brawl, Maka tries to throw a punch but Cancer catches it with ease, attempting to twist her arm right off afterward.
* TheQuietOne: Generally, she won’t talk unless you talk to her first.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: According to her profile, Cancer is chronologically 300-year-olds but physically resembles a 21-year-old woman.
* ReminiscingAboutYourVictims: As she views the massacre as her greatest achievement in life and possesses virulent hatred towards the Vladingham Family, she'll occasionally but fondly do this. It was one of Maka's clues that she's as horrible as she's made out to be.
* RevengeByProxy: She was too weak to exact revenge on the Vladinghams directly behind the Lucrenian Clan Incident. By the time she grows strong and powerful enough to slaughter them, it's an entirely different generation of them. It nonetheless gives her a semblance of closure.
* ASinisterClue: She’s left-handed. Well, was. According to her, she lost her left arm long ago.
* SinisterSurveillance[=/=]SurveillanceAsThePlotDemands: She has Surveillance Crabs to help her monitor activity revolving her goals and relay any commands to those on the other line.
* SocialDarwinist: A variation. She believes only the strong can pursue vengeance. If you’re not strong enough or are too weak, you’re fooling yourself.
* TheSociopath: Shows some traits of one, such as her lack of empathy and remorse. After an argument, Kujira suspects her younger sister wasn’t simply an aloof loner but rather was born evil.
* TheStoic: Cancer is pretty much in a perpetual state of stoic indifference, from her times as teenager to the present as an adult.
* StrawNihilist: Cancer is disgusted with the world and her whole motive is to complete Project Omega so it can destroy it. She sees the world as self-destructive and full of lies, discrimination, and injustice. She wants nothing more than to create a new world without these flaws and, especially, one without hope.
-->Cancer:: So naïve to the ways of the world, so full of optimism and hope. I, however, have seen the world for how it truly is. Despair is the only truth in this world of lies and hypocrisy. This world is not worth the dirt we walk upon. Unless it is destroyed and remade properly, it will remain that way, a diseased mire, and everyone – humans, witches, and other creatures alike – shall continue to dance like court jesters to its incomprehensible whims. If you live long enough, you shall see it sooner or later, even if I must be the one to teach you that.
* SummonMagic: She knows Summoning Magic and uses water as the medium to do so. An application of this magic is ationing herself and others non-lethally to different places with it.
* SurroundedByIdiots: Her condescending nature to her allies gives off this impression despite them being relatively competent themselves. Henderson is the sole exception.
* TragicKeepsake: A digital picture of herself, Kujira, and Galene in an earlier time. All she has to do is glance at the picture, and her ambition gets charged back up to full.
* TrainingFromHell: Says she subjected herself to this in preparation for the Vladingham Massacre.
* TranquilFury: Cancer is not one for explosive violence or raising her voice. So how can you determine if she is sufficiently enraged? You feel just feel it emanating from her or just watch her glowing eyes.
* UncannyFamilyResemblance: According to narration in Act 1 Chapter 19, Cancer inherited her looks from her mother, Galene, such as hair and eye color.
* TheUnfettered: To her, things like morality are just shackles holding her back. She could care less if you approve of her actions or not. She has no compunctions in committing senseless killing and destruction as long as it brings her closer to victory and serves a purpose. Every crime and every murder are necessary sacrifices.
* UsedToBeASweetKid: Downplayed. Kujira remarks on Cancer being pretty mellow in her youth, but many things about her still remain the same. See LonersAreFreaks.
* VillainousRescue: [[spoiler: She rescues Soriano and Kujira from an explosive sacrifice caused by Morgan. She'd accidentally turn on a facet and Cancer used the running water to save the gangsters. Soriano later suspects Cancer only saved him as well because Kujira was involved.]]
* WalkOnWater: Cancer is introduced into the story doing this.
* WhiteHairBlackHeart: Silver, but close enough.
* The Woman Behind the Monsters: Cancer is the creator of the Anria, the newest threat to the forces of order.
* WrenchWench: Her lab contains many mechanical equipment and machinery. This is in fact because she is skilled in mechanics, building, and engineering.

-----

-->"Stay with Novus Partus and help complete Project Omega. Your visionary haven, your paradise, can be made. At its core, Project Omega is meant to change the world through destruction and recreation. Siding with us means you and your kin can share the glory."

Henderson is the Cancer’s assistant and most trusted ally who has apparently been in cahoots with her since 23 years ago, presumably in Soul Eater Zeta. He is a very strange organism, combining the characteristics of both a man and a crab monster.
-----
* AffablyEvil: Henderson is a well-mannered, refined gentlemen. He is respectful of those he speaks to, very polite and impersonal, and genuinely cares for the well-being of everyone in Novus Partus. Such a shame that, as a member of said group, he's a primary antagonist with blood on his hand and claw.
* AlienBlood: He bleeds blue-colored blood like real horseshoe crabs.
* BattleButler: Shades of this, what with serving Cancer her tea and looking after her wellbeing as she works tirelessly.
* BlackEyesOfEvil: Nothing but vacant darkness occupies his eyeholes. Occasionally, glowing red lights will appear in them depending on the situation.
* TheDragon: To Cancer.
* EnigmaticMinion: Beyond his working with Cancer and a 23-year association with her and past Lucrenians, absolutely nothing is known about Henderson at this point in time. Where he comes from, his goals, his connections to the other villains or even other character periods, what exactly he is, and even his combat prowess are all completely unrevealed. All we really know he is mild-mannered and obviously not a humanoid species.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: He releases a shocked gasp when he hears Cancer broke the promise to not hurt any Other Side gangsters in the gambit to destroy the Chicago Gang. He goes on to console a heartbroken Kujira by saying he intended to completely honor the pact.
* EvilSoundsDeep: His voice is described as deep and baritone.
* HiddenAgendaVillain: For all his loyalty to Cancer, it's real interesting to hear Henderson's been keeping Minya's existence a secret.
* TheJeeves: He's always polite, affable and unquestioning, and always ready to tend to his master.
* MyMasterRightOrWrong: Towards Cancer. Her personality and his clash, but he is nonetheless totally devoted to her and keeps her welfare on his mind constantly. This is despite the Anria and her questionable behavior to the Other Side Gang. He also likely knows the full story about Project Omega.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Red, glowing glints can flash in his normally dark eyeholes.
* StatingTheSimpleSolution: Walena complains she can't show her face (literally) to Tazmina. Henderson reminds her she can use her voodoo masks to imitate her face until it heals.
* TheStoic: Always calm and courteous, regardless of the situation. Amazing, after Walena stabs him out of reflexive self-defense, the worst she gets is a snide remark

--> "N-Now, now, Boss. There's nothing to be afraid of. Remember, the Academy doesn't get involved in normal human business. You said it yourself long time ago, we're safe because only the people in this room know I'm a Witch. Novus Partus will take care of the Academy. All the Other Side Gang has to do is work in the shadows like always."

Neptune is the second Lucrenian introduced in the story and is the older sister of Cancer. Her mother, Galene, and her father had a disagreement in the past because of Galene’s workaholic tendencies as it pertained to Project Omega. As a direct result, she and her father went to Earth for a short excursion. Unfortunately, this was in the middle of the Period of Destruction. Her dad was killed in an attack. Neptune blamed his dead on Galene, which led to a strain between the two that was never reconciled. Neptune is one of the survivors of the Lucrenian Clan Incident, but she gets estranged from Cancer.

Eventually, Neptune comes across the Other Side Gang in Chicago, Illinois. She joins them, takes up a codename, Kujira, and becomes a high-ranking gangster. She bears a small grudge against her gang’s rival, the Chicago Gang, for what they did to her dead colleagues. Sometime after the Vladingham Family Massacre, she left a note near the abandoned site of Atlantis to let Cancer know she was still alive. Presently, Kujira is the right-hand woman of Soriano, the Other Side Gang’s current boss, and acts the liaison between them and Novus Partus.
-----
* AnimalMotif: Whales.
* AntiVillain: Has a sense of honor, understands her "job" is illegal but someone has to do it and follows order unquestioningly, never killed a single person, just hurt, loves Cancer, her sister, of all characters and top it all off, she's basically got the same tragic past as Cancer, but she's more pleasant, making her a sympathetic villain.
* BadassCreed: “I die on my own terms, and I die hard. That’s Kujira Marshall’s creed.”
* BilingualBonus: "Kujira" means "whale" in Japanese.
* BlindObedience: Kujira tells Cancer that blind loyalty is bad for leaders, claiming Yes Men make the worst subordinates.
* ChewingTheScenery: In Act 1 Chapter 43, when Morgan shoots her eye out, she falls off her rocker. Granted, it understandably hurts, and she'll never get the same one back.
--> "Ohmygod! Ohmygod! Ohmygod! Ohmygod! Ohmygod! Ohmygod! Ohmygod! Ohmygod! Ohmygod! Ohmygod! My eeeeeeeeeeeeeye!"
* CodeName: Her pseudonym is "Kujira Marshall".
* CurbStompCushion: Enrique is hardly inconvenienced by Kujira, with Tezca laughing and joking around all the while. Kujira does get a few hits in and puts Enrique on the defensive once or twice. She also only loses the fight because she's not at all 100 percent and was KO'd by her own spell.
* DaddysGirl: Loved her father so much she never forgave Galene for unintentionally but indirectly causing his death.
* DontCallMeSir: She insists being called "Kujira" or "Neptune". Nothing more, nothing less.
* DragonInChief: Despite only being the NumberTwo to Soriano, she does most of the meaningful work in the Chicago Gang Arc, from the supervision of the deal to assisting Cancer and deliverance of the goods. Being she's a Witch, she has a bigger target on her back as far as the DWMA's concerned.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Horrified at Cancer getting some of her comrades killed as well as Soriano ordering the hit on Marcellus and Morgan.
* EyeScream: She gets shot in the eye by Morgan. Henderson performs optic surgery on her to get her a replacement.
* FightsLikeANormal: As a witch, she can use magic but keeps a low profile by instead fighting with guns, knives, and hands.
* FriendInTheBlackMarket: As Cancer's dear older sister and a high-ranking gangster, Kujira has access to anything beneath the surface.
* GeniusBruiser: She is an expert in biology, but her capabilities as a gang member and fighter are more profound.
* GunsAkimbo: Can wield a handgun one a time or two at a time.
%% * TheGunslinger
* Handguns: Her firearm of choice.
* HandicappedBadass: Make no mistake, Kujira is skilled with a gun. She fought Enrique and Tezca fresh out of major optic surgery. The fight didn't last long, but that's likely why.
* MagicalIncantation: "Whalar cetacea whalaram cetadar!"
* MagicKnight: Can use both Water Magic and her weapons, but is more skilled with the latter.
* MakingASplash: Another user of Water Magic. Though she is rather out of practice.
* MyCountryRightOrWrong: "Country" in this case is "The Other Side Gang", but the same basic principle still applies -- her moral cord and personality may clash with Soriano and others, but you won't hear her complain. She's more assertive to Cancer and Novus Partus, however.
* NobleDemon: Neptune is loyal to the gang and her fellow gang members, and she'll certainly fight and screw with whoever is trying to destroy them, but honor and camaraderie are important to her. You can bet your bottom dollar that when she makes a promise, she'll keep it.
* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: Has a habit of getting close to someone. For Cancer particularly, she'll walk up behind her, hug her, and rest her head on her. This annoyed her in the past and downright irritates in the present.
* NumberTwo: To Soriano.
* PerpetualSmiler: Kujira smiles almost all the time. It was the best way to deal with any situation because a smile could mean many different things.
* PowerIncontinence: Kujira is rusty using anything other than basic might. She's so used to relying on guns and knives, convinced of their efficiency, she's had no reason to practice magic.
* PunchClockVillain: A gang isn't the most savory place to work in, but she likes it nonetheless. It's her home away from home.
* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: She wears the standard uniform of the Other Side Gang, which is composed a red and black coat and whatnot. The "evil" part is through her association with said gang and Novus Partus. Kujira on her own is rather anti-villanous.
* ShapingYourAttacks: One magic spell, Potidaea, has her conjure streams of flowing water that form into a massive whale as it is directed to whoever she wants to hit.
* SinisterShiv: She doesn't wield knives, she uses shivs like you would expect someone in her kind of field. So proficient is she in wielding she gives Enrique, the meister of a Death Scythe, a little bit of trouble through either throwing them or engaging him in knife combat.
* StatuesqueStunner: She is six-feet tall!
* TacticalWithdrawal: In spite of the epic fail that is Potidaea crashing down her, she uses the ensuing explosion to hide her escape. Determinator Takes a special kind of person to do that given the circumstances.
* Teleportation: Just like Cancer, she can use Water Magic to teleport to different locations. Her variation can be circumvented; Enrique exploits it by jumping into a whirl before it transports a vehicle containing gangsters. Kujira is forced to stop and the inside acts the AmazingTechnicolorBattlefield for the ensuing fight.
%% * TokenGoodTeammate
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Has this dynamic with Walena. A conversation they have when they're bored establishes this. Walena likes to shop, tend to her appearance, and party. Neptune likes doing inventory, guns, and training. Walena wears dress and feminine wear, Neptune wears punkish stuff.
* UndyingLoyalty: Clearly to Soriano and the Other Side Gang considering the devotion she shows.
* WhiteGangBangers: Technically, she's a witch, but Neptune resembles a Caucasian person. She is part of the Other Side Gang and even sports a high rank, being TheDragon to her boss.
* WorfHadTheFlu: Fights Enrique and Tezca in the middle of saving her fellow coworkers from armed forces, several hours after major optic surgery. Which consequently leaves her with only one eye at the time.

--> "The world has neither justice, god, nor order. It's all nothing but wretched extravagance. The witch hunts have been going since Demon Weapons and Meisters began the creation of Death Scythes. Mabaa and the Witch Council have done nothing to even slow them down. If anything, it's gotten worse. This is not a sisterhood, it's a holocaust. My mother was a victim, and I'll be damned if me and Taz become ones ourselves."

A witch who sticks her nose into Cancer’s business in the middle of a Witch Mass based on simple rumors.
-----
* AffectionateNickname: Calls Portis "Big Daddy P". Morgan hates it. Admittedly, the name makes it sound like Portis is her pimp and not her boss.
* AintTooProudToBeg: After a MotiveRant to Henderson, she outright pleads for Henderson to sympathize with her cause and goals.
* AnimalMotif: The wombat.
* AntiVillain: She views the world as flawed and cites the persistent witch hunts as one mode of evidence. All this stems from the death of her mother, presumably at the hands of the Academy, and the pain associated with the loss. To escape the dreadful influence of the Academy and the Witch Society, she plots to turn a location into a GildedCage[=/=]FalseUtopia so she and her little sister Tazmina can find peace and happiness. Unfortunately, this requires stripping people of their free will, and she is rather aggressive about it, with something of a mean streak behind her. As Marcellus points out, her motive are not entirely selfless or agreed upon.
* ArchEnemy: Considered to be one for Marcellus, if their exchanges are any indication.
* ArcVillain: Of the Chicago Gang Arc, something we don't learn until later.
* BadPowersBadPeople: Creating voodoo masks to manipulate people and excise their free will is the least sympathetic thing about her, and it's a pretty big deal. Her shadow powers add to it.
* BlackMagic: Walena specializes in Voodoo Magic. The exact extent of her capabilities is unknown, but we've seen elements such as an affinity with shadows, interaction with the supernatural, and mind control through masks.
* BastardUnderstudy: It turns out that she is this to Portis and Morgan. Their gang is nothing more than a means to an end, as well as a temporary method to support herself and Tazmina. When time runs thin, Walena enacts her own plan to forge a GildedCage without touching base with Cancer.
* BerserkButton: Humans, specifically those from the Academy, and the Witch Society are ones in and of themselves.
* BigBadWannabe: Walena's actions as the ArcVillain are small compared to Cancer or Soriano, who by comparison warrant more serious attention.
* BigSisterInstinct: An aspect played rather darkly. She's so protective of her younger sis, Tazmina, that she's willing to ruin (relatively) innocent lives to make a paradise so that the two of them can find happiness. And considering some suspicious reactions to Henderson's and Marcellus's questioning, it seems that Tazmina isn't allowed to have a say about it.
* BoomerangBigot: She is a witch, but she utterly abhors the Witch Society and its authority figures, even renouncing her allegiance with them in a bout of rage.
* BrokenBird: Beneath this supposedly bubbly, whimsical woman is a witch deeply scarred by the death of her mother as a result of the ongoing strife between the DWMA and the Witches. She's even willing to throw her fellow gangsters under the bus and use them as tools, all to make a place where she and Tazamina can be happy.
* ButtMonkey: Not everyone takes her seriously. Even Marcellus talks down to her (inside his head). Even worse, Henderson is noticeably more sharp-tongued and snarky in conversations with her.
* CastingAShadow: A derivative of her magic is using shadows. The Lao masks also weaponize their shadow tendrils to assist her, but it's unclear if Walena does the command or if it's of their own will.
* CoDragons: Her, Left, and Right -- to Master Morgan and Don Portis.
* CombatStilettos: She does wear high heels, but minimally participates in actual combat, instead having others do her dirty work or using long-range magic.
* CoolBigSis: She seems very caring to Tazmina if their phone call is any indication.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: She acts whimsical and ditzy as both Miyuki and Walena, but she is rather competent.
* CustomUniformOfSexy: Her "uniform" as Miyuki is not standard protocol; when berated by Morgan, she states being a higher rank gives her freedom to wear what she wants. She even wears it to Portis's meeting with Lord Death, drawing attention.
* DarkActionGirl: Literally so as a practitioner of BlackMagic.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: When she was younger, her mother hid her and her little sister she to go fight off some enemies. Despite their mother's best efforts, they were too much and killed her. Walena implies she saw it all happen.
* DarkIsEvil: Wears dark outfits, uses Voodoo Magic, and her surname is Devilana. Evil.
* DeadpanSnarker: She turns up the wittiness in her battle with Tsuji, leading to SnarkToSnarkCombat.
* DisproportionateRetribution: After Tsuji intimidates her Laos, Walena flies into a rage, blaming him as a representative for Academy humans in general for everything bad that's happened, and proceeds to deliver a vicious NoHoldsBarredBeatdown consisting of a few, violent slams of a summoned fist.
* DoubleEntendre: Makes a few sexually charged comments.
-->"Naughty boys like you need to be taught a lesson."
* DragonWithAnAgenda: Walena isn't loyal to the Chicago Gang despite spending an indeterminate amount of time with them. In fact, Walena seeks to use the people and the territory to form an utopia where she and Tazmina can find refuge from both the Academy and the Witch Society.
* EnigmaticMinion: She comes out of nowhere during a Witch Mass and approaches Cancer, Henderson, and Neptune, expressing a cryptic interest in them. Even more suspect of her, she apparently knows a little about Cancer's clan, which is one reason why she approached her in the first place. She later claims she wants to be on the winning side due a hatred of both the DWMA and the Witch Society, but that's learned after the fact. We still aren't sure of her exact reason for bothering them anyway.
* Expy: Of Dr. Facilier of WesternAnimation/ThePrincessAndTheFrog.
* EvilCostumeSwitch: As Miyuki, a gangster, she wears a Stripperific "uniform" (see the details below). As Walena, a witch, she dons a black corset dress with a horizontal neckline, lace gloves, black high heels, and a black choker with a wombat pendant.
* EvilWearsBlack: Her witch outfit is black.
* FacialMarkings: She gains facepaint markings similar to her voodoo masks when using her more offensive magic.
* FalseUtopia: She schemes to turn the Chicago Gang's territory into one for herself and Tazmina without the latter's knowledge.
* FauxAffablyEvil: Miyuki seems loyal, claiming she's done nothing but good for the Chicago Gang (enough to be high-ranking), and talks to even the bosses casually. She offers Marcellus a piece of meaningful advice, and generally appears as an okay woman. Beneath all that, she is a schemer who cares next to none about anyone without the Devilana surname, a misanthrope, a hater of her own kind, and abandons all friendly pretense once exposed. She may be somewhat sympathetic, but is she evil? Oh, without a doubt.
* Foreshadowing: When Cancer enters the Chicago Gang villa in Act 1 Chapter 19, she senses the magic power of a fellow witch and guesses one must be among the ranks. Walena is later introduced as Miyuki, a witch and a gang member.
* ForgotAboutHerPowers: One of Walena's complaints during the Novus Partus BlameGame is how she can't show her damaged, bandaged around Tazmina. Henderson states the simple solution to make her remember one of her powers before moving on to more serious matters.
* GangBangers: She is a high-raking subordinate of the Chicago Underground Association under the guise of "Miyuki".
* GiantHandsOfDoom: One of her offensive spells has her summon a rod and punch the ground with it, conjuring a huge fist of shadows to crush her opponent.
* GildedCage: She aims to put Tazmina in one without her consent. She chooses the Chicago Gang's territory as the setting and will cut it off from the rest of the world once set, chooses the gangsters and inhabitants as unwilling citizens so she and Tazmina aren't alone, and picks certain individuals as protectors and fighters for the worst case scenario. Walena calls it a paradise, but it's not.
* HiddenVillain: For some time, it was unknown who would be the next Arc Villain following Medusa. Or if there was going to be one in the first place considering Cancer is far more active in the Chicago Gang Arc than before. Then, Miyuki debuts at the halfway point, and her next series of appearances quickly establish her as an antagonist and later a direct opposition to Marcellus and Tsuji, cementing her status.
* HollywoodVoodoo: In this setting, Voodoo is magic (hence, "Voodoo Magic"). Walena can commune with supernatural voodoo spirits, and the magic apparently grants a form of umbrakinesis. It is treated akin to BlackMagic, and there's (so far) nothing religious or ceremonial about it.
* HotWitch: She's all about sexual appeal. Her older age certainly helps.
* ImpossiblyLowNeckline: Her outfits reveal her cleavage.
* Irony: Marcellus lampshades the SheWhoFightsMonsters entry below.
* ItsAllAboutMe: Marcellus rips into Walena's motivation and reasoning, making it clear to the audience she's doing her EvilPlan to satisfy her own needs. His argument is reinforced by Tazmina's lack of involvement and her very defensive reactions to certain accusations, implying guilt.
* JerkassHasAPoint: Granted, the removal of free will is heinous, but Walena does have a point (if harsh) when she argues gangsters are "lawbreakers, criminals, and bloodsucking scumbags". Law enforcement still goes after them whether or not she turns them into PeoplePuppets or not.
* JustifiedCriminal: Joined the Chicago Gang partly to support herself and Tazmina.
* KnightTemplarBigBrother: Her goal can be summarized as "save Tazmina no matter what."
* LadyOfBlackMagic: The personality zigzags, but she has the magic.
* LongRangeFighter: Her whip and GiantHandsOfDoom are ranged magic spells, befitting a SquishyWizard.
* LoveMakesYouCrazy: She loathes the world and the key players in it, mostly the Academy and the Witches. She desires happiness for herself and her sister only, while everyone else is just in the way and can kill themselves for all she cares. And it doesn't seem to matter what Tazmina has to say about it. Put it simply, she's an extremely Knight Templar Big Sister.
* MagicalIncantation: "Womba batta wom wom ba ba wom."
* MagicStaff: During in later portions of her fight with Tsuji, she summons a rod for offensive magic.
* TheMatchmaker: Walena mentions she'll let Marcellus have his free will in her GildedCage so he can be Tazmina's husband. He rejects the offer for two reasons.
* MisanthropeSupreme: She sports a very low opinion of humans, an even lower one for Academy members. In fact, she blames them for everyone wrong with the world and with what happened to her.
* MistakenForProstitute: Totally PlayedForLaughs. Her Stripperific outfit doesn't help.
* MrsRobinson: Her exact age, both chronological and physical (the latter is implied to be younger than Morgan, who is in her 40s), is unknown, but she's clearly older than either Marcellus or Tsuji, being a seemingly adult witch and all. Regardless, she flirts with Marcellus and later admits he is handsome.
* MsFanservice: From her choice of clothing, to her shapely rear, to her large breasts, and to even a few of her lines, Walena/Miyuki is the most overtly sexual character out of the whole cast.
* NonUniformUniform: As a promoted member of the Chicago Underground Association, it appears she can decide her own uniform.
* NotSoSimilar: The story seemingly sets up Marcellus and Walena/Miyuki as foils, being two African-Americans inside the same gang with a DarkAndTroubledPast pertaining to their respective parents. As time passes on, it's shown these two are far from alike. Marcellus may be stoic and emotionally repressed, but he ultimately has a good and caring heart. Walena is an outgoing but selfish vixen who cares little about others. Whereas Marcellus remain heroic even though he , Walena lost her mom in the past, can't let it go, and becomes vengeful.
* NotSoHarmlessVillain: Miyuki/Walena is presented as a little dim and dizty. Then she suddenly goes on a surprisingly intelligent MotiveRant to Henderson. With some cryptic knowledge and some powerful magic, she is a far more dangerous foe than her earliest appearances insinuate.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: She's that not smart, but she's not that stupid either. She is an ArcVillain after all.
* OfCorsetsSexy: Her witch outfit consists of a top combining a dress and a corset.
* OhCrap:
** Left confronts her in her room, holding her at sword-point, revealing to her they know about her treachery and Portis issued the order to execute her.
** Her reaction to Tsuji besting Portis and Left, now setting his sights totally on her.
* OneDegreeOfSeparation: Her sister was childhood friends with Kim.
* HardDrinkingPartyGirl: According to herself, one way she kills time is by clubbing.
* PeoplePuppets: She develops special voodoo masks that, when forced upon the wearer, become hers to use through MindControl. They still have access to their combat abilities and powers.
* PetTheDog: Talks to Marcellus on an emotional level to convince him to stop being so distant to Portis and Morgan.
* ProudBeauty: Displeased when Meteor Javelin mars her "beautiful" body.
* TheMole: Volunteers to be one for Novus Partus, spying on the Chicago Gang.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: She declares she will bring her mother's murderers to justice.
* ShamelessFanserviceGirl: Proudly struts around in her provocative clothing.
* SheWhoFightsMonsters: She is disgusted to hear Marcellus categorize in the same vein as her brethren; he even compares her to Medusa. Little does her know, Walena has inadvertently given him reasons why that is so. For starters, she's turning uninvolved people into slaves for a "paradise," her interests aren't purely altruistic, and is beating the hell out of Tsuji thanks to a dirty blindside.
-->Marcellus:: That was a terrible thing that happened to you and your family. But you can't take it out on humanity as a whole! All you're doing is perpetuating a cycle! You're acting just like Witches like Medusa!
* SlouchOfVillainy: Relaxes on her throne in the transformed Chicago Gang villa, before she gets a little more proactive in fighting Tsuji and Marcellus.
* StrawNihilist: Her top quote above says it all.
* Stripperific: Her Miyuki outfit: a low-cut, purple halter mini-dress, black thigh-high boots, large silver hoop earrings, silver bangles on her left wrist, and a black choker with a wombat pendant. In an instance where she was Reaper Chopped and on the floor, Spirit spots a G-string beneath her dress.
* SquishyWizard: Her Magic is certainly fearsome under the right conditions, yet Tsuji only lands two heavy blows on her to defeat her.
* SympathyForTheDevil: Marcellus sympathizes with her and her background and makes a few attempts throughout their battle to reason with her. Seeing her obstinate firsthand, he concludes she is so seeped with revenge and hate she can't be convinced otherwise, calling the whole situation sad.
* TheTease: She's sensual. One time, when Marcellus asks for privacy, she teasingly asks him if it's to masturbate.
* ThisCannotBe: Her reaction to Tsuji intimidating her voodoo spirits, something she deems impossible for a mere human.
* TokenMinority: The only black member of Novus Partus.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Sports this dynamic with Kujira. Whereas Kujira finds interest in things like management and training and wears punkish clothing, Walena prefers tending to her appearance, wearing pretty feminine apparel, and shopping.
* UtopiaJustifiesTheMeans: Walena runs on this belief. Wanting peace and security for herself and her younger sibling is a sympathetic goal. Too bad for her the means to do so are downright evil. She intends to use her Voodoo Magic to rob the Chicago Gang of their free will (something comparable to Medusa's Ouroboros), isolate their territory from the rest of the world, and turn it into what she calls a paradise for herself and Tazmina. It is deduced the latter has no say in the matter.
* VainSorceress: She's a HotWitch and knows it.
